You (and several others) are failing to realize that a better team may take more advantage of those numbers. And that it shows that even the mighty WOS football team can be capable of giving up yards.
-
Easily = 271 yards of offense. 37 minutes of possession time. Very few turnovers. Notice I didn't say they scored easily...I said they moved the ball easily. To move the ball using an offense that was only practiced a week or two at the most.. I'd say that counts as easily.

Those fans up there aren't near as fun to mess with.

Know what JH games mean? Well...pretty much nothing.

2 things: 1. Didn't he hire the OC from Jasper last yr? Didn't they go to round 3 or 4 with this OC calling the plays? Plus..pretty sure that OC has been coaching for a pretty good while. Darryl Barbay would not let a rookie call the plays for 1 of his teams. 2. Sometimes people leave a job when they know they don't have a choice. He lost complete support...and that doesn't leave any choice. Like I said above...I have a lot of contacts in the coaching community. I know more about this than you think.

The word exposed was definitely taken out of context. Point is.. A team with size and some decent backs (Liberty) gave WOS a lot of trouble on the defensive side. That is a certainty. Wasn't enough to overcome...which is also a certainty. But there may very well be a team that is good enough to do just that. I definitely left out a couple. But those more so than others because they are the pride of SETX football. So those fans really hate it.

Bellville vs Shepherd District Championship

BV takes this one. -
Lot of sarcasm in what I said there. Fact is...I'm at all surprised at the amount of backlash I'm receiving for stating something that actually happened. (60 plays for 270 yds in 37 mins of game time). That isn't hearsay...those numbers actually happened. I know what the final score was. Fact is..is you say anything on here that WOS, Silsbee, or Newton fans don't want to hear, then it's constant ridicule. I actually expected it.
-
I truly believe I didn't say anything taking away from the fact that WOS won and won by a big margin. I was referring to the fact that the score didn't tell the whole story, and Liberty was able to move the ball relatively easily. Is that not true?
-
I did say Liberty was a better team than HJ...and that HJ happened to beat them when they played. I also said Liberty would give WOS a lot better game than HJ did. As it turns out..Liberty is getting the #2 seed in that district...making them in fact the better team. And I'm pretty certain 32-7 is a bit better performance than what HJ could muster.
-
Oh I know. I take back everything I've ever said about WOS with the slightest implication that they aren't the greatest high school football team to ever play the game. I just wish they could play 6A so they could win the most prestigious of state titles. Give up 270 yards of offense, force very few turnovers, and keep the ball out of their hands for 37 minutes. Why on Earth would anyone see any issue at all with that. I must be losing my mind.
-
I seriously couldn't care less if it was 32-7 or 100-0. Don't care. All I said was that I heard that this game was a lot closer than the score showed. I then gave a description of HOW it was closer than the score showed. I understand that WOS won and that's all that matters. I'm just saying that they gave up a couple hundred yards and there were 60 some odd plays that they weren't able to run an offensive play. There are several teams better than Liberty that WOS will play on their way thru the playoffs...and a better team probably won't only score 7. All I was saying.
-
Here's all I'm saying. They were able to keep the ball out of WOS hands for 60 plays..or whatever. There are a lot of teams better than Liberty. All I'm saying.
-
I know what the score was. I know WOS won. I know WOS is 9-0. I know WOS is the defending state champs. I know..I know..I know. What I want to know...is WHAT WAS THE TIME OF POSSESSION? Do you know what that means? It means that I want to know how many minutes Liberty was able to keep the ball away from the WOS offense. That is relevant information to the argument that I heard. That is the manner in which I mean they were exposed. Liberty found a weakness in WOS defense by being able to lean on them the whole game. That's all I'm saying.
-
Just curious. Putting in an offense that keeps the ball out of WOS's hands, racking up over 200 yards on the ground, and holding them to under 40 IS NOT a strategy for winning? So what should they have done? Business as usual and take the 60-0 loss like the rest of the district? No offense...but I was told that Liberty gave themselves the best possible chance to keep the score close as possible. Seems like a good idea to me.
-
I said to correct what is wrong. By the way...what was the time of possession for each team? If it's even as close to the lopsided numbers I heard...that is proof positive that WOS couldn't keep Liberty from moving the ball. What were the numbers?
-
Well...this should get some folks stirred up. Here goes. This is what I heard. I didn't see...I heard. From a pretty reliable source. Feel free to correct anything I've put. I heard that WOS was exposed last week. I was told that Liberty was able to move the ball at will and that the score was not an indicator at all as to how close the game actually was or could have been. I was told that going into halftime Liberty was driving the ball (not managing the clock well), but driving none the less. The story I got is that with a few seconds to go until halftime Liberty made a pass down to the 3-yard line that was picked off. However, before the WOS player hit the ground with the ball it was ripped away by a Liberty player. And that the Liberty player actually stood up with the ball on the 3-yard line...and actually got set to run a play but was whistled off and the ball given to WOS after a referee consultation. That could've potentially made the game 14-13 or at least tied going into half. Could have. Speculation only of course. So then...WOS gets the ball after half and scores very quickly. No question that WOS offense is impressive. I was told that Liberty wasn't able to stop WOS either. Making the game 19-7. Which could have been 19-14. Could have been... So then Liberty gets the ball back and is again driving. Eating away time. This drive is ended because of a personal foul penalty that happens on the Liberty sideline. Apparently, a trainer or player on the sideline did or said something to a WOS player after a tackle near the sideline. Either way...possession ending penalty. Had that drive continued the way it was going Liberty could have definitely scored again. Again...could have. Then, of course, I was told that WOS scored in the last 2 minutes of the game and Liberty had a bunch of subs in. Again...what I heard. I wasn't there but I was definitely intrigued as this was being explained to me. I had to ask several times to make sure I was getting the story correct. At least...this version of the story. Don't shoot the messenger. This is all secondhand info anyway. But according to my source...if Liberty had a few more athletic kids and been a little more disciplined they could/would have very well beaten WOS.

How is Everyone Doing with their Pick 'ems?
oldschool2 replied to robanadana's topic in High School Football
Meh...I took a chance on a couple trying to close a gap with the spots above me. Didn't pan out. -
That's exactly what I said last week. No school, screwed up practice schedule, made a top 10 ranking,... I encountered absolute scrutiny. Whatever. I just said that Liberty was a better team, but lost the game. Apparently that's not possible

32-7 final
-
I don't think they sacrificed the HJ game for this. I think there was a complete lack of focus. They just thought the HJ game was gonna be an easy win. I think.
-
They probably changed offenses to keep the ball away from WOS. And keep the score low. Seems like a good plan to me.

Orangefield 17 Hardin-Jefferson 15/FINAL
oldschool2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
A week ago I said that even tho HJ beat Liberty, I felt Liberty was the better team. I also said Liberty would give WOS a better game. I was ridiculed. Well..I feel a lot better about those statements now. Looks to me like Liberty may end up with the 2nd seed. Which..you guessed it..makes them the better team.
