Texas Football Predictions for 5A-D2 Region III
Cougar14.2 replied to dme1111's topic in High School Football
Somebody would first have to make a convincing argument on why PNG won't start 0-5? I'm as high on PNG as any and think they'll run the table the last half of the regular season to at least finish 5-5(5-2) overall but with the quality I expect to see from FBM and TC it's hard to see them challenging for a district title. PNG first five games: 1. Port Arthur Memorial - home 2. Beaumont United - away 3. West Orange-Stark - away 4. Fort Bend Marshall - away 5. Texas City - home -
Texas Football Predictions for 5A-D2 Region III

I think there's a good chance Ned starts the season 3-3. If those three wins are all district wins I think they finish a game clear of Dayton and get the 4th spot. If for any reason they make that long ride to Missouri City to play FB Willowridge and have a night like they did against KP, or lose at home to Dayton the next week, it's pretty unlikely they make the playoffs. That last month of the season is brutal for the Dogs. I do think Ned's schedule is more manageable than Dayton and PNG's who they'll most likely be competing with for those last two playoff spots though. -

Looks like the Barbers Hill preseason hype video is out. Who lives in whose head rent free again🤔 -
The thread was about turf vs grass. The ONE Crosby poster in this thread gave an example of pros and cons for both. The Vidor posters had an issue with the comment and brought up Liberty Hill. Everybody reading this thread can see that though. Again, have a nice day✌🏾
-
Alright dude, you’re talking about my wife, mother, sisters and daughter now. The reason I bench press over 400lbs right now is for when people get loose with the mouth. I’ve been on this board for 11 years so I’m older and now though. Y’all can have it✌🏾
-
“We” don’t make them believe their champions. We just have a great coaching staff that convinces our kids that they can be champions. That’s across all sports at our school though. Matthews can’t say that to the Vidor kids because they know he would be lying.
-
Vidor can’t look for praise and rankings becusse y’all don’t do anything to deserve it. That’s where I think y’all get confused because y’all have sucked so long and lose so much? You’re confusing talking about winning games with looking for praise. I don’t think there’s a single Crosby fan on this site who needs validation for what we watch our kids do on Friday nights. Lol, the only tears that fall from my face come when I see my kids achieve their goals.
-
You think Jeff Riordan who’s taken his second different team to the semifinals or Jerry Prieto who’s been to at least the state semis two of the three years he’s been a head coach run “backyard football schemes”. Watching that slot-T has really ruined what little you probably knew about hood football. LH is the best slot-T team in the state, bar none. No deflections and absolutely no shame losing to them. Watching y’all lose so much is what makes laughing at your comments so enjoyable for me too though.
-
Yes, we’re not in the same hemisphere with Aledo or Denton Ryan. Still pretty high praise for Crosby. Vidor isn’t even on the same level as their mythical rival Nederland though.
-
Did you even see the game or know what I’m talking about? Howard was 6’3”, the Vidor DB that was trying to make the tackle was probably 5’8”. They were one on one with Howard heading out of bounds and the Vidor DB went low at Howard’s knees. He jumped over his head so he could cleanly land out of bounds and the freaking field disappeared from under him. The whole Crosby side was like “what was that that flew from under him?”. Well, it was part of the 20 yard line.
-
Yeah, in mid-December after our 31st game in two years. I was disappointed we didn’t get to play for back to back state title either. Lol, according to your theory the whole Houston/Golden Triangle region all the way up to Texarkana is “finesse” since we cleaned it out twice. The field was trash dude. Bringing up a team y’all are t even in the same hemisphere with doesn’t change that.
-
Maybe in Vidor jumping over a kids’ head is a highlight reel. We call it a QB avoiding unnecessary contact. Our QBs don’t run the slot-T, they’re not expected to look like the offensive linemen after the game is over. Lol, I’m glad you could watch us since your team wasn’t playing. I loved beating them year before and watching my son’s team play for a state championship too. It’s something I’ll never forget. Just like I’ll never forget watching my son start that semifinal game you found so funny after coming off a broken leg. By the way, I would absolutely love for you to be laughing at us in a semifinal game this year too.
-
Lol, you don’t beat undefeated state ranked playoff teams like Huntsville, Texas High and FB Marshall playing finesse football. You’re correct though, our kids don’t like to get dirty, they rarely play on grass after 6th grade. Football inevitably has injuries, but the field shouldn’t be the cause of them. When San Diego refused to play on the surface at the Astrodome in 1995 I’m sure nobody called them scared, lol.
-
He jumped over his head, landed cleanly and then his left leg slid from underneath him when a chunk of the field came up. If we weren’t playing on a surface of such poor quality a chunk of the wouldn’t have come up, therefore he doesn’t slip and the ACL doesn’t get torn. The Texans didn’t have an issue admitting they had problems with their playing surface after both Jadaveon Clowney and Wes Welker tore their ACL’s on it not too far apart. Somehow the school whose field was a mud pit does though, lol?
-
Yep. He didn’t get hurt when he did it against WOS earlier that year on our field. He slipped in the mud because of the huge crown on Vidor’s field. Remember the field was so bad that year that BH didn’t even want their band to march on it? Remember the fallout after the pics of parents picking up shoes stuck in the field were posted and their administration got heat for making condescending comments about Vidor’s stadium? I know y’all have it fixed now but starting in middle school that’s was the worst field I’ve seen Crosby kids have to play on.

No playing surface beats a well-maintained grass field. The issue is that not many high school fields in Texas are well maintained due to weather, frequent usage and budgets. In 2018 I believe Crosby was ranked #2 in the state when we went to go play in Vidor's parabolic mud pit. It was one of the best handful of teams I've ever seen at Crosby but we only had one serviceable QB in Jaiden Howard. At the end of the first quarter Howard jumped over a Vidor defender's head, landed on his feet but in the mud and tore his ACL. Crosby lost 4 of our last 5 games and missed the playoffs for the only time in the last 17 years. Vidor's grass field literally took out our starting QB and ruined our season that year. In 2015 I felt like Crosby had a state final caliber team. A big reason for that was because of our starting RB at the time which was Carlos Grace. Grace was instrumental the year before as a sophomore in our playoff run and was looking borderline unstoppable behind the o-line we had at the time. The second game of the season he had 5 carries for 99 yards in the first quarter against Angleton. On his first carry of the 2nd quarter his foot got stuck in the turf on a basic cut and he tore his ACL. Two different scenarios that ended up with the same result. I do feel like the new turf surfaces are the best for all parties involved though. It sucks to say but I think you go ahead and risk the injuries in hopes of having a more consistent playing surface throughout the year.

We're actually working on our collective as we speak. So far we've secured the grass farms and tire shops in town. We have a meeting with our local crawfish vendors next week which we're expecting to really be a game-changer. -

Looks like Crosby picked up another free agent last week. That makes it three that I know of this offseason. Running back from North Shore, receiver from GCM and now a DB from Spring. Think the DB from Spring could be a real contributor this year. If we could just get a 6'5" 275lb offensive tackle to sign with us we would be in great shape. The one we had last year will be playing on the defensive line next to our 6'3" 340lb nose tackle. -
Wrong thread

I agree there too. I was more so talking about how the coach/administration felt about the issue. I think the PNG brass is happy they got a new coach of their choosing and even though he didn't want to leave I think BF is happy to done with the headache in Mid-County. That's what I meant by both parties coming out on the plus end.
-
Coach Wiggins was a great coach. I hate it ended the way it did but much like the Faircloth situation at PNG I think both parties will come out on the plus end of things.

I think you'll see more of a dropoff in Westlake's offense after next year. If healthy I think Paxton Land is going to have a huge year since he still has Greathouse and Kubecka on the outside to win 1v1 matchups. He's definitely not the athlete Klubnick was and it's highly unlikely he possesses the accuracy but he's a big kid with a big arm and can move, he's more in the Nick Foles mold. They're still very good on the o-line and Kayser is one year older after having a good sophomore season at RB. My biggest question is can they continue this sick defensive run they've been on the last few years? I just looked and over the last 46 games they've only given up 8.5ppg which is pretty impressive considering 18 of those games were against playoff teams. I also just noticed in addition to their three consecutive titles Westlake has won 40 games in a row. No pressure for Salazar at all, I'm sure the Chap fans will give him time? We laugh about our "seven year poster" on here but you can guarantee Westlake is one place where his theory will hold water.

The genesis of the debate was whether SLC could match up with Duncanville "physically" right now. You brought up their 7 state titles which some of which were in 3A in the 90's. What the heck does that have to do with SLC's athletes today matching with Duncanville? Duncanville has played for 3 of the last 4 6A-D1 titles to SLC's one. I used Katy as an example because they've been even more successful than SLC and the same thing still applies to them regarding different teams . I never mentioned a hypothetical between Katy and Duncanville either. I used a factual example with them and North Shore which has several recent iterations that reflect the point I'm making.

Yes, the heavier, faster and more versatile route runner with bigger hands and a higher vertical is the better college prospect. Dixon also averaged more yards per catch than Herndon and is better at high-pointing the ball in contested situations. Not to mention Dixon looks likes Julio Jones while Herndon looks like Matt Jones which really isn't a slight since Matt Jones was a first round pick too. I know you're pretty naive when it comes to high school football so just as a point of reference Johntay Cook is the top receiver in the state. He's 5'11.5" 170lbs and had 806 receiving yards on 39 catches last year in 14 games. Using your logic the recruiting services and multimillion dollars staffs made a mistake and should've taken Kameren Kirkwood from Crosby since he's similar size but had 1,090 yards receiving last year? NFL scouts don't look at who had the most college receiving yards and then draft accordingly, they look at what a player did in college that could translate to the next level. Philip Beck(Blinn/La Tech) had one of the greatest receiving seasons in THSF history, 124 catches for 2,202 yards and 24 TDs. He's definitely the best high school level receiver to ever play at Crosby, with that being said you're still not going to find many Crosby fans that would take him over Singleton(Utah/UH), Patterson(New Mexico/Rice) or Netherly(LSU) today. -
I guess I'm in the minority? I liked the uniqueness and colors of the old format. This feels very "big box" like our board has fallen in line with other around the state. I'm sure it's for the best though.
