  1. Lol, Netherly and Williams sat across the isle from me at the Dayton game and watched y'all get mauled. They looked completely fine along with one of the other kids that was held out, so there's your updated injury report. There were Crosby fans in the stands literally calling out the Dayton plays before they were run and laughing at the result. I'm sure our coaching staff sitting over there was amused too. If I was you I would be worried about the way I'm fixing to go watch my team get flat out embarrassed in Mont Belvieu Friday.
  2. I don't think Ned has a snowball's chance in this one but just in case the ruling goes against them they'll need to probably win one of these against PAM or PNG with PNG obviously being their best chance. If Ned has to forfeit and Livingston is given that W, there's a good chance they both finish 4-4 in district play with Livingston having the heads-up tie-breaker and Ned staying home. Of course Central could finish 4-4 also which would probably give them the advantage in point differential since the Ned v Livingston game would most likely go down as an official 2-0 score.
  3. I don't doubt he has a plan, I'm sure Clayton Maple had a plan when he took over at Kingwood Park too. The question is, is his plan better than the four guys he's trying to catch in the district? New Caney is transfer central, they've literally cherry-picked the most talented players off their respective teams. Their new stud qb came from Caney Creek last year to replace their other stud transfer qb, their stud wr came from Kingwood Park to replace their other stud transfer wr who's at Nevada now and their stud rb is from St. Pius X and will go D1. Pennington knew he didn't have the homegrown players at NC yet so his plan is to acquire talent by any means legal. Riordan already had the best players in the district when he showed up at Crosby, now he's put the offseason program and certain "expectations" in place to the point where it's shocking for Crosby to lose to any unranked teams before the playoffs. Part of Westeberg's plan at BH also started with the offseason program, the other part is to let his team score 40+ every week and give them the confidence to think they can play with anybody. Once he gets some players BH will be tough to deal with but you can see the genesis of his plan. It didn't take long for any of these guys to do this. Halfway through the season I think you have to ask what Nations' plan actually is? Dayton was supposed to fix the defense with this hire but it's just as bad or maybe even worse. Dayton used to have one of the most potent offenses around, regardless of personnel. Now they have the best personnel I can remember since Green and Dugat but the offense has gotten worse, they execute like a freshman squad. I'm not saying all those things can't be fixed by Friday night but the way this guy was hyped coming in you would think none of those problems would even be an issue in the first place. The guy could realistically be 2-6 in a few weeks. As much as I love Dayton and BH losing, I have to admit it's a little unrewarding watching a member of the purple triangle struggle.
  4. Dayton gives up all those yards because they don't play assignment defense. New Caney basically ran four plays and scored all those points. BH can run but isn't really a running team anymore, the qb is a good runner but they throw it around the yard now. They score on you with scheme, they might not have the athletes New Caney does but their passing game is a lot more complex.
  5. I agree with that. The language that Nations can be heard using on the sideline used to fly back in the day when they didn't let you drink water at practice. You say that stuff to these kids today and they feel like they have every right to use the same language back at you. There's also no endgame when you act like a tea pot from kickoff to closing whistle. It eventually becomes white noise, especially when the kids feel like they have options like other sports or just not playing in general.
  6. The years Stew had elite talent are the years he did his best work though. Dayton didn't have that kind of talent when you graduated and barely made the playoffs because of it, even though in the '00 season he still had kids like Lamar Mitchell on the roster. That was over 15 years ago, since then the game has changed. Dayton was notorious for playing kids both ways under Stewart, back then when it was mostly run-based offenses it worked. Crosby fans always complained that we didn't play kids both ways but "Dayton puts their best players on the field" and that's why we lost. They did it all the way down to the middle school level. What it did while you were winning with the studs is under-develop a whole generation of kids though. Now the studs are gone and even though you have more kids playing there's not a bunch of football depth that I saw Friday night. My son played against Dayton's freshman team last year and I think I counted Dayton playing 18 kids total. The kids that are studs in 7th grade in Dayton are the same ones that they lean on in 12th grade, nobody ever emerges due to player development. For instance, Dayton's qb #8 would probably be a D1 level receiver in Crosby. #1 and #7 would also, instead he's just a big kid who runs soft and all his deficiencies are highlighted by the bad/predictable the play-calling. There might have been more winning going on at other schools in SETX but Stewart was the best coach in the area given his situation IMO. Now instead of the best coach in the area Dayton probably has the 5th best coach in the district to go with an enrollment that's getting left behind. I know it probably isn't a popular thing to say but with all the talented guys that were clamoring for the Dayton job this offseason it's amazing y'all ended up with the guy y'all did. As you can see with Porter and BH it doesn't take long for the right guy to turn it around, they're taking schools that have been missing the playoffs for several years and making them relevant. The guy Dayton hired is going to take a team that was already relevant with a 20+ year playoff streak and go the other way with it.
  7. Did Nations actually call plays under Stewart, I know his title was OC but did he actually call the offense? Maybe some of the problem is just not being on the sideline or running a practice for five years? Dayton also doesn't have the elite talent Stew got to work with at times. It took Brady Pennington three years of going 2-8, then 4-6 at New Caney before he got them back to the level he had Van. Now he has the hottest program in Montgomery County besides The Woodlands. Jim Holley was at KP beating an undefeated King with Trey Williams, now he's resource loaded at Porter with even more talent than he had at KP. Riordan needs 6 more wins for win #50 in his fifth year at Crosby. BH just broke the bank to bring in the most high profile coach in Texas. Different ballgame than five years ago. Tough sledding for Dayton's new coach, especially when all the other schools mentioned have rapidly climbing enrollments and plenty of resources. Friday night Dayton is going to see a school dedicated to trying to win against one that's dedicated the hometown guy/s.
  8. Boy, I would pay double to see is one but I'll be up 1942 watching the rebound game. With the group of kids Dayton has offensively this would've normally been a game where they just get on the field and out-athlete BH in the past, Dayton seems to have lost that ability though. Meanwhile BH is figuring out how to maximize their athletic ability with scheme and doing an excellent job. Game-wise I think Dayton might hit one or two big plays but will probably have to manufacture points due to BH's athletic deficiencies being negated by Dayton's sub-standard offensive execution. Put simply, Dayton is about to get outcoached for the third time in district play so far. That being said, I think this week against BH is still a better shot at a W than next week against Porter.
  9. Very good analysis. I don't think BH has much trouble getting to 40 on Dayton, but every position group for New Caney is a little better than what BH has right now. As a unit I think BH's defense is equal to New Caney's though.
  10. Shadow Creek is a bunch of kids that would normally go to Manvel. I wouldn't look at them as a get right game just because the don't have seniors. They'll be young but they'll still be those Manvel/Pearland level athletes.
  11. I can't find an official stat sheet judging from the main players' numbers it looks like Humble held Splendora to under 200 total yards of offense after they rushed for 437 on Dayton. After running for 344 yards in his last game Evan Nichols was held to 74 yards on 22 carries Friday night. He didn't have a run over 10 yards, Splendora's qb was 7-12 for 59 yards to go with 16 rushing yards. I think Splendora is what we thought they were, they just played over their skis on Dayton. I don't think they win another district game other than KP or Caney Creek.
  12. Tough spot for Westbrook to be in these next couple of years. Good football team the Bruins have this year, type of team Flannigan could get at least three deep. The 12-6A D2 #1 seed is set up to do so too. Problem is that you have to beat Lufkin to get it, which avoids Longview and gets you through bi-district. I don't think WB can beat the Woodlands, but who knows how those kids respond to the long ride? A win against Lufkin would make WB the favorite in the first two rounds though.
  13. All that stuff you said might get them an extra TD. Like I said before the season started, unless they have a real off night PAM is going to run through 22-5A with ease. Ned will provide little to no resistance either, I think PAM wins by at least 4 tds.
  14. As intense as your coach is on the sideline that's weird you mention intensity in practice? I know people don't like stats but other than the Humble game, against not so stellar competition Dayton is averaging 23ppg. That's a crazy number for a team that used to be able to scheme 40 on you with no problem, win or lose.
  15. Nah, I'm the one that said judging off the film I would be surprised if Dayton stayed within two tds of NC, you said you wouldn't expect anything less. I sat at the top on NC's side and listened to Nagions holler. Those sound like some older guys if they say they knew it all.
  16. I honestly honk it's down to them and Dayton for the last spot. One scenario I can see though is BH, Porter and Dayton all finishing 5-3 in district play and it coming down to some type of tiebreaker for the last two spots.
  17. You were right about the receivers you mentioned at the beginning of the year, been a long time since I seen a pair like Mcquirter(spelling?) and the DeRouen kid line up for Dayton. At Crosby Gaines would be out there with them but I understand why he plays qb at Dayton, #4 just isn't ready yet. Good luck against BH, kids and community over there are going to be outside their mind next week.
  18. Lol, I would never sit on Dayton's side in their home stadium. Probably should've sat on y'all side though, you had plenty of seats and the sewer smell was pretty intense when the wind shifted on the visitor's side. No way you watched Dayton execute at that jv level you love to speak of last night and can see them doing anything easily, including beating a good team. Luckily y'all have some studs to just make plays on offense otherwise I could easily see Dayton going 4-6. Win or lose, one thing that you'll see from Porter is that their coach didn't need a lot of time to turn the program around or have to be heard cursing in the opposing stands to do it.
  19. Humble's win over Splendora either helped things or hurt things depending on what your perception of those two teams are at this point in the season. Humble and Splendora both have New Caney, Barbers Hill, Porter and Crosby left to play. IMO they'll be considered underdogs in all four games, as we know upsets happen though. I think Crosby and New Caney are in but BH still isn't out of the woods. HUGE game in Mont Belvieu next Friday against Dayton. Even though they look like two teams on different trajectories if Dayton can get the W on the road they basically swap places with BH for the 4th spot for the week and play Porter for their season the first week in October. Regardless of what "place" they're technically in Dayton has to win two of the next three with one needing to be Porter. BH, it's pretty simple assuming Humble and Splendora are what I think. Just win the next three games against Dayton, Splendora and Humble and you're back in the dance for the first time in four years. As it stands right now. Porter can lose to all of New Caney, Dayton and BH and still get into the playoffs with a 5-3 record. They would need wins over Caney Creek, Splendora and Humble without winning one of the previous three I mentioned.
  20. The players looked healthy last night at the NC vs Dayton game, expect Crosby to look like they did the first three weeks of the season now that things are lined out. Our game with New Caney the last week of the season is most likely for the DC.
  21. I'm not trying to dampen your forecast but it's halfway through the season and look how many things you just named? Your defense isn't good because you don't have the personnel but you can manage with it. Even with the quarterback situation, offensively I can't remember last time I saw Dayton with a set of athletes like they have now. That being said, I expect the Barbers Hill score to be similar next week after seeing Dayton in person.
  22. Still too many moving parts with Humble beating Splendora tonight. Y'all don't have to win out but you have to beat Porter for sure and either Crosby or BH on the road.
  23. New Caney doubles Dayton up yardage wise: [Hidden Content]
  24. Trying to do scenarios now. Will post in the 21-5A playoff thread but need the Humble vs Splendora score
  25. 48-26 NC. 9 mins left in the game, probably all she wrote.
