  1. 101 high school enrollment.. imagine having 4% of the entire high school being horsemen. That's pretty significant.
  2. The hypothetical here is that IF Newton drops another classification.. which is what I thought I saw earlier. At that point, Newton could play any of the 3ad2 schools or wide variety of 3ad1 schools and would still be playing up in the preseason. If Newton were to drop then it would probably more likely that a 4A teams stops scheduling them.
  3. What I'm saying is that there is so much time between Week 2 and Round 4 that it doesn't matter. That's literally 12 straight weeks of probably blowing somebody out.. 12 weeks of starters not going in past halftime.. 12 weeks of playing zero situations that are gonna be seen deep into the playoffs. Does it matter that a close game was played several months before? In my opinion, no. So who cares if WOS drops the game going forward..
  4. You have zero proof that it wouldn't have still worked with a different preseason schedule.
  5. I'm not sure you're understanding what I'm saying. I'm saying that by the time they're deep into the playoffs, it's been several weeks/months since they've had a "preparation game". You have no idea whether or not the season would have turned out exactly the same or not by playing different schools in the preseason. When you win by 50/60/70 points for 6 weeks in a row.. then keep doing so until round 3, does it really make a difference that you had a close game in week 2? I don't think it does.. the starters haven't played more than 2 quarters since then. If anything, they've forgotten what it's like to have to play a whole game. There's no way that you can convince me that 2 weeks of "prep games" has an effect but 10 weeks of blowouts doesn't. Wanna play bigger schools preseason? Fine.. go ahead. I'm just saying that it doesn't make as much difference as people think. Newton would've won those state titles no matter if they played WOS before district or not. And.. can't be mad at WOS for not wanting to play a school multiple classifications lower... in football. That's a no-win situation for them.
  6. My opinion: Playing "bigger" schools in the preseason doesn't really prepare you for anything.. if you play every district game after and even the first couple/few playoff games as a blowout win. What was accomplished? After winning 8 games in a row by 60 points I mean.. The preseason "preparation" is wiped away at that point.
  7. Players + Coaching + Competition level = Success Any 2 of the 3 can lead to a great year. Maybe not a state championship year, but good year. Just having 1 of the 3 isn't enough. It takes good players.. and it takes preparation/strategy. But that wouldn't be enough in a juggernaut district/region/classification. It happens every two years... Same relative coaching staff, a lot of the same players, but reclassification may turn zeros into heroes or vice versa. Just like I've seen good coaches have mediocre years because of lost talent or even graduation. Or injuries... And not that great of coaches can have pretty good years if they have a lot of talent or are in a weaker level of competition. It's crazy to think that there aren't a lot of variables. But I will never be convinced that all it takes is great coaching. MOST coaches are practicing stuff that is designed to be successful. And MOST coaches are taking stuff from coaches/teams that are successful.
  8. I can’t believe it’s close either. Especially for that long.
  9. My personal opinion: I think it's dumb when schools do that. I also think they shouldn't be given the choice. But... not up to me.
  10. I'm looking forward to watching this one... I hope it's as good of a game as I think it might be.
  11. Kirbyville shuffling the district deck. I like it.
  12. There are undoubtedly reasons that you have no idea about. Most importantly.. that it’s completely the coach’s decision. The coach that continues to be successful.. and led EC on a very deep run relatively recently. Yeah, I’m trusting his intuition over.. well.. yours for sure. Certainly you don’t think this kid should’ve played over last year’s district MVP? Certainly not. Yeah.. it’s bad timing for the kid. I really don’t have any idea, but, if the senior is evenly remotely close to the young kid as far as talent… I’d personally go with the younger kid. Because he’ll improve with experience. Who cares if the senior improves.. for next year? He’ll be gone.
  13. There isn't a person here that doesn't feel bad for the kids or the situation. It's definitely a very uncommon thing that their school enrollment has gone the opposite direction of the norm.. especially at such a quick rate. I'm really wondering what's going on over there to cause it... Anyway. Unfortunately.. I don't think it's something that they'll ever live down. The poster that you're referring to, (the one that only shows up when they beat literally anybody).. has ruined it for the school. The four horsemen thing will never die.
  14. Was football 3 on 3 that year?
  15. As to his offensive and defensive strategy, Whitmire said he’s not locked in to one system. “I evaluate the talent we have and play them to their strengths.” What a concept. I like him already..
