  1. The problem is the refusal of realizing that a group of kids just may not be as good as originally thought...so fingers start being pointed.
  2. I'm willing to bet that there's more to this than being said. Is it all "mandatory" practice time? When I was in school several of us went to the school and worked out an hour before school. Coaches were there and helped but it wasn't a required time to be there. Same thing went for after school. If we stayed after on our own time then it didn't count against the UIL 8 hour limit. There's no way this coaching staff is forcing players to attend a scheduled practice for 4 hours per day. They know the rules. Coaches may figure out ways to get extra time here and there but not to this extreme. I don't know the situation but I'm betting there's more to it.
  3. I didn’t mean it would be beneficial to actually play it. I meant it would do more for preparing...if that’s what they want. I personally think it wouldn’t actually be smart. I’ve seen schools schedule games for “preparation” and schools schedule games for “wins”. In the end I don’t think it matters about preparing. Winning does as much or more than preparation. So long as they aren’t blowout wins. its better to have your kids play competitively for 2 or 3 quarters then let them rest and backups get experience. In my opinion that’s better than having your starters endure a dogfight for an entire game in which they may or may not win.
  4. Maybe the kids aren't as good as you think they are. Or maybe the defense is doing good enough...I'm pretty sure 5-0 would be fine for anybody up to this point of the season.
  5. As sad as it sounds.. Newton vs WOS would be more beneficial to each other (as far as game preparation) than most of the other schools the 2 of them usually play pre-season. And I mean sad that WOS may have to play a 3A school to get a competitive game.
  6. Maybe Newton should have just kneeled 3 times and punted after...I don’t know. What score should they have stopped at? 16-8? Would that ensure nobody’s feelings got hurt? Telling or expecting backup players to not play hard because of the score is asinine.
  7. I thought that there used to be a few different options for schools to count their enrollment. But now it’s current 8-12 enrollment as of the snapshot day. I don’t know the answer. But yes counting 9-11 seems like a viable option to me. I definitely think that counting an entire class of kids that will be gone next year is dumb. Especially when that count determines who the school will compete with...according to enrollment.
  8. Nimrod? Lol. That’s a typical response of someone that refuses to admit they’re wrong. Nobody is saying that? “ My complaint is 14 flags vs 3 flags.” Am I reading or interpreting that wrong?
  9. I think it’s hilarious when people assume that both teams in a particular game should have a similar number of penalties. I know there are missed calls in every game, on every level, and in every sport. But saying that because one team had a lot of penalties and the other had a few somehow shows that it isn’t fair....well...that’s kind of dumb. ”we had 10 holding calls so they should have 10 as well.” Yeah. That’s stupid
  10. That’s more true than you know. I honestly think the outcome of a game is about 20% because of coaching. Or less. The rest is purely based on the talent of your team or the talent of the other team. Sorry. Pardon the bluntness but it has pretty much everything to do with the kids.
  11. If the refs aren’t blamed...or if the coaches aren’t blamed...then the blame would fall on the kids. No possible way it could be the kids fault. That’s crazy talk. So to answer the original question. No.
  12. I can see where it would cause an issue in districts with several middle schools that may or may not be feeder schools. But the majority of 4A and down schools with one junior high or at worst a couple...the count should reflect the incoming high school enrollment.
  13. The crazy thing is the way they do the count..meaing that it's the numbers as they are right now (9-12). Why in the world would this year's seniors have anything to do with UIL competition NEXT year and the year after. At least if they're going to do the counts based on a snapshot enrollment count 8th-11th grades. That is next year's high school enrollment.
  14. Every game Newton plays will be a massacre until pretty deep in the playoffs. They'll still win just won't be as one sided...I'm pretty confident in saying Newton may have a shot at it this year.
  15. The numbers are about to be submitted. Where's everyone sitting? Any possible classification changes?
  16. No question. But rest assured... most if not all of PNG freshmen are probably on the freshman team. And ANYone else that the coaching staff thinks that can be used in a varsity game is probably on varsity. The kids that don't fit into one of those categories probably make up the JV. That's what I'm betting. And even if Hardin has a lot of varsity kids that would be on PNG JV...they still have some 17-18 year olds mixed in. 18 year olds are usually just physically better than 16 year olds. That couple of years makes a difference.
  17. I could be wrong.. but I'm thinking that all freshmen are on the freshman team. All kids 10-12 that are "chosen" are on varsity. JV usually consists of non freshmen and 10-11th graders not good enough to be on varsity. I don't know about this whole 500+ kids to choose from you're talking about. Just sayin
  18. Too much emphasis placed on winning.. (thanks to fans). Can't blame a coach for not scheduling a game they may not win if they can help it.
  19. One difference between NCAA and Pro is that a lot of NCAA teams don't have a salary cap.
  20. Hardin's new district didn't win a single playoff game vs Hardin's old district last year. So in that regard Hardin came out better. And their new district seems to have gotten a little weaker from top to bottom. Still doesn't mean Hardin will win any district games. And no...they won't compete with EC or Anahuac. I'm sure Coach Haynes scheduled this game in hopes of getting another win since the HD game cancelled. Going 4-6 and not making playoffs will still make him look like a hero...even tho the schedule had to be butchered to do so. Do what you gotta do I guess. In the end the mob (fans/parents) only cares about Ws anyway.
