  1. Think about it though. Of the last possible 20 titles Aledo and Travis have won 10 of them. Region 3 has played for either 10 or 11 of the possible 20 titles, it's hard to beat those teams though. They're not trading off teams and still beating everybody, it's the same few teams over and over. Even if you look at Vandy which beat CP in district play last year, they scored 35 on Temple and still lost by 41. Temple barely beat Ridge Point and George Ranch by 3 points last year the two rounds prior, the only thing remembered is that they lost to Aledo though. So with money, coaching and 2400+ kids in 5A Vandy still got smoked. I know Travis moved up but they still have money and coaching right? Well, so far in 6A they have made it out of the second round once. Last year they lost to Spring which I believed finished fourth in their district and this year they get Westfield in the second round, lets see what the money and coaching does for them when they get some studs from north Houston lined up across from them again. Even when they did get past he second round it didn't help against Cedar Hill. Much like having the best players its also different when you have the most players, which is what BH will need to consistently compete. Those Leander ISD schools in 25-5A are a lot like LT when they just had more kids than everybody they played.
  2. I understand what you're saying but you keep naming Aledo, who are the other Aledo's? Nobody else with money can find a coach like Aledo's? Why aren't there 10 Aledo's out of the 1400+ Texas High Schools? No they don't have JG anymore, but they still have D1 linemen that block for D1 backs and they throw to D1 receivers. Aledo has a lot of FBS talent, and who do the play in the semis and finals? Brenham, Temple, John Tyler, Manvel, La Marque, Guyer, etc. None of those teams are what I would consider having money and none look demographically like BH. I agree that you don't need those kids to win but it's funny how those teams keep winning. Even when Dayton played Travis they had Gilbert who ended up being the Gatorade National Player of the Year to go along with 5 or 6 other FBS kids, Dayton had Green and Dugat. After Katy name the best 5-10 6A's in Houston. Probably Manvel, Westfield, Pearland, North Shore, Dickinson, Atascosita, etc. It's not really true to say the teams playing deep into the playoffs are more like BH than Crosby. I'm not saying you need the best athletes to win, I'm just saying there are probably 50+ BH's around Texas but only one Katy.
  3. With the level of athlete BH has right now they can compete in cycles. With their enrollment and the level of competition they play it's almost impossible to do it consistently though. I think once their enrollment gets to 1800-2000 you can start to see them as a yearly contender again. You use Cedar Park and Aledo as examples but Cedar park is one of the bigger 5A's in the state and I don't think Johnathan Gray will ever walk down the hall in Barbers Hill. Cedar Park and Aledo also produce their fair share of D1 talent, and some of it the most elite in the country. Over the last decade both of those schools have sent a lot more kids D1 than Crosby has. Even Stewart's best teams were with guys like Pearson, Mitchell, Green, and Dugat. He was the only guy winning like that around here. Katy is probably the only team in the state that you can say sort of beats teams at a talent deficit. There's a reason the other 1000+ coaches around the state can't copy Katy though.
  4. It may not be a stretch to think King has three more players like that coming though. When Williams was a freshman they had a kid named AJ Jeffery that played running back there before he transferred to Summer Creek. When I was talking football one day with my cousin who's a coach at North Shore he told me about the freshman back at King which was Williams at the time. I didn't really get to see film of Williams freshman's year until after he was a sophomore and getting noticed. It was impressive. Well, now they have another freshman back who also wears #3 and is probably even more impressive. They definitely have receivers that project to be as good as Coleman too. And as usual, they have speed to burn. Not to mention they're probably picking transfers from North Shore and North Forest who are only 5 or 6 miles away. IMO, the ability of King's staff to develop quarterbacks is where their success will lie or not. They're probably fine everywhere else as long as they can stay in 5A.
  5. BH was successful under Price when they were the big school down in 3A(4A). He went undefeated his first season they moved up, then subsequently went .500 the next four years combined. When Price got fired he turned over a young team to Gage that had went 7-4 the year before and were poised to have the season they did in 2011. Since taking over for Price he's 33-20 and has one playoff win to his credit while Price never won a playoff game after they moved up. Every few years BH does get Dayton or Crosby in a dog fight. I understand what you're saying about Riordan coming into Crosby and getting us past the second round hump, but if Evans develops players so well then why couldn't he get East Chambers past the second round? You do realize that in a 6 year span at running back alone he had Lennon Creer(Tennessee), Bryce Beal(Houston) and BJ Allen(Baylor). On some of those same teams he had Denarius Moore(Tennessee) and Chance Blackmon(Colorado). If they didn't score enough they had guys like Stephen Hodge(TCU) on the defensive side of the ball. I understand your theory about his level of player development. I'm just telling you it's a lot easier to win the derby if you already have a bunch of thoroughbreds in the stable to choose from versus trying to "develop" some.
  6. That's definitely one of the more ignorant comments I've seen on here this year. I would assume apples to oranges is what you were talking about? Evans won those state titles with Lennon Creer and Denarius Moore. Creer was the most dominant player at the small school level at that time and Moore was a future NFL draft pick, he had them both on the same team in 2A/3A. The next time Tatum was really good they had Jalen Overstreet who was at the time probably the #5 dual-threat qb in the entire country . . . playing 2A. Some places, especially at the small school level you're going to win sometime because your players are just that much better than everybody else. When Tatum had to come up this last alignment and their talent level didn't dwarf everybody they went 7-16, the last time they came up before that was '08 and '09 when they went 11-11. It's a lot different coaching when you have the best players on the field, that's never going to be the case if he went to BH. You can even look at the Rivals pages and see the talent difference even though BH has the much larger enrollment. Kids at each school that were recruited enough to receive a profile: Tatum: [Hidden Content] Barbers Hill: [Hidden Content]
  7. Isn't this guy like 35, has he ever even called a play at the high school level? I know Crosby got a young guy but he was also a state championship level coordinator. BH tries to steamroll people now and can't, it would be more of the same trying to run La Porte's offense without La Porte's caliber of players.
  8. It's money or athletes. You ironically won't find a "good coach" somewhere they don't have one of the two.
  9. C'mon man. You're talking apples and oranges. Tatum produces NFL players, Barbers Hill is probably close to three times their size and can't produce a D1 kid. I'm not at all saying that's what you need to win but you also have to ask yourself who they're going to beat? It's a lot easier to win when you have better players than everybody else. Price and Gage both won district titles at BH, Price going undefeated. Last time they were able to get into the playoffs they won 31-0, the next two years they went 6-4 and missed them. It's just hard to win consistently given some of the factors against them.
  10. Seems like a reach for Barbers Hill. First time head coach that's never even been a coordinator. I would think coordinators at places like Manvel, Katy, Pearland or one of the Cypress schools would be higher on the list. One thing for sure is that they still won't need to buy any receiver gloves.
  11. To Aggie fans it doesn't matter if they finish 9th or 10th in the SEC. As long as 'Bama, Auburn or LSU win the title they're good. It gives them another year of, "I know we weren't that good but somebody from out conference still won it" rhetoric.
  12. I'm not really sure how you figured those numbers up. I went from the time TCU entered the Big 12 in 2012. The first number is the national rank and the second is their Big 12 rank: TCU classes: 2012(42)(7), 2013(42)(7), 2014(35)(6), 2015(29)(5) The overall class average is 37th and 6.25 in the Big 12 Baylor classes: 2012(26)(3), 2013(27)(3), 2014(26)(3), 2015(37)(5) The overall class average is 29th and 3.5 in the Big 12 Patterson's best class in the Big 12 was 5th while Briles hasn't finished with a class less than 5th in that same period. Patterson has a BCS Rose Bowl victory over a JJ Watt led Wisconsin team without a single 4 star recruit on the team while Briles has lost both of his BCS games with multiple 4 stars, better rosters than the opponents and gives up about 50 ppg in the process. Briles came to Baylor who was already in the Big 12 and went 8-16 his first two seasons, Patterson brought non-power 5 talent to the Big 12 and went 11-14. Neither was impressive but Patteson was still better. Yeah, we can just disagree on Strong and Sumlin. I've never seen Strong lose a game where he was favored by probably 20+ like Sumlin lost with Keenum to So. Miss. I've never seen him produce back to back 10+ win seasons and I also never seen him win a conference title or BCS game like Strong has so we definitely won't agree there. I don't hate on Sumlin and I certainly don't want him to fail. There aren't enough black coaches in the FBS as it is, I certainly don't want to see any fired, especially in the SEC where they fly Dixie like it veteran's day. I'm just calling it how I see it.
  13. Briles doesn't really do more with less, that would be what Patterson does. Briles gets high level recruits on a yearly basis, especially on the offensive side of the ball. I personally think Jarrett Stidham was the best qb in the 2015 class and Baylor got him. He also got Josh Gordon from Lamar who led the league in receiving in his you career already. He signed the best receiver I've seen come out of Texas in a good while with KD Cannon. He signed Terrance Williams from Ennis. He's had RG3 and numerous first round draft picks on the line of scrimmage. Briles is going to get some big time players in every class, on the other hand DeVonte Fields is the only big time player Payterson has ever signed out of high school. If Sumlin is in the mix having never even won a conference title, I don't think it's a stretch to put David Baliff in the mix for what he's doing at Rice with their academic requirements which are probably the most strict in the FBS. I would put Strong ahead of both of them though. 23-3 his last couple of years at Louisville with a BCS Sugar Bowl win over Florida and finishing tied for first in the conference in 2011.
  14. It's about 50/50 over here. Half think he's going to UH with his teammates and old coach, the other half think he'll be a package deal to Florida or ASU with DSC.
  15. I'm a Texas fan and my son wants to play receiver at UT just like Dickson probably will. I know he's rated high so the expectations come with it, but those should probably be tempered a bit. Quan Crosby is probably his ceiling. I hope I'm wrong though. Tyrie Cleveland and Devin Duvernay are the two prize receivers in the state this year IMO.
  16. For the most part your first sentence is correct. I don't think Aggie will fade into oblivion but I think they're a 6-8 win program on average in the SEC west. I was just saying you won't be pulling guys like Speedy Noil away from LSU or Alabama after recruits keep watching you lose to them. A&M was and sort of still is hot right now so you get an influx of commits you would've normally not gotten and never have gotten before. The further away you get from Johnny Football and the more the L's start to pile up, the more the recruits start to see your program like Arkansas or Miss St. meaning they can be good at times but on average they'll be towards the bottom. If it happened to Texas, Florida and Michigan, all programs who crush A&M in terms of national prowess, it could surely happen to Ag. Very few of the kids A&M recruit grow up Aggie fans versus Texas where almost every kid they recruit grew up a fan. That carries weight when your program is in a rough spot which is why Texas can still get big time players after down years, that's never happened at A&M. I'm not concerned with Ag's ab situation at all. I'm just letting you know in Sumlin's qb-centric offense that Kyle Allen is going to struggle against the pass rush and he doesn't have a very good running game to lean on and help him through tough spots. You'll see what happens mean by late October.
  17. Dylan Mack was probably a bit of a different case. He was an attention guy. Kendall Jones was working on Little the whole time they were at the Opening. It's a lot more likely Little will commit to Alabama and go with Jones than re-committing to Aggie, they've also produced a few linemen lately. I think you'll see A&M start to lose a lot more recruiting battles to teams that are beating them on the field in the SEC west which will ultimately translate to even more losses. A&M needs to win bad this year or the bottom might fall out.
  18. Mack, I respect your opinions because I think your a real football guy like me. I can't say the same for the majority of your constituents though. I think we can agree that no matter how much how much UCLA wins that they'll never be USC. USC was down for a long while but soon as they won a couple of games they dominated California once again. Michigan is down right now while Michigan St. is killing it. No matter how long that happens or how much they can beat Michigan though, they'll never be as good as Michigan can be at their best. Miss St. could never be Ole Miss at their best. Same goes for Georgia and Georgia Tech. Auburn and Alabama. Oregon St. and Oregon. Oklahoma and Oklahoma St. No matter how good A&M gets, they'll never be as good as Texas can be when they're rolling. Some things are just inherent.
  19. No, quality players don't only come to play for Sumlin. The tackle A&M just signed from Buda Hayes would have come anyway, when he said "they have horses close by the stadium" it lets you know A&M was probably the leader all along. Before Sumlin got to A&M find one recruit other than Joekel and Matthews boys(maybes) that had offers from Texas when they signed with A&M. Charlie had to clean up the entitlements which is why kids were dismissed which no doubt affected the initial product, Sumlin won the first year with Sherman's players then subsequently digressed when he recruited his own even though they were rated much higher. Manziel, Evans, Moore, Miller, etc. never got Texas offers or they wouldn't have chosen Ag at that time. Same goes for Reggie McNeal. Ask Penn State how recruiting with James Franklin is going vs how it did with Bill O'Brian who did a good enough job there to get an NFL gig? So yes, we'll just have to disagree on that. A&M better hope their qb situation works out this year or they'll be lucky to match their win total from last year while Texas is probably a 10 win season away from totally dominating the state in recruiting once again. Texas fans understand it takes more than highly ranked recruiting classes to win big, not sure Ag gets that yet.
  20. If they want to play against the best in the SEC then why don't Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky and Vandy recruit at a high level? Why can Louisville out recruit Kentucky on a regular basis? Find the article where Clarence McKinney talks about why Sumlin connects with the urban kids and you'll see it has very little to do with the SEC. Kids want to play on the big stage but they also don't want to lose 59-0. Eventually they just go join the best instead of getting beat down by them. As the nostalgia wears off A&M will slowly regress back to the mean, they're basically already there now. Trust me when I say that probably less than 10% of the kids A&M signs actually saw them play a game on TV growing up against someone other than Texas. On the other hand 90% can tell you about memories they have of watching Texas on TV. If Texas and A&M end up with the same record again you'll see Texas finish with a better class again. You can hang on to the SEC coat tail all you want but that's just more for us to point and laugh at also.
  21. I was talking about both. Lampkin is probably the only kid that won't eventually get to campus. That pales in comparison to A&M's 2013 class of which probably only half of the signees are still there. While A&M is in the SEC and it helps their recruiting some it's really not that big of a factor in overall recruiting. The facilities are good at A&M but a barber shop in the locker room or interactive lockers won't sway many kids who are being offered by other big programs. It may help Bama, LSU, Florida and Georgia but those are traditional powers, A&M isn't. Most of the quality players come strictly to play for Sumlin.
  22. You're technically right for now. A&M is ahead of Texas because they have over twice the commits right now. If you look at the player averages Texas' commits are rated slightly higher right now though. If you look further into it you'll see that even though A&M signed three 5 stars they still finished behind Texas in the class rankings last year and only finished .005 of a percentage point higher in player average. I think that's pretty interesting, tells me more top recruits are buying into what Strong is preaching but waiting to see A&M's win total.
  23. Shawn Robinson is a 2017 commit. TCU has the #5 2017 class so far. Ag's problem is that kid realize they have to live in College Station once they enroll. I said it once before and it wasn't popular but the majority of the reason A&M recruits the way they do is because of Sumlin. If he wasn't there you would never get the urban kids to commit at the rate they do. Very few kids with real options from those places chose A&M before and if Sumlin leaves they'll stop again. Another mediocre season at A&M and I think Sumlin bolts for the NFL while he still can. I doubt A&M can ever consistently challenge at the top of the SEC like some Ag fans think.
  24. Ok, there's 90k students in a 30 mile radius between UT and Texas State. You want to see a real spectacle, go to 6th street on Friday night. It makes Northgate look like the strip in a dairy farming community. I can't lie and say Northgate isn't a great place to close the deal but it usually takes a little more alcohol than it does on The Hill at SMU or on the river in San Marcos.
  25. My high school teammate used to kick for the Bobcats and his girlfriend(now wife) was a cheerleader. Bikini tops are a common sight on campus late in the Spring semester and during summer school. The girls at the Dixie Chicken wear cutoff bib overalls and boots with no socks.
