New Caney @ Humble Thurs Night
Cougar14.2 replied to Lightning/Eagle's topic in High School Football
Never liked playing at Turner, especially on a short week. I don't think Splendora is very good but Humble did beat them after they beat Dayton and if Splendora could catch they might've beaten New Caney. Humble has also had two weeks to prepare so maybe they make it a better game of it than most think? I think New Caney ends up pulling away in the second half but I wouldn't be surprised if Humble's athleticism gives them trouble here and there. Even with all the onside kicks Humble held NC to their second lowest scoring total in 11 games last year. It's just hard to see Humble being able to score enough points to get the W this year. -
Thank you for summing that up. My initial post wasn't to try to make Neumann out to be a cheater which I think is kind of the perception. My point was that somebody who's been a relatively successful head coach for over two decades absolutely should know not to get into a gray area when dealing with player eligibility, rather intentionally or just from being overlooked. I think this is a completely different discussion if the violation was self-reported to the UIL like Katy's was.
-
Wait, the waiver was filed with the UIL, "The UIL saw something and contacted the school." MEANING THE UIL NEVER CLEARED THE KID INITIALLY AND NEUMANN PLAYED HIM ANYWAY? Paperwork with the UIL usually isn't filed until something happens at the district level first. If everything was on the up and up WHY DID PAM VOTE FOR NED TO FORFEIT AFTER SIGNING THE RELEASE? Do you not understand that or choose to believe the garbage you're being fed? *Somebody break out the transfer rules to make sure I'm not relaying a misnomer. Any kid transferring into the program must sit for a set amount of time as specified in the transfer rules(Number of days?). I believe it's 15 days. Laday came to Ned and didn't sit the allotted amount of time which Neumann knew about. Tells me he was negligent on following up on the information dealing his "surprise" transfer from down the street or he felt like since PAM signed a waiver for a kid they didn't need nobody would turn him in for trying to skate around the rules. Either way he's at fault. The Oliver boys transferred from King the prior semester but never played for Crosby because Riordan did his due diligence, same reason the new o-line transfer from King had to sit. The difference is the first game of the season when we played Nederland Riordan knew he didn't need them to win.
-
Lol, I wonder how some of the "it's not official yet" Ned fans spin that one. The eligibility waiver wasn't approved, Neumann knew that AND STILL decided to play the kid anyway. When he saw what he was dealing with this year he just got desperate for the W, or is that still considered speculation now that the DEC basically relayed that notion with their 7-0 vote?

You do realize Netherly didn't play much more than a couple of series in the BH game, right. BH got carved up by the backup qb, even though we blew you guys out I wouldn't say Crosby played overly well that game either. We're the deepest team in the district, a lot of our backups like the qb and rb would start for BH. Porter caught Crosby in a perfect storm and capitalized like a well coached team does. In 2014 when we went to the semis we won three of our first seven games by a td or less and lost the last game of the regular season. You'll see that when it's time for Crosby to go, we'll go. Just like we did for the BH game when we thought it might be for the DC.
-
You do realize the after you were embarrassed by BH the next five team you beat currently have a combined record of 9-18, right? IDK how you include anything about beating 1-5 Nederland when they already lost to Dayton at home in regulation and Dayton has basically lost to everybody else on their schedule. Not beating them at home in 35 years shows how bad and how long y'all have truly sucked, not how good y'all are this year for beating a down version of them. I know y'all are so thirsty for a decent product in Vidor you won't be able to see it that way, but when PNG blows y'all out this weekend you should just go ahead and drop your boys completely out of the top 10. At that point the two best team you played would've both beaten y'all by multiple tds but I'm sure you would find some justification to leave them in there. Maybe then you'll realize what you are instead of speculating on what you might be.
-
Somebody would have to actually respect you for you to be disrespected and nobody does. When a guy asks other mods how they voted Crosby in front of Porter after a 3 point overtime loss on the road, yet he votes Vidor two spots ahead of BH after losing by 5 tds at home you look like a fool. You look like that a lot though so I'm sure it doesn't make a difference one way or the other to you. I appreciate the offer but I don't think I could stand to sit at a table with you for any length of time.
-
The difference is that BH is coached a lot better than PNG. They're both soft on defense but it's harder to expose BH's softness now. Last four games I've got to see PNG play they given up 49, 56, 41 and 48 respectively. Angleton mashed it down PNG's throat, Dayton slung it around the yard and Crosby did a little of both. After supposedly having a decent defense last year they gave up 89 points in their two playoff games because up until then they didn't play anybody that could score efficiently except Nederland who they also lost to. I really don't even think blowing Vidor out Friday means much.
-
Seriously dude, ". . . this offense flourishes in the playoffs. . . " LOL??? That's why people laugh at y'all. One bi-district win in over five decades and you're talking about an offense flourishing in the playoffs???? That was BH's first time seeing it and they beat you by 5 tds. PLC runs the same offense Vidor does and does it with a lot more talent yet Crosby almost shut them out defensively like BH almost did in the opener. You can't look back five years ago and point to two wins the offense gave you without pointing to the 23 losses it's given you since then, or the 70+ losses Mathews had before that. People in 5A don't run that offense because they don't want to go 2-8 or 3-7 for the 5 to 10 years between playoff births, that's totally acceptable in Vidor though.
-
Dang, walking around work you really can't tell who won Friday. Dayton fans shrugging it off and accepting the fact they probably won't make the dance this year while BH fans keep talking about how disappointed they are about how bad they played. I have to keep reminding my BH buddies that they really did suck the last few years and have to keep reminding my Dayton buddies that this is the guy they asked for. *PS - One of the Dayton guys asked if I thought they could take Porter's coach away from them. It's funny but it's really not at the same time.
-
Since they already beat Crosby, Porter is at a point in the season where they just need to finish 2-3 down the stretch for a 5-3 district record. Since it's their first year under a new head coach you would think they continue to improve over the last half of the season and accomplish that goal. Much like I thought the BH vs Dayton score would be similar to the NC vs Dayton score, this could be another three TD win if Porter plays clean football. Porter may not be the best team Dayton has played but I think the coaching difference will be the most noticeable in this one and thus Porter will be harder to beat. Porter can actually beat you with their players too, not just scheme. Porter can lose to Dayton, BH and NC and still go to the playoffs with a 5-3 record as long as they beat Humble and Splendora. They're technically still not at the point where they have to win out but since they lost to BH already, a loss to Porter ends any realistic playoff shot for Dayton.
-
I remember that game when we had the Twins, they didn't play past the first quarter. It just happened to be 35-0, Porter gave up the other 35 to second and third stringers. That happened a lot that year, Austin Walter would've easily rushed for over 3,000 yards that year had he not been pulled so early because of some of those scores.
-
I agree with it not being rebuilding but they can still score a bunch of points with that offense, especially with their personnel. Per them they've been having qb issues the last couple of years and still scored 45 and 48 on BH, you knew the slant and bubble screen was coming then too. They just can't get the ball to the playmakers anymore, I know some was BH's improved D though.
-
Well said, exactly how I feel. I bet Crosby played 45 kids tonight, maybe because it was homecoming too. Grace probably ran for his career high tonight and Netherly could've easily ran for as many tds as he basically wanted. I think after we got the TD called back but was clear there would be no resistance Riordan kind of shut it down. Has a little '14 feel to it where you're waiting to see their best games which ended up happening in the playoffs.

Dayton Broncos vs Barbers Hill Eagles

You do have to be bigger, stronger and faster to be a better athlete. You don't have to be those things to be a better football player though. BH is developing their players better than Dayton right now. Dayton has three FBS level athletes if they were playing on a different team. -
Your coach scores a lot of points on people right now to build up his team's confidence. The score looks a lot closer than the actual game was. Our coach's focus is to try to get and keep our players healthy, he's not going to run a fake punt from his own side of the field when he's up three or four tds just to widen the margin. You just don't let them score just like we only let y'all score one offensive TD.
-
It was 19-0 at the end of the first quarter. I'm sure Crosby could've been more aggressive with the play calling to make the score look better but I think the focus is on getting through these next couple of weeks healthy and trying to peak going into the playoffs. That being said, we were still sloppy in the passing game. Defense played ok, starters gave up one TD and KP score another with 40 or 50 seconds left in the game on the backups.

With undefeated Porter up next and Crosby to follow. Might be 2-6 in a couple of weeks. To their credit you have to go back 20+ years to find a record like that. -

We just have to disagree then. Langelier is BH's best athlete but he's small. BH doesn't have a kid that can hold a candle to Mcquirter athletically and none of their kids can man up DeRouen, they should have Keener-like numbers. Throw in Styner and Gaines plus some other kids I don't know the name of and you see why I disagree. Dayton just can't maximize their ability like Stew and Hancock used to do plus they still get outcoached defensively. Dayton has better athletes than Porter too but you'll probably think the same thing you think about BH because Jim Holley will be coaching the team taking advantages of all Dayton's deficiencies like Westeberg did tonight. -
Good win BH. Figured it would look like this. Just not the same Dayton team under the new staff.

I actually think the boudin is pretty good, it's the tortilla it's wrapped in that throws my taste buds off. Only in BH. -
New Caney is good but I think they're going to have to score well into the 40's or more to beat BH, Crosby and maybe even Porter. Splendora got 15 points off turnovers but they could've also had at least 15 more if they could complete forward passes with any efficiency.

Teams that run shotgun seem to always fumble when trying to go under center. Tough to lose a fumble trying to take a knee right before half.

Question about PAM's student numbers regarding football
Cougar14.2 replied to PA4Real's topic in High School Football
Really doesn't matter, Chavez and South Houston still have to play 6A. North Shore is over 66% Hispanic and just won the 6A-D1 title. At the end of the day a bigger enrollment in the larger classifications means more opportunities for good players regardless of demographics. The smaller the enrollment the more demographics effect the makeup/strength of your football team. -
You're forgiven. My Dad always told me it's better to let somebody think you don't know something than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
