From The Files Of "That It's All About The Coaching!"
oldschool2 replied to Reagan's topic in High School Football
Players or coaches? Here are two examples for you that are relevant. Barbers Hill Football. Is it the players...or the coach? Kountze Basketball. Is it the players...or the coach? -

TODD PAINE NAMED NEW HC AT KOUNTZE
oldschool2 replied to urban_meyer's topic in High School Football
I doubt very seriously that he'd give up the AD title voluntarily. Right or not... I'm willing to bet that he "and others" feel as though he has earned the right to be the Athletic Director of Kountze High School. Regardless of the sport. True that they won't get a seasoned football guy without that title and money that goes with it. I would hope they can somewhat negotiate on how to find the new person a salary relatively deserving of a Head Football Coach without piling a lot of other sports on top of it to do so. You might be surprised. There are a lot of young, hungry football coaches out there that really want to get their start. No matter what happens I'm sure it'll work out fine. Certainly, it'll be much better for Joubert not having to deal with that extra headache. Which also makes me certain that he'll try to hire someone that will be capable of absorbing some of that stress. -
Nobody is calling his ability into question. I just think that he may have outkicked his coverage. Even the hardest working of individuals can bite off more than they can chew.

TODD PAINE NAMED NEW HC AT KOUNTZE
oldschool2 replied to urban_meyer's topic in High School Football
Probably because up until this year basketball was the best game in town. Why take over a program that has never been in any good just to give up a program that's a consistent powerhouse? -
You and I can both agree that Joubert was the best person for football. However, if you try and tell me that he or anyone else can successfully devote the time/energy required to do Head Football AND Head Basketball in the same season then we will have to agree to disagree. Just like I don't think it's possible to do Head Basketball and Head Baseball in the same season. It is very possible and even likely to stretch yourself too thin. Eventually, a choice has to be made which one to give max effort to or a choice has to be made to split your effort between the two. Just one small example.. when he was doing Head Basketball only do you really think he cared if his kids decided not to play football and to go in the gym every day after school? So what do you do when you take over football? Convince them they need to play football and help the football team even though it may hurt the basketball team?.. See what I mean?

SMH about yeah he will? Or SMH about the experiment running it's course?

Surely you get the joke.. lol #confidence>preparation

Tell me about OF’s big kid? Is he anything other than a big presence? -
Kountze should’ve played a tougher preseason schedule.

Good for Coach Joubert. He had no business doing football and basketball. -

Well.. for the sake of what I’m arguing (confidence>preparation) I’d have to say that all teenagers today have a seemingly fragile mind. That makes sense to why so many teams get to have a playoff shirt every year. It makes sense to why there are so many kids who are on All District lists. I’m afraid that the days of challenging kids in an attempt to make them want to be better..are behind us. It seems to me that (according to my coaching friends around the state) it’s easier to either quit or not play at all rather than do something that might be physically or mentally painful. Is the mindset that fragile at Hardin? Probably so. -

Not that I care.. but I doubt there is a schedule that could’ve been made nor a coach in the state that could beat EC, OF, or Buna with what Hardin has to work with. so actually.. yeah.. Being just good enough to beat the Warrens, Anahuacs, and Kirbyvilles of the district doesn’t sound like a bad plan. -
When two teams of relatively equal talent play each other.. I’m betting on the team that’s used to winning. Those kids don’t care who’s on the schedule. I truly believe that the only reason Hardin beat a couple equally talented teams in football was because of the fact that they went into the game with a winning record. You can make whatever argument you want.. EC is better than they were last year..yet Hardin played them just as “close”. Warren had a tougher preseason schedule..exponentially. Yet they lost to Hardin who had a cupcake schedule. I’m not condoning scheduling all cupcakes because I believe you do need to put your team in some uncomfortable situations..but at the end of the day, if you want the team to trust that the coach is doing what it takes to win games then it needs to reflect that on the schedule.

Told ya..teenage kids don’t care about playing tough games to prepare. They see those games as losses. I think you guys are understanding how weak the mind of a teenager is. confidence > preparation

Lol!! Knew it wouldn’t take long. There was literally not a more successful high school football coach that could have taken the BH job. This proves my point that I’ve made too many times to count.

Guys.. it was never gonna happen. Longview has more students to choose from. Bigger enrollment always wins. Oh.. they don’t? I can’t explain it then. In all seriousness.. great season Westbrook. There isn’t a team in the state that wouldn’t take a lead in the title game and take their chances with that. Nothing to be ashamed of. -
I have no doubt that freshmen won't succeed on varsity. Is .500 the norm for Kountz JH teams?.. because that doesn't seem like the kind of success that'll carry over even when they become upper classmen.
-
Hard to "right the ship" if the ship is taking on water. I don't think Kountze has had a very good JH team in a while. We seem to be seeing that now.
-
I was thinking that as well..but it wouldn't make sense to let someone on LaRue's staff to take over. 6A programs that aren't "successful" usually bring in from outside the box. If someone comes from out of the school they don't want any of the current staff. I wouldn't think anyway.. This whole things seems kind of crazy to me.
-
That ^^ is how you get a 29-year-old Special Teams Coordinator as a 6A Head Coach. Good job LP.
-
Well, somebody said earlier that they thought Warren and Kountze were on about the same level. I don’t know.. just thinking that if there’s any truth to that then they might be in the mix as well.
-
What about Warren?

Which school has the largest enrollment? I heard that the school with the most kids to pick from wins every time. In fact.. you could almost say it isn't fair.
