How so?

That was a great team. I was partial to the other kid.. Benson I think (can't remember exactly). That kid was incredible for that team.. quietly incredible because of the attention Angel got. .
-
I knew Gunter defense was going to give them issues.
-
I think they’re gonna be in for a rude awakening with the Gunter defense.
-
WOW
-
I mentioned players. Gene pool is included in that.. you could also throw in transfers.
-
players + coaches + strength of schedule = wins. players > coaches strength of schedule > players and coaches. Even bad coaches can win games with great players. Even bad coaches can win with an easy schedule. Good coaches will win when preparation/experience come into play with comparable talent. EVEN GOOD COACHES CAN NOT WIN (deep runs) WITHOUT GOOD PLAYERS I don't care what you say.. sometimes graduation is the difference between a state contender and struggling to make playoffs. Sometimes UIL cutoffs/alignments make the difference between winners and losers.

Some people appreciate brutally honest comments. It's me.. I'm some people.

If it’s all about coaching then why doesn’t WOS win state every year? Was he a worse coach this year than the years they won it?

I have no doubt that they have some great facilities. I've seen their indoor practice field as well as some of their gyms. It's nice. But back to my statement.. I'm pretty sure they don't want any low income housing.
-
I don’t think the good people of Mont Belvieu want affordable housing in the school district. Seems to me that they’re content with that being Dayton’ thing.
-
We've all seen that. A lot of schools have that level of consistency (other than winning state titles). There's something else... You think Aledo has a higher level of consistency than Calallen High School... who's been under the leadership of Phil Danaher since what...1984? Even Cornel Thompson at WOS has been there forever. What exactly are you talking about when you say consistency?
-
People will say it's because of money.. maybe so.. but there are also poor town around the state that are just making school/athletics more of a priority somehow. I'll say this, it's slowly catching fire. There are more and more schools around setx updating/replacing those old worn down facilities with nicer stuff.

I would have a hard time betting against Carthage in THIS GAME no matter the circumstances. Up, down, underdog, injuries, whatever... I've been conditioned to say that Carthage has a better shot at winning this one just because.
-
1.) This is recruiting.. it's recruiting without having to recruit. Yes, money plays a huge role. First class facilities brings them in and wealthy families provide the kids with everything needed. 2.) You are 100% going to get judged for this. Several years ago I made this same argument and was blasted on this site. Back when WOS couldn't get past Carthage and I brought up the difference between having a 100 yard indoor practice field and riding a school bus to the state championship game. For the most part, people (SETX) refuse to believe that "what my grandaddy had" isn't good enough anymore.

A friend of a friend told me that Coach Sutherland just got his 800th win with this one. Congrats! That's an awesome feat.

San Augustine 21 Refugio 29/FINAL

Only one stat that matters. 29 points for 21 points against "And nothing else matters." - Metallica -
I know it's tough.. I'm not arguing that there's a better way to put 93 teams into 16 divisions. Just that maybe the numbers should not have been done so that it's even possible to have 4/5 teams districts. Especially if UIL is adamant about have 4 make the playoffs. It's just crazy to me. I would almost rather just make the cutoffs more spread out and have big school and small school playoff brackets. Like before.
-
So.. five 5 team districts and one 4 team district? If so, UIL never ceases to amaze.

04 is as far back as it goes so I can’t say either way. I’m sure there were some decent (relative) teams in the past when the population was a little higher. No doubt HD had success back during the oil boom but I’ve heard the town has been slowly dying for a while. -

Not to butt in to y’all’s conversation..but according to maxpreps. Dating back to 04 HD is 2004 3-8, 2005 4-6, 2006 7-4, 2007 7-4, 2008 7-3, 2009 5-6, 2010 5-6, 2011 4-6, 2012 7-4, 2013 4-7, 2014 4-6, 2015 2-8, 2016 7-4, 2017 4-7, 2018 5-5, 2019 2-7 Since 2004 that’s 73-87 (Pretty sure) with a large majority of those wins coming against West Hardin, Sabine Pass, Chester, High Island, or Burkeville. Sorry.. but it is what it is. -
Nothing like that. I was following the score via FootballFriday (or whatever it’s called now) and texted a few days after. Sounds like an awesome game to be at.
-
My mistake everyone.. it’s 585 for Aledo. I misread the text and added the rushing yards to the total. That’s still 1,463 between the two.
