Crosby needs this game. Feels like they're ready to come out and make a statement against Carthage.
-
I gave FB Marshall the nod in the region because I think their new QB Ja'Kobe Banks is going to be a star. After last night I'm going to change my opinion and say I don't think he'll be better than Cyrin Myles. He has the Jaiden Howard-level arm strength, Aston Walter running ability and last night he showed Tristen Cotton-level decision making ability. If that's the level o-line play we're going to get Myles might end up having a 2500/1000 season. It does help to have receivers who will catch the ball and finish like ours though. I said before the scrimmage that we need to show we could run the ball from the rb position and we certainly did that. One of the backs you saw, the one with the white pants, was actually a freshman. He's one of the freshman I mentioned possibly getting moved up in the district prediction thread. That defense is legit, definitely ahead of where they were last year at this time. Doesn't look like a dropoff at all in overall talent on that side of the ball. Once the staff gets the secondary together you can go ahead and send us FB Marshall.

Huntsville brings back two on defense and neither one of their names is Bobino. They do bring back 8 on offense but their offense really wasn’t that great. May be a lot better this year though? I’m almost more concerned with A&M Con. having a bounce back year or Montgomery finding a defense.
-
Rankings really mean nothing, especially in the preseason, but I’m interested to see how the 11 teams ranked ahead of Crosby look? Crosby’s average margin of victory in district play heading into the Nederland contest was 40ppg last year. Unless the the district has gotten a lot better I don’t expect anybody to stay within at least two or three scores of this year’s team either. It’s Crosby and FB Marshall for the region, somebody is going to have to show me something different.
-
14-7 Crosby in a little over a quarter of love action. Crosby gave up a td on a busted coverage. Twos in now.
-
Crosby probably had about 200 yards worth of deep balls and I think only one incompletion on passes over 20 yards in the controlled portion.
-
You’re correct. Casey is definitely playing in the center. Angleton has nothing for him so far.
-
3-1 Crosby with 1s in during controlled portion. Two fumble recoveries by Crosby defense.
-
Side note: Looks like Carthage has cancelled their scrimmage with Kilgore scheduled for tomorrow due to COVID issues. Maybe that's a good thing for Crosby with them getting less reps, maybe it's a bad thing because that's less film Crosby's staff would have?
-
Long as he's healthy I expect him to have another all-state year. I think we'll get a better feel tonight about how they're going to use him. In the scrimmage and practices I saw last week he looked to be playing more of a 5 technique. May have been a new alignment or some sort of experiment for the new defensive staff? It did look like we have at least one more solid piece to go with him up front though. I like what we have at the second level of the defense too. In general I agree with you though, as long as we get the secondary right we have a good shot at having a very good defense.
-
Unless Angelton's QB live I don't think we're going to be able to take a whole lot from this scrimmage. They're a run heavy offense and the QB is a big part of that. If he's no threat to run I think it's going to make the Wildcat passing game easier to defend, and he only had a 42% completion rate for the 7 games worth of stats I see from last year. Defensive backs should still be able to get some good work though. Angleton is always big and fast but they have a new head coach since last time we played them and run more of they standard spread style offense now. That counter toss they used to run was legendary so I'm glad Crosby won't have to defend it. I do think their newer style of offense is more beneficial for Crosby to scrimmage against though, pretty much the same offense we'll see from Carthage next week. On the personnel side of things per DC's they bring back five starters on offense and one on defense. I didn't see any notable prospects which is surprising for them. Tells me their prospects are just young, they're definitely there though. QB was playing receiver at some point last year, looks like in the final game against FB Kempner. Not sure if that was because of injuries, the Covid issues they had or poor play? I think they three biggest takeaways from this exhibition are going to be how we look at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, how well we play against the run and how our receivers look against their dbs? We also need to be able to run the ball from the running back position which seems like an oddity considering the long line of backs we've had at Crosby.

Lol, I most certainly will👍🏾

Throwback: Lincoln vs Dayton bi-district game 1999
Cougar14.2 replied to wbfan's topic in High School Football
This is the last year Crosby beat Dayton before Dayton decided Crosby would be their female dog for the next decade. Thankfully we should have the favor returned in '22. On another note, it's pretty amazing how we used to be able to play with our chin strap touching our shoulder pads. -
What do you quantify as "hate"? Someone with an opinion who doesn't agree? When I was telling the SC fans they were going to get killed moving up into North Shore's district not a single soul on here said I was hating, and they were 20-0 the two regular seasons they spent in our district. I wonder what the difference is? I could see if what I was saying wasn't based in fact, but that's not the case.
-
You're basing something off what MIGHT happen. Little Elm is in the district with Allen RIGHT NOW with nearly 5,000 less kids. That's not how things "were". That's what it is without the speculation. There's nothing to get over. Highlighting that they hired a coach who was supposed to the best in Texas at the time and still were finishing third is a rant, lol? That statement was made to show that even with a great coach at your current talent level those were the results in 5A-D2. Meaning, I don't care if you add 900 kids to reach SC's enrollment, you're still going to be at a significant talent disadvantage when you move up. Lol, imagine how idiotic the premise is that Abseck was a better coach than TW 5 years ago when he took the job? Abseck had been a head coach for one year at the time. Since then he's lost in the 2nd round once, the 3rd round three times and was blown out by 45 points against Denton Ryan in the title game last year. Now the guy with one ring from a team that was handed to him is "a much better coach"? There's probably not another football coach in Texas that isn't on Abseck's staff that agrees with you. As far as BH living in my head, trust me, I would rather be going back and forth with LilTex and BroncoPride who actually knew/know football. Our rival is down right now though and as such focus switches to other teams in the district. BHFan is more annoying than the Ned and PNG posters so I take more jabs at him. I do think I live inside your head though. As far as being rattled, I wasn't rattled in the slightest when we lined up with 9X state champion Aledo. WTF would I be rattled regarding a team we've consistently abused with state championship coaches on the sideline? That's just a rinse and repeat to Crosby.
-
Every school in our district that would have to move up and play North Shore would be eaten. BH is probably the next school to go which is why they're mentioned. Imagine the "hate" that would be on Crosby if we were moving into 6A? "Y'all are average here, y'all will suck in 6A". All you have to do is go back and look at the vitriol directed towards Summer Creek when they were here and about to move up and multiply it by 2.
-
Again, BH is already at 1,971 meaning as long as they don't have kids skip on snapshot day they'll be 5A-D1 next alignment. That's up over 200 kids from last realignment. If they keep that same growth rate for the next alignment they would be bumping right up against the current 6A floor which is Austin Anderson at 2,211. In the '26 realignment they'll be around 2,400 kids and well into 6A. Summer Creek, Baytown Sterling, GCM, La Porte, Humble and CE King were half the size of North Shore in district play at one point too, what is was your point in mentioning that? Go look at Allen's district. 7a isn't even a possibility until the '24 realignment and Stepp already said it isn't a given because it doesn't fix the smaller classes. BH just paid $2M to a guy many viewed as the best coach in Texas over a five year period to average a 3rd place finish in 5A-D2 district play. BH has 1/4 the talent Summer Creek does and they're still being destroyed by NS and Atascocita since moving up to 6A. Nobody is dreaming up anything, the numbers are the numbers.
-
BH won a couple of titles in 1A in the '70s to SLC's three 3A titles in the late '80s and early '90s. SLC just became a lot more affluent and also happened to fall into a bunch of talent with ex-Cowboys' kids. BH will definitely be eaten by NS and Atascocita but other than Katy, who isn't? Westfield and maybe one of the Klein or Cypress schools? I think BH will be a lot closer to Deer Park than any of those schools though. I think they've show that even with and enrollment of 4,000 and a high paid coach you're still going to lose by 40ppg to North Shore on a regular basis. I think all of the 5A/6A schools east of the Trinity are starting to slide down in enrollment comparable to the rest of the state, that may be a good thing though.
-
Hopefully the D2 cap moves closer to 1,950, otherwise Crosby will be making the move up in '22 also. Playoffs are definitely harder but I think BH would have a better chance winning district in 9-5A-D1 than they do 12-5A-D2.

Dunn was a lot like Cotton in the sense that he was a great game manager who took care of the ball and could make the needed plays with his legs. Myles is closer to the Merka, Walter and Howard type athleticism levels. Doesn't mean he'll be heavily recruited though. It was an intra-squad scrimmage, Crosby only gets one scrimmage against an opponent because we did Spring ball.
-
I thought Crosby is about where they should be for having to replace a bunch of key guys. One thing for sure is that we have the QB spot nailed down, I actually think Myles is going to be an upgrade there as far at athleticism and playmaking ability goes. Still need to get some of the offensive and defensive skill positions locked down, mainly CB, but shouldn't be an issue with the kids I saw out there to choose from. Overall I would say offense is ahead of the defense, which you would probably want the inverse of at this time of year, but the same can be said for last year and we turned out ok. Gap may have been really visible had the receivers caught the ball consistently. Looks like we're going to be very solid again in the front seven, secondary has to be able to hold up enough to get rewarded though. On a side note, I think we made a good hire with the new DC. He has some Jerry Stewart in him which I think has been missing since Coach Mann left for Cedar Hill and now ended up as the head coach for Lubbock Coronado. I thought we played an aggressive style of defense last year, seems like it may even be more along those lines this year?
-
North Shore has lost one district game the last 6 years, even if you think they're going to take a step back do you really pick against them? Atascocita would be the logical pick but they once again showed if it's not 2017 they can't play defense. That was not a good loss to Ridge Point last year. As far as the other district you probably have to go with PAM since they're the only team that didn't lose their first round game by at least 40 points.

Art Briles completely exonerated by the NCAA
Cougar14.2 replied to Separation Scientist's topic in High School Football
Same for Saban. Numerous players arrested on weapons and drug charges but he's revered for giving them second chances. Most of them happen to be early round draft picks though. Meyer recruited Aaron Hernandez knowing he was banging a blood set in Connecticut. What do you know, shortly after he arrives on campus he's involved in a double shooting. You also mentioned Jimbo Fisher. Fisher, along with FSU, covered for Jameis Winston's rape allegations. He probably doesn't if Winston isn't the top qb prospect in the nation though. FSU eventually had to settle for $950k in one of the cases. I don't think A&M fans had any problems hiring him though?
