  1. All right - I am glad that you got a laugh at my expense! Cards did keep their lead and won the tournament.
  2. Yeah - for some reason I had this idea in my head that they only played two rounds. My bad - I hope I didn't jinx anything.
  3. The Cards had a phenomenal second round shooting 10 under par as a team to reclaim the lead and eventually take the championship by 14 strokes over second place SHSU. Congrats to Coach White and his players. Good luck in regionals in May.
  4. Cards up by six strokes on the back stretch. In great position to win barring any disasters.
  5. Even with the prospects we gave up on Tejada we could not have gotten Santana, probably not Bedard either. At that time, the Twins were asking for way too much, and we would not have even been in the discussion. The Astros prospects are not considered to be anywhere near the tops in the league and the teams that had the better young talent got Bedard and Santana. Now as the season got closer, and the Twins realized that they needed to pull the trigger, they came off their demands, but even if we had traded for him, there is no way that Drayton would have given him the contract that the Mets did - and the deal would have been really bad.
  6. That billboard is awfully presumptious - I know that I don't support Clemens.
  7. I think Wade made what improvements he good. What starting pitching was out there that the Astros could have acquired. The free agent pool was thin - at best, and the Astros did not have the prospects to make any acquisition in trades. Wade has a lot of work to do to overcome the bunglings of the previous GM - he is the problem.
  8. Lamar came back to the Southland because at the time the University as a whole was in horrible shape financially and couldn't afford the travel costs in the Sunbelt. Dr. Cottle rectified the finances problem during his tenure and Dr. Simmons has done an excellent job of taking the foundation laid by Cottle and steadily improving the University in all areas.
  9. I doubt it. That's just not the Astros MO. Even after Bagwell was hurt two years in a row the exact same way by the same exact same pitcher on the exact same team, there was no retaliation.
  10. If you look at the replay again, Towles wasn't in the baseline, he was in front of the plate. If the slide was legit, then why did Pujols feel the need to apologize afterward. And I wouldn't actually throw at anyone's head, but definitely hit him and let him know that pitchers take care of their position players.
  11. But Towles wasn't blocking the plate, he was standing out in front and it was obvious that he was not making a play. The take out was unwarranted and unnecessary. If not, Pujols would not have called Towles after the game and apologized.
  12. I can't stand LaRussa - what he said about Towles is just flat wrong. Towles was standing out in front of the plate and Pujols slid in front of the plate and got him. Ridiculous. If any of the other pitchers on the Astros had any balls, besides Backe and Oswalt, Pujols would have had a ball in his ear hole yesterday.
  13. You can watch the game on www.channelsurfing.net.
  14. I think Robert is thinking something more along the lines of the "L Raisers" but for football. I think that anything that gets more students involved is a great idea.
  15. My "on the record" prediction is 72 - 90.
  16. Nothing on the athletics website nor any of the local news station websites or the Enterprise.
  17. UNLV - I don't think it will be any of those names, realistically. I would bet that it's Les Keonning or Kenith Pope.
  18. What's so important about today - April 1? What do you take me for, a fool?
  19. "Cool Papa" Bell is one of my all-time faves - and I am also a fan of Honus "The Flying Dutchman" Wagner as well.
  20. I have said it before and will continue to say it - it's not about recruiting local talent, it's about recruiting TALENT period. I don't care if the roster is made up of 60 scholarship players from Hawaii as long as they win!
  21. I was always under the impression that Lamar did not own the Montagne and therefore did not have the rights to sign events at the center.
  22. Let's not all jump off the Roc bandwagon. Let's look at where we have been in the last 20+ years and what Roc has done in the last two years. In his second year he gets within one win of 20, one win from a conference championship, has two players first team all conference, and the newcomer of the year two years in a row. I still see great things in the future for this Lamar program. I am also tired of waiting - but the progress is most definitely there.
  23. Oh my God - I am pissed off!!!
  24. I have to work Thursday, and the wife has informed me that we are heading out of town this weekend - So i'll be listening to Dave Hofferth on the good old internet for my Cardinal fix.
  25. The great thing about the NCAA tournament is that a team that everyone expected to be a contender can get knocked out the first weekend, while a team that was completely off the radar screen can get to the Final Four (George Mason, Providence, etc.). So can Texas get there? - sure. I don't have them in my Final Four, but they have the talent to get it done. But they could also get bounced in the second round. Just the way it is.
