  2. I attacked them by saying that schools like Sabine Pass don't require much effort to make the team?... Maybe you're either delusional or don't understand mathematics. If there are only 11 kids on a football team...everybody is a starter. 20 kids...there's a high liklihood of being a starter. 30 kids...a little tougher to be a starter. So on and so forth...catch my drift? So yes. When there are few kids on a team...especially a on a bad team...everybody is probably going to letter in football. I didn't call anyone a slacker, I just implied that they COULD BE at a school like Sabine Pass. If you have a problem with that truth..I don't care. Life's tough and sports is supposed to be one of the first lessons that there are winners and losers. There are starters and people that ride the bench. There is a varsity and there is a JV. Kids need to learn that when 900 people apply for a job...there will be 899 losers.
  3. Care so much about them that you're willing to let the majority have a serious risk for real injury and all a definite risk of embarrassment for the sake of a few (maybe) who pull the shoulder pads that care? The Little Giants was just a movie, bro. That's not real world. I made an argument a couple years ago on this site that I thought that all schools with an enrollment of less than 400 should either close or consolidate (or both).. I was attacked for that opinion of course. From most people on here. I have changed my mind somewhat but still feel that the idea remains justified. Kids no longer learn how to compete for anything, which can be detrimental when they get out of high school. Your statement is a good example of just what I'm saying. If a kid truly wants to play football and is willing to do what it takes to become a better athlete, compete for a spot, and be held accountable...then yes. They should get to experience the Friday night lights..as you put it. However...at schools like Sabine Pass all you have to do is show up..maybe not even that..and you can get you a letterman jacket. To me that's quite a disservice to most kids around the country who have to work their tails off and earn a spot on whatever football team they play for. Or any other activiy..even valedictorian/salutatorian.
  4. The schedule they were playing could possibly be the weakest schedule in all of Texas 11 man football. Even so..there are only so many private schools you can get in preseason to make an actual competitive game. Then you end up having to play another local school from the class just above you.. this year is was HD. HD aren't world beaters but they could've beaten Sabine Pass 100-0. Then comes district.. and even though there are other teams that are also sometimes very bad (Burkeville, Colmesneil,.) there are still teams like Evadale, Grapeland, Lovelady. Who know that they're only going to get a half to rack up as many yards/points as coach will let them. That.. is how bad players on bad teams get hurt. Seriously hurt. Sabine Pass has no reason to play football.
  5. I'm not trying to seem argumentative...but I'm count this as a half truth. Especially to what's implied (I think). I'll concede to the fact that they definitely have a best player and the kid you're referring to is probably him. But being the best player on that team and being an "All-District type player" in that district doesn't necessarily make him a beast. I would bet that most..if not not all..of those players are lucky to be playing at Sabine Pass or they probably wouldn't be getting those minutes. It's sad for the kid that he won't get to finish the season but honestly.. as a school they have zero reason to attempt to field a football team. I'm surprised they aren't getting a kid or more hurt every game.
  6. What you would probably get is 10 different 30 year old Athletic Directors. If you’re ok with that..persuade you board members and community to save 300-400k over the next 10 years.
  7. Is that worth having an incompetent AD during that decade? Knock 30-40k on the AD salary and you’ll never have an experienced or proven head coach ever again.
  8. Good. They have no reason to play football anyway. Other than to be a laughing stock and possibly get kids hurt. Sad news for the rest of the teams they would’ve played that were counting on that win.
  9. Just exactly how much are you implying that teacher salaries will increase by saving 30-40K on a head football coach? You realize that school districts employ a whole bunch of teachers, right? There’s no question that education is of the utmost importance..but a school’s athletic program is usually the heartbeat of a school. Extracurricular activities are the sole reason that a huge portion of students have a reason to be their best. That includes keeping their grades up. By saying that basically slapping the athletic department in the face so that the teachers can make a few hundred dollars (literally) extra per year is really how I see the problem with priorities in most area schools. This area.
  10. Awesome response. I generally don't type "lol" unless I actually lough out loud. Definitely laughed at this one.
  11. I know the numbers required. I’m thinking you missed the point..they (Sabine Pass) is and has been an embarrassment to the sport. Not sure if they’ve ever been competitive and maybe they should consider not playing football anymore while their enrollment remains in the 11 man range.
  12. There is no reason for Sabine Pass to continue playing 11 man football. As a school.
  13. I remember when I first became a member of this site how much of an advocate for turf fields I was. Even then. Also remember getting quite a bit of ridicule and backlash about the topic. I feel now the same way I felt then.. every school in the state that plays football should be doing everything they can to turf their field. Good luck to you robanadana. I hope it works out for you guys.

  15. Crosby vs Bye? Even though Bye has never given up a single point..I'm taking Crosby in a close one.
  16. You and I might be able to beat Kipp Sunnyside. You wanna be QB or receiver?... nah let’s just take turns.
  17. NW isn't near what they were last year. Very young. Hardin should roll in this one.
  18. A friend of mine showed me a couple of clips off of hudle of Livingston. I was able to make a pretty accurate assessment right away I think. It's not the coaches...
  19. Jeez...Livingston is turning into the Sabine Pass of 4A+ football. Or maybe they're already there.. Sorry SP people..
  20. I specifically remember that year 3 was gonna be the year. The year that we all got to see the difference in a bad coach and a great coach reflected by results. Playoffs by year 1 or 2, district championships and beyond by year 3. Or something like that. I remember the conversations.. Not trying to stir up anything but I have a pretty good memory still. I haven't forgotten that I don't anyway.. I don't think. Anyways. I said then and I say still it takes much more than a good coach. Have to have something to work with. That's why I always defend coaches and I'll defend this one when people start realizing that he won't live up to the stupid expectations they had a few years ago.
  21. Isn't this the year BH should win district...and start making a legitimate run? I wish I could find some old conversations after they hired TW. Like I said all along..can't win a horse race with a donkey. Don't care how good the trainer is. Also..maybe it's not the coach. I know it's only first game but just throwing that out in advance.
