  1. There was a kid from Kelly that played for Princeton but it was at least a decade after the 1989 tournament. His name was Edward Persia and he was at Princeton from 2000 - 2004.
  2. The only place where I have ever felt physically unsafe at a away game was at USL (now U La La) as we were sitting in the student section behind LU's bench and had several threats and vulgarities thrown down at us.
  3. At some point our inability to step on team's necks in the second half is going to bite us in the butt. I have seen it too often this season. Team gets a 15 - 20 point lead and with about 6 or 7 minutes left the intensity fades and the opponent comes right back and the Cards have to weather a storm and seal it in the last few minutes. Like JMay, I am still not convinced on the road, either.
  4. Well, I made the trip in from Houston to see the game, and it was my first of the year. I have been listening on the radio, but to be at the game was awesome. It reminded of how much fun it was going to all the games while I was a student. The atmosphere was awesome and the place was loud. Student section was really strong - but Zetas, please sit with the rest of the students. I know it was probably the only game you've been to all year, but they have signs that say student section. The best part of the game was McConathy's tech after the thrown ball on a pretty tame blocking foul and then when he fouled out. My only other observation is that sometimes the crowd spends too much time harrassing the officials and not enough time supporting the players.
  5. This game and the McNeese game really scare me. I think that SFA has a much easier remaining slate of games to play on their schedule, and all it takes is one slip for the Cards. I know that CC hasn't played well most of the year, but the first place team is coming to your place and you've never beaten them - sounds like all the motivation they will need.
  6. I see your pretty new on here---I'm a Longhorn fan. And in the tourney I think Duke only goes 2 deep. if not a loss early like last year. There are a lot of teams in the nation that would love to go two deep into the tournament. I mean they are 22-3 and first in the ACC which is historically the toughest basketball conference in the coountry (but down a bit this year) and have beaten UNC on the road, Marquette on the road, Clemson, Wisconsin, (all ranked) and Maryland twice. They do lack post presence, but how many teams have a dominant post presence. Wake beat Duke at their own game, and Miami almost let them back in after the worst half of basketball I have seen Duke play. Will I be surprised if Duke loses before the Sweet 16? No, it's the NCAA tournament! But I also won't be surprised in they get to the Final Four.
  7. That is exactly the kind of attitude that we don't need around here. Instead, all of us that have any affinity for Lamar University should be talking the program up to our friends and families and convincing them to invest in the program by buying tickets, donating a little, just doing whatever to get this thing off on the right foot.
  8. Man - That hurts - It may be time for Larry Hayes to ride off into the sunset in Lubbock.
  9. He was one of the most excellent human beings I have ever met. I was a student at the same time he was, and several of the most memorable games I have been to involved him. I know we went to the tourney the year after he was done, but I really wished we could have done it a year earlier so Matt would have had that opportunity. Will you please take that obnoxious TT flag off this site. It is an LU site. What's wrong woth my TT flag - How is it obnoxious. I have Lamar repped on my profile as well. I am a proud graduate of both institutions.
  10. Are they the #2 team in the country - No. However, are they still one of the best ten or so teams this year, Yes. ANd they are capable of going to the Final Four again. THey do shoot a lot of threes, but they also play terrific defense and force turnovers. And their guard play is excellent, which is what drives tournament success.
  11. This game worries me. The Cards see a struggling team coming in and they have nemesis Northwestern State and homecoming on Saturday. I hope they don't look past the Bears. I'll say that the CArds win but by making free throws at the end - by 5-7. 85-79
  12. Rim - I was just posing a question about the possibility of SFA getting an at large bid. I cannot comment on anyone beating the 83/84 team since I was 8 years old and barely remember that team. But I doubt that any of the SLC teams currently could beat either that Lamar team or the La Tech team.
  13. Should SFA win out but then lose in the SLC tourney finals, could they possibly get an at large bid, especially if they keep getting votes in the Top 25 poll. FYI, no team with at least 27 wins in a season has ever been left out of the NCAAs. SFA, in this scenario, would finish the year at 28-4.
  14. I have a a hard remembering some of the stuff during the 80s even though I was there for most of it as a kid with my dad, so I have to go with when I was there. Winning the SLC tournament in 2000 and advancing to the Dance is way up there. However there are two memories of games I was at that are the top plays for me, and they both involve the same player. 1. Matt Sundblad hits a 30 foot 3 pointer as time expires to beat Western Kentucky for the first time in school history. 2. Triple overtime game against La Tech in Ruston and Sundblad hits another three to send the game into the third OT and Lamar pulls away in 3OT.
  15. I am all for the band playing as much as possible. However when the dance team is out there, I think they should dance to canned music.
  16. I went and reviewed SFA's remaining schedule. They still have to play SHSU, UTA and TAMUCC, but two of those three are at home. The other remaining games they have are winners. I don't look for SFA to lose more than one more game the rest of the way, so LU has to keep on rolling.
  17. Pettitte and KNoblauch both verified McNamee's version of events. It doesn't look good for Clemens.
  18. But this year is different in that the number 1 seed is guaranteed a spot in the NIT if they do not qualify for the NCAAs by winning their conference tournament. So the best conference record definitely has a lot of importance.
  19. Good job at the FT line to seal the deal.
  20. LU down 1 with the ball and not a lot of time left
  21. 60 - 55 after CT 3 ball just over 3:00 left
  22. Yeah - I'm an idiot - SELA is in Hammond, right? Anyway, I ook for Coach Roc to try and get the ball inside a lot tonight. Ihope we can defend the perimeter well enough.
  23. I still don't trust this team to get it done on the road. I know they have won 2 in a row on the road, but how many had they lost in a row on the road before that. This is exactly the kind of game the guys could look past. A struggling team in Nicholls, looking ahead to coming home for Saturday's game, very little atmosphere in Hammond. Just a lot of bad vibes there and I would not at all be surprised if the Cards struggle tonight. Again, I hope I am wrong like I was the last road game, but until this team shows that it can consistently compete on the road, I don't trust them.
  24. Rick Barnes has pretty much owned the Red Raiders in Big 12 play.
