  1. Yikes...that's a long time to coach without making kids run. He may end up with a criminal investigation too.
  2. Well.. I see I've stirred up a mess. Excellent. For the the record..I never said a turf field is the reason for winning a state title. I just said its a funny coincidence 43 out it the last 50 state champions happen to play on turf. I said the WOS community should provide those kids with a nice field. I also happen to think they're economically smart over time. I was met with the typical "we don't need one". Maybe you don't. I just think it would be nice. By the way...between fund balance and a bond. It wouldn't cost as much as people think. Oh gosh! A million dollars! .. That really isn't that much money over the time it would take to pay for it. I've heard of bonds increasing taxes in the neighborhood of $17 per year per 100K of property value. I'm talking bonds a lot more than the cost of a facilities upgrade. But whatever..I hope your grandkid's grandkids are still playing on that grass, if that's what you want.
  3. I hope the guy does well. But I think this is a no win situation. We'll be having this conversation again in 2 years. It'll be some other guy and Lance Dale in the top 2 in 2018.
  4. Of course. But sometimes facts or statistics just bounce off people. Similar to Bernie or Hillary voters.
  5. "most of those are D3 which is really more like high school 2.0" That's what you said. Not me. High school 2.0 doesn't sound to me like you're giving much credit. I can assure you...there are several D2 and D3 athletes that are as good or better than some D1 kids. And like Tigers2010 said...just because they aren't getting "athletic scholarships" doesn't mean they are paying for school. There is a very good chance that lower level kids are paying less for school than some major D1 programs. I can give you 2 very good examples. A friend of mine had a kid play baseball at UT. (Texas). Stud in high school...got a partial scholly. 50%. Another guy I know had a daughter that went to McMurry to play soccor and was valedictorian of her high school class. Received a scholarship (academic) that paid FULL tuition for 4 years. Now...do we need to do some math? Granted...being an athlete isn't what paid for her school. But she likely would've went somewhere else had she not been a soccer recruit. By the way..not all D3 schools are private schools.
  6. Thanks for waiting. It didn't cause...but funny coincidence. 11 man State Champs THAT HAVE turf fields. 15-16. Bremond, Canadian, Brock, Waskom, Waco La Vega, Richmond George Ranch, Northshore, Katy 14-15. Canadian, Bremond, Cameron Yoe, Waskom, Navasota, Gilmer, Aledo, Ennis, Allen, Cedar Hill 13-14. Cameron Yoe, Cisco, Carthage, Argyle, Denton Guyer, Aledo, Allen, Cedar Hill 12-13. Cameron Yoe, Stephenville, Navasota, Denton Guyer, Cedar Park, Allen, Katy 11-12. Teneha, Refugio, Tyler Chapel Hill, Wimberly, Austin Lake Travis, Aledo, Southlake Carroll, Spring Dekaney Here...would've been easier to do this. Out of the last 50 Texas state champions....there were 7 that play on grass. Stamford, Wellington, Munday, East Bernard, Mason, Melissa,....and WOS. And I know how fields are picked for playoff games. Thanks. I also know that coaches always try to reserve nice fields.
  7. I find it funny that so many people on this site believe that lower levels of NCAA are so bad. Lower levels of college still have kids that are really good. They're doing everything in their power to recruit the best players possible just like the "big boys". College teams beat schools in a higher division every single year. They may not be beating the Alabamas of the world....but 98%+ of the kids on just about any high school team can't go play at a vast majority of D3 schools in the country. I didn't say be on the team..I said play. Yes D3 schools may have some sub par kids on the roster..but the ones that play are good.
  8. Congrats to these 2 boys. I'm not saying Coach Foreman isn't do all he can....but he can't get a kid to college unless the kid has ability, potential, and/or size. Come on. The best car salesman in the world can't sell me a car that doesn't have a motor in it.
  9. Do me a favor..make me a list of playoff games WOS has played on grass fields the last 5 years. Let's compare. Tell you what..make me a list of playoff games that were on grass fields last year. It won't take long. I mean..if "it doesn't matter"... And the kids technically should just be grateful to be in the playoffs.. Tell me the reason you think coaches play playoff games (majority) on turf fields. With nice venues and nice facilities. Why?
  10. Yeah...good idea. Keep coming up with reasons that justify not doing it. "They already know they're appreciated". "Nobody will want to play us". Like I said..sometimes is good to do it just because they may deserve it. The best gifts I ever got in life are ones I didn't want or ask for.
  11. Ok so who cares whether or not WOS hosts a playoff game. How about just rewarding the kids that go to school there for being consistently relevant in state competition. Being a constant winner should be rewarded. I've bought my kids a lot of crap they probably didn't necessarily need, but it was one of the many ways I expressed how much I care about them. No different. High school kids feel appreciated when they get nice, new stuff to represent the school with. It'll still save money in maintenance costs. This whole "it was good enough for us" attitude that consumes SETX is getting old. And quite a tragedy.
  12. I could care less. But a question came up in another thread that I was curious about. The question didn't belong in that thread...so I'll put the question here. Here's an interesting quote I got from it: "Just so you know the number of kids that got the opportunity to play ball at the next level since Foreman has been there is 2013 team - 12, 2014 - 13 and 2015 -9." That's 34 kids...with 2 more committing to a D1 school already recently. So...why isn't this obvious talent converting to wins? Specifically, playoff wins. (Just keeping good on my reputation)
  13. Must be my Sometimers acting up again. Getting old is a hell of a thing. The point was that the game's were played down here as a result of flipping home and home. And had there been a nice turf stadium to use, that particular school would've benefited financially. I think Lumberton going turf could potentially fill that roll. As I think Silsbee could as well. Both are pretty decent locations being on the relative northern part of the SETX area.
  14. Most schools are good at something. Usually boils down to "what do you want to be good at?"
  15. Maybe the board members and community members have hired private investigators and FBI detectives to find out which of the 2 finalists make kids run the most. Or try to find out which yells the most. Can't have a repeat of the last regime.
  16. Well..if you hear that they were going to win state next year, then you may be correct. I heard the same thing.
  17. Here's your big chance...all of you sideline heros out there. I'm sure they would count little dribbler / youth / AAU as coaching experience. Get out there and show us what coaching is about.
  18. Yes, the main issue one may run into as far as hosting playoff games is the fact that geographically SETX is really a midway point for anyone. Reason being that most SETX schools play schools from outside of SETX starting as early as round 1. However, it could be a good location (Silsbee) for a school that decided to flip for home because of not being able to decide on a location. That would probably be more feasible. I know a few years ago WOS played Carthage at the Montagne Center.
  19. Turf fields pay for themselves over time. Water, mowing, paint, maintenance, etc...That's including a practice field. Because with a turf field...you don't need a practice field. Plus the money you spend on man hours doing those necessary jobs. Plus the fact that turf fields are weather resistant...isn't there more rainfall in this area of the state than anywhere? Just saying. Plus the potential for extra money (hosting playoff games). Silsbee would be an ideal venue due to the size of the school plus location. I don't know of very many coaches searching the state for a grass field to play a game on. I'm sorry...but it's more about ignorance than anything. If taxpayers knew the amount of money they would eventually save, every high school would have a turf field.
  20. That's what I've been saying from day 1. Upgrades go WAY beyond new athletic facilities.
  21. Nobody is saying that this wasn't a great year (football) for SETX. WOS for one should be very proud of what was accomplished. But I'm not going to pretend that the previous 10 years should be wiped away. Can it continue? Yet to be seen. But I'm still believing that as a whole, this area does play second fiddle due to being behind the times. Like I said though...I'm seeing more and more glimpses of trying to catch up all the time. And it goes further than just facilities. You're right though...I thought Celina was going to win that game. I was wrong. I think the outcome would've been closer if not for the injury...but not enough to overcome the speed of WOS. Definitely wasn't a good matchup for Celina. So funny to me that so many people on this site assume I'm just an outright SETX hater. I'm just trying to provide an answer to a question. Why does SETX have so much individual talent, yet so few state titles? (recently) You guys just don't like the answer I give...not my problem some people can't face reality.
  22. Not for a second. I was merely making a point to WOSgrad that this field or any other wouldn't make a difference in how...I for one...feel about setx being behind the times. Would take more than a turf field.
  23. See what?.. You said setx would be considered behind the times for not building one of these. I've said setx is behind the times since I've been a member. A field like this has nothing to do with it. Facilities is just one part of the equation.
