  1. Notice what I said too...I said a lot of better teams than BS don't have 3 college basketball players. I'm talking about any level as well. Trust me...if I coached a 2A school that had 3 D2 players on it I better be winning state every year I got em. Because that's a dynamite team. You guys are throwing these terms around pretty loosely...D2, D3, JUCO...you better believe those kids can ball too. Tell me the last time a small school had more than 1 player end up on a college roster.
  2. There are a lot of bigger school state champions, and quite a few schools better than Big Sandy that don't have 3 college basketball players on their team. Think about what you're saying.
  3. You're right it was a month ago. I didn't look at the date very closely. And I didn't say the Bullock kid wasn't a good player. I've seen him a couple times also. I'm playing devil's advocate...because I've personally seen a lot of D1 basketball courtside. And sometimes people believe that just because "he's the best we got" means he/she is better than they really are. College athletes are pretty serious on every level. Yes the Williams kid is some kind of smooth. For argument's sake..and just to rattle some cages ;).. I'm gonna say I might rather have him on my team than Bullock. I think he's more well rounded.
  4. My 2 cents. This game is a year ago December vs Kountze. First of all...If I see this film as a recruiter, I eliminate the possibility of D1 immediately. There isn't a D1 basketball payer on the floor of this game. You can tell Bullock is a decent player for sure.. But you guys are selling him as a lights out shooter. First off, he shoots from in front of his face (too low). 2nd, he's a pure set shooter, 3rd, he was like 1 for however many in the first half of this game including an air ball. And Kountze played zone only..which means he didn't have to create at all. He didn't move much, run off screens, create a shot off the bounce..My initial thoughts from this film is he is opportunistic scorer only. Catch and shoot, snowbird, etc.. I know the kid can shoot better than that because I've seen them play a few times. My thoughts are the same tho. 6'2 is a stretch BIG TIME, and he shoots with his feet to close to the floor. No doubt in my mind, however, that he absolutely annihilates the likes of West Hardin, Sabine Pass, Evadale, and those guys.. But the fact remains.. Kountze is terrible when it comes to team defense, but really fast. And he was only to hit one 3 in 16 mins of basketball. You guys are talking like he's the best shooter that's ever played the game. He's pretty good I'll admit..but D1? Sorry. Subsequently I really like the #4.
  5. Well I wasn't going to reply to this anymore...just can't help it I guess. Yes. They WILL NOT WIN. I'm not talking about state. I mean in general. They will win (possibly) any of these games but definitely not guaranteed. Sabine Pass, Burkeville, West Hardin, Hull Daisetta, Galveston O'Connell, Evadale. But like I said..NOT GUARANTEED. Most of those schools will be a loss for Colmesneil...currently. But they all fluctuate back and forth for worst 11 man football team in Texas. If Chester and High Island hadn't dropped to 6 man they'd be on the list too. If they have anyone other than that list on their schedule..they will lose. Hire who you want..won't matter. And no, I don't have a grudge against Colmesneil. Why do you think that? Because I said it's already a crappy job..and the fact they don't pay, give support, or have good players means they won't get a seasoned winner of a coach. You ever read any of my other posts? I'm not picking on Colmesneil..I pick on everybody. And yes...Waskom would NOT have won state if they hadn't had good players. Sorry bud...Even good coaches have to have something to work with. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken crap.
  6. Well it seems you are finally starting to get it...my original point to this whole mess was that Colmesneil will not win, no matter who they hire. You then fired off some nonsense about how Waskom was traditionally bad and then the new coach fixed it. Are you now admitting that Waskom had the talent to win on a high level. Because Colmesneil does NOT have the talent...and that's ok. But can you finally admit that even the Waskom coach will not be successful at Colmesneil like he was at Waskom. I sure hope so...I'm done with this either way. This conversation is making my IQ drop.
  7. can't stop it. Only thing would be to make every single kid sit out a year no matter what. But then recruiting would become even more rampant...I believe...as the article states.
  8. Yeah..I inferred that Waskom won state because they had a D1 commit in the backfield. He didn't win it by himself...but without him, I'll bet money that they don't win it. You take that kid out of the equation, they don't win it. You take a different kid out of the equation...they are probably still VERY good. You gave some names of some small school super stars that were on terrible teams. Yeah...great job. There are surely more examples that you can't even think of. But there are just as many or more examples of super star small school guys who were the reason their team was really good. And we will see how great of a coach he really is before long....Because every year he's been there is another year he's gotten to "develop" them. So technically he should keep racking up titles right? After he loses the kids I'm talking about that is... Right?
  9. Lot easier to get the first one into a college uniform than the second.
  10. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying that cards you were dealt has a lot more to do with it than being a great coach. I personally think some of the best coaches in the state are some that have maybe never even won a playoff game. And some coaches aren't very good coaches but may have been blessed with exceptional talent. It's a lot easier to teach a 6'4 265lb lineman to block than it is with a 5'10 145lb lineman.
  11. You just proved my point with that one single statement. You are comparing Colmesneil and Waskom...they are not relative in skill level. Did I say even one time that coaching doesn't matter AT ALL? Because I'm pretty sure I didn't. But I can tell you this...you can't name a single coach that's ever won any championship of any kind with only bad players. You can NOT do it.
  12. Lets do this...you hand pick 25 football coaches from anywhere in the country, including college and pro...and let them coach at Colmesneil High School with the kids they had this last year. I'll let my 4 year old granddaughter be head coach at Bremond with the current coaches they have on staff, and the players they had this year. Both get 16 weeks to prepare...How do you think it's going to go? Because I know how it's going to go...It will be a true testament to how much or little you think coaching truly matters.
  13. no, my comprehension is just fine. Not that I need to debate with you about that. And no your point is not proven. Yes, when you get to a certain level it takes more than one superstar to get it done. All of the kids you mentioned played schools that takes more than one star to beat. But if you put any of the kids you just mentioned in Colmesneil's backfield...then yes they go from a losing team to a winning team. I really don't care who the coach is. Will they win state?..Maybe not. Maybe tho. Just goes to show that perhaps the rest of the players for the Waskom State title team may have been better than you think. My point was this...Colmesneil will not win with the kids they currently have. You said..."Waskom had a tradition of losing as well"... and the Coach made all the difference. Well..that just isn't true. Had that coach come to Colmesneil instead of Waskom...Colmesneil would've still been terrible. And Waskom would've still been good. I'm a basketball guy so here's something you need to remember.. Phil Jackson won ZERO championships in Chicago without Michael Jordan. But, won 6 with him. Wow...what a funny coincidence Players can make the difference in someone being Coach of the Year... or being fired.
  14. I think size may be the problem. And please stop saying "not good enough for D1..but maybe juco or D2". There is a TON of talent on every level of college athletics. I'll admit there is a significant drop off most of the time..especially in terms of size and athleticism.. But coaches on those level are trying to recruit the best possible players too. Colleges beat teams in higher classifications every year.
  15. Apparently you're unaware of how much impact a player of that caliber can make in a small school. Especially one that's in the backfield. Well let me clarify...it...literally...is the difference between winning state championships and not winning them.
  16. I know it would be the easy thing to do. I just don't know why they would put Coldspring and LaMarque in the same district in Region 4. LaMarque I could see no doubt...but I still like to think that UIL at least keeps the regions geographically sensible. Coldspring is a lot further north than the typical region 4..at least when you consider Hardin, Anahuac, and East Chambers have actually been in and out of region 4 already. Honestly I don't know tho...UIL definitely does not always do things that make sense.
  17. You're gonna make a comparison to a team (small school) that had D1 commits in the backfield?.. TALENT goes the WHOLE way at that level. I'm not saying the Waskom coach isn't a good coach...but he's not winning state at Colmesneil High School. I'll bet every dollar I have on that one.
  18. True, every head coach get's their first head coaching job at some point. But you're wrong if you think they'll find somebody truly committed to building. This is a stepping stone to the fullest. You're also wrong if you think you have to have head coaching experience to get a good head job. Why would you risk taking a crappy job just to say you've been a head coach?.. unless you're young (don't know any better) or bad. I was told by very good sources that the previous AD's got zero support from admin, and once you start losing everybody knows you get zero support from the community. This is a no win situation. Head Coach experience or not.. He will make no money, get to hire no coaches, get no new facilities, have no support, and WILL NOT WIN. Why on earth would anyone put themselves through that?
  19. Exactly like I said. A rookie coach looking for the title of Head Coach...so they can have it on their resume. Be sure and tell them that they will probably not get very much of a payraise if they get one at all. In my opinion it won't be worth the headache they're about to endure. But that's just me...well...and several people I know. Good luck to all involved.
  20. I think part of a Sup's success is based on what they do for the school financially also. Sup that leaves a school in the positive has a lot more probability of landing a better sup job than leaving a school in the hole. That trumps a well rounded athletic program. Especially for smaller districts that depend very heavily on every single dollar earned/spent...and literally have people's job depending on the number of transfer students they may or may not get. It's not about the kids like it should be..Otherwise you wouldn't have teachers teaching more than 1 prep or several different subjects..like a lot of small schools do. If my kid's math teacher only teaches 1 grade of math, and your kid's math teacher teaches multiple grades of math...my kid is learning more math. I don't care what anyone says..you can't put your entire focus on several things and expect to be good at them. But schools do it anyway to save from hiring more teachers. And that's just an example. Like the one on topic now...why hire another administrator, and a teacher...when you can just give the teacher a stipend for doing head football. It's about money...and it's a shame. Because if they do that the kids will suffer. And maybe the sup won't absorb AD responsibilities... they still won't be willing to pay what it's gonna take to get a good football coach. I've heard from very good sources that the last few Colmesneil AD's were making a salary in the 50'sK range. So you know what...I change my mind. The sup needs to take AD duties because they won't get a good one anyway. Happy hunting.
  21. The fact that the sup is absorbing the AD responsibilities shows that they as a school district care very little about the athletic program. It would've been hard enough to hire a good football coach because it's quite obvious that the talent pool (if there ever was one) is completely drying up. Now throw in the fact that the HFC will likely have to teach classes...even if it's P.E...you are guaranteed to get a coach that is either a terrible coach and can't find a job anywhere, or a rookie coach that's looking for the title of Head Coach. Either way Colmesneil will not get a good football coach because they aren't even trying. I would say I feel bad for the kids and community but they deserve what's coming.
  22. Sounds like typical small town crap to me. People start bashing coach because they aren't satisfied with results. Nothing at all to do with the fact that maybe the kids aren't any good.. Not at all.. Am I mistaken or are the kids playing now part of the same groups that had to have 6th graders play in JH so they'd have enough for a team to begin with? And didn't these groups pretty much go win less in sub-varsity and JH competition? Same song and dance..smh. By the way..1st you meed with the Coach himself. (if he'll meet with you. I wouldn't.) 2nd step in the chain of command is Sup, not principal. AD and principal are on same level. Then if not satisfied you speak at board meeting. But board makes hires on Sup's recommendations (vast majority of the time). At least they should.. You can't just fire someone because of disgruntled fans or parents. The guy is under contract and will remain under contract unless he is non renewed or breaks the agreement of his contract. Shame this community gets so much attention because of a few idiots.
  23. Hey I don't have a dog in the fight. Just playing devil's advocate. You've been reading my posts long enough to know how I post. Mostly to get a rise out of one or more/multiple people.
  24. Just throwing this out there. HJ outscored Silsbee entire game but 2nd quarter. I know all that matters is the win. But things may be different next time. And a lot of talk about Silsbee being "hot" from 3. 7 for 25 is hot? Well dang...I was a better shooter than I thought. Ok. Carry on.
