You're right but I see what Izzy is saying too. If PNG is whipping your but then why are you clamoring for bigger games? On the flip side if you don't play those bigger games then how do you expect to raise your level of play? Tough position to be in for BU but at the end of the day they're the ones responsible.

257 guest currently online vs 90 guest out in East Texas, interesting to say the least. Maybe we work less down here?

Third week in a row I've know about the film that was sent over because this is my 6th year having a son who plays varsity football at Crosby. My sophomore nephew got moved up to varsity and my freshman son will be up there next year. So for at least 29 more weeks in a row I will have HUDL logins to view the scout film that is sent over from opposing coaches and posted to the team account for the kids to study. I post things for the Crosby fans that are interested in their team. The reason people see me around town ask "So what do you think about this week?" or "How we looking?" is because they know I do stuff like get up Sunday mornings at 5AM to go sit in the mancave and watch film for three or four hours before I get on here posting what I think about a game.

Yep, looked even worse against King last year and still beat FBM with 6 starters out. You can make 100 posts about how bad we looked and it still won't change that FACT.
-
Only had 18 yards rushing against King last year and still put 207 rushing yards on FBM the next week. Only had 64 total yards against King last year compared to 245 this year, and that’s with the drops. Otherwise, first rattle out of the box the offense puts up 5X the yards and 5X times the points as our offense last year that returned multiple starters including the QB from a semifinals team. Lot different personnel on this team than started the season last year, plus most importantly we’re relatively healthy for now. There’s also a lot of overall experience in this team, a bunch of the kids on the current roster played a lot as sophomores and freshmen during the semifinal run in ‘21. Some of the other seniors like Eudy actually played in the state championship game in ‘20 too. Willis may be a new coach to us but he has a good group year one just like Riordan and Prieto landed with so the expectation is a solid product. Again, I appreciate all of your concern for our program. I know it sucks for nobody to care about your team’s games until you play Crosby or PAM.

They don’t like physical football, that’s why we beat them, that’s why y’all beat them and that why BH beat them running QB draws. They’re usually and awful chatty bunch but they’ve been very quiet in social media so far this week.

Crosby lost by 56 to King last year and beat FBM the next week after them beating Klein 14-7 in their opener. Same scenario and FBM took an L to a beat up Crosby team. Lot healthier this year and better on both sides of the ball. They should have a huge edge, they’re at home and have 10 D1 kids on their roster. That’s why they’re on Crosby’s schedule.

The scout film they sent over this week is 136 plays and they don't look great on any of that either. You also have to take into account that they played a 6A school over twice their size though. That was their first game out and they're trying to replace 80% of their offensive production from last year. Outside of the times when they had Malik Hornsby and JW Ketchum playing QB their offense has always looked unimpressive . . . until you get on the field with them and understand why they have won 6 of the last 8 5A track and field state titles. FBM beats you with overall team speed and defense and their defense looks pretty solid. Not that it matters this week but Klein probably would've won the game if not for that holding call in OT on 1st and goal from the 4 yard line. Klein can't throw the ball at all but was gashing FBM with the QB keeper. Klein's base formation is pretty similar to what Crosby runs now, what I'm hoping is that they defend us the same way and we capitalize on some of the big play opportunities Klein couldn't hit.

The resources are split evenly and the facilities at the schools are comparable, GP probably even has the nicer on campus facility. I would imagine GP's coach makes more than NS' right now too since Gaston is new. In order to split up the athletes you would have to cut certain apartment complexes and subdivisions out of the center of NS' attendance zone. ISD's are always going to give preferential treatment to the flagship schools, that's why Lamar High looks like a juco campus and Bellaire got a new $140M school while Yates can't get the AC fixed.

Nobody cares about who’s bringing back what. Both teams have new transfers, both teams lost their QB and leading receiver, FBM also lost their leading rusher. FBM lost two P5 DE’s and a stud MLB to Arkansas St. out of the front seven. All returnees aren’t equal and last year FB Marshall lost to a Crosby team that had been beaten 63-7 the week prior and literally couldn’t move the football. If we had simply caught the ball Friday night we get 35+, totally different than going into this game last year. Crosby isn’t starting as a bottom feeder like y’all had to, plus we actually got the mentor instead of the understudy so we don’t really expect the mediocre results y’all strive for. Interesting that James Williams receives a lot of flak on this site for FBM not having titles but all of a sudden he’s about to out-coach a guy that does because he’s playing Crosby, lol.

North Shore’s attendance zone is extremely small for a school its size. Probably 90% of their kids live in a 3 mile x 3 mile box from HWY90 south to I-10 in between Uvalde and Federal. All of North Shore’s talent lives in that one small place too. The Galena Park and Jacinto City neighborhoods, which make up GP’s attendance zone, have a different demographic makeup. Can’t really split them up any other way, GP High is about the same distance from NS High as Crosby High is.

Man, it doesn’t get any more mediocre in 6A than Brazoswood. They’re one of those “dial a W” squads no good teams around here really even play. Every now and then they play Angleton in non-district because it’s right up the street but they’re generally viewed as so bad all they can get is teams like Sterling and Northbrook like they have this year, oh and BU. Coach Willis talked about playing well coached teams so you can steal the stuff they do. While I think we all agree playing PNG doesn’t help BU physically for what they’ll see in 6A, they may not play a team on their schedule better coached scheme wise. Those are the type things you would hope BU could take advantage of before the program got better and you couldn’t play games like that. BU also need to figure out why PNG has less talent but better football players? What I’m saying about BU vs North Shore’s football playing populations is that even with split up schools North Shore is playing with about 1,045 to BU’s 1,440. There’s no difference in the two schools economically, facilities wise yes, but if BU could manage to put a decent product on the field they could increase participation and incoming transfer rates which would lead to being successful even quicker. All that aside, even now with those numbers BU should be in the conversation.

Andre Feast game-winner in OT against Klein. If the defense can keep him and the RB #24 in check FB Marshall should have even more trouble scoring on us than they did last year. [Hidden Content]

If BU goes something like 2-8 and finishes a four year stretch 10-30 they'll probably be playing teams the caliber of Alvin and Brazoswood again next alignment because no other reputable programs will respect them enough to pick up the phone. Even though BU isn't the best coached team I think PNG still gets a good look from them because of their athletic similarities to FB Marshall and Texas City who they'll see in district play. One of the interesting stats I ran across the last couple of years is the fact that BU has about a 30% larger football playing population than North Shore and their 4,500 student enrollment. At the very least even in 6A BU should be regularly competing for playoff spots. I think that goes to show how much culture plays into yearly results.
-
I agree 100% in terms of the staying power. For years Crosby has relied on athleticism and we've won a lot of games. I think this is the type team Coach P and Rio would get 50 a night with but I also think a system like we're installing now would've been better for a less talented team like last year. If we could post videos I would show you the play Glover scored on is the EXACT play I've see Carthage, Katy and Longview run for years. If we can get the offense figured out in short order and keep the defense healthy I think we may run the table in district play. For instance, the should've been 50 yard TD Hammer dropped was actually supposed to be for Wright. They should've been aligned opposite of what they were. It's ok though, Wright made up for it a couple of series later when he dropped the slant for a TD. If we can improve as much as we did from Lamar to CE King again this week we might go Fort Bend County and come away with a surprising result.

I wasn't keeping track as I was watching the film but on 26 dropbacks I don't think Eudy was sacked once? Remember Langley didn't play either. Eudy ended up throwing for 223 yards and that was with all those drops, easily goes for over 300 yards and 4tds if we could've hung on to it. They moved my nephew up from JV after he made some spectacular catches on King last week, maybe they intend on him helping us hang on to it on Friday's too. To your point about the fronts though. Crosby rushed 28 times for 22 yards and CEK rushed 31 times for 409 yards. We were also 1-13 on 3rd downs and half of those were 3rd and 5 or shorter. I agree though, we clean up some of those first game miscues I think we're going to be more than fine. That being said, this new offense is extremely complicated vs what we've been used to running under Coach Riordan and Coach P. You see Coach P's first rattle out of the box they dropped 60 Friday night.

Feels like this game could be a defensive struggle. If Crosby can contain the little RB #24 I think we'll have decent day rushing the passer and defending in the secondary. Andre Feast is a beast but overall I think the FBM receiving core is a notch below CEK. O-line isn't anywhere near King's overall size but the tackles do go about 285 and 300lbs with one being the younger brother of of former A&M signee Barton Clement. FBM runs a two QB system I'm assuming. #15 is the bigger kid and better runner while #6 is the better passer and less likely to pull it down. For example, #15 made all but a couple of FBM most explosive run plays against Klein while #6 was brought in on OT to throw the fade to Feast for the game-winning TD. What is concerning is FBM on the defensive side of the ball. Looks like they either got a basketball player to come out of got a DT transfer during the offseason? They already had Koryn Randals who has D1 offers at one DT spot and now they add 6'9" 250lbs DeMarcus Johnson who of course had D1 offers too. They replaced stud linebacker Jordan Sample and is counterpart with a couple of 6'2" sophomores who absolutely look like they have P5 ability. The secondary is typical FBM, Josh Lair, Caleb Chester and Isiah Williams all have multiple P5 offers. William Mitchell is their weak link in the secondary even though he's currently sitting on 11 D1 offers. Going to be a great test to see if we can scheme guys as open as we had them on CEK last week, hopefully we can catch it this time.

Crosby travels down to Ken Hall Stadium in Missouri City to play the Buffalos Friday night. Oddly it will be the first time the two played outside the confines of Harris County. Crosby took a revenge beating in the opener for all the ones we gave CEK when they were in our district and FB Marshall beat 6A Klein High 21-15 on a ten yard fade route in OT. Crosby will be looking for a bounce back performance before district play starts next week and FB Marshall looking to avoid a 3rd straight loss to the Cougars.

Lot of people forget that Allen won 30 straight from ‘17-‘18 before losing to Duncanville in the semis in ‘18. Terry Gambill went 65-4 in his five years at Allen before they hired Chad Morris and now Lee Wigginton. King is good but only because they have great athletes. Outside of them blasting Shadow Creek a couple years ago and beating Summer Creek in district play I can’t remember one team they beat with comparable or better athleticism lately? Maybe FB Ridge Point if you want to put them on that level? King’s offense isn’t that good against teams they can’t line up and play bully-ball on. I don’t think they’ll be able to do it to Allen and because of that I think Allen will win by several scores.

Crosby (22) @ Sheldon C.E. King (58) - FINAL
Cougar14.2 replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
We’ve missed the playoffs once in 18 years now under our 4th head coach. Playoffs are the base expectation for Crosby. We’re going for a win or share of our 7th district championship in the last 10 years, we’re trying to win our 4th regional final in that span and make our 2nd title game appearance. The last thing Crosby should be doing is taking advice from BH who has one district title the last 15 years. Obviously what y’all do doesn’t work. Go tell Jason Todd and his two titles that he’s an idiot for playing Duncanville because he lost 41-3 and could’ve lost 63-0 if Samples felt like it. Tell him he should be playing Grapevine instead because that’s how y’all do it in BH. At the end of the day BH doesn’t play high level non-district games because one, because nobody respects you enough to put you on the schedule and two, y’all are scared to lose them. Y’all are still on the everybody should play and feel good about themselves tip. Crosby is trying to win so we’re going to play winners, especially when we have to play teams like that in a few years. -
I’m assuming CEK’s QB is eligible now or that he’s playing the non-district games? Allen worked them last year but their 4⭐️ QB transferred to Frisco Emerson. They just lost to Desoto by 30 in the opener so maybe CEK has a chance to keep it respectable this year. Tough to make a four hour ride to that kind of environment and be expected to come away with a result.

South Houston (22) @ Baytown Lee (33) - FINAL
Cougar14.2 replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
Interesting to see how Lee’s offense progresses as the season goes along. Averion Hurts is the new OC and Duncan is back at QB. Hope they’re still trying to figure things out in two weeks when Crosby comes to town. -
Crosby (22) @ Sheldon C.E. King (58) - FINAL
Cougar14.2 replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
R Playing teams like Magnolia West in non-district does 0 for Crosby. They’re not going to be a factor to win anything and they don’t have the personnel or coaching that you look for to get you ready for the teams you have to beat late in the playoffs. Playing teams where you know you’re out-manned tests your level of physicality, execution and fortitude. Are you physical enough to compete, can you execute within narrow margins and when it gets tough out there who really wants to play? Saw some physicality, King probably got more players hurt than we did. Executed light years better than last year, even with returning a QB responsible for 50 tds the year before, and the kids played hard to the last whistle. In Crosby and CEK’s case we’re also seeing where we need to be in a few years to compete in district play. SOC has been playing Duncanville in non-district the last four years. SOC has no chance but in those games SOC has become a little more and more competitive, it’s definitely helped them in later games during the season.
