Crazy what you find out if you actually watch film. Surratt had an interview with the local paper and said the same thing. Now per the people not from Carthage they were missing 11 starters. Lol, after we smoke TC it will be 15 starter were missing from Carthage and the worst Manvel team ever that we got to play.
-
Well I guess Ned should be 4-2 since the WOS game got called early? We beat KP and Dayton by 85 combined points, let's see if anybody else can do similar numbers against them? Nobody on Manvel's schedule besides Hightower has held them to only 28 offensive points this year, nobody outside of Dickinson has scored 21 or more on them. They would probably beat every other team in this district by 28+ right now. Nobody on Carthage's schedule has held them to 20 offensive points and nobody has scored 24 on them besides Crosby. Nobody on PAM's schedule has held them to 20 offensive points and nobody has scored 40+ on them besides Crosby. TC opponents combined record is 13-23, it was 8-22 before they played Nederland which is the only team over .500 they've beaten. That's more of an indictment on Ned versus how good TC is. TC hasn't scored over 35 points on anybody not named Santa Fe or KP and is averaging 39ppg in district play so far, Crosby has dropped 40+ their last four outings and is averaging 57ppg through district play so far. IDK what you've seen either, but obviously it isn't Crosby playing.
-
TC ran 58 plays, got 204 total yards and scored 14 points, PNG and Silsbee scored twice as much on Nederland. TC plays offense like that against teams that can score they might lose three out of four down the stretch. Ned needed to come back in both of those games too, luck just caught up with them against TC. All TC showed against Ned is that if they can't run the ball consistently then their QB, who went 10-25, can't beat you. Ned struggles to defend the pass and Dayton is the most prolific passing team in the district, Broncos have the leading QB and receiver. I think they're going to score around 35 points on Nederland and coach Ware is probably going to model a lot of what TC did on defense. After seeing Ned struggle to move the ball on 0-6 Santa Fe and then getting shut out by TC, unless Dayton turns if over it just doesn't fee like they'll score enough points to win this one.

I love it. I have all kind of material I’ve been saving in case they got good when they hired their first state championship coach 12 years ago. I almost feel bad they have to pay all that money just to watch them get out-coached.
-
I didn’t make any excuses for the loss. I said they beat us straight up. YOU brought up “if Carthage this” to help try to make your point Crosby isn’t as good, not me. I just responded in kind. You literally don’t have a single data point to make your argument beside BH played Crosby close which is why I say leave the emotion out. Not a single one. Yes BH would’ve still lost with those kids, they weren’t winning WITH them.
-
Listen to what you’re saying though? It was a fluke because Crosby won two OT during that run, that makes us 3-0 in our last three OT games. Sounds more like a pattern to me. Two years in a row we score the most points Huntsville gives up all season, it wasn’t a fluke we were in position for our all-state kicker to close the show. Crosby dropped 62 on LH, they needed an onside kick and a late Dunn fumble while we’re trying to go up 3tds to even get to the OT. Aledo had to score 24 points in the 4th quarter of the regional final against Lovejoy to come back and win by 4. They also didn’t have to play 4 of the top 7 teams in the first five rounds to get there, so no they didn’t get there like us. They beat 15-1 FB Marshall worse the first time they played them though. Like they say, luck happens when preparation meets opportunity. Guess we’ll see how much of a fluke this year is?
-
What I gather is that it was a fluke because we hadn’t won the region in six years? Even though we’re winning by wider margins than last year it’s only because PAM, Dayton, BH and KP aren’t as good as last year. Even though Myles was hobbled he should’ve looked great against Carthage in his first career start. I think he thinks we’re worse than last year because Manvel beat the finals team by twice as much, but this year’s Manvel team isn’t as good?(which would make sense why they beat us by less and may finish 3rd) Never mind the fact that we're a td better in point differential against a tougher schedule vs where we were at this time last year.
-
If you talk about the o-line from Carthage then you have to talk about Myles limping around and us having to rotate in a backup, who’s not even the backup now, the entire second half. Still they needed a kick return late to win by a fg. They “snuck” by because they have 8 state championships and know how to win those kind of games. Great game by them, they beat us straight up. They played a cover three defense against Crosby that I had never really seen played on the high school level. Last year in the opener we played 6A George Ranch with a healthy Dunn and Branch and lost by 7. Manvel beat Crosby by 33 points last year and did have a better team than they do now which exactly why we had a chance to beat them this year. While we’re about to go into the half up 10-7 we roll than snap back and then kick it into the back of our lineman and it bounces right into a Manvel player’s hands and he returns it and we go into the half down 14-7. I have never seen Crosby do that. Manvel’s run game is sick, we held up very well against them all night outside of one 75 yard run Seymour had. Great night from the defense holding them to 28 points, they just beat Angleton 49-10 last week. Angleton only lost by 2 points to FB Hightower the week before. On the back end we miss three WIDE open td passes that game, and I’ll move on from that. Against PAM we give up a td on the opening kick but the defense only gave up 20 that night. Third game last year Montgomery scored 52 on us and they were not as good as the PAM team we lined up against this year, and would probably lose to them by double digits this year. Think about it, at this time last year we had 0 impressive wins? You kind of cross-thread your argument when you say Crosby isn’t as good as last year but neither is anybody else🤔 You can say we’re not as good but think about what you would’ve said if I told you we were going to play for a state title at this time last year? Lol, we were “average” all the way until the third round last year. Your reasoning is that you think the 5 great games Crosby played to get to the finals last year were fluke but the BH game this year wasn’t?
-
I remember y’all getting shut out 49-0 last year by FB Marshall and Crosby dropping 37 and beating them 9 points the very next week. That’s was only six games ago.
-
The way the region is looking this year I think there’s a good chance Crosby is a 1st place district finish and third round win against FB Marshall away from playing for another state championship. This time last year we were still trying to figure out personnel, we’re not this year. If you take all the emotion out of it you would say Crosby looks better this year though six games than they did last year. Larger point differential, defense is giving up 2.5ppg more but offense is scoring 8.3ppg more and for what it’s worth Maxpreps said we’ve done it against a tougher strength of schedule to date. Manvel dropped 53 and Montgomery dropped 52 on us the last two games before district play last year but it helped us figure out the defensive adjustments we needed to make moving forward. BH was that high scoring team this year. To answer your question though; I think if Crosby keeps improving this game that they shouldn’t have much trouble dispatching a team like TC.
-
So Santa Fe’s defense is good too? They held Ned to 7 first half points? The BH game was a fluke, you can see from the rest of the scores on our schedule compared to y’all’s against common opponents. Just like Ned beating Crosby last year in the season finale, it’s one outlier against a pretty consistent body of work. IDK what film you watched but I just watched the cut-ups from the Nederland game and TC does not have a good d-line. Ned did nothing from the rb position when they could’ve killed them with the stretch play, Jones will. QB missed or didn’t see wide open receivers and some of the passes he did make were some simple check down type routes when he had receivers in position to make bigger plays. The corners are good but they play man coverage so their backs are always turned. Some many times that game if Ned’s QB would’ve made a quicker decision he had 10’s of yards of running room, Myles will get that. TC doesn’t have a coach like Carthage or personnel like Manvel and is playing against a better offense than both of them did so I doubt they’ll hold us to similar numbers as those two. Think what you would be saying about PAM’s defense right now had they not played Crosby, they would only be giving up 8.4ppg in their other contest.
-
Nederland had only scored 17 points on Santa Fe after three quarters, only had 7 at the half. Dayton and South Houston beat Santa Fe worse than y’all did. I wouldn’t really use their offense as a measuring stick for TC’s defense. Watching that game Josh Maczyk could’ve beaten TC by himself. Ned and Crosby’s offensive personnel are night and day.
-
Lol, you remember they said the same thing last year about Texas High? Came in 11-0 and only giving up 13ppg, then Crosby dropped 62 on them. Those defensive numbers have a lot to do with the offenses you play. Last year we went to TC and were up 41-0 at halftime and played subs the rest of the game which made the 41-6 score look closer than the game actually was, and that was with a team averaging 38ppg through their first three district games. This year’s team is averaging 58ppg over that same stretch.
-
FB Marshall could play Alief Taylor, FB Ridge Point, Dawson, Shadow Creek, George Ranch, etc. With an enrollment of only like 1,300 I think coach Williams chooses to play a soft schedule in hopes of keep his guys healthy for the playoffs. Most starters only play two quarters during the regular season. He really ain't looking for that kind of smoke in non-district play though.
-
That one dimension is awful good though, plus all of Foster's offense graduated. Outside of the two HISD schools on their schedule they're only averaging 16 points per game, including a loss to 2-4 Lamar Con. The Hightower defense that stifled Manvel is just good. Hightower has already beat Manvel, Angleton and Foster and is only allowing 12.2 points per game and that's with Westfield dropping 38 on them. I think you're going to see Manvel, Paetow and Hightower all three rounds deep.
-
North Shore lost to an unranked Westfield at the time and doesn't have really have any great wins on their schedule to date. Atascocita went on the road and beat a top 5 ranked Allen and their loss was on the road to a top 5 ranked Guyer.
-
As of today I would say: 1. FB Marshall 2 Crosby 3. Montgomery 4. A&M-Con. 5. Texas High It’s hard to get a feel for FB Marshall this year because of their schedule. Their offense is kind of weird this year because their qb is also their leading rusher. I’ve been on Montgomery since the beginning of the year. They have all the offensive weapons, I’m just not sure about their defense?
-
Yep, problem is that they’ve been looking for that consistency the last 60 years. Crosby seems to find it most years.
-
Lol, if that was really the case then Vidor would’ve finished 1st in front of Crosby instead of 5th three spots behind them. Their seniors would’ve had memories of an area round shootout with Huntsville instead of a regular season win over a .500 team.
-
If you're 35 or younger then you probably played on a playoff team every year you went to Crosby except '18. Senior year sucked but junior year went 10-2, undefeated district champs and lost to La Marque in the dome in the second round. Ran for over 1,000 yards, was first team all-district and signed D1. Since you asked though? VHS wasn't as easy to make highlights on back in the day but my son did find this technicolor footage on Youtube while searching for some film of the old man. Dropped over 250 yards on Dickinson in this one but all you need watch is the first play from scrimmage to answer your question:
-
Lol, Vidor's shrinking population will have them in 4A-D2 before long and this is almost surely Crosby's last go around in 5A-D2. Only slot-T team we will possibly be facing from here on out is Liberty Hill in the semifinals. The time Vidor beat Crosby in district play they STILL finished in 5th place. That just goes to show easy it is to get up for one game against Crosby, but how hard it is to have to bring it every week like we do.
-
Foster and Angleton are going to play for that last playoff spot and I think PAM will ultimately get Angleton in the first round. I think it's going to be a tough matchup for PAM though. I know they're running through their district as usual but I think when they line back up against a formidable opponent they're going to have trouble scoring. They don't run the ball consistently enough and rely too much on the big play. Plus the seem very susceptible to being outcoached.
-
I think the question probably needs to be, "Why is Crosby trolling BH?". My answer would be to look at all the Crosby threads BH fans commented on prior to them collapsing against us. Y'all say all week it's because of one call but then lose by 14 the very next game? I don't think Crosby is "gloating" at all, I think it's more of a flat out ridicule. BH is the guy at the job that shows up bragging about his new truck Thursday but comes back to work with whiskey dents in it on Monday. The back and forth banter is nothing different than it used to be with Crosby and Dayton except the BH fans don't really have any ammunition to fire back like the Dayton fans did. I have a lot of BH friends at work so I actually like to see them do well, if for no other reason than the success of their kids. There we multiple BH fans in my department that drove up to Arlington to support Crosby in the state title game which I though was pretty awesome.
-
I think Dayton pulls this one out at home. Broncos will be playing with nothing to lose in hopes of keeping their season alive and Ned will be on the road in what’s basically a must win situation. Dayton is coming off a confidence builder while Ned is coming off a game in which they were shut out offensively. We can point to the TC defense it they’ve given up more points to other teams on their schedule and none of them are over .500. I think Dayton scores enough to take advantage of the issues Ned is having on offense and gets their biggest district win since they beat New Caney in ‘15.

Humble Summer Creek Bulldogs at Galena Park North Shore Mustangs
Cougar14.2 replied to lcm93's topic in High School Football
North Shore seems to have figured out their backfield situation and the defense is settling in. I think Katy might be the only team that can stop them from a semifinal matchup with Lake Travis and I’m not sure Katy is going D1 this year? Katy goes D1 and it might be CE King that goes five deep and gets the pleasure of getting beat down by Westlake in the semis.
