It’s just part of the game now, especially at these metro area schools. You can either get with it or complain while you’re getting rolled over. Those Dallas County all-star teams won 3 of the 4 5A/6A state titles. Aledo won the other one and what do you know, they just got a big time running back in the offseason. Even teams that you consider more homegrown like SLC just got a big time running back transfer denied. I’m not a fan but looking around the country the Texas transfer rules seem to be a lot more strict than some of the other around the country. I guarantee you if TV money ever got seriously integrated into THSF the UIL would cease to exist, kind of like the NCAA doesn’t now since they started to let conference commissioners negotiate their own TV contracts. You could probably get a six figure payout from the local Jefferson County TV station for the rights to the PNG/NED/PAM/BMT games.

Nice free agent pickup for the Cougars today. If there was one place we could’ve used some playmakers it was on the defensive line, particularly at DT. Well, today we got one out of Oxnard, California/Oxnard High School. Not necessarily as visually appealing as some of the physical specimens we’ve added this off-season but had a a solid very sophomore season at what would be considered a 6A school here in Texas(enrollment around 2,800). This makes the 8th eligible transfer or addition of a player that was ineligible last year this offseason. Seven of those players could start if the Dayton transfer wins a job and four of the five defensive starters should be high impact guys. Would’ve loved maybe a corner and guard but as a Crosby fan I don’t think the off-season galant acquisition process could’ve gone any better. Very good size for the Cougars across the board this year.

Lol, the kid that torched us two years ago coming off two ACL’s in less than a year? You must’ve heard something different about how he looked than I did? Not to mention Davis was on crutches this Spring after knee surgery. 2,800? Myles had over 3,500 and 50 tds and we went 6-5 the next year. Repeating 2018 when we were ranked #2 in the state after beating Manvel before Howard tore his ACL in Vidor’s mud pit? Yeah, I’ll be glad to repeat that without the injuries or the financial crisis that was impacting the school at the time. You see BHFan, even in a year we missed the playoffs we still did more than y’all ever have in 5A. If I was you I would be more worried about my QB throwing three more picks, the refs calling it square and y’all getting run out of the building as y’all have been so many times before.
-
Yeah, probably had over 40 kids on B team alone last year. We still have a lot of talent left in the class even after the three major transfers, no doubt all three had a huge impact though. Little Jerry would’ve probably been the backup varsity QB and there’s a good chance the freshman receiver that transferred to North Shore would’ve started in that spread offense we used to run.

Like I said, 1 point away from consecutive 4th place finishes in the golden era of BH football. All you highlighted is that Crosby can beat teams after Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, all y’all have demonstrated the last two years is that you put so much effort into the Crosby game that y’all collapse the next week as evident from the loss to La Porte last year and PNG the year prior. Lol, listen to you logic. You beat a 4th place team by 1 point at home on the last play of the game, a team that lost by 27 at home the next week to KP, and now you feel like that team is 21 points better than Crosby with no significant personnel improvements? Y’all depending on Herndon coming off two ACL’s to save y’all on the outside? Crosby’s defense was bad last year and y’all barely got 28 at home. If they don’t screw us on that intentional grounding call or that 4th int your QB threw that was called back, y’all are probably sitting there wondering if Abseck is really improving the program at all after going 6-5 with a first round L to Longview. And that was a down year for Crosby, we know that was an abnormally good year for BH as evident from their 2nd place finish.

That’s why it’s my job to make sure we hire good hands. I have no desire to be back working in the pipestills doing alignments on 500° equipment in the middle of the Summer. Nor do I need the weekend overtime dodging roaches changing well pumps at the lift stations around the yard. -
Judging from the first day of school numbers it looks like Crosby may not have enough freshman to field a full A & B team. Kind of shocking considering we're going to turn in an enrollment number somewhere around 2,100 in a couple of months.

You reminded us of that 11 years ago when I first go on here. The fact that 11 years later you still have to bring it up lets you know that to this day still see these first two quarters of exhibition football as the gospel. Que the Friday/Saturday morning "I can't belive the OC called that!" talk.

Nah, I had a $35M T/A kicking off and needed to have all the contracts in place before execution. I had to verify my main metals contactors had enough Vidor welders that could pass a meth test as to not effect my productivity rate. Some of your player's dads were working for me so they could answer your questions regarding my disappearance. -
Man, I ain't ever seen somebody with so much confidence after finishing 1 point out of 4th place. Myles hands the ball off like he should have and Coach P got on to him for not doing then BH finishes in 4th place, goes 6-5 and the discussion would be "Does BH make the playoffs this year?". Instead you're on here talking about how you think Crosby and BH are going in opposite directions. Let's look though BH last 5 years: 2022 - 2nd place (2nd rd) 2021 - 4th place (2nd rd) 2020 - 3rd place (2nd rd) 2019 - 1st place (3rd rd) 2018 3rd place (1st rd) Crosby last 5 years: 2022 - 4th place (1st rd) 2021 - 1st place (5th rd) 2020 - T-1st place (state finals) 2019 - 2nd place (2nd rd) 2018 - Missed playoffs for only time in last 18 years So when you don't use Dallas Cowboys logic I can say Crosby went from missing the playoffs to being one game away from consecutive state final appearances. Meanwhile, BH went from finishing 3rd to one point away from consecutive 4th place finishes over that same time span. Nobody besides a Barber Hill Cowboys fan would say "You know what, BH is the team that is really on the come". If that was the case we wouldn't be peeling off quality talent from your program.

I’ve never started a thread solely about BH, ever. I have posted in BH threads exactly 0 times this year, the same amount as Baytown Lee. I have posted a couple times in Dayton threads though. Feel free to go verify before the board gets too crowded. However, multiple BH fans have posted multiple times in Crosby threads in the last few days alone. -

That’s BH that judges their season according to how well you play against Crosby. The kids get a lot more hyped to play FB Marshall than they do BH. Y’all are just another game for us, same as Baytown Lee. -

If you’re just now making names up for it then it’s not really a rivalry. Crosby’s rival is, always has been and always will be Dayton. BH is to the Crosby/Dayton rivalry what Vidor is to the Ned/PNG rivalry. -
Touched on it on page two in this thread under “positive experiences”

Mods, how do we get enhancements to the board? In about a month or so we’re going to need to be able to post gifs of rice farmers, refinery operators and dead eagles. You know, things that capture the culture of Barbers Hill. -
The 1,000 acre neighborhood being built in Crosby that I believe is going to be the new hotbed of talent for us once we move to 6A. Going to be about 3k new homes with the more “affordable” options starting at 1,200sq ft. Sweetgrass Village could become what Barrett Station/Cedar Grove were in years past as far as neighborhood talent production. High traffic area on 1942 close to the Goose Creek district line which is great for free agents: [Hidden Content]

It depends on what your definition of a positive experience is? For the percentage of at risk student we have Crosby has one of the highest graduation rates in the state. BH was in the news for trying to make a kid cut his hair, not sure how positive that experience was for him? If your definition of a positive experience is that more parents at BH can pay out of their pockets to send their kids to college than Crosby then yeah, being at BH is a more positive experience.
-
What am I selling? The reason I said Willis might not be the right for for Crosby is because we’re NOT like places like BH. We have more people that work in the “service” side of the O&G, more diversity and more diverse opinions on how to go about things. If we can keep superintendents from robbing the kids then we’ve still done pretty well as a district historically though. The current supt. may not be the biggest proponent of the sports programs but she’s doing an awesome job for the district in general. The reason BH is relatively competitive across the board is two reasons. One, the district is heavily subsidized by the refineries in town and two, the sports like baseball and softball that you’re eluding to have lot more to do with disposable income than they do anything else. There are more black girls on Oklahoma’s roster than you might see the whole weekend at a travel ball tournament during the Summer. It’s to a slightly lesser extent in travel baseball but only because those coaches are more willing to come up with “payment arrangements” when you can get you hands on prospects from inner-city Houston like Carl Crawford and Michael Bourne. BH isn’t really “great” at any sports besides girls softball, y’all just dump a lot of money into the programs so your floor is generally higher than others across the board. Which is commendable for the kids’ sake.
-
Crazy comment coming from a fan of the guy whose team led the district in unsportsmanlike penalties a couple years ago and actually had their QB ejected in a crucial game?
-
My prediction is that an above average coach should be able to make the playoffs in this district with Crosby’s talent IF we can stay healthy. Nothing more really. We’ve been running plays for six days and we’re going to go try to play a game in 19. I expect some severe growing pains but a potentially high ceiling relative to the circumstances.
-
We actually got two, they both look pretty solid. 1 pt home win in a two point conversion has you thinking opposite trends, especially when we’ve played in BH 3 of the last 4 years? Y’all have played in 5A for what 20 years now, and finish 1 point away from 4th place in your district is peak success? Meanwhile the “opposite” trend fro crosby is finishing 8 points away from another district championship in a “down” year? Man BHFan, you’re holding our programs to different standards🤷🏾♂️
-
Man, who literally gives a crap about how kids celebrate? You sound like get off my lawn guy. You know how many people we’ve watched celebrate like they’ve won the Super Bowl when they’ve beaten Crosby at home, including y’all? Potentially sitting six weeks your senior has a way of impacting things, among other variables.
-
We could still go 4-6. The participation numbers are still low, we probably won’t even have enough for a freshman A & B this year. The fact that this year we more physically look like the Crosby teams we’ve become known for is somewhat of a given. We’re probably not going to have two consecutive years being as thin as we were last season if things are normal. We also have the supplemental talent eligible this year which is a nod to those kids and parents for getting their business taken care of even while the program was rudderless. All we’re talking about is what Crosby looks like physically. Houston Westbury looks like Spring Westfield and can’t play a lick though.
-
Lol, BH is a lot more like the Cowboys than Crosby. Always hope but NEVER a result, just optimism for no reason? No matter what you think about optimism around the Crosby program, there’s reason for it. We’ve been to three conference championships(semifinals) and a Super Bowl(state finals) since the advent of the smart phone. The Cowboys haven’t and neither has BH. P.S. - appreciate those studs we scooped up from y’all. You can see the new MLB wearing #99 on the second play of the highlights from practice yesterday
