86 Teams make UIL Football Playoffs with losing Records
oldschool2 replied to BADSANTA's topic in High School Football
Oh I was joking. While it may seem overly watered down (maybe it is).. every year either a 3 or 4 beats a 1 or 2. That in itself justifies taking 4 teams. Some districts are strong and some are trash. In the end.. it only takes two or three rounds to truly weed out the ones that don’t belong. As for teams in the playoffs with losing records.. you can’t punish them all to spite a few. Some teams have losing preseason records because they jumped on some giants before district. Some playoff teams only have winning records because they played cupcakes before district. You can’t base a playoff team on overall record.. otherwise nobody would play anyone that’s any good. Like I said.. it works itself out. The cream always rises to the top. -

18/19 3-20. Yeah.. surely they'll do better than that. -
best coaches in the area???
oldschool2 replied to UNT-AggieMan's topic in High School Boys Basketball
That's 100% true.. there are talented teams all across the state incapable of making deep runs due to their attitude/commitment. In fact.. the "best" team in the state does not win the state championship on a regular basis. But.. there are ZERO teams making deep runs that lack talent. No matter what kind of attitude they bring everyday. See the difference? -
Vidor at Dayton predictions.....
oldschool2 replied to Mytwocents3788's topic in High School Football
If I had to make a guess on this one.. I'd have to say that Vidor wins fairly easily and Epstein didn't kill himself. -
Technically.. if every school in the state fudged their number in order to drop then they would all be in the same exact boat they were trying to avoid to begin with. But seriously.. I'll never understand why the h*ll the state (A) advertises when the count is gonna be in the first place (B) depends on the schools to do their own counting. Like you said.. the state gives money based on that attendance so just randomly pick a day and do an average attendance report based on what the school turns in every single day anyway. It seems like UIL is asking for issues.

Anahuac at Orangefield, Battle for 2nd

OF by 2+ scores. -
Or just let everyone in the playoffs.

Well I truly have no idea. Your guess is probably better than mine.

DiappointING?.. Meh.. I'm sure there were some teams who had a fair amount of relative "success" last year that didn't reciprocate this season. Most people don't take graduation into account.. most of the time it really hurts a team. On occasion, it can help a team. DisappointED? I would imagine that every team that didn't finish in the top 4 of their district is pretty bummed about it. Especially considering that most of the area districts are mediocre-awful on a regular basis. Obviously, there are usually a couple of exceptions where a few area schools will win 2-3 playoff games or more. As stated previously, the entire area seems to be a little down. More so than usual. I'm thinking San Augustine might be better than I thought they would be at the beginning of the year.. but they're always a potential contender.

How’s the prediction working out?

best coaches in the area???
oldschool2 replied to UNT-AggieMan's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Any coach can have success with the players some of them have had. Players make it a lot easier. Still great coaches, no doubt. It's impossible to gauge who the best coaches in the area are because some coaches have an abundance of talent while others are forced to do their best with lesser talent. I would definitely say that Foster is a great coach as well but even his deep runs he had a couple of college caliber players. -
District 11 Coldspring-Oakhurst - 396 Crockett - 312 Diboll - 428 Elkhart - 299 Franklin - 291 Palestine Westwood - 374 Trinity - 332 By the way.. I totally made up every on of those ^ numbers. I honestly have no idea what their enrollments are.

Even great coaches need good players. I'm not saying whatever school you're talking about couldn't have been improved in some areas but you wouldn't be able to put the best coaches in the state at several schools and expect them to come out of there with a state title. It's proven every single year. And if it was strictly based on coaching then the same coaches would have the same results every year.

I'll remember you said this over the next couple weeks ;).

If West Hardin is included in the small school it will bring down a whole bunch of D1 schools that weren't there this year. I know traditionally all of the numbers go up slightly but I'm told it'll make too many schools D2 in that class as opposed to D1. Look for that particular cutoff to stay about the same as last time.
-
I couldn't help but notice you included West Hardin in that 2A DII range. Bad news, friend... I doubt that happens based on some things I'm hearing from some friends who have friends. We will see, though. UIL is a strange bird.

Anahuac gonna lose that one too.

I've seen dumber... but this is a dumb thread.
