SE Texas Highest Paid Coaches
oldschool2 replied to Peppermint Patty's topic in High School Football
Well, you would think. 4 years of high school ball. Football, basketball, and baseball. Even kept things in my locker all through summer. Then 4 years of college ball....never once had a single thing taken out of my locker. Of course, I had the locker locked at all times... I don't know. Call me old fashioned I guess. -
Prayers sent. RIP

Just out of curiosity...what can be done? Give the kids a means to keep their belongings safe. Keep the locker room locked when nobody is dressing. If it's still a problem...then it's a police matter. How do you know he wasn't told that by the administration? I'm not saying he was...I don't have a clue. But the locker room was obviously not kept locked up...because I read a comment on here saying the camera did indeed catch the thief going into the locker room. -

It was sarcasm. Because you implied that he wouldn't be going through the crap he is now if he were at Vidor instead of Westbrook. I'm simply pointing out that...no, he'd be going through this at ANY school. Because putting a video camera in or around a locker room is pretty high up there on the list of things that may get you fired. -

They allow coaches to put video cameras in locker rooms in Vidor? -

I don't suppose you've been reading my posts on the subject. Did I say locks would prevent something from being stolen? No, I did not. I just said that providing a lock is the extent of the coach's responsibility on this matter. -

I don't guess you understand what I'm saying. I'M NOT DEFENDING THE THIEF. I'm just saying that the coach's ONLY responsibility is to provide players with a way to keep their belongings safe. If he does...and they don't do that...then they are NOT preventing their things from being stolen. Therefore should not be surprised...or upset...if their things are stolen. No, it doesn't make it ok. Yes, the thief should suffer the full extent of the rules/law if caught. But it is not the coach's job to catch the thief. Just to make an attempt to prevent things from being stolen. If a kid tells me they had something stolen out of their locker the first thing I'm asking is "Was your locker locked? If not...what am I expected to do? Put up a camera and maybe get fired or arrested because players didn't prevent things from being stolen...?" The answer is no. -

But you kind of proved my point. If you wouldn't leave your house and car unlocked... why would you think it's ok for kids to leave lockers unlocked? I don't even know the situation. I'm just saying give the kids a locker and a lock. Beyond that, nothing else is necessary. Unless you want to risk losing your job. -

I keep my doors locked on my house every time I leave. And I have security cameras facing every entrance. And I have insurance. And I have a 600 pound fireproof, floodproof gun safe where I keep my valuables. Does that mean it's impossible for someone to break into my house and steal something? Of course not. But precautions were taken. If a coach is using precautions (lockers with locks)... then that's all they are required to do. Of course, I'm not placing blame on the kids... but if they weren't keeping their stuff locked up, then they weren't using proper prevention. Do you seriously leave your house unlocked? Better yet...would you drive to the mall in Beaumont, leave your car running with the door open, and go into the mall for several hours? -

Sounds like a simple solution to me. Or...simple prevention. Issue every kid in the athletic program a lock and a locker. If they don't put their stuff in their locker...then it's on them if things are stolen. If they don't use the lock to keep their stuff secure...then it's on them if things are stolen. If locks are being cut and lockers being broken into, let the police handle it. Coaches are being paid to play detective. Anyone that puts a video camera in or near a locker room or bathroom is asking to be fired. Maybe arrested. Sorry...but that's the truth. -

What happened to just giving kids locks for their lockers? -

Football isn't even the first thing that pops into my mind when someone says Silsbee athletics. Isn't their basketball team making state tournament appearances relatively often?

He would go to the league for certain if he were 6'10.

I applaud you. I can only imagine how tough of a job it must be. Which is why I always come to the defense of coaches the way I do. I have a lot of friends and family that were/are in education.

I'm not saying you were knocking anyone. I'm just saying that competition, does in fact, matter...especially in this case. Even if HJ was missing a few players or however many...WOS is not great even with their entire varsity roster. Last year they had a state championship football team and were sub-par (at the very best) in basketball. With the same kids. So no. It's not as impressive as the score may indicate. Even with missing players..a school like HJ, with probably several straight basketball kids, and as much tradition as most schools anywhere...ringing up 100 on a team that isn't very good to begin with and has 90% of their kids missing on top of that...isn't very impressive. Not a knock on anyone. It just is what it is. -
No doubt. Unfortunately, there are a lot of smaller schools that fit into this category. Sideline coaches alway know more...just ask them. I really have a hard time justifying why anyone would want to coach for a living. There are very few schools where you would run into issues like this.

I'm not saying it was a bad one to put on the schedule...but after realizing the football team was again involved in a deep run...might not have been necessary. Unless you just want a win on the record...or give a bunch of younger kids a chance to get some court time. I don't know...just me. -
I actually went to Lamar's home opener. I have no idea why...Actually, I was going to watch the BH/PNG football game. When I got there I realized Lamar's bball team was playing too, so I decided to watch the first half of the bball game, catch the second half of the football game. When I walked out of the Montagne Center I realized I didn't want to fight traffic or the crowd. Plus I was starving. So I just left. I know...I missed a good ending. Don't remind me. I said all that to say this.. Weisbrod is Lamar's best player. I knew that particular game was going to be a massacre but I was a little worried about his size (in future games). 6'6 is a little small to be playing in the paint as much as he does. But he's a really smart player. I could tell immediately that he was a very skilled player around the rim.

Nope...it does matter who the opponent is. I know they were missing a couple guys too, but WOS was probably missing almost the entire team to football. Not only that...they probably aren't real solid WITH their varsity kids from football. A varsity team ringing up over 100 on basically a JV team is expected. This game shouldn't have been played. -
They should save the money and let their school board members take turns being head coach. They could rotate weeks.

Highest paid high school coaches in Houston area

So it's barely higher...pretty much the same...for 1st year teachers. Either way. That could potentially be a decent living for an educator. Especially if they have a working spouse that makes decent money. I guess it all depends on location. -

Maybe they were talking about new teachers. He was pretty certain about Goose Creek paying more. Like I said...maybe newer educators. I haven't looked it up. -

Not even the highest in the area. I'm pretty sure Goose Creek pays more for teachers. That's what I was told anyway.
