Yeah, that's kind of what I think Gage was doing too. Rhoades first coordinator job was nearly 20 years ago so I figure he's already mid to late 50's and looking to get that retirement up. Money is the only reason I could of for him to go from making the title game as the HC at New Braunfels to being the DC at Judson two or three years later. If money was the issue then it's not a stretch to think retirement is the issue now.

Well, they hired Flannigan after he got fired by one 21-5A team. Maybe they hire Hancock after he got fired by another 21-5A team? I don't think you'll get many high level candidates with what BISD pays and you probably won't find a guy with a better resume that's been fired. My personal preference would be to see Hancock at Humble though.

Yeah, even though WOS, La Vega, George Ranch and North Shore all won state there are some people on this site who think all you need is a coach and money. Well, BH has the money and if Rhoades is the guy then they'll have someone who has coached in 7 state championship games. Rhoades has a Jerry Stewart type temperament which I don't really see being a fit at BH, I'm sure all that will change if he can win though. I just think there could be a little frustration after coaching at New Braunfels, Judson, Coppell and Yoe then coming to BH and working with their talent comparable to the surrounding teams.

I think you almost have to pencil in a de-commitment from Bowman Sells at Lucas Lovejoy. It says Sells is supposed to be an early enrollee but I don't think he's signed his financial aide agreement yet. Hopefully Hermann doesn't run into the same problem A&M had at the qb position. I don't think there's any argument he has the best crop of qbs on campus/signed/committed in the state. Greg Ward is on campus and should've gotten some Heisman consideration IMO. Kyle Allen, which was the #1 pro-style prospect in the country, is transferring in. For the 2016 class he has Bowman Sells, who has Clemson and Ohio St. offers, committed. He also has D'Eriq King a.k.a., Kyler Murray south, committed. For the 2017 class he has Jaylon Moscorro committed. Herman has accumulated an embarrassment of riches not seen at UH since the Bill Yoeman days. I know Aggie would sell their mascot to get him in College Station but I'm not so sure he views it as a better job than the one he already has.

I've been explaining to and consulting with Richard Ogbah, Emmanuel Ogbah's dad, since his junior year at FB Bush. Richard brought Emmanuel's scholarship offer from Harvard to work and pretty much begged me to help persuade him to go there. He felt Emmanuel would listen to me explain the importance of education since I was a young black guy who had played college ball and gotten a degree. Instead, I spent the next two years explaining to Richard the finer points of American football Now Emmanuel is going to be a first round pick this year. Not to mention his high school classmate, Cam Ridley, will also be a first round pick in the association.

Well, Aggie is officially in deep fertilizer. All those transfer qbs suck and Jalen Hurts is officially enrolled in Alabama. I dint believe Tate Martell in the 2017 class is the answer either, if I'm A&M I go all in on trying to flip Shawn Robinson from TCU. A&M will probably struggle to win 6 games with Hubanek next year and finish 6th in the SEC west. If I'm Sumlin I give the Aggie fans what they want and get out of town before it gets any worse.

It's going to depend on what grades Shadow Creek will open up with. When we play Manvel next year they'll have about 1000 less kids than they do now. If they open with a junior class, half of those kids will you're talking about will go to Shadow Creek. I've been in depth in what they have coming up recruiting wise, Crosby will sign more FBS kids than Manvel for their '17 class. The difference between 5A and 6A is the line of scrimmage, it's going to be a lot different lining up with RP who had 2,348 kids versus lining up with Manvel who'll be around 1,550.

Yeah, but Manvel is signing 12 D1 kids this year. That will hurt them more than even the 1000+ students they're about to lose before next season. They only have one skill player coming back on offense and I believe only two linemen. I actually think Crosby has more talent coming back than Manvel with the school splits. The only two big time players they have coming back are Jalen Preston at receiver and Derrick Tucker at safety.

I was flipping back and forth between the UA All-American practices last night and the bowl games. I've always thought the highest concentration of public school talent in the country is in either Dade County or Fort Bend County, much less their respective states. I'm no so sure northeast Harris county wouldn't give those areas a run for their money this year and this year only.

Tom Lemming just got the top 2017 players in the Houston area together. I was excited to see the three from Crosby. . . Then I saw that Manvel, who Crosby opens with next year, had 8.

I've never seen it given to a linemen but Keenan Murphy, (OT) Crosby, was named Baytown Sun Player of the year. The UH commit has been nasty since the first time I saw him lining up as a sophomore against Nederland.

He's already gotten beaten out twice at two different positions. The latest is by another true freshman 5-star, Minkah Fitzpatrick, who's a longer and more rangy cover guy that Saban probably sees in the mold of first round pick Dre Kirkpatrick. Not to mention the other 5-star track kid, Kendall Sheffield from FB Marshall, will be ready to go next year in the 'Bama secondary. Every kid that's at Alabama has worked hard to get there, just like the vast majority of all other college athletes. The difference is at 'Bama you don't get the same amount of rope because everybody is just as talented as you are. I highlighted Fields because you really can't get much worse than what he was doing, yet you haven't heard a peep from him until he was laying on A&M's qb last night. Cam Newton got in trouble multiple times at Florida, Urban Meyer didn't kick him off the team but he saw the writing on the wall and transferred. Should he have tried to stick it out at Florida because it was best for him, or did he make the right decision by going to Blinn and winning a title before going to Auburn and winning another title with a Heisman to go with it? Saban suspended Alvin Kamara for the Sugar Bowl a couple of years back, should he have stuck it out at 'Bama to get back in his good graces or go kill it like he's doing at Tennessee right now? I'm not saying a change of scenery is the best option, I'm just saying playing special teams and backing up younger players at 'Bama might not be. Getting sent home you sophomore year the day before your team's biggest game of the season is a lot darker mark than a misdemeanor arrest as a freshman. If he was in Saban's doghouse before he's probably moved to the outhouse now.

Wow, that's a lot to infer. Sometimes the root of the problem is that you need a change of scenery. I'm watching the A&M game right now and saw DeVante Fields sack their qb. Fields was the defensive player of the year in the Big 12 as a freshman but had issues, now he's at Louisville playing in a bowl game and about to get drafted. You can even take Hubanek playing A&M tonight after transferring from two schools, albeit for a different reason. Sometimes it just doesn't work for some players in some places. I'm not saying it's the best option but it's probably time to start thinking about it after how the last two years went. I think the "trapped in the 409" thing is still a bit of a stretch at this point though.

Well, it might be time to transfer to UH. He would have three to play two if he got a full release since he didn't redshirt. Transfer corners have had some success at UH recently, DJ Hayden got drafted in the first round by the Raiders a couple of years ago and William Jackson should go in the middle rounds this year. Tony actually reminds me a lot of another UH corner a while back, Stanford Routt, that ran 4.27 at the combine and also got drafted by the Raiders in the second round. May just need a fresh start, Minkah Fitzpatrick is just a freshman and he isn't going to beat him out anyway.

A Barbers Hill guy came and talked to me about Kevin Flannigan for about a half hour today, wanting to know if I thought he could win there. I thought it was kind of weird Flannigan would apply for a job making pretty much equal money, with less talent, in the same district? Maybe he's trying to get closer back this way? Hard not to take a serious look when a guy's resume has, " . . . been to the playoffs 9 of last 11 years at 5A and 6A programs in the area."

Same question I would have? Even if GCM paid the maximum the position offers it would still be about a $15k pay-cut to take the job compared to the nearly $100k he makes now. I'm pretty sure Dayton can pay more than the GCM job he applied for and much like working in Baytown he wouldn't have to move the family. It would also be a lot easier to win at Dayton than it would at GCM transitioning into 6A. I highly doubt where he graduated from would play into it at all, and would probably be a benefit if anything . I would assume Lytle's head coach, Damian Judge, also applied for it and he's also a Crosby graduate.

If I was Dayton right now I would be taking a long hard look at Coach Freeman if he also applied. I think he would be a perfect fit for Dayton. I think he could have Claude Mathis type results given the fact Dayton will be locked into the D2 playoffs for the foreseeable future. I think they would also be in excellent position to retain him once he produced those type results.

I don't think Sumlin would put the wood to him like that. Allen basically got an unconditional release to anyone other than who's on A&M's schedule. The basketball coaches screw kids like that sometime but it's a bad look for future recruits in relation to football, especially big time ones.

Guys like Taylor Jungmann and Mark Appel don't pay anything to go to school. You get the equivalent of so many full scholarships to be divided as the coach sees fit. The sliding scale is because the scholarships are one year renewables, a coach can choose to raise or lower your money based on performance or other factors. Like you said, in lots of cases they cover other expenses with supplementary scholarships or some mysterious grant that shows up. As far as the class thing, we had baseball players at South Dakota State that I also took Summer classes with. When you're a part time student it just means you don't receive any athletic aide and can't participate in games. In baseball you would do this during the fall semester, you would still be able to participate in all the activities but basically have walk-on status. You just see this happen so little in baseball because the kids are re-drafted after their third year and never need the last year of eligibility when these things would come into play.
