Crosby 53 A&M Consolidated 50/Final
Cougar14.2 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Football
Excellent assessment. The only thing I don’t agree with is that “the defense did everything they could to give it away”. #15 fumbling the interception after when he could’ve just gone down and we win by 10, maybe? People were struggling with this in my section I was sitting too but what we were looking at is our defenders being blocked, we just hadn’t seen that in the 12 games prior so some of us mistook it for the defense trying to “give it away”. That was some serious personnel AMC had on the I-line last night. -
Not going to lie. I thought Bellville would give WOS a better game? Feels like the Chain Gang might get yet another shot at Gilmer’s offense if they can put two more performances together like the one they had last night.

Appreciate it Prep, had a good time at y’all’s games. We’ll clean up those boys from Texarkana for y’all next week too. They beat a couple of 12-5A teams and think that freshwater combo they got from Walmart can land these redfish. We’re about to show them what this “Salt Life” is all about though. -

No doubt we need to play cleaner, those penalties kept at least 10 points off the board and maybe even more. On the flip side TH will not be able to do what AMC did to us at the LOS though. Not to mention their offense isn’t near as good as AMC’s, although their defense may be a little better? I went down to the lower level last night on the rail and realized AMC is the same size as Manvel. I haven’t seen Crosby on the field with a team that size in our division since FB Ridge Point in 2015. I think Texas High is a waaaayyyy more favorable matchup for Crosby than AMC was. TH is basically Texas City with a better qb and rb, and not near what we just saw at the LOS. They look a lot closer to Marshall in that area. -

Crosby was up 17 points with 7 mins left after a penalty filled 3rd quarter that hindered our offense. Not to mention a drive killing penalty at the end of the first half which caused us to only go into the half up 10 points. Crosby takes the ball away from you. Outside of the teams that play in garbage district like Aledo, Liberty Hill and SOC I would imagine Crosby may have the most takeaways in all of 5A-D2? Those turnovers AMC had last night were a feature of playing the Cougars, not a bug in AMC’s offense. The three pics AMC’s qb threw last night we just part of the probably 20 ints Crosby has on the season. That fumble you’re talking about by their back was off a strip by #90 that he practices every week. I appreciate the compliment though. You know your team is starting to be seen in a different light when people start to have the audacity to question third round wins. -

Luckily there wasn’t any controversy as to whether he got in or not tonight: -

Very hard to win games at this level when you get dominated at the line of scrimmage the way Crosby was tonight. This was your Cedar Park, Elgin and Ridge Point type games Crosby would lose by 28 a few years ago. I loved the heck out of Rio for what he did for the program but right now we’re just better coached than pretty much everybody around the state and teams are finding that tough to deal with. -

Great season PNG. You finish 3rd in the district and still play until Thanksgiving. That’s salty no matter how you slice it but I think it’s especially good for y’all this year considering how bleak it looked for the Indians at different times this year. -
People keep tip toeing around it but what I saw today was Aledo get outcoached. Yeah, SOC’s athletes looked twice as good as Aledo’s but they mash teams like that by 40 on a regular basis. Jason Todd is a Reginald Samples disciple and SOC looked like Skyline-lite today. SOC’s talent level vs the rest of the 7 teams left in the 5A-D2 playoffs is unreal.
-
Dang, I didn’t realize Carthage still had half their starters out with COVID? I’m sure they would’ve won by 40.
-
King’s starting rb is injured. He played qb most of the game against Shadow Creek and is the best player in their team. #11 is the normal qb when Wembley isn’t playing qb. Catastrophic loss for King.
-
Man, CE King looks significantly bigger and more athletic than Katy all over the field. Katy’s defense on a pretty much yearly basis is unreal though. They just grind you into the dirt, and this will probably be Katy’s toughest game until they play Westlake in the semis.

PN-G 8-4 vs Texas High 11-0, Friday 6:00, Natchitoches LA
Cougar14.2 replied to NDNation's topic in High School Football
I know it’s a rivalry game but if you look at their body of work in district play the PNG game is the only outlier. They lost to all the other four teams that finished in front of them by double digits. -
I think you’re the one more than anybody in this board that felt FBM should be ranked there. All the way from defending how they schedule, which we said might effect them the way it did last year against PNG, to taking bets on them. When you’re ranked in the preseason, don’t lose and have a relatively solid body of work it’s hard to get moved down.
-
Fact of the matter is that the “football people” like Stepp think Crosby is the pick to clean out South Texas for the second consecutive year. Coming from a guy that actually has a hand in ranking the teams that speaks volumes. We need to own the expectations and show everybody we are what we tell them.

That’s crazy because they’re all on the roster except Crites who’s the only one who doesn’t have an offer. Some of them did have different numbers though. You don’t get offers if you don’t play, you don’t have to be an expert to know that. That’s recruiting 101, this is probably just a more informed board than the one you’re used to posting on. -

I don’t think there’s any issue, we just haven’t had the high end talent the past few years. We haven’t had those big X receivers like Netherly and Singleton. We haven’t had backs like Walter and Williams. We haven’t had anybody on the backend like Pickney and Perry recently. We haven’t had anybody on the o-line like Murphy and Tood since they left. We have a lot of that high end talent coming up though. -

All teams that are relatively good have fans like that, including Aledo. You can look at the Friday Football app and see exactly what I’m talking about. Those teams like Aledo, Katy, SLC, North Shore, Highland Park, etc. have a lot more of those type fans than Crosby does. Probably over half the fans in the state cheer for y’all to lose, does it really matter to y’all though? Doesn’t matter who decides to cheer for us either. -

The FBS kids still come in waves but Crosby has probably signed close to 60 kids in football alone over the last ten years. We have a recruiting coordinator who gets our kids’ film out. Everybody has Hudl accounts to help edit their film and have it sent out. They do ok across the other sports too, just signed 8 the other day including the top scorer in the state in basketball going to TCU and one of the top softball pitchers in the state going to Ole Miss. There’s probably something to the promotion part though. Looking at the film I’m completely floored how y’all’s qb has an offer to play anywhere, much less D1. He would be the 4th best qb in our district. -

Not really. They had all those same kids last year when Crosby ran through them, plus they had a kid who was almost a 5-star in Clayton Smith coming off the other edge opposite of Brown. That entire defense was a non-factor. TH hasn’t played an offense as good as PNG’s since they lost to Crosby. -

Call me crazy but the PNG team I saw beat #7 Montgomery Friday looks like they should beat #6 too? TH’s defense is solid but I think PNG can still get 40 on them, and their offense is similar to Montgomery’s but I don’t think it’s as good. A repeat performance of the area round probably gets you to December IMO. -

I think Rio gets a worse wrap than he should for some of those defenses. Our defense this year isn’t better than our ‘14 or ‘15 defense, statistically we aren’t better than ‘16 this year. We were solid on defense in ‘18 until Howard got hurt and the season fell apart. He was here seven years but ‘13 and ‘17 were the only true bad defenses. Coach Prieto hasn’t had the same elite level talent that Coach Riordan seemed to have his whole tenure here but he does have more overall team talent. I do t think there was ever a district game, blowout preventer not, where Rio could play 14 sophomores and freshmen? I do think the philosophy has changed though. Seems like the offense was more loaded up under Riordan and nobody went both ways, where as now it seems like if you can help on defense then that’s where you play first and you have to earn your way to the other side of the ball? I agree that it’s a significant improvement to not feel like you need 40 every night though.

I really wasn’t on the “Crosby should win big train” but watching the film from y’all’s game I feel a lot more confident. BH o-line put on a clinic against AMC. BH’s d-line was walking AMC’s o-line backward snap after snap. I see why BH was an epileptic team this year. The only reason they lost to AMC is because they don’t know how to win those games yet. I was throwing shade at y’all throughout the year regarding Abseck and ultimately when you’re then man you’re responsible. Watching the game though it was coached more than well enough for BH to win it by multiple scores. Players have to make the plays though, I see what BHFan was saying a few weeks ago.
