Man, when somebody comes up with a fallacy like that you can bet that they have no clue what they're commenting about. Just someone felt they needed to comment on something, even they didn't know the first thing about it, sort of like earlier this offseason with the coaching moves.

Brett Sawyer hired as new Baytown Sterling HC!

Very nervous when Hutto took the ball and marched it right down the field on us. Lucky for us the poor kid never saw it coming, he dang sure did his best to rectify the mistake though. Chronicle had him down for 237 passing and 191 rushing, thankfully the time ran out and we at least got a regional crown that year. -

Herrick made Hutto relevant. If he doesn't have that kind of year on a senior heavy team in '14 then Sawyer probably doesn't even get the job. You can see from their record this year that even with kids like Ondario Robinson on defense, once they geared up to stop Herrick this past season Hutto struggled. That's even with a solid defensive coach like Steve Van Meter(Friendswood former coach). They gave up 35, 54 and 42 points in their three district losses this past season and got beat in the first round 38-6 by College Station. Not really sure that gets you a head job being a DC and giving up those numbers unless you can revert a couple of years back and show how Herrick was killing people and making them one dimensional and thus easier to defend. That's how. -

Well, now all Sterling has to do is find a kid like Tyler Herrick that got Sawyer the job and they'll be just fine. Kid annihilated Crosby in the regional final a couple years ago and almost won it by himself. I think he threw for over 3,000 yards and ran for another 1,000. He really put Hutto on the map since they made the move to 5A. Here's the kid that I would say was the catalyst for him getting the job. I don't think he's at Rusk more than two or three years. I heard he was from around Jacksonville so maybe he views it as a retirement job? I just think that after he gets that program going he'll have other offers from around the area that will be too good to pass up.

I guess Lee's coach has been in education less than 5 years because he started at $80k, I don't know their raise structure though so who knows what he makes now. When Sedberry was at Lee he applied for the Central job so I would imagine it was a raise for him to leave GCCISD and go to Central at the time. If it is Flannigan it would make sense because he's been a coach for a long time and could probably negotiate a higher salary. I know BISD started Foreman and Suggs around $80k so if Flannigan isn't making much more than that it's understandable for him to apply for a potential raise closer to home. Westbrook isn't in a far easier district either. North Shore and Atascosita are tough and will finish 1-2, but the rest of the district is mediocre to sub-par for the 6A level. Westbrook, The Woodlands, Lufkin and Montgomery are pretty solid for the top half of a 6A district. -
Ozen had the guy when they hired Plez Atkins away from North Forest, only other upgrade that I would say was the perfect fit for the situation at Ozen would be James Williams at FB Marshall. I would imagine FB ISD is a probably a more beneficial district to work in though. TK Harrison just left Crosby to be the OC at PAM, if Ozen is looking for a new head man Coach Harrison should be on the short list . . . the very short list.

Brett Sawyer hired as new Baytown Sterling HC!

That's definitely the truth. Question is will he be used like Craig Williams was as a sophomore last year, 89 carries for 985 yards, or will he be given a heavy workload as a sophomore due to the lack of players around him. I think Calvin can be a lot like Craig, but I would also say that if Craig played at Sterling he would be run into the ground and probably wouldn't be the #3 APB in the country right now. Sort of like D'Onta Allen's improvement once he left GCM for Crosby and was given a role instead of a load. -

Well, he made more than the position was offered for at GCM. Starting salary for a GCCISD head football coach was a little over $79k last year, whic is why I remember the Lee guy that came from Texas City starting at $80k. Maybe the teachers are paid great but when you can go to the SW side of Houston or north to Montgomery County, not be expected to win, and still start at 6 figures, GCCISD and their lack of talent becomes a hard sell to sought after coaches. You must not have seen them play on the underclass levels? They have a qb/rb combo that will be at least as good or better than Brantley(Tulane) and Williams(A&M). King's talent pool is growing just like all the other schools that are currently in our district except for maybe Dayton. They're doing a lot of upgrades at the school but Sheldon ISD will just eventually need another high school once the Liberty subdivisions are finished and they'll also see enrollment increases as Generation Park is being completed. The kids in that whole area north of 90 between CE King prkwy dang near to John Ralston are trying to go to King now. I believe Flannigan still does live in Crosby. The problem with GCCISD trying to get a good head coach is that they don't pay very much starting out, I believe the guy that took the Lee job started around $80k and Gerari was something similar. Hard to attract quality coaches around this area if you're going to pay Beaumont ISD salaries. -
Kid killed it last year with no other perceived threats on the team except the qb, if he's healthy he might put up JK Dobbins-like numbers dropping down a classification to Silsbee. I think with the Spring evaluation period drawing to a close you probably won't see many more Power 5 offers for him because of his size but I fully expect him to dismantle 4A competition next year. Pretty solid rating as the #24 APB in the country - [Hidden Content]

Good post Coach Bear. I hope some people on here were digesting those "why" reasons from the horses mouth. I never told you before, but thanks for having your guys take it easy on me in practice and letting me make it to college healthy. Really wished I would've listened to more of what you guys were trying to tell me. Freeman was #4, Clack was #7, this is #14 that went to South Dakota State y'all thought was a head case. I know I missed out on multiple offers because of it but sometime the hard way is the most tangible way to learn. Keep doing what you do coach, glad I got to be around you.

My point was that any time you see an astronomical amount spent on a high school stadium you start getting the detractors writing stories, like USA Today, about what could've alternatively been done with the money. You're helping me make my point when you highlight that it doesn't take away from the students in any manor.

The district I was talking about building a new school was Plano. They have three senior highs alone with enrollments totaling over 16k students. Highland Park is a wealthy district but very small when compared to Plano, Plano ISD already has two nice stadiums but when they were ready they could build something $60-$65 million and swallow the cost better than all these other districts except Katy. Plano ISD's operating budget last year was something like $435million, not to mention they probably have the biggest egos in Dallas so there's little to no chance they let $120+ million worth of stadiums go up within 5 miles of each other, right in their backyard, and not build anything to match.
-
Heard he looked real nice at the 7 on 7 between Crosby and PAM before the game had to be stopped. That's pretty high praise for him since Crosby had already taken out a loaded North Shore earlier.
-
It may be a while down the road but there's another district on 75 where the real money in Dallas resides outside of Highland Park. When that district decides it's time for a new stadium, it will become the new crown jewel of THSF. The district already has two nice stadiums but you can bet the egos in that part of town will want the best one, the residents could care less about the actual product on the field.
-
I think the sheer numbers are what makes people scratch their heads some. The actual economics of it for a city the size of McKinney aren't bad at all. Still a huge number for academics to come to terms with when you think of what that could provide for regular students. I think there are 3 or 4 more ISD's that could build/are building stadiums like this pretty soon if they so chose. Most interesting part of it is the stadium is estimated to cost $300k more than Katy's, probably just to say they have the most expensive stadium in the state.

Crosby Recruiting Coordinator/OC
Cougar14.2 replied to dillonpanthers's topic in High School Football
He has 27 reported offers so far, should be over 30 by the end of the Spring evaluation period. I think he's the second best receiver in the state behind Damion Miller at John Tyler. -
Crosby Recruiting Coordinator/OC
Cougar14.2 replied to dillonpanthers's topic in High School Football
Well, Coach Rio2 has moved on to Flower Mound Marcus. Glad to see him get a 6A opportunity closer to home. Great coach and great educator also, will most certainly be missed. Coach Nash will be taking over the receiver coaching now. On a lighter note, Sqwirl picked up two offers from Va. Tech and Auburn today to go with Mannie's offer from Ole' Miss after his de-commitment from A&M last night. Pretty impressive who's who of colleges coming through Crosby handing out offers today. -
Yeah, you're talking about DeAndre McNeal. Malik flashed so much more on film it's hard to say McNeal was better but he was definitely an elite prospect at the position coming out of high school. His problem is that he's a 'tweener IMO, he's nearly 240lbs and trying to play in the slot. He's better suited to play H/TE but he's short for the position. Tough luck but the kid is determined to catch passes at Texas so we'll see what happens when this new crop of receivers gets there.
-
That's how he should be looking at RSJ for not being able to pull double coverage off of him in the slot. I've already said in another thread that I think Mannie will have an Ashley Lelie type effect on the college game, at least Kirk could've played with one receiver that lived up to his rating other than himself before he leaves College Station after his junior year. Mannie's de-commitment was bigger than Martell's IMO though. A&M needs to give a long hard look at Jason Shelly or try to flip Avery Davis and stop chasing oos guys with high star rankings, I would even throw Kellon Mond into that mix even though he's from Texas.
-
I think McCulloch will push for playing time immediately if he has a good Summer. I expect him to be around 250lbs during fall camp, would suck to have to start a true freshman in the middle for the second straight year but I think he's actually more suited to do so than Malik. Wheeler is the starter on the weak side and pretty light, not sure he holds up in the middle. Maybe Edwin Freeman can get some reps there and allow Malik to move out to his more natural position?
