Crosby 69 Port Neches-Groves 28/Final
Cougar14.2 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Football
I actually thought BF had a great gameplan. Move the pocket and try to take advantage of the pass plays we struggled to cover on film. Hit us on the second play of the game for a TD. Us armchair qbs thought PNG should try to run the ball and eat clock. In actuality though the way PNG was getting beat at the LOS if they tried to run Trahan from the beginning of the game they might not have scored in the first half. They just would’ve ended up in 2nd and 3rd and long a lot more. BF outcoached us armchair guys. The game was always going to be about Crippen being able to make enough plays to keep PNG in it and he couldn’t. He can only do so much though. As far as the talent pool, you’re spot on. It’s something I’ve been saying for the last few years now. The suburban schools like Crosby and BH with growing enrollments just have bigger talent pools to choose from right now. -

BF is limited by his personnel. If the PNG faithful can’t see that after last night then they’re probably the ones with the issue, not BF. He could’ve ran anything outside of the slot-t and it would’ve been similar results. One of the moms last night asked one of the other fans in the stands, “Somebody said this is the team that beat Barbers Hill?”. Guy says, “Yeah, it is”. Woman turns to her friend and says, “IDK, maybe they were using different players?” She was DAS too😭 -
This is exactly what I think will happen. The only thing I will point out is that in your scenario PNG and Ned couldn’t tie for 4th place because Ned has the head to head. If BH and TC both finish 5-2, Ned and PNG finish 4-3 then Ned gets in. PNG gets ready for baseball season.

The 132 combined points is what’s Impressive to me. It’s hard for offenses to be that efficient even in practice. It looked like 5A-D1 teams against 5A-D2 teams. -
I see Vidor getting love two weeks in a row on High School Scoreboard. Doesn’t matter if y’all are ranked, Matthews just did an interview with Tepper and Way for everybody in the state to see so you’re not being slighted or going to sneak up on anybody. If I was a Vidor fan I would be more worried about how you potentially play pass defense against those teams that are in the top ten and what you’re going to do at the line of scrimmage in regards to that East Texas district before you even get there.

IDK how to get the Golden Triangle stats? I usually have to wait until Crosby’s coaches load them Sunday or Monday to see ours. The PNG people probably have them already though. -
Barbers Hill 66 Nederland 28/Final

Smh, used to be a WOSGrad question😢 I’m pretty sure it does though, which is why I said TC needs to beat PNG for y’all and take the -14 BH would have out of play. I’m not sure if we cap out at +17 or +21 for an individual game for the first tie-breaker though? -

I was on Montgomery before the beginning of the season. They dropped 52 on us last year. Matchup wise they’re better for BH because their defense isn’t as good as TH’s. -
Barbers Hill 66 Nederland 28/Final

Not going to lie. @Barbers Hill, @PNG and @Nederland all in one year. I would’ve never predicted it but I had us down for an L in one of those games and co-champs with y’all or Ned. Very proud of this young team. BH keeps playing like y’all did last night and you might have a chance against Texas High. -

I didn’t understand that? PNG couldn’t really generate any offense outside of #18 but I think he only touched it four or five times, scored on two of them. I don’t even think Trahan had 30 rushing yards? You can see the difference in the way the teams are coached with how many different way Crosby’s staff gets the ball in their playmakers hands. The efficiency the offense is operating at right now is crazy. -

I think it’s more of Ned’s offense, remember TC shut them out. I think y’all’s defense is probably going to look good against TC too but it’s really because their offense is basic. On another note, thank you to The Hill for handling your business last night!!! -

Man, IDK? Depending on which BH team shows up I can see them not having trouble with TC but I don’t think that’s the case for PNG? TC’s defense is legit and that PNG offense I saw last night would have trouble breaking double digits on it IMO. BH can win out and finish 2nd if TC beats PNG for them next week. The crazy part is that the draw to get to the 3rd round is probably easier if you finish 3rd this year. You would draw Montgomery instead of Texas High in the second round🤔 -

Would NEVER go to The Hill. That “We can, we will” stuff might start rubbing off on me and make me feel like I’m part of their cult. -

Lots of returners but losing Kirkwood, Jones, Casey, three more studs from the front seven and a couple of linemen. Next year is the year we were supposed to be this type of good though, and I’ll just leave it at that. -

And he puts it on the ground at the end of the game while we’re about to score our 10th TD of the night🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ Sorry Cougar fans, the 14.2 household kept y’all from seeing 75 dropped on PNG at The Reservation🤬 -

Mid-County down by a combined 59 points to 1942 at the half. -

Man, we drop that interception and PNG scores a couple plays later. Hate the starters gave up that extra TD. -
I can’t remember a time two schools west of the Trinity played in Mid-County the same night? All the Cougar fans will be pulling for our brethren down 1942 tonight. Go do that “we can, we will” stuff in Nederland tonight.
-
Good luck tonight to The Hill. We need y’all to take care of business tonight and help win us a district championship.
-
I think TradenUp said it was something like 1,971 on the first day? I’m just looking at enrollments from the 2019 snapshot and projecting based on trends.
-
5A-D1 cutoff is already at 2,211 and probably going up
-
I don’t think Crosby is. If the cutoff moves to something north of 1970, which looks probable based on the short history of us having classes, then BH probably isn’t going to make it this go around. We’ll both be well over it for sure next time though.
-
Crazy, I was just doing the same thing. It’s hard to nail it down exactly because of the opt-ups but the 5A-D2 enrollment cap moved about 60 kids from 2018 to 2020. If it goes up by a similar margin again I think we stay D2. I was doing the math in our growth percentages a little while ago and predicted us at 1,931.

#10 Hightower at #9 Paetow 5A D1/PAETOW WINS 55-7
Cougar14.2 replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Football
Paetow would be the third “new” Houston school to play for a 5A-D1 state championship by their 4th varsity season in the last seven years. George Ranch did it in ‘15, Shadow Creek did it in ‘18 and ‘19. Look out for Katy Jordan coming through 5A after Paetow moves up to 6A next year. I haven’t looked at KJ’s attendance zone but if they’re naming the school after Barbra Jordan I’d imagine they’re probably going to look a lot like Paetow. -

I don’t think College Station could score 17 points on Denton Ryan’s starters? They were down 52-7 after three quarters last year and came in averaging over 50ppg. DR’s offense isn’t as good this year but the defense is probably better. CS is going to also have to get past a very good Lone Star team in the area round before they even get DR in the regional final. I think DR goes back to back though. I think Manvel just had an off night offensively in the Hightower game. Manvel matches up a lot better at the line of scrimmage with Paetow than FBH does though. If Paetow doesn’t get stops against the run game early I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them get beat. Manvel’s defense is just as good as Paetow’s too.
