My mistake.. I misread the text. I have a friend on the Ennis coaching staff. Text said 585 offense and 349 rushing. I added the two together. He also said they had 35 first downs..? That’s insane.
-
Over the weekend Aledo and Northshore accounted for over 1800 yards of total offense between the two of them. Aledo- 934 NS - 878 In the regional finals no less. Unbelievable.

Absolutely right. Never mind the fact that HD graduated what little talent they had over the last couple seasons, had their best returner transfer, and played with a bunch of freshmen, oh..and played some of those ^ games with injuries... None of that matters. They should've won district and made a deep run. Excuse me while I roll my eyes. LOL -

Again.. you obviously don’t know the situation. I already explained that there was good reason for waiting to make the decision. I also said that he made it clear that he was more than happy to resign if the school (Sup/board) wasn’t happy with it. I also explained that they ^ decided he was too valuable to their school leadership goals to let leave over one football season where he (for the one time and last chance) would be able to attend all of his Son’s high school football games. You don’t have to agree with it but you might as well be happy about accepting it. -

You’re comparing “do you think the school I teach at to let me sit at home and pay me?” to him not being the head football coach this year? Does he sit at home and get paid to be an athletic director? The current HC IS NOT the AD.. maybe you didn’t mean to type that. I think coaching had an effect on little things like structure and discipline (not that it was bad). I think the head coach had zero effect on the overall record. None. -

It appears that you aren’t familiar with the situation either. A) I said he was ignorant because his original post implied that the head coach stopped coaching in order to be an AD only, dodging the responsibilities of being a head coach and all that comes with it. B ) did it ever occur to you that there may have been good reason for waiting until the end of summer to make the decision? I don’t know the situation in full detail, nor do I know the coach personally, nor is it any of mine or your business so I won’t post the reason I heard for him waiting. But it’s a legitimate reason (if what I heard is true). Furthermore, I heard that he actually offered to resign if the district wasn’t happy with his reasoning.. but that the Sup and board decided that he was too valuable to the school so they agreed to give him the year to be a dad to his senior son. Again.. information that I heard from my friends that have friends. Even if none of that is true, it seems to me that HD fans are notorious for wanting instant success when it just isn’t feasible. I happen to remember at the beginning of the season all of the “it’s gonna be a good thing..won’t miss a beat” type talk when word of your basketball guy was taking over. So I don’t wanna hear it. Yeah, I said he was ignorant because of (explanation ^).. maybe you’re a little bit ignorant as well. -

I think I read one time that HD has only won two playoff games (total) since their state title back in..? 70’s?.. So to answer your question, the SC year was their last good playoff run. -

The head coach stepped down for the last chance to watch his senior son play football, who attended a different school. From what I’ve heard it wasn’t permanent. Regardless, HD would’ve sucked no matter who was calling the shots because they were a young team in a tough district. Your ignorance is staggering. -
I've never known a tech to have anything to do with the possession arrow. But..if at the end of the half/quarter then the tech has to be honored (2 ft's plus ball opposite the clock) no matter who get's next possession. In this case I'm pretty sure the arrow stays, but the opposite team of tech gets their tech possession first.
-
Leave possession arrow alone. Team B should get ball from the tech (2 free throws and ball) at the start of the next half.. not as a result of the possession arrow. Techs don’t change possession arrow.

BREAKING NEWS from DCTF Matt Stepp
oldschool2 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Football
Loaded with talent?.. Maybe the fine citizens of Dayton have forgotten what talent looks like. I have a hard time believing that Dayton has all of this talent that isn't capable of winning football games. I have no doubt they have some talented kids but it doesn't seem to be enough for the likes of their competition. Maybe bring back the Dayton/Liberty game. -
Possibly.. but we'll never know. I do know that my argument back then was that there were a lot of variables at play. Specifically, had WOS been in D1 those years they would have had a much tougher road to when they would've played Carthage. It's very rare that a team doesn't see competition until Arlington. That makes a ton of difference. Like I said.. Lots of things could have happened. It's easy to speculate. Back to the thread. I have a sneaky suspicion that this won't be much of a game past the first couple possessions.
-
When WOS and Carthage were in the same region... WOS couldn't get out. Times change and things happen but WOS's recent state titles happened after the classification split. In which separated these two schools.

Maybe you should ask him.. Or.. volunteer to help. I'm sure every coach in the state would love the advice of the plethora of sideline experts. I know I would. Sounds to me like with your advice of adjusting sooner then overtime could have been avoided altogether. Know what.. I bet HF could go all the way. You need to get down to that school, Shooter, and coach these kids up. Run the "Picket Fence". But don't you let em get caught watching the paint dry. *Yes I made a reference to the drunk, volunteer coach in the movie 'Hoosiers' who ended up being irrelevant in the overall success of the season. -
Teams that are accustomed to being in the playoffs and making runs at it do this. It is very possible to focus on the team coming up and still prepare for the possibility of a win. It's not cocky.. it's preparation.

I really hope I’m included in the “same 3-4 people” that you’re referring to. It would truly be flattering. Not that it matters, but I’ll offer a reasonable explanation. Nobody talks down on anyone.. that doesn’t over exaggerate the predicted talent of the team they root for. Like some WH posters did. Do that and you’re gonna get attacked..every time. ALSO.. people who blame coaches for their team’s lack of talent (like you just did)... will also get attacked. Maybe you don’t read many of my posts outside of anything WH related, but I don’t discriminate against delusional fans or coach bashers of ANY school. You honestly think the coaching staff would’ve mattered against Evadale, Grapeland, Lovelady, or Mart? No offense but you guys just brought a knife to a gun fight. They all just have better horses in the stable. Setting yourself up.

No argument here. I think all 4, 5, AND 6 team districts should be done away with.
-
I’ve said it before.. most of the time the 4 seed gets absolutely embossed by a district champ, sparking the argument that too many teams go. But.. every once in a while the 4 seeds makes a competitive outing. Or wins. In my opinion, justifying the sending of 4. Yes, UIL needs to get rid of 4/5/6 team districts. Just this week: New Diana (4) played a ten point game with two time defending state champ Newton (1). Texas High (4) BEAT fifth ranked Lufkin (1). Winnsboro (4) BEAT Hooks (1). I’m sure there are other relative examples.

-Two years ago- WH- "Yay! We dropped in class.. now we're gonna.." (Evadale, Lovelady, Grapeland, Mart)- "You're gonna what?" WH- "Sorry guys.. I didn't mean anything by it."

86 Teams make UIL Football Playoffs with losing Records
oldschool2 replied to BADSANTA's topic in High School Football
Well then the UIL is missing it's chance. If it's only about money they should let every team in and do a double elimination tournament. Heck.. let's play two games a week. Or three. Who cares about what's good for students and schools let's just make it happen.
