I'm not sure the UIL will take opt-ups into consideration when determining the total number of schools in the classes this year? It caused the 5A-D2 gap to be wider than they probably wanted it last realignment? One outlet I've seen has the 5A-D2 cutoff number moving to 1,934 when you take opt-ups into consideration, they still have Crosby aligned in a 5A-D1 district for mock purposes though. Probably the best looking/least questionable mock I've seen so far: Barbers Hill Crosby Friendswood Galveston Ball Baytown Lee GCM Baytown Sterling La Porte PAM It would also make sense for GB to play in district with Manvel and Angleton too. In this mock Kingwood Park goes to region two with Porter which makes a lot of sense since their districts are basically across the street from each other. The reason I said I'm not sure the UIL will take opt-ups into consideration as far as the team counts in the class is because they put this out with the opt-ups already accounted for but haven't revised the cutoffs. Research I've done looks like if the UIL is going to modify the numbers that it would be done prior to January 15th: [Hidden Content]

That's why it's hard to get good coaches to come to SETX if they're not from there, even when you combine the HFC and AD positions. Not that money is everything but you can make significantly more of it coaching at some of the multi-ISD schools and not have the administrative headaches of the AD role to deal with. I think PNG may be the only outlier? Says Foreman got a 25% raise to over six figures when he left Central for Shoemaker. He was making about the same as CT was at WOS at the time. Killeen ISD also probably has a more accelerated pay scale than the one at WOS, meaning he's probably gotten bigger raises in 5 years than CT got in 11 years. I know one of the main reasons Flannigan couldn't wait to leave Westbrook is that the guy who replaced him, Coach Riordan, was making close to $50k more than him at Crosby in 2017. I think it would be tough to get a "big name" head coach to take the job because it would mean taking a significant pay cut. [Hidden Content]

Liberty Hill vs. Crosby/ POST UPDATES HERE

Crosby has never lost a regional final game in our school’s history but I’ve been fortunate enough watch us lose in the five other rounds. I tell you what, that semifinal crying is different. You can feel that stop at Buccee’s in Madisonville within grasp. Not that I expect Crosby to be playing for a state championship every year but it was pretty surreal waking up this morning and not making hotel reservations in Dallas. -

Maybe the most sickening part of losing last night is that we only gave up 35 offensive points to the slot-T. That’s actually one of our better performances against that style offenses, yet we score 14 on a defense we should’ve easily gotten 50 on. -

The only difference is that TH had one of the best defenses Crosby has ever faced. Liberty Hill’s defense was probably on Dayton’s level. -

Crazy to think that if Jones plays he probably gets the ball 20+ times tonight and runs for 150+ and multiple tds. Seems like we struggled to find a second act. That first drive we probably would’ve handed it to him and scored instead of moving early and fumbling on a called qb keeper. That was a huge momentum killer. Would’ve been in second and short all night like we’ve been all playoffs. We literally didn’t make one “Crosby” play tonight. It just wasn’t our time and we deserved to lose. Penalties, turnovers and missed opportunities? That was the worst game we played all year. Still a great season though. I’m getting used to this December football thing. -

Crosby goes down without a fight tonight. Tough one for the community to watch us exit on. Didn’t even look like we were prepared to play. If the numbers hold firm and Crosby does move up to 5A-D1 it’s been a hell of a 10 year run. Oddly enough it was bookended by embarrassing playoff losses to the slot-T. Considering where we came from I’ll gladly take 3 regional titles and a trip to the finals. Back when the UIL split 5A I said Crosby would be one of the biggest benefactors and we were. We finished one game shy of playing all 32 this last realignment. Now we may move into the deepest division in THSF. I’m looking very forward to seeing how we respond next year. -
May have him another Tyrik Rollison if Brisbane develops as a passer. He’s probably going to win a title in the next few years and I think he’ll take one of the openings at a bigger East Texas/DFW job. Dude is proving he can win anywhere if given the players.

I think he likes being up there closer to family. Still may not be out of the question if y’all want to open up the check book though. I think Rio even talked to BF before taking the Crosby job to get his thoughts on it? One place he would probably struggle at PNG is to deal with y’all’s administration though. He doesn’t do the “politics” thing and doesn’t have any issues kicking “me” guys completely off the team no matter how good you are.

Crosby was replacing 8 starters on offense and Liberty Hill had to replace all 11 starters off last year’s team. Carthage and LBJ benefited greatly by catching us both early.
-
Crosby already plays Dayton once. They would have to play them six times in that district. The one positive is that we would be able to get a first hand look at the players in our GCCISD farm system. Probably could've gotten that receiver from Lee that just committed to Vanderbilt. Outside of playing a weaker schedule one of the biggest negatives I see is even is more hostility from the GCCISD coaches towards kids who are trying to transfer to a better situation for them.

Houston TD Club Coach of the Year

Coach Prieto acceptance speech: -
If this is how is shakes out then Crosby will be the smallest school in 5A-D1 . . . and would still be one of the favorites to win the region again with what we bring back. I would love the travel if we got moved up though. Our only game over 30 minutes away would be PAM.

Houston TD Club Coach of the Year
Cougar14.2 replied to show me the money's topic in High School Football
Oddly, Coach Riordan also won the Houston TD Club Coach of the Year award in his third season at the helm in Crosby after leading us to a 13-2 record in 2014. Here's to hoping Coach P can lead us to that 14th win this year! -
Even with him AND #20 having huge days it took Crosby falling apart with a two td lead in the fourth quarter for them to come back. Went and re-watched the game and there's a number of "simple" things that Crosby could've done to have it not finish the way it did. The main one is Crosby being up 8 points with a few minutes left and allowing LH to recover an onside kick and eventually score. To compound that Dunn fumbles at the 50 yardline on our last drive in regulation when it looks like we're about to go right back down the field and score to seal it. Coach Poth's most recent stops have been at Rudder and Marshall respectively but he's originally a South Texas guy and has seen plenty of the slot-t when he was the DC at Somerset. I think we'll be a lot better prepared this year.

These are the “official” numbers right now. The UIL will revise them later. These were the official cutoff numbers per their initial release during the last realignment. You can see the “official” cutoff is 1,899 for 5A-D2. Once they revised the numbers the cutoff moved to 1,921. [Hidden Content]

The known opt-ups are also already listed in the most updated DCTF snapshot article
-
All they did was release cutoff numbers. With Crosby only being two over the projected limit I doubt we go D1. Look at the projected cutoffs after the last snapshot numbers were in versus where they actually ended up. The projected cutoff number doesn't account for the opt-ups. Per DC's snapshot list there are 13 opt-ups to 5A-D1 and two opt-ups to 6A meaning Crosby's enrollment will be pushed down 11 spots and highly likely back into D2.

I knew what you were referring to as a "diamond". Just letting you know Coach Gaston's version of a diamond might be living on Lake Houston in Crosby vs living by the HL&P runoff on Lake Dutton in Beach City? Crosby's is always going to seem to get the better guy because we have more talent for X coach to win with. Coaches come to Crosby because they think they can win big and boost their standing in the coaching world. BH hires guys that already have a high standing but want a bigger payday, those type guys and the egos that come with them are not always the perfect fit at their new destinations. One thing that would make BH a a more favorable job than the money is the talent they're probably about to get once they build that new subdivision that's supposed to double Mont Belvieu's size when it's completed.

Neither was TC's and they scored 28 on us. Nobody is bragging about anything dude, just stating the facts. You can see more than once in the prediction thread I said TH's offense isn't that good, yet and still they were held 29 points under their season average. Appreciate you stating the obvious though.
-
I'm not near as nervous as last year. Last year I thought we had virtually no chance of stopping them, that offense was a machine. They're just not as potent this year. I also have more confidence in our new DC this year, Coach Poth would've called a shutout in a regional final if our dbs would get their heads around to the ball. I don't think we're better in the front seven than last year but I do think we have more of an advantage in general than last year. We actually did pretty well against their offense early on before they started throwing it on us which is what I would imaging they're working on this week too. On the offensive side of the ball I think our coaches are licking their chops. LH's defense isn't just bad, it's pretty awful. Their offense is their best defense. If Rouse or AH had any type of running game they would've both dropped 50+ on LH. I think Jones and Myles are going to have all types of space to run in and you can look at the passing numbers against them the last couple of weeks and see their dbs/scheme are very conducive to actually covering people. Long as we play clean I don't think LH's defense is going to have much success against us at all. Plus, time after time it's being proven that our coaching staff is better than what's across the field from them.

Just to be clear, Crosby was making the playoffs 15 years ago as one of the smallest schools in the district. BH actually won the district one year as the smallest school. There are a lot more "exceptions" to that rule than you think. Just off the top of my head I think about FB Marshall, SOC and Lucas Lovejoy. Heck, LH is growing but only had a stated enrollment of like 1,385 when they made the semis last year.
