A big part of the reason the coaches are "quality" when they're here is because of the talent. Another reason is because the administration gives them basically free reign over their staff. Flannigan learned how to coach talent while he was at Crosby but basically Jeff Fisher'd our offense and never really won the town over. He got run off after making the playoffs the last six consecutive years he was here and I think took some learnings to his next two stops relating to how that happened and avoiding it in the future. All in all though, even though he was a good upstanding Christian man he just wasn't very well liked. Riordan to me was the easiest hire we've made. You just went and got the guy whose offense was responsible for beating Dayton in a state championship game. At the time we couldn't even beat Dayton in district play. I think he also had the fastest and smoothest transition. But again, he had an NFL running back among the other boatload of talent when he got here. The talent run from 2012-2017 under Rio was sick at Crosby. We were broke and I believe we had a search committee that recommended us hiring Prieto? Similar premise to the Riordan hire though. Go find the best available offensive coordinator to fit the talent already on campus. CC Vets was down there lighting it up in the Coastal Bend under his guidance and Crosby is doing the same now. You can't just go hire head coaches and expect similar results as their previous stops. You have no idea who the coach can bring with him/who wants to come with him? Lots of times those coordinators play a huge role in the HC's success. Crosby had a similar talent level to where our past couple of coaches came from. BH doesn't have a talent level comparable to any of the places their last three coaches came from. You also have to realize what you think is a "diamond" is based on your experiences and viewpoints. Someone like Willie Gaston, who I think is the hottest coordinator on Houston, probably isn't going to see job opportunities the way you do.

Crosby vs. Texas High/Crosby wins 14-7!

It’s crazy that Texas High is 23-0 the last two years against everybody in the state except Crosby. TH had the Huntsville level defense we though we would face last year against the Hornets. -
Lovejoy is a good team but didn’t have personnel that could win matchups offensively and their defense isn’t very good at all, especially on 3rd and 4th down it wasn’t. They played 10 yards off SOC’s receivers and consistently gave up chunk plays. They don’t have a very good rb and their qb can’t get away from pressure like ours would be able to. They’re probably going to have trouble with LCP’s defense next week.

Well, we’ve waited all year to play for another state championship.

Crosby had a lot of pre-snap penalties that kept us behind the sticks on some of our drives and helped the TH defense but I can still probably count on one hand the number of defenses I’ve seen play Crosby like that. We couldn’t see y’all again until the title game with the predicted realignment but I hope we do too. I think Crosby got a lot more respect last night winning a 14-7 game than we would’ve winning 62-42 again. Nothing but respect for y’all. -
College Station vs. Denton Ryan/Post updates here

@AggiesAreWe Looks like you were right. I was going to say it after the DR vs Longview game last week but Longview scored a lot of those points late so I still wasn’t sure. It does look like it’ll be CS vs Paetow for the 5A-D1 title though. -
Lol, so you just read my posts and skip over everything else in the threads? Doesn’t make any sense, otherwise how would you know “the way I talk about Crosby on this board”?
-
Lol, you’re lying about “following the board for many years” then. Anybody that’s been on here for a month would know Crosby’s playoff history.

Looking at the Liberty Hill offensive personnel #21, who came in as a freshman last year when the FB broke his leg, has taken the place of their big stud back #42. He’s very good but he’s not at the level Blake Simpson(#42) was yet. #6 is the secondary back similar to #20 from last year who also graduated. He’s nowhere near as fast as #20 was but he’s bigger and runs more physical. They’re highly dependent on Noah Long(#21) this year and don’t look to have the balance they did last year with that senior heavy squad at the skill positions. The slot-T is our kryptonite but LH is a little smaller on the o-line than they even were last year and as dominant as our front seven was last night I’m not going to doubt their ability to handle their business. LH’s defense isn’t very good but if we have multiple pre-snap penalties and compound those with holding calls like we did against TH then we’re probably going to make their defense look better then it actually is. Rouse and Alamo Heights had great days throwing the ball against them in the last couple of rounds and don’t have near the run game the Panthers will have to defend against Crosby. We should be able to get the offense back on track this week if we play as clean as we have been before last night.

I’m just going to leave this here, hopefully I won’t need a defibrillator this year:

Man, Crosby and these two point conversions this year: -

Crosby only scores 14 points in defense of their regional title . . . and will still be playing in our 11th playoff game the last two seasons next week. *Crosby also sets a school record with 12 consecutive wins in a season. -

Just noticing on the pre-game runouts that Texas High is a lot smaller than AMC was, hopefully that benefits us tonight. -
Yep, that’s exactly why XOM is building a multi-billion facility in GP’s attendance zone that will create about 2k jobs and using local contractors to do it.

Wow, didn’t realize Coop had 16 sacks. 29 total sacks between Coop and Casey this year: [Hidden Content]

Lol, we can play defense like we did last week and be just fine against TH. TH’s offense is nowhere near the level of AMC, especially at the LOS. What are the mediocre performances against the average teams? We’ve played two one-score games in the last 11 weeks. One to BH who took out #2 FB Marshall in the area round and one to AMC who probably has the best offensive line in our class outside of SOC. Those teams are very similar and not good matchups for Crosby. Texas High is just a slightly better version of Texas City IMO. Very pedestrian on offense and try to out-athlete you on defense. AMC’s coach also has two state titles under his belt. I don’t think TH is coached at the level AMC is either, the DC looked like he had no idea what was going on last year and this year we have even more kids that can make you pay.
-
The catch by Kirkwood looks even sicker from ground level, db couldn’t have played it any better. Great defense just got beat by greater offense:
-
C-Patt also got the game-winner against La Tech Saturday, great past weekend for Crosby football.
-
Biggest instance to me was the 4th and 8 call where Coach Todd went for it in SOC’s own territory down only one point but still had like 8 mins left in the game. You punt that 10 out of 10 times but it ended up being the call that led to the game winning TD for SOC. Another thing is why did they keep putting Allen in the wildcat? It was t nearly as effective as just handing Steffens the ball, especially if you weren’t setting up play-action off of it. You run it late and he slips down putting you in 4th and short, then you send the qb under center in the most crucial situation of the season knowing there’s a good chance the exchange gets fumbled the way SOC was going to crash down at the snap. I thought SOC’s staff did a better job of getting the matchups they wanted on the outside. They literally had to pull little Allen off #11 after he beat him on that slat for a td and then again for like 50 yards on another catch. I didn’t think SOC had anybody that matchup up well with Llewelyn and Aledo’s staff never got him the ball. Obviously SOC was bigger, faster and more talented than Aledo but I thought the difference in this one was SOC looked like they had Coach Todd’s mentor, Reginald Samples, on the sideline.

I never predicted either of those teams to beat TH, and I didn’t say now that y’all beat them that they aren’t good. I said I thought y’all would get about 24 and you got 31, big whoop. I said y’all were lucky to get TC in the second round because they could score. You haven’t seen an offense as good as PNG’s since Crosby which is why they scored the most points on TH since we blasted y’all last year. LMAO😭, you dbs couldn’t cover Chance Prosperie, you think they’re going to check Kirkwood. Lol, a corner with one D1 offer? Jaylon Gilbeau has 25 offers, turn on the tape of him trying to check Kirkwood. Nobody plays press man on Crosby and not get burned. You’re talking about our o-line but we ran for 352 yards on 32 carries on TH last year, we had a tougher time running the ball on Nederland. Based on the film I’ve seen we won’t have much issue with anybody in TH’s front seven. As far as TH not having to show anything on offense, I just don’t think there’s much to show. If Stewart can’t run for 200 yards on us TH won’t move the ball much at all. Y’all’s qb struggles to make basic varsity throws and he’s not much of a threat with his legs. Just on basic comeback routes against PNG I saw him throw one and take the receiver OB, he threw one wide and threw another one into the dirt. That’s without near the pressure he’s going to see from Crosby defense.

Not related but Crosby legend Austin Walter got to the podium after he scored his first regular season TD against the Texans yesterday: [Hidden Content]

You’ve only handled our district mates because y’all didn’t play Crosby in the second round like you did last year. You saw what we did in the second round to your district mate versus what y’all did to them though. Crosby may have 35 at the half against TH? Yeah, TH’s defense is statistically 1.25ppg better than it was last year but I don’t really see anything drastically different that says they’ll be able to slow Crosby down. I actually thought the defense looked better with Clayton Smith last year, Brown plays that role now and he’s not near the player Smith was. Plus y’all still try to play that press man coverage we burned y’all in last year. Our district mates you had the success against didn’t have the personnel to take advantage of those flaws, Crosby does though. Offensively I just don’t think TH is all that great. They just scored 37 offensive points on the worst defensive team to make the playoffs from our district. Majority of those points were because PNG was taking bad run fits against that power play. QB consistently misses routine throws and I don’t see any stud playmakers on the outside. I don’t think Crosby is as physical as we were in the front seven last year but we’re faster and judging from the games I went back and watched I don’t think TH has the personnel to push us around up there like AMC did. I always say playoffs are about matchups and I think this is a much more favorable one than what we lined up with against AMC. AMC is a mirror image of BH and Crosby struggled with them too, very similar scores in those contest. We haven’t struggled with anybody else since early September though.
-
Crazy I forgot that one. Crosby was 36-7 against Texas City at the half, 50-13 after three quarters. Crosby didn’t have a lot better athletes than TH did last year, I just thought we looked a lot better coached. TH didn’t seem like they knew what to do on defense the entire night? Last year TH had an advantage on Crosby at about half the position groups on the field, this year they don’t. My shorthand analysis of this game is, ”Can the TH offense score more than the 52 points Crosby will get on their defense?”
-
Crosby gets an undefeated Texas High for a second consecutive year. Last year in the area round is was 62-28 early in the fourth quarter then Crosby got off the gas. Can the Tiger avenge the their underwhelming performance from last year? Texas High looks to be a little better on defense than they were last year and slightly less effective on offense than their previous campaign. Crosby’s defense probably isn’t what it was last year but the offense seems pretty equivalent. Does Crosby win back to back regional titles or does TH avenge last year’s drubbing? Common opponents: PNG 21 - TH 44 Marshall 12 - TH 27 PNG 28 - Crosby 69 Marshall 14 - Crosby 52

I remember earlier in the year AAW had the audacity to get on here and apologize for not getting some game threads up in time, smh. It took everything in me not to go old school 14.2 and say, “Good, these ex-prima donna welders on here deserve to have to find their own information for once.” Probably a little biased but we definitely have one of the best few moderators on the boards I’ve seen . . . and y’all know I’ve checked.
