You realize that I’m aware it’s the same coach, right? And the only reason I keep asking serves as a reminder that countless “sideline coaches” were calling for his termination… just a season ago. That’s why. My pettiness has no bounds. Few things are more satisfying to me in sports. Coincidentally.. it will take several seasons for me to forget how the coaching staff was treated last year.

The previous AD at Palestine made $136,588. Maybe it was better to lose where he'd at least get paid. I don't know what Lumberton pays their AD.. but they aren't burning the world down in football either.

I would think that Anahuac should win.. However, Hardin has faired surprisingly better than I would've thought. If I had to put money I'd go with Anahuac but I'm predicting Hardin to give them more than they want.

The first of many games where Tarkington administration will question whether or not the added high school enrollment was really worth it.

It appears that they may do better than normal in this trash can of a district.. but trust me.. they lost to Warren. They’re not a good team.

I would assume that many of the Bobcats of old that gave those beatdowns you speak of don't even have kids on the team. The high school enrollment tells me that a large percentage of HD alum have jumped ship. Which is all that matters in football. Numbers mean everything.. and HD is about dried up. The all-time record will change directions pretty quickly unless HD does something that can rebuild the school population.

There have probably been some great games in this series in the past.. that involved some talented players. Nobody can deny that. But those days are seemingly gone. "Good games" between these two schools nowadays will just mean they happen to be equally matched. Doesn't necessarily make it a good game.

Bringing up all-time matchup or past record will get you absolutely dragged on here. HD is a fraction of a fraction of what they once were.. and very likely never returning. Enjoy the past successes, and root for your team and/or kids for sure, but it's completely irrelevant when talking about the "good old days". Zero kids on the team were even born when HD won its last football playoff game.

I'm surprised that they still have 11 in the high school to suit up.. So by that regard, you're 100% correct.

Franklin needs a game? Sounds like an inner squad scrimmage in Kountze, Tx before that happens.

I don't care how many deep runs Jasper makes in football... or how the other sports do. Jasper has 7 years to win it all starting last year or they need a new head football coach. Not my words..

That conversation shifted gears. As far as parents moving their kids to schools that best suit their interests.. that's been happening since long before the talk of vouchers. It can't be stopped. I'm on the fence. I see the arguments for and against.. but I think that maybe a parent's school tax dollars should go to the school of their choosing. Schools should do better job implementing programs and others that A) keep kids there.. B)attract from outside. Competition is good.. why shouldn't schools have to compete?

At small schools it's difficult to justify paying what it takes to attract a quality football coach without attaching AD to the job. Not only monetarily.. but NOBODY that's any good will go somewhere to be the head football coach while having other duties (classes, etc.). Also, at a small school it's pretty much impossible to justify paying someone to be athletic director only as an administrative salary. Double edged sword. I am personally a fan of AD only positions.. but understand completely why it's not normally seen in smaller schools. Schools the size of Jasper (4A) could probably get away with it. But that deep, "the way it's always been done".. mentality has a stranglehold on a lot of places.
