  1. Not the way we played in Conway. I don't see us keeping up against Northwestern St. This team is still dangerous and will ikely beat our Cardinals by 10. My heart says Cards, but my head knows better.
  2. I'm nervous about the vote - Not sure it will go across so easily. There are plenty of people out there that are not excited about the extra $130.00 on their tuition, and they complain about the parking and the condition of some of the buildings on campus. I'm not a student, so I can't vote, but I hope that 51% of the students that do vote, vote yes!
  3. ATR - I have to disagree with you on the Duke not being a great Duke team. I am sitting in my office right now looking at the poster of the opening tip of that game and Duke's starting lineup consists of three lottery picks. Boozer, Battier and Williams. ANd Mike Dunleavy came off the bench. That Duke team won the ACC tournament, was a #1 seed and advanced to the Sweet 16 before getting tripped up by a Florida team that went to the Finals that year. Lamar did hang with the Dukies in the first half - but only because Kenyon Spears was on fire that night. Anything he threw up went in in the first half. The Cardinals were within 4 with a couple of minutes left in the first half but ended the half down 11 and the Blue Devils opened it up early in the second half. As for my prediction - As an alumnus of both schools, I really can't go wrong. And as much as I would like to see my Cards pull an upset, it isn't going to happen. The one thing that the Cards have going for them is that the USA will be almost empty as the school is closed and there will be few students at the game. But I see Tech winning by about a dozen - in a low scoring affair - 64 - 52
  4. I really can't believe all this babble you guys are talking. These guys' names were thrown in the mud, they didn't have a chance to respond - ahhh my peepee hurts! Garbage. Mitchell said he gave everyone on the list the opportunity to talk with him personally about the information he had gathered - and only one player came forward to talk about it. One! Now Clemens goes and lawyers up and his lawyer goes to the media and says that Roger was blindsided by this - horse hockey. I am offended that Mr. HArdin thinks so little of the general baseball public's intelligence. Look, if the players didn't want their names on the list - all they had to do was go and talk with Mitchell. Explain their stories. As far as Bonds goes - he has testified under oath that he has taken steroids, albeit unkowingly. (Yeah right!) I still think he should be in the HOF based on what he did before he blew up to Hulk size. Same with Clemens. Pete Rose broke the cardinal rule in baseball - just like the guys on the 1918 White Sox. The day that the Hall lets Shoeless Joe in, I'll listen to the Pete Rose argument.
  5. Wrong - They have been illegal - by the law of the land - for many, many years. It doesn't matter if baseball did or didn't have a policy. Baseball cannot superced the law of the federal government or any of the states in which it operates. However, I think baseball has made progress on the issue, and for them to go back now - several years after a player's involvement with steroids and punish them doesn't make any sense.
  6. I've never seen a pitcher be as dominant as Mike Scott was in 1986 - especially in the NLCS. completely unhittable when his split was working.
  7. If we are relying on Brandon Backe - still recovering from Tommmy John Surgery to be our #2 starter than the pitching is as dreadful as everyone thinks. I don't think we can get a number 2 from anyone either though. The Astros will likely have to make due over paying for a guy like Lieber as any combo of Burke, Wiggington, Everett will not land to high a quality of SP. With this lineup though, they can score and in the NL Central the only teams that have any pitching are the Cubs, and to a lesser extent the Brewers.
  8. I really didn't want them to include Patton in a deal, and now they included Patton and Albers. We have absolutely no pitching. Maybe they can deal wiggington and Burke for a quality starter. This lineup id definitel formidable: Bourne Matsui Pence Berkman Lee Tejada Towles Everett Pitcher They are going to have to win games 13-12 though.
  9. I'll take Lamar by a dozen. The guards hit their shots at the beginning of the game opening up the middle for Sanders and NAbors. In the second half, the press of Dawkins and McThay wear down the Cougars and Lamar pulls away in the last few minutes. 82-70 *All hope, no head.
  10. At this point, no one really knows sho is going to the O's in return. 790 has speculated that a deal would likely include Everett, Burke, Patton, Scott or even Bourne. At this point no one knows. But the teams are still in talks despite the winter meetings ending. We also have to remember that Tejada has a no trade clause and can put the kibosh on the whole thing if he wants to.
  11. rumors are swirling that Ed Wade has acquired Miguel Tejada from the Orioles, but it is unknown who he is having to give up.
  12. With just over 13 minutes left in the first half TTech leads La Tech 16 - 12. Texas Tech then went on a 42-1 run which featured 25 unanswered points to stretch the lead and Texas tech blows out La Tech.
  13. I actually don't like the signing. I would rather them see what Chris Burke has and gotten to keep a draft pick. If anything, the Astros should be stockpiling draft picks to try and get as much talent back into the minor league system as possible. Furthermore, I'm not sure how much of an upgrade from Burke MAtsui really is. John Lopez said it best, Kaz Matsui is Japanese for "Chris Burke"
  14. Arguably the worst trade in franchise history, with the Finley Caminiti for Derek Bell trade mixed in.
  15. I don't like this deal. Matsui does add to the team speed and is likely an upgrade defensively at 2B, but I dont believe he will be a major contributor to this offense. He will likely bat second behind Bourne, and will have to be much better than his sub .250 road average. My biggest beef with this signing is that it takes one of our draft picks away, which I believe is this franchises most pressing need - farm system stockpiling. In this era of over paid and under performing free agents, the best way to build a team is through your own farm system. I would have been okay with Burke getting his shot at second for this year, even if we suffered through another losing season, knowing that we were stockpiling draft picks to bolster the farm system. Having said that, I hope that Kaz is phenomenal here and that he helps this team be competitive in the NL Central. MAybe Burke can be packaged as part of a deal with Luke Scott to get a 3rd or 4th starter, maybe even a mediocre 2nd starter. Good luck Ed Wade, you still have a lot of work to do to pick up the pieces that Timmy P. dropped.
  16. I have said it before and I'll say it again - It doesn't matter if every player on the team is from Samoa - if they win,, people will come and watch. Having said that, I want the best players available that Lamar can get. I would imagin that a pretty good portion of those will come from the SE Texas SW Louisiana area, but the coaching staff should never, ever restrict their own recruiting area, nor should they recruit a guy over another guy just because he is local. Whoever the coach is should scour the state of Texas for those hidden gems that the bigger schools don't have time to seek out.
  17. Why can't you blame him for it? It's ridiculous whar he is asking for. Reportedly the starting point is $350 million.
  18. Next year. Lamar signed a 2 for 1 deal with Tech. This year LU goes to the United Spirit Arena. NExt year, Coack Knight vrings the Red Raiders to the Montagne, and then LU goes back in 2009-2010..
  19. Better than Atiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim Brooooooooowwwwn?
  20. I think the starting lineup may be different on different nights depending on the opponent. I agree with Coach that being a starter isn't necessarily that important, but number of minutes you get. This team could be run like the old Kentucky teams where everybody plays and if anyone gets over twenty minutes a night it is a little strange. Having said that though, I can't see a night where, if I was the Coach, Sanders wouldn't plpay at least thirty minutes.
  21. That's what needs to happen - get the momentum rolling for the addition of football.

  23. I like the Craig Stump idea. I also like the big name that's been out of coaching for awhile idea. See Jerry Glanville at Portland State. But to me the best bet is a young coordinator at a big, not huge, school that has a background in recruiting. I do agree that if you were able to get a gut like Switzer or Slocum, have Stump as OC and pass it to him in a few years.
  24. I totallly disagree - winniing is what brings support. I agree that LU should look for local talent, but cannot let better players go so they can sign some local kid.
  25. This list is a little outdated. I know that JJ Reddick should be on this list too since the only person from Duke is Dawkins, but Reddick passed him his senior year.
