Foreman a finalist for a head coaching job
oldschool2 replied to dBerrySports's topic in High School Football
I'd put good money on it that just about every head coach in Texas has inquired about other jobs more often than not. The only reason that a head coach wouldn't leave for a higher paying job is if they thought they were going to be really successful. And when they are really successful that's when they are probably looking the hardest. It's awful funny how a coach wins a state championship and then all of the sudden takes a job at a higher classification probably for quite a bit more money. -
Foreman a finalist for a head coaching job

Well with as many people as I know in education I can tell you that their retirement is based on an average of their highest salaried years. So raising that salary average ...which affects the 30 years after they coach... is more important than the 30 years they spend coaching. My opinion anyway. It's not a coincidence that so many coaches go into administration. $$ -

$$ Same reason every head coach goes anywhere. And also the same reason that ALL head coaches are always looking. Can't fault a guy for bettering himself financially. -
UCLA Commit LaMelo Ball Scores 92 Pts
oldschool2 replied to Hagar's topic in High School Boys Basketball
But...Did they win? No, but seriously. It's pretty embarrassing to have an opposing player hang 92 on you. Whether you're the coach or a player is irrelevant to me. By the way, I hope that kid doesn't think it'll be that easy to score in the NCAA. Good grief... -
I wouldn't say that Evadale doesn't have a good team, but yes. The district is terrible.

True. The only difference with me is that I normally don't gripe about it because I know that that's the reason they won't change it. But every year I participate anyway. Like a dumb sheep. But I doubt that my little group of friends will make much difference by boycotting it one year. If it were ever to happen on a mass scale I'd be all in tho. I personally think it's stupid to have the most televised sporting events on a day before most of the country has to wake up for work. But like I said...we all watch anyway.

You're right I should have said that. I didn't mean ALL Silsbee fans. -
We (consumers) are 100% in control of the product that's given. I say to people I know all of the time.. "Don't like the National Championship Game being on a Monday? Don't watch it. Don't like the Super Bowl being the day before a work day? Don't watch it." As long as people are providing ratings, there is no reason to change it. Don't like the quality of something you paid for? Don't buy it again. We ,the consumer, have more power than people think.

Because Silsbee is one of SETX's babies. It seems to me that some are truly more concerned with a Silsbee state championship than this kid possibly learning maybe one of the most valuable of lessons that can be learned. Despite what people say. If that weren't true then you wouldn't even see words like "unfair" or "too harsh". I know that the KID made a huge mistake that he would probably undo in a heartbeat. But even things that we don't mean to do and/or regret doing we have to be held accountable for. Honestly, as a parent, my first thoughts were "What might I do if this were my kid?" Either kid. If my kid did something like this to another kid nobody would have to worry about how many games he/she was suspended...because I wouldn't allow any more games to be played that season. And I can promise you that wouldn't be the end of it. I understand "heat of the battle" as well as anyone. I've tied up with teammates and opponents plenty of times during my playing years. True competitors will get upset in certain competitive situations. But blatantly attacking someone that isn't looking and defenseless is something else. If my kid were the one who got attacked: I would think that a "rest of season" suspension was fair. If it were anything less...or if it were changed because powers that be thought is was "too harsh", then I couldn't promise that I wouldn't file assault charges. You're talking about an athlete of D1 caliber attacking another high school kid without them knowing it was coming. Potentially dangerous. So like I've said already...you Silsbee fans need to be thankful the punishment wasn't worse. It doesn't look like it's life altering (in the big scheme of things) for him. So accept it, and shift your focus to playing the remainder of the 16-17 season without him. -

Just my 2 cents.. It's not the UIL's business to step in and decide how a school district carries out something in their athletic policy. Just saying. -

Honestly, at this point, it matters ZERO what anyone thinks of the punishment. It is what it is. Focus better shift to how Silsbee will handle playing without the kid. And I love when people say things like "we'll be ok"... "business as usual"... Easy to say. But, if anyone thinks that this won't change things then they are foolish. -

Voice of reason. Finally. Like I said earlier...it could have ben avoided so I don't care what the punishment is. If I were the coach the season would be over for him. But as stated earlier...not solely up to the coach. And even if suspended 5 games...not sure how much playing time I would want a kid to have who's missed 5 games because of a bad decision. My opinion is that I would stick with the kids that had won playoff games up to that point. Assuming they're still playing when/if his suspension was over. That's just me. -

No matter what the punishment was it wasn't too much. Bottom line...the punishment could've been avoided altogether. Don't get in trouble and there are zero negative consequences. Simple concept. -
Truth.

Yes. The numbers are staggering. And they're fairly similar will all sports. I read one time that the chances of getting an athletic scholarship are the highest in women's golf. Which is still less than a 2% chance. I always use basketball as an example (ex college player). Not only the vast numbers of high school seniors..but also every kid that plays at at junior college and every 18/19/20 year old that plays overseas that would love to play college ball in the states. Number of D1 schollies given every year...about 4000. And like those numbers suggest it is quite a feat. I think there's about a 3% chance of a high school athlete making a college roster. Of all of those college athletes there's about a 1% chance of turning pro. I really wish people would be honest with their kids about it. If a kid wants to know they should just ask me. "Think I could play college ball?" What's your GPA? "What's that?" Nope. How tall is your daddy? "5.." Nope. What's your 40 time? "5.." Nope. What's your vertical leap? "Twenty..." Nope.

Best player or players off every team in SETX
oldschool2 replied to Mamba's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Probably the best guard in Sabine Pass for sure. -
And her husband was the girl's basketball COY also. I believe. Definitely, something to be proud of.
-
Always good to see kids getting an education. No matter the reason.
-
It had nothing to do with you...or the comment you made referring to Silsbee. WOSgrad had been butthurt and mad at me since football season because I said something one time about his football team that indicated that they weren't the best team in the universe. He's been finding excuses to try to make me look bad ever since. Watch...he'll reply to this thinking that I'm actually affected by it. No worries.

Grapeland or Tenaha -
You remind me of my oldest granddaughter. No matter what I tell her, no matter how plainly I say it...she still thinks she's right. Kids. smh...
-
Definitely not offended. You must not know me very well if you think in the slightest that you could offend me. I'm just enough of an adult to know that there should be a difference in the way certain people comment on group forums. And in a situation where a person can be labeled as "Admin", without pay, on a high school sports forum that literally doesn't matter outside of one tiny geographic area of this state...even under those circumstances, you sir are a disgrace.
-
The fact that you have SETXsports Director/Manager underneath your username is a joke. The way you talk to the members of this site when you don't agree with their opinion speaks volumes. AAW should be proud of having you labeled "Admin". Just saying.
-
I understand that you're in love with the idea of making me look bad...but you may want to re-read the threads from top to bottom. I didn't say anything about Silsbee....I quoted what someone else said. Nice try, though.

Let's just agree to disagree. They haven't even won it in their own classification yet.
