Hamshire-Fannett 32 Huffman Hargrave 30/FINAL
Sportsilove2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
lumberton made playoffs for first time in 20 years last year, they broke the school record this year for most wins and just won first ever playoff game. That’s just as good as what Fannett has done and plus they beat Fannett twice this year. I would say Clay Davis as done just as a better job then either of them. Why are people acting like Fannett doesn’t have some good basketball players?? They had a pretty good football team the last 2 years they have athletes!! Let’s stop acting like Fannett doesn’t have talent. -

lol lumberton beat them twice, Clay Davis or the Lumberton coach deserves that honor. Hamshire Fannett has a good team and some pretty good athletes on the basketball court doesn’t surprise me one bit they have done well. -

Let's see. Lumberton was one game from making the playoffs this year (prob much better than most predicted), and the coach gets fired? He has also done a good job building the under levels of the basketball program. Coach Wueller has put them in contention to be playoff contenders for the foreseeable future, and he is replaced by a girl's coach with no experience on the boy's side? Sounds like a good 'ole boy network hire to me. I hope the AD will hold himself to the same standard that he has Coach Wueller.
Lumberton has been to the playoffs ONCE in 44 seasons...ONE TIME! ANYTHING that the AD does would be an improvement. Perhaps they NEED someone in there that knows the community, and will attract more players..Wueller, I am sure, did all he could do, but if you can't make the playoffs with FOUR teams going...At least ONCE....It may be time for a change.
I beg to differ with your statement. Have seen multiple instances where the AD brings in someone with a football background to coach basketball (not saying this is the case in this instance) and that never works.
Nash, Do you agree with the rest of DV's logic? DV, When was it that Lumberton went to the playoffs? Do we know who the coach was during that time and were there any notable players during that coach's time at the school?
. Yes Lumnerton went to the playoff in 2000. The head coach was Chris McClain. Notable players Were JOSH MITCHELL, Jory Fondren, & Justin shackleford, -
I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. I certainly didn't mean for this to turn into a discussion about whether or not I was a good football player! I probably couldn't even remember how to pad a pair of pants these days, so that is a moot point. I have had many conversations with Coach Haynes. He is a good man, and a good offensive coach. He lacks a lot on the defensive side of the ball, and I think even he would admit that. I have seen his Hardin program crumble due to discipline issues. I work with a guy who played for him at Crosby and told me the same thing happened there due to discipline issues. That is why I have formed the opinion I have. You don't have to agree with it, but I feel it is justified. I wish him luck. I really do. I just kinda think a 4A program, with recent success, in a great town could've done a little better. That's all. I hope Ltown proves me wrong.
That's your opinion fair enough -

Buddy Garrity it does matter how many points you score if you you can't put #'s on the board on the offense side of the ball what are the chances that your team will be successful but I do agree with the fact that you do need to have some what of a defense -

I'm sure scat was a good football player. I personally can not say if he was are not. Because I do not know him and it wouldn't be fair for me to say that he wasn't. My point I'm trying to make is that Larry Haynes is a great coach and unless you or scat really know him as a coach wouldn't it be unfair to say otherwise. Maybe there are a few areas he could improve on but over all the man is a very good coach -
