  1. I heard this has something to do with baseball. Not exactly sure.
  2. Yep. Go ahead and add Jasper to the list of schools that will get what they deserve.
  3. Well, Big Sandy didn't win their district. But like you said...lost literally everybody. And yes your last statement it the point I try to make all of the time. Especially when people downplay someone's ability to coach. The amount of talent you have is more important than the ability to coach.
  4. I'm not saying they aren't good coaches. But, last year it was pretty widely accepted that Kevin Foster (Big Sandy) was the best coach in the area. It's funny how much better/worse of a coach someone is based on talent. Just curious...is Coach Foster a worse coach this year than he was last? Again...just curious.
  5. Well I'll admit that the article makes it seem as though there won't be any changes. I guess the old saying rings true. Only believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear.
  6. Well, he would be even if reassigned. Hence the work: REassigned. But that's the point. I doubt he's ok with not doing the job he was hired to do. I hope he resigns last minute, takes all his coaches with him, and puts them in a bind.
  7. Word I got is that this has something to do with baseball. I heard that the Jasper people are pretty crazy when it comes to their baseball.
  8. Possibly looking for a leg to stand on to ask for more money. "I could take this other job, but a raise would convince me to stay." Or maybe just exploring options. Or maybe just practicing interviewing...for when he gets thrown under the bus by his current school district. Don't act like Beaumont ISD would've kept him around for another 20 years. And I've said already...there isn't a coach in the profession that isn't exploring better options. If you think that the coach at Bridge City isn't doing the same thing then you're being naive.
  9. This thread should be changed to "Top 5 things fans SCREAM that drive ME crazy. Or anyone else that actually knows basketball. This one that you mentioned ^ is far and away one of the biggest reasons I can't stand going to high school basketball games. When I hear/see someone yell "OVER THE BACK!" I literally want to walk up to them and slap them in the face. Yes...no such call. It's either a push, or nothing. I can't stand that people don't realize when position isn't established in rebounding then it is literally a jump ball. And someone can legally jump higher than or over another player and grab a rebound as long as contact isn't made. My biggest pet peeve for sure. Another one for me is when a referee calls traveling on a kid that does a Euro step. Oh.. and almost forgot. "FOLLOW YOUR SHOT!" Yeah that one drives me crazy too. 1st...what chance do you think a kid has of making a jumpshot if they literally sprint to the rim after release?.. 2nd...If you suck so bad at shooting that you know you need to run to the rim to get the rebound... Then you don't need to be shooting. Sorry not sorry.
  10. I have several good friends in the coaching world. Sometimes coaches apply places and interview to keep their name in circulation just in case a potential life changing job opportunity comes open. Or to simply keep practiced in their interview skills. If you think that you're going to hire a coach that's going to spend their career at your school, then I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed. Those days are gone. They know that their career is literally on the line every single year depending on parents, school boards, administrators.... Coaches are looking out for the best interest of themselves and their family...who are you to claim that they shouldn't? You really think that the head coach at your school isn't looking at that job board? I'm not saying he wants to leave, but I'd bet however many dollars you have that he would at least send a resume if he saw the right job open up. "Admin shouldn't support guys who have one foot out the door"... give me a break.
  11. I don't know of anyone either.
  12. I'd put good money on it that just about every head coach in Texas has inquired about other jobs more often than not. The only reason that a head coach wouldn't leave for a higher paying job is if they thought they were going to be really successful. And when they are really successful that's when they are probably looking the hardest. It's awful funny how a coach wins a state championship and then all of the sudden takes a job at a higher classification probably for quite a bit more money.
  13. Well with as many people as I know in education I can tell you that their retirement is based on an average of their highest salaried years. So raising that salary average ...which affects the 30 years after they coach... is more important than the 30 years they spend coaching. My opinion anyway. It's not a coincidence that so many coaches go into administration. $$
  14. $$ Same reason every head coach goes anywhere. And also the same reason that ALL head coaches are always looking. Can't fault a guy for bettering himself financially.
  15. But...Did they win? No, but seriously. It's pretty embarrassing to have an opposing player hang 92 on you. Whether you're the coach or a player is irrelevant to me. By the way, I hope that kid doesn't think it'll be that easy to score in the NCAA. Good grief...
  16. I wouldn't say that Evadale doesn't have a good team, but yes. The district is terrible.
  17. True. The only difference with me is that I normally don't gripe about it because I know that that's the reason they won't change it. But every year I participate anyway. Like a dumb sheep. But I doubt that my little group of friends will make much difference by boycotting it one year. If it were ever to happen on a mass scale I'd be all in tho. I personally think it's stupid to have the most televised sporting events on a day before most of the country has to wake up for work. But like I said...we all watch anyway.
  18. You're right I should have said that. I didn't mean ALL Silsbee fans.
  19. We (consumers) are 100% in control of the product that's given. I say to people I know all of the time.. "Don't like the National Championship Game being on a Monday? Don't watch it. Don't like the Super Bowl being the day before a work day? Don't watch it." As long as people are providing ratings, there is no reason to change it. Don't like the quality of something you paid for? Don't buy it again. We ,the consumer, have more power than people think.
  20. Because Silsbee is one of SETX's babies. It seems to me that some are truly more concerned with a Silsbee state championship than this kid possibly learning maybe one of the most valuable of lessons that can be learned. Despite what people say. If that weren't true then you wouldn't even see words like "unfair" or "too harsh". I know that the KID made a huge mistake that he would probably undo in a heartbeat. But even things that we don't mean to do and/or regret doing we have to be held accountable for. Honestly, as a parent, my first thoughts were "What might I do if this were my kid?" Either kid. If my kid did something like this to another kid nobody would have to worry about how many games he/she was suspended...because I wouldn't allow any more games to be played that season. And I can promise you that wouldn't be the end of it. I understand "heat of the battle" as well as anyone. I've tied up with teammates and opponents plenty of times during my playing years. True competitors will get upset in certain competitive situations. But blatantly attacking someone that isn't looking and defenseless is something else. If my kid were the one who got attacked: I would think that a "rest of season" suspension was fair. If it were anything less...or if it were changed because powers that be thought is was "too harsh", then I couldn't promise that I wouldn't file assault charges. You're talking about an athlete of D1 caliber attacking another high school kid without them knowing it was coming. Potentially dangerous. So like I've said already...you Silsbee fans need to be thankful the punishment wasn't worse. It doesn't look like it's life altering (in the big scheme of things) for him. So accept it, and shift your focus to playing the remainder of the 16-17 season without him.
