  1. I get accused of hating so I was trying to be generous
  2. Come on bro. Just be glad Myles was cramping and limping around the whole second half. Carthage MAY have had 50 total rushing yards tonight, kid I saw running it in that Lindale scrimmage wouldn’t have made much of a difference.
  3. Both coaches were coaching to win the game. Surratt was going for it on 4th down from his own 35 yardline and instead of taking the three at the end of the first half Prieto went for it on 4th and we had an open drop. There’s always going to be the question what happens if we take the FG now but the fact still remains of the Crosby receiver makes the routine play we’re probably having a different discussion You give up a freaking kickoff return for a td at the end of the game. If the Crosby kickoff guys stay in their lanes we’re probably having a different discussion. Our qb just flat out missed, as in didn’t even see, guys behind the Carthage coverage twice. That’s not coaching. Maybe you can say Carthage double-teaming Casey which slowed him down, and us deciding to continue to single cover Hatten which allowed him to carry Carthage was a coaching, but again if the dbs get their heads around we probably get s couple more picks and are having a different discussion. Crosby’s defense outplayed Carthage’s, Carthage’s offense outplayed Crosby’s, and Carthage made one special teams play Crosby didn’t. Crosby lost the game in the third phase but all three count on the scoreboard. You take your L and try to improve. I will say it’s not disappointing to see where we’re were tonight and know we still have vast room for improvement.
  4. Great game. Carthage made one more play than we did. Tough one to lose right there.
  5. Lol, the kid that burned y’all on the screen for the td was the first leg. Just be glad y’all got Hatten, otherwise y’all would’ve just been shut out this half.
  6. Highland Park vs a bigger but less wealthy version of Highland Park. I’ll take the poor kids. Will be interesting to see the difference at the line of scrimmage.
  7. We’re the champs until someone else gets to stand at the top of the podium. I promise you that you won’t be able to tell the difference though. The majority of schools that play us on a regular basis probably thought some of our other teams were faster/more athletic than the one we put one the field last year. We’ll probably look even more athletic with the jv kids out there.
  8. Exactly. I’m not even sure those were the four fastest kids we had, they were just the four football players that decided to run track in the offseason. I think Surratt highlighted that when he said after watching the Angleton scrimmage the first thing that popped out to him was that “. . . they’re very, very fast.”
  9. My co-worker’s son is the backup qb for BH so I got to see some of the scrimmage film vs La Porte. The o-line has a better chance of holding up than the d-line against KP but Hagler has been off ever since he hurt his ankle against Manvel a couple of years ago. I didn’t even think he was BH’s best rb last year. If they’re going to win or have a chance to, those big receivers I saw have to make some plays like they were doing in that scrimmage. That’s why I was pointing out the need to keep Holdren upright. Doesn’t matter what the receivers can do if the qb is on his back. Idk about their linemen situation but next year with some of their young skill guys being older they could be pretty salty. Those improvements might get cancelled out with the move up in divisions though.
  10. 3 of them. 2nd, 3rd and 4th leg. If those kids were fast enough to walk off on FB Marshall and Longview, what do you think we’re pulling off the shelf? Like Coach Surratt said, we’ll still be the fastest team y’all face all year.
  11. Hate to hear that. If Crosby wins I want it to be because it was good on good. Even though Chris Marshall did multiple dumb things to get himself ejected from the regional final game it still somewhat bothers me that he wasn't on the field when we beat them.
  12. Paetow is definitely getable, mainly because their QB can't really beat you. He has some offers but he looks a lot better getting off the bus than he actually plays. The 21 points they scored on y'all last year might not be a lot more this year but if all KP has to do is turn around and hand it off because the BH d-line can't hold up then game over. That's why you pay the coach the money though. Abseck's defensive staff has to put a scheme together that can cover for some of the personnel complications BH is going to be up against. Even if they get that handled the issue then switches to how BH scores against them? As bad as it sounds and as crappy of a coaching debut it would be for him, if I'm Abseck and watching Holdren get killed because he's holding the ball due to his receivers not being able to get off coverage I would give a hard thought to shutting him down early. More than that loss would hurt to start the season, losing him would probably wreck BH's season. I think Vype has him as the preseason offensive MVP in the district.
  13. IDK, looking at Carthage's schedule the last five years I don't see any 5A's y'all have played that have state championship 4x100 speed. Crosby is going to be seeing multiple players of Lewis' caliber the next two weeks against Manvel and Port Arthur Memorial.
  14. Heard the same thing from Texas High fans in regards to Clayton Smith who was a lot higher ranked than Lewis and had exponentially better film than he does to this point. I don't remember him really doing anything of consequence. Lewis is a lot closer to what Crosby saw out of current UT commit Derrick Brown. Lewis is the same size as our starting running back, we have had trouble with smaller backers like Brian Johnson at Manvel but 90% of the plays I'm watching Lewis make are because he's clean. That won't be the case with Crosby.
  15. We can always be bigger in the trenches which is what I think you’re actually alluding to but pound for pound you’re not going to find many schools in all of 5A that can match Crosby in the weight room. Our average squat on the offensive line last year was right around 500lbs. Before we started winning a couple of games we used to be a punchline in the area because we would walk in and dominate a 6A meet but couldn’t get it to relate to the field. I’ve seen multiple linemen squat over 600+lbs at Crosby. We even had a kid on the d-line a couple of years ago what was approaching 800lbs. The kids in the trenches at Spring Westfield, which produces kids like Ed Oliver and Keondre Couburn, are stronger and more athletic than the kids in the trenches at Katy. Every now and then Katy lands a Malick Sylla but in a normal year Westfield has them. Katy would line up and run for 350 yards on Westfield though. Not because they’re stronger but because they have a tougher to defend scheme and execute it with perfection. Katy can also match them size-wise which would negate some of the athletic advantage. Katy would never ever beat North Shore and Duncanville would’ve dominated SLC of strength was a huge factor.
  16. Lol, I'm sure if they had their 3,000 yard/50td running back from last season it would've been a different story. Looking at y'alls schedule from last year he would've been the highest rated player Carthage faced per the composite rankings.
  17. Highlight of a couple runs from one of Paetow’s RBs vs Cy-Springs: [Hidden Content] It’s only one play but look at the overall size of Paetow’s defense this year. Definitely look like they have 3,000+ kids in their school: [Hidden Content]
  18. Weight room has never been our issue, we may have just won our first 4x100 title but we have had a bunch of individual powerlifting champions and state finalist over the years. O-line paved the way for 3,400 rushing yards last year. Of our playoff opponents Huntsville is really the only one that shut down Crosby's running game. We had 35 carries for only 90 yards against them. Texas high we had 32/352, 42/284 against FB Marshall and 28/237 against Aledo. The question is can Crosby's offensive staff beat some of the defensive schemes that slowed us down last year?
  19. Yes, that's why they play in a 5A district but they currently have 6A enrollment. In December 2020 Katy ISD released a study on their projected growth and the need for new schools. The 2021 projected enrollment at Paetow high school was 3,235 kids, said they're going to fall about 3.2% short of that. Without a new school Paetow's 2025 enrollment projection of 5,423 would be the largest in Katy ISD.
  20. I’m wondering if they know Google works outside of Carthage? I guess because they win a lot other fan bases don’t really research their claims.
  21. I saw them, they’re impressive against 4A squads. It’s different when those d-linemen have to chase a QB that can embarrass them and those DBs have to check some of the fastest 5A players in the state. Not overly concerned about what you bring back and if the linebacker you’re talking about is Kip Lewis he’s not even close to a 5 star. Crosby dropped 62 on Texas High who had two 4 star line backers, one of which was actually almost a 5 star. Clayton Smith finished #38 overall and three spots out of 5 star designation, Lewis is #259 overall and 228 spots out of 5 star designation.
  22. I mean, the question is if Barbers Hill can beat a 6A squad from Katy ISD with a new coach and no offseason? Probably not even in normal years but it’s going to be an even tougher task this year. I was just looking at some highlights from KP’s starting running back in their scrimmage with Cy-Springs and they were making it look pretty easy out there. Cy-Springs is the worst team in Cy-Fair ISD though. Idk how good their receivers are but their qb from last year is back and that o-line looks huge outside of the center. RB looks pretty big too. BH probably has the most experienced QB in the district but I think all four kids in the secondary for Paetow have D1 offers? Passing game is going to be pretty much negated. I see they have a d-linemen that has a couple offers also. Their defense is why I made the comment about challenging for the region. Might as well play them now, BH will be playing teams like them next year involuntarily.
  23. And if we kick y'alls teeth in, then what? We go to Manvel the next week and they laugh saying, "You thought those guys would get you ready for us?" Y'all would rather lose to Crosby instead of PG too, right? Pretty elementary logic there.
  24. I think he could get some run later in the year, especially if we start blowing people out. Pass pro is always brutal for the young backs though and usually keeps them off the field early. If we were forced to play him I think he could be effective right now as a freshman though. I think the first ones to contribute from that freshman class are probably going to be Windfont and whoever that other kid was coming off the edge that they moved up to scrimmage with varsity. Windfont would probably already be out there if our edge guys weren't 6-3/220. Not sure he's big enough/experienced enough to play in the middle yet.
  25. That's because there's really no value for the larger team playing down. If Crosby beats Carthage the narrative will be, "They're the bigger school, they're supposed to win". Carthage wins it will be, "I told y'all we could play with teams in 5A". How at all does that benefit Crosby? I'd much rather play a George Ranch type opponent like we did in the opener last year. I'm sure the Longview, Lone Star, Ennis and Highland Parks of the world would love to beat Carthage's head in on a regular basis but there's absolutely zero value in it.
