If I see smoke coming from the windows I don't have to run inside the house to tell you it's on fire. That's not how I would define good and bad reasons at all either. A "good" reason for being pushed out is poor job performance, personal conduct infractions or a rule violation like what happened to Jeff Nelson at Ozen. A "bad" reason would be because of administrative vendettas, town "politics" or the perceived notion that you should be competing at higher level when your personnel doesn't necessarily dictate that.

What exactly am I supposed to be swinging at?

Why do you say that? I don't think Alvarez is leaving after going to the semis year 1. I don't really buy into the Jasper speculation.

I think the only sure thing in 4A-D2-R3 for next year is Carthage, and that's if they don't get moved back into region II. WOS has a new coach, China Spring has a new coach plus their workhorse Major Bowden just graduated. I think there are some question marks there? Region 4 isn't going to be a cakewalk with teams like Cuero, Wimberly and Sinton who all finished ranked in the top 10 this year. Navarro is a beast over there too, knocked #8 Sinton out this year before losing in the regional final. Wimberly lost to Carthage last year in the semis but played for the title in '19 after beating Silsbee in the semis. Cuero took out Silsbee in the '18 semis and then beat Pleasant Grove for the title. If Carthage gets moved you may actually be asking to play in the harder region depending on how WOS turns out.

"Facts" are arbitrary these days, especially when you can also have "alternative facts" now. Judging from his interview where he was stating how much he loved PNG I'm sure BF's opinion on his departure is 180 degrees out from the guy that did the interview and said he left on his own accord. "Good or bad reasons" wouldn't matter, he would have to explain either one in a job interview. My first interview question to him would be, "Why are you leaving a program and community you and your family love so much to drop down and take this job if there were no issues?". If he was forced out for a "good" reason he wouldn't be getting another job as quickly as he did. If his new boss feels like he was forced out for a "bad" reason then he's probably your leading candidate and the hiring process is just a formality like it was.

I think the committee approach for the superintendent and the AD are excellent routes to go for sure. Maybe the assistant supt. also, that way you have a check on the supt.'s powers and don't end up in a situation like we did in Crosby a few years ago. There's already kind of a committee process for hiring a supt., but I would have completely different committee makeups for hiring a supt. versus hiring an AD though. I think it's tough to hire any of their subordinates that way because you're somewhat stripping them of the powers you hired them to execute? I don't think the committee should hire the girls basketball coach and then try to hold the AD responsible for the results if they suck. I think you hire those two administrators through the committee process and then allow them to build their organizations in their own effigies.

I agree in the general sense that a 100+ win coach doesn't need backing to get a job. However, if you're a 100+ win coach who has been pushed out by your current administration your new bosses are probably going to want an explanation of mitigating factors. Why would you pass up better jobs that were/are open like Pearland, Coppell, Plano East, Brenham, China Springs, Marshall, etc. for a rebuild job at SS if you're really that sought after? Now, SS may be BF's dream job and if I was the supt. I would absolutely hire him because there's probably nobody with a better resume that would apply for a job like that. I would just be very skeptical that you left on your own accord because you like our indoor facility though.

Lol, did you appreciate his entire post or just that one line? I let other BH football fans at work read your posts sometime and they find you just as entertaining as I do. Anyways, you can have it today. I'm off to the lab to try to help my "little guy" get his squat up over 500lbs before his junior season starts next year.

You're kind of reiterating what I'm saying. Every school that has a football team has those exact same costs you mentioned. I agree the overwhelming majority of schools' football programs are costing them money. What I was highlighting is that fact that those costs are more easily swallowed when programs are generating large revenue streams and that it's fine for those AD/HFC's to be compensated as such.

I know the SS job was basically a lock for BF with Riordan backing him but man, that Marshall job is open up there too right now. I didn't think Marshall was particularly well coached when we played them this past year, especially on the offensive side of the ball, but they had some legit personnel. With his offensive mindset and Marshall's talent at the skill positions I think he would've produced even better results than he did at PNG. Would've made more money, had better facilities and more talent comparable to the class than he will at SS. I know the safety of the SS job would've been tough to pass up though.

Well, we have bonds and taxes that support the local schools but I see where you're going. The teacher vs coach comparison is one that's been brought up a bunch, usually by teachers. My question back to them is "Well, how much money do you make the school?". Say you have a 10k seat stadium and a coach that's built a winning program the community supports. Say it's 65% full on average so 6500 tickets at $7 apiece. That's $45,500 in weekly ticket sales, plus add about 10k for concessions. Multiply $55,500 X 6(home playoff game included) and that's $333,000 that coach brought in that season, plus any merchandising. The AD's at some of these programs are running baby corporations on campus. Some of them are making it rain too.

There's no more money in Carthage than there is in PNG. I would say PNG is actually more well-to-do than Carthage. The difference is the Carthage community/administration chooses to pay Surratt much. So you're right, they could if they "wanted" to. The supervisor running the garage at the local refinery shouldn't be making more than the guy running your school's athletic program IMO. I think it's more of a "We used to pay this guy X amount and win, we don't need those high priced mercenaries" type situation.

I know, that's why one of the BH softball moms came and asked me about her daughter working out with my son. That's why your QB's dad just spent an hour in my office(made me miss lunch) talking ball and asking advice on what he should do with his son, because you know, I hate him. Your backup catcher's dad has come by multiple times to ask me to help him with things like PAPF issues and the recruiting process, you know, because I want him to fail. Yeah, similar as in dang near the exact percentages. Meaning y'all don't have RGV kids and they would still whip y'all the vast majority of years. Pointing out how dumb you sound saying a guy with 422 wins on the Coastal Bend got there by beating up on the RGV. Dude, he went to 12 freaking semifinal games during his time at Calallen. He DID dominate Austin as well as San Antonio. Not to mention Central Texas teams like Brenham whenever they were moved into region 4 with them. He took out a 14-0 College Station team in the semis after they hammered PNG with RJ in the third round. All RGV school are usually out in the first round so they not just "beating up on them", they made their hay in the playoffs whipping up on schools like Alamo Heights and Beorne Champion which have demographics similar to Barbers Hill.

Spring Westfield hardly loses any district games, is a certified Houston powerhouse and has 0 state championships. They pile up a bunch of wins in a district that's often suspect outside of the other Spring ISD schools. Are the Meekins brothers not great coaches? I mean, they've beat North Shore more often than anybody else in the state besides Katy recently. A bunch of those schools Calallen was beating in district play, especially when they were in 5A, would've hammered the average SETX team.

That sounds like you don't even research THSF? He's beating the kids down there WITH the kids from down there. If you put him in region 3 and give him Crosby's kids or put him in region 2 and give him South Oak Cliff's kids it's a completely different story. SMH. Coach Prieto came from CC Vets which is a great Coastal Bend program now, they haven't been to the semis out of region 4 since the school opened though. However, with Crosby's talent he was able to win region 3 in back to back years. Those Joe's absolutely matter. For most of the past 20 years you could've taken those good team down in Corpus and they would've mauled BH and most of the school around here on a regular basis. The "barrio" comment I made wasn't about the school's location itself, it was in regards to people on this board that think certain schools have fallen off because of the growth in the Hispanic population. That's literally 60% of what Danaher had to work with down there, yet he gets knocked because he couldn't beat schools like Manvel and La Marque on a regular basis who had 5X the talent he did. Guess what, the reason Calallen was playing those schools is because NOBODY IN REGION 3 BEAT THEM EITHER.

He is just the HFC/AC but I think that's a lot less stressful than what he would have to deal with being the AD at PNG. He just took Tomball to the semis even after a 4th place finish in district play and has some studs coming up. The facilities are better than PNG's and he makes more money than PNG is probably willing to pay him right now, plus he's doing it on the big stage in 6A. Dude literally got almost as far away from The Triangle as he could while still being in the Houston metro area, I doubt he's coming back before retirement which is probably 5-10 years away for him.

We'll see how the new coach works out at Cedar Park but right now as far as I'm concerned all we have to do in the D1 playoffs is get past Manvel to make another run to the dance. Over the next two years we'll definitely have the personnel to do it too.

I think if AJ plays on the d-line it's because we need him to, meaning we're "short" bodies on that side of the line of scrimmage. I think Coach Poth wants to play fast and be able to rush the passer from the interior, AJ is more of a run stuffer at this point in his development which is why you saw him play so much against Liberty Hill. I think he has potential 4-star ability at guard though, kid was moving furniture considering he was a freshman. I think Langley is going to play d-end which has been his more natural position since I've been watching him in little league. Awesome athleticism but he needs to little more of that dog mentality his brother has if he's going to be the Tyler Cooper type player we need him to be next year. I think a lot of the personnel placement will have to do with who we get in free agency this offseason too though.
