  1. I said most bigger schools. But I also said that the smaller schools able to do it can keep people from scoring. That applies to all teams that are run oriented. Katy's pretty decent on defense too...
  2. A couple rules of thought on this one. If you're talking smaller schools (3A and down) then a solid running attack may be enough to get the job done if you have a defense that doesn't give up points. I personally think that a pound and ground attack is better if you're a smaller school. Most bigger schools simply have too much speed on offense and you won't be able to keep up in an "outscore" situation. There are still teams in the smaller school ranks that win titles with slot-t type offenses. There aren't many teams able to do it but the good ones still get championships even if they mostly run. But here's the problem...if you have a run-heavy offense and fall a couple scores behind then you'll have pretty much no chance of catching up. That's why most run teams don't make it deep. When you see a team that is talented enough to score quick and often then your only option is to play completely mistake free and score every possession. Just too tough to do that. If we're talking about Woodville right now then I don't think they make it past round 3 because of this exact conversation. They'll see someone with enough up front defensively to offset that running attack and enough on offense to get to far ahead for them to catch up.
  3. Maybe you should coach. I mean...if you’re such an expert you could have those kids whipped into winning shape in no time.
  4. So quick to jump on the "blame the coach" bandwagon. smh..
  5. I was told by a friend of a friend that Liberty got their offense from WV. Coldspring couldn't stop Liberty...and they won't stop WV either. Woodville takes this one with not much issue.
  6. Well they dropped HJ and Centerville to pick up Warren and...kipp sunny side or something.. might as well have been JV teams. I’ll give you this...probably picked up the JV team to replace the HD game that canceled. And there isn’t much choice mid season. But Warren and that Kipp school couldn’t beat the jv team Hardin picked up. So yeah...I find it relatively hilarious as well. Add a new coach and a Senior QB (best player) and the hornets still have just 1 win vs the teams that were on the previous schedule. So far. But I doubt they beat Hempstead.
  7. Lol. They better hope UIL doesn’t stick them in a big district. Looking at all the numbers I don’t see how it can be avoided. We’ll see
  8. That dang district schedule...if there wasn’t some kind of rule about changing district games on the schedule that might be a good idea.
  9. 1. Beaumont West Brook 2. Dayton 3. Kingwood Park 4. New Caney 5. Vidor 6. Beaumont Central 7. Port Neches-Groves 8. Nederland 9. Navasota 10. Cleveland 11. Silsbee 12. Jasper 13. Madisonville 14. Hardin-Jefferson 15. Liberty 16. Coldspring-Oakhurst 17. Kirbyville 18. Buna 19. Anahuac 20. East Chambers 21. Newton 22. San Augustine 23. Deweyville 24. Iola 25. Leverett's Chapel
  10. At that pace it would've been 48-0... Yep. Way better than 60-0.
  11. I think this game has the potential to be relatively close...or the potential to be a massacre. From what I understand Liberty has an issue hanging on to the ball. If they lose some fumbles this could get ugly. However, if they limit those kinds of mistakes I think it could be a decent game. If not then it could be a 30-40 point game. This game is interesting. I think WOS still takes it but there may be some surprised at how good of a game it might be. We'll see.
  12. I think scheduling teams you can beat is absolutely important. You have to build confidence. A coach has to be able to say “my stuff works” and then prove it thru winning. Nobody cares who you beat. Their schedule last year was better for preparation for district. How’d that work out? And just to be clear. You saw them play growing up?.. Just WHO exactly did you see them play? I haven’t the slightest idea but I’m willing to bet these boys didn’t play a single team in Hardin’s district right now in youth sports. Youth sports is normally for neighboring towns if there aren’t enough kids to keep it “in city”. Which means you have no basis for comparison with the teams they’re playing now. Not to mention the fact that quite a bit changes between “growing up” and by the time they’re in high school. Ridiculous statement. By the way I said “new” qb because their qb didn’t play a single game last yr. And he is “one of the best players on the team”... as you put it.
  13. Lol. Look...the issue is and has always been the fact that Hardin is just out gunned. I think Haynes is definitely a good football coach. And the best thing he did was gutting the preseason schedule. But adding a new QB and different game plan will only get you so far. I’m not sure what everyone expected but you still have a bunch of kids on that team that went 0-10 last year. So again...it’s the kids. Want long term success? It starts with consistency. Leave the coaches alone and consistency will lead to better things. or...jump back on the “time for a new coach” carrousel and continue with your “1 out of 10-15 years good” routine. Either way I don’t care.
  14. I think he was being sarcastic. But you’re right...that would be the mindset of a typical Hardin fan.
  15. All good...I honestly didn't think anything of it. Side note.. good thing about rough mornings is most of the time you only have one direction to go
  16. My thread not good enough to post the snapshot numbers on? lol.
  17. True. But there are quite a few teams that do a lot of traveling now...even with smaller districts across the state. It's really hard to justify sending 4 teams to the playoffs in a 5 team district. As much as I wish it would go back to "top 3 get in" I know that it won't. Playoff games mean money...so 4 teams getting in is here to stay. But hopefully there has been enough thought put into it and they have gotten enough hearsay to admit that a 5 team district has to be done away with. Then again I'm not surprised at anything. We can all speculate what we want but UIL is gonna be UIL. No telling.
