You can... in terms of a public school salary because they're not all the same. So. If West Hardin teachers aren't satisfied with the salary that they are receiving at the West Hardin public school then they actually have options. They can: 1. Keep complaining about their salary yet go to work every day for that salary anyway. 2. Stop going to work and refuse to work at West Hardin public school until the school either replace them or is forced to figure out a way to pay more money if it can't hire more teachers. 3. Apply and go to work for a different public school that pays more money. Same is true for class size.. not happy with the number of kids you have in class? See above options ^. Not happy with the school contribution to benefits? Above options ^.

Actually, it's not our or anyone else's opinion concerning the salaries of teacher, doctors, oil field workers or anyone else. We live in a capitalist economy where supply/demand drives everything. The demand for medical field employees is much higher so they get paid more. Just like their services cost more. As long as there are teachers willing to work for 40K/year then that's what they will get paid. Maybe teachers should just walk away or refuse to work and then we'll see how important an education really is. Or not. It's whatever to me.. I also know a lot of teachers that are perfectly happy with how much they get paid. We are, in fact, talking about the salary at West Hardin. Other schools pay a lot more so teachers could go to work somewhere else.

I'm definitely not saying you're wrong. There wouldn't be doctors without teachers...but should teachers make more money than doctors? In my opinion, no.

To be fair... working 6 months of out of the year in an environment where there are literally potential life-threatening explosions for 12 hour days doing back-breaking labor is probably worth three times more. At least.
-
You aren't understanding my point that a teacher making $40K/yr is more than likely not supporting an entire family (spouse/kid(s)) with that salary alone? I won't waste my time explaining any simpler than that...I don't think I could anyway.

I agree that they're a joke.. but it still stands true that each teacher in the district is more than likely not the only person putting a paycheck into the bank. A female teacher making 40K so she can work at the school her kids go to with a husband that might work in a chemical plant making.. I dunno.. $30/hr can probably provide a pretty good life for their family. Even if they have a husband/wife combo working at the school... $80K/year between the two of them is enough to not starve. I personally know guys that make that much and their wife doesn't work.. what's the difference? There isn't a way to persuade someone with genuine experience to go there and work. I'm sure they get a lot of young coaches, coaches at the end of their career, or maybe someone having a hard time finding a coaching job anywhere else.
-
Are you assuming that these teachers are supporting their family on their teacher salary alone? There is a likelihood that they also have a working spouse.

Thanks for clearing it up. That ETC is a little subjective, though. Might be better clarified to specifically say "coach, referee, or any person(s) tied to any particular school/town." I got you though.
-
I don't have a dog in this fight.. but.. it kind of does matter. Which rule is being broken?.. and what coach, player, referee, or other member was called a name? The only reason I bring it up is that I post some things every once in a while that people probably don't like but I still don't break the forum rules. Like if I said some school was a blazing dumpster fire.. probably offensive but not against the rules. This isn't against the rules either.

For a school with that few kids, it actually isn't terrible.
-
Sorry, my man.. I thought I was on the West Hardin thread.
-
What are you considering "in the area"? The greater Batson area? Or are you talking about Hardin County.. (because Hardin county schools pay peanuts)?
-
-Great kids -High rating -Hardworking These are usually code words (when stated alone) for "we are absolutely awful but I need to find a compliment because saying things like "we are beyond terrible" would probably get me in trouble".
-
Maybe so..but from the perspective of a prospective Athletic Director / Head Football Coach, it is certainly a bad school. The only saving grace could be if the school decided to use their low numbers to their advantage and drop to 6 man to try to be competitive. If the community doesn't want that to happen..maybe it's a bad community as well. From the perspective of an AD/HFC I mean.

Sounds about West Hardin to me.

I'm not implying that you're for "everyone getting a trophy" just stating that it HAS to have a limit and in my opinion, this is a good one to have. I know there are several teams in the area but remember that up until very recently there were only 10 kids on the 1st Team All-State for each class and 10 2nd teamers (according to TABC). Now they just do 20 All-State kids. That's out of hundreds of teams and it usually always includes the 4 or 5 kids that were on the State Tournament All-tournament team (which I don't agree with). I'll agree with you that there are probably enough teams in the area to expand it some and still not be considered watered down.. It's just refreshing (like I said) to see it done this way as it makes it more prestigious for those chosen since it's so few. You're 100% correct about All-District awards these days... way out of hand is a much more politically correct description than I would have used. -
Without a doubt. Most likely won't be anyone experienced, though.
-
Yeah, that's usually not a good formula... In this case, the Assistant principal is not only the AD but the head basketball coach. That's an even worse formula.
-
Agree 100%. At a school 4A or smaller if your head football coach isn't your athletic director then good luck getting an experienced winning coach. Nobody wants to go to West Hardin to do head football and teach history half of the day. They would've had a hard enough time finding a quality guy anyway because of the money...or the fact that they're usually terrible.

No offense...but that's exactly how it starts. That's exactly how you end up with an MVP, two Co-OFF MVPs, two Co-DEF MVPs, 9 1st teamers and 11 2nd teamers in a district of fewer than 8 teams (example). Personally, it's refreshing to me to see it actually done right. 5 starters on a basketball team...5 kids on a 1ST TEAM anything basketball related. These 5 kids that were chosen were done so for a reason and that's just how it is. 1st Team basketball = 5 kids. 1st Team football = 11 kids. 1st Team baseball = 9 kids. Period. Well done, Beaumont Super Gold committee. Congratulations to all players involved and/or considered. -
Not if AD isn't attached to it. Hardin County schools pay garbage, to begin with... I'd be really surprised if they gave a $10K stipend for head football.

Not denying that at all... but there's a difference between reloading and replacing senior D1 commits with freshmen. -
It shouldn't be an option. Any school that fails to honor the district schedule given to them by UIL should have no choice but to do this ^.

Didn't Newton just lose several kids to division one football schools? If you think they'll be the same caliber team without them that they were with them... it might be a disappointing year for you. Local coach or not.
