HP has very athletic kids too. And size, and strength, and depth...and HP kids are probably very smart. Teachers are required to have a masters degree. If you think that doesn’t make a difference then you’re wrong. All irrelevant at this point. Congrats on winning maybe the best title game I’ve ever seen. I was very entertained.
-
If it’s not about players then the same coach should win the state championship every year. Only one thing changes from year to year...and that’s the roster.
-
So he could replicate athletes exactly like the ones he has?...at any other school? Meaning FBS caliber players...
-
It would appear so. Newton was on another level.
-
All 13 players scored against who? Because that doesn't mean they're deep...maybe they played a garbage team. Which happens all the time. How many kids score..or even play when they're in a close game..? The number of players that contribute in a close game determines how deep a team is. Not how many players score against a bad team.

Texas 10 Highest Paid HS Football Coaches

Are you serious? Yes...employees at some schools deserve more $ than employees at other schools. It is not only a lot more pressure and stress...but a lot heavier workload. If all teachers at all schools were paid exactly the same then there would be no teachers at huge schools or inner city schools. Those schools have to incentivize the job or else every teacher in the state would work at a tiny school and have class sizes of 10 rather than 30. -

So the Head football coach/AD at Katy should top out at 80,000?... And the Head football coach/AD at High Island should also top out at 80,000?...And a teacher at Allen High School should make the same as a teacher at Burkeville...And a principal..I think you get the point. You need to realize that some schools in this state have a student enrollment in the thousands and other schools have an enrollment of less than 100. Think about that for a second and please rethink what you said. -

This is not actually a real option. Assuming that that entire 155K would be used to hire teachers is assuming that there will be no AD/HFC. Because either way the school has budgeted for a head football coach. But that's an administrative position that a school (with athletics) cannot be without. So let's assume he should get paid what SeTx AD/HFCs get paid. I think most around here are in the 70-90 range...But higher end (success/experience) ADs even in this area are in the 90ish range. I think Scott Surratt has earned the right to be considered a high end football coach. So pay him what high-end coaches make...90K. That leaves 65K of what you're implying should be taken away to replace with teachers. Hate to tell you 65K will get you 1 and 1/2 experienced teachers or 2 teachers with zero experience. At a district the size of Carthage k-12...2 teachers isn't really going to make a difference. Probably not even 2 teachers. -

Maybe Center should be ranked #1 -
Hate to break it to you...but I could list dozens of schools in this area alone that he could NOT win a title at. Ever. No matter how long he was there. And I know that winning titles is not about how many one sends to college...but the fact that he has kids get sent to big time football programs has more to do with their success than just good coaching. A coach CAN NOT turn a small, slow, and weak kid into a D1 player. Sometimes it's not physically possible. But on the contrary...a potential D1 athlete will turn an average coach into a great coach. I'm not by any means saying that this is what happened...but that's the way it happens more often than not.
-
There is no denying. My point is simply this...he might go to High Island and turn a 5.5 second 40 into a 5.0 second 40... but a 5.0 second 40 is still not fast enough. And he may turn a 140lb bench press into a 180lb bench press...but that's still weak. So yeah he might make them better given enough time and community support, but there will be no state championships.

I agree with this and believe that it's exactly the same as it is with Saban. Maybe no as far as salary compared to the money generated...but that's irrelevant. Carthage is paying Surratt not only what they think he's worth but also paying him what it will take to keep him employed at Carthage ISD. Maybe he is overpaid according to some but Carthage knows he's worth it. State Championships cost money... if Carthage thinks they need to pay that in order to keep in as HFC then they have every right to. It was the Sup's decision, approved by the board, that was elected by the people of Carthage. If they want different they can change it. -
No...similar statements were made regarding Carthage having never seen speed like what Silsbee had. While that may be true...it didn’t matter. And it won’t matter this time either. Newton’s only shot will be playing mistake free. Speed alone will not win it this time.
-
Similar statements were made prior to the Carthage/Silsbee game. Just sayin..

I just saw the craziest thing on TV. On Fox Sports Southwest they showed the 2008 5Ad1 state title game. Allen vs Fort Bend Hightower. The game was in Houston...and Allen won. Personally I’m still trying to figure out how it happened. There was obviously “Home field advantage” all over the game. I know...it’s crazy.
-
Is that what’s happening out in BC? And just to be fair...you’re implying that the previous coaching staff didn’t lift weights or have an offseason program. I’m willing to bet that’s not true. Their new coach may have a DIFFERENT program but that doesn’t mean it’s better or worse. Time will tell.

A poor-decent coach can win with superior talent. A great coach can NOT win with zero talent. I don't care what anyone says. The reason that the same coaches don't have the same results on a yearly basis is that the players change. On their team and the teams they play. I've always said that some coaches are better than others..and some coaches can do more with players than other coaches can. But EVERY single coach will only be as good as his/her team allows them to be. Back to an earlier point.. Coach T would not have any state championship rings if he were at another school other than WOS. Ask Barbers Hill if it's strictly coaching that wins games.

Do you think that Nick Saban should make the same salary as the Dean at the University of Alabama? -

Gotcha. And yeah I was talking about all of SeTx when I said "this area". Which includes the Greater Houston schools...which (now that I look into it) pay quite a bit more than the Beaumont area... My biggest problem is that school districts cap a teacher's salary after a certain number of years. I think if a teacher is still a good enough teacher to teach that long then their salary should increase even after a certain number of years. Maybe have contracts reviewed each year at a certain point...but don't stop the pay increase. That's my opinion on that. -

Umm... I listed several bigger schools that start out over 50K. Do you know how many individual schools fall under Houston, Goose Creek, Barbers Hill, Humble, Katy, Dayton...ISDs? And I just stopped after those. ..yeah I think Dayton is considered this area. Houston and surrounding areas qualify as Southeast Texas more than San Augustine, Jasper, and Newton... -

Maybe those teachers need to get out of the Beaumont area. -

There are a lot of school districts in the area that pay quite a bit more than that. And I'm not talking about huge schools. Even though the bigger schools start teachers at over 50K for no experience...increasing annually. Tough as a single home income but if in a working married couple that isn't bad at all. -
Could Coach Thompson go to High Island with his entire staff for 5 years and turn one of their 7th graders into an Alabama signee?
