  1. With Crosby kicking off their season on 8/26 we're officially one month out from 12-5A-D2 trying to prove that they're once again the best district in the region. With Crosby playing Carthage being on a Thursday and everybody else basically kicking off Friday I expect some pretty big online viewing numbers. Would be awesome if they put this one on KUBE a.k.a. the North Shore/Katy network.
  2. Kind of dangerous to giving the band kids Red Bulls in all this heat?
  3. For the same reason Nederland fans bring up their state championship 64 years later. When you're just an average team like Crosby you have to live in the past. With as average as Nederland is you should fully grasp this concept. I understand where you're coming from though. it would almost make me feel like our co-district championship wasn't worth anything after receiving that generational 49-0 arse whipping from FBM and then watching Crosby take them out the very next week for their second regional title post Walter Twins.
  4. IDK, but that's what his mom told us last week at the park when we were sitting back there watching the youngsters work out though? I'm assuming she was talking about measurements from his recent physical? I personally couldn't gauge, I've just been looking at him on HUDL. I would expect him to go about 6-4 and that same 340lbs in a couple of years though.
  5. You can mention whatever you want. Probably going to get a response though? For those of you that struggle with the melanin content of the settlement area you could just refer to it as "South Crosby". Should resolve your issues.
  6. Lol, more gamesmanship than sportsmanship but gotta love Coach P for that. What got me sold on him isn’t that he had us in the final in his 26th game on the sideline at Crosby though. My cousin is the head coach for the freshman team at North Shore. He’s also from Barrett Station and wanted to give back to the community by doing some summer workout camps at the neighborhood park. Somehow Coach found out about it and he showed up at the park to make sure his players weren’t being stolen. For him to show up THERE to make sure 12 year olds weren’t getting hijacked wasn’t something I don’t the the last couple of guys would’ve done? Rancher making sure all his cattle stay in the pen so he can get them to market. Have to respect that.
  7. Montgomery got 52 on us and I don't think it was all because our defense had kinks to work out. Defense played well enough in the opener against George Ranch to win the game and outside of Manvel really only got scorched by Montgomery and Aledo. I think it could be as much as a 20 point gap between Montgomery and BU because of the styles of play, not necessarily the strength of the teams. BU tries to grind you down with superior athleticism and is not really what I would call explosive on offense. Montgomery is the exact opposite of that on offense and probably has a better defense than BU. They already knocked off A&M Con. last year to finish as district runner-up, I wouldn't be surprised to see them get Huntsville this year and win it.
  8. That's true in some cases but there are other cases like Kardell Thomas' where they become the most dominant lineman in the state. I went to school with his mom who's now a school teacher in the district, she was pretty healthy and slimmed down. I expect the same for her son. [Hidden Content]
  9. This offseason has a very similar feeling to when we lost the Twins and their 12,000+ career yards. Didn't bring back a lot of starters and were supposed to take a significant step back but we didn't and instead went 24-3 over the next couple of years. Crosby's talent pool will be increasing yearly over the next four seasons so if healthy I expect to see some special campaigns from these youngsters coming up. P.S. - Those freshman coach mentioned that are probably going to play varsity are the real deal. One goes about 6'/210ish and will play inside LB. One is a rb who's going to be on the bigger side but has the best footwork I've seen from a young back at Crosby since Walter. The freshman I'm most excited about is the lineman who just turned 14 and is already 6-2/340lbs. Lots of talent coming through the program that we're definitely going to need as we're almost sure to go to 5A-D1 for the '24 alignment.
  10. Just went back an watched the Crosby vs Fort Bend Marshall game to see where we got lucky and verify why they should be the favorite to get back to Dallas from the southern half of Texas. My projection for FB Marshall is really based on Ja'koby Banks playing at the level Malik Hornsby did when he was there. I don't think anybody in the state will have a real answer for the Banks to Marshall connection but they were deficient in a couple of areas teams might still be able to expose this year, mainly in the trenches. Crosby ran for nearly 300 yards at a close to a 7ypc clip and only gave up one sack. FBM was held to less than 100 yards rushing on 29 attempts and gave up seven sacks. Our two turnovers to their zero was a big deal too. If Crosby can get the young hogs up to speed quickly enough don't be surprised if we show up for a rematch in Cowboys Stadium. If healthy we're going to be pretty dynamic at the skill positions the next couple of years.
  11. Nice to open with a perennial 4A power like Carthage and good to close with a solid 5A-D1 team like PAM on the back end but for Crosby it's going to be Manvel. They're the best gauge for the type of coaching, skill players and trench guys you see deep in the playoffs. Once we line up against them everybody else on the schedule seems pretty normal.
  12. The SC defense will be ok but we'll see how their offense looks without Drones at qb? They're going to start the head coach's son who looks like he's pretty solid but I doubt it helps against the Mustangs. That North Shore defense is going to be on the level Duncanville's was a couple years ago. My cousin is the head coach for the freshman team and said during the scrimmages the offense can't even move the ball on them. All they probably need from the qb position to win another title is Davis' level of play as a freshman.
  13. Montgomery is probably going to score 50+ on BU. Their defense probably won't be great but the head coach's son plays QB and can flat out sling it. I think he threw for over 500 yards on Crosby last year.
  14. This exact sentiment is why I always say it’s a lose lose for the bigger school to play down. If you lose you lose and if you win it’s like, “well you should, you’re twice as big”. I think that will be the exact scenario with Crosby at 1,818 and Carthage at 824.
  15. Well, even though they look like a 6A HISD squad you would eventually figure they stop playing like one? I remember a year or two ago when I made a comment about the team's performance Soulja said they just needed some time. Maybe this is the time he was talking about? One thing for sure though, with all the talent in that program you shouldn't need a bunch of it.
  16. Because DCTF has them picked 2nd in y'alls district. They expect them to be better than 6th place Baytown Lee this year.
  17. I've been buying DC's for a while and not that I've actually checked to see every time but I honestly can't remember the last time they didn't pick PNG to go to the playoffs from their district. On the other hand, they did lose to the team that's picked in front of them last year. Another notable thing is that they have FB Marshall over Huntsville in the D2 regional final.
  18. Offensive MVP - Kyndon Fuselier (Nederland - WR) Defensive MVP - McCoy Casey (Crosby - DL) 1. Crosby (1,818) 2. Nederland (1,451) 3. Barbers Hill (1,768) 4. Texas City (1,821) 5. Port Neches-Groves (1,505) 6. Kingwood Park (1,887) 7. Dayton (1,516) 8. Santa Fe (1,313) Crosby brings back the fewest starters (3/3) Nederland brings back the most starters (6/9)
  19. I have been, seen and watched us win in Bulldog Stadium and on the Reservation. The environment for our old Crosby vs Dayton games was more intense than those. The difference is the familiarity with Dayton being right down the road just like Ned and PNG are very familiar to y'all, yet they're tougher for Crosby to adjust to. It's going to be our home opener coming off our first finals appearance since the 60's. IDK how much the new streaming rules will affect it but the environment is probably going to be pretty similar to the Manvel game which was also our home opener in '18.
  20. Heights was 6-0 in district last year and actually beat the Lamar team they're picked behind this year. Heights has a good coach(who probably won't be there much longer) and some very good players scattered through their roster including their qb Jalen Morrision who I think is one of the most slept on kids in Houston. Game is probably a true toss-up but I would still favor Heights on the strength that they had a better record in a higher classification and lost in the same second round BH did. District needs to win games like these to keep garnering respect though.
  21. Yep, and said the other way if BH starts 4-1 they will definitely be judging and projecting what they'll be under him. Crosby had a similar start in Prieto's first year. The district isn't that tough that bad starts affect you that much. You start 1-4 at BH though and those kids are probably checked out and at the deer lease mentally. TW was at Allen for 12 years and won 4 titles. In those 12 years he had right at 40 playoff wins against 17 total losses. In 5 years at BH he had 3 playoff wins against 17 total losses. That's after Gage showed up with two titles and only won one or two playoff games. If no other experiment shows you that should let you know most great coaching records have a lot to do with where those guys are coaching. Abseck was at Cedar Park for like 16 years, only has been a head coach for six. Took over a machine of a team after the '14 season and went 16-0 his first year as a head coach. The next 4 years he didn't make it past the third round losing to Manvel twice, Shadow Creek and their district mate at the time Manor. This year with what all the CP people were calling their best team ever he finally got past Manvel before losing by 45 to DR in the title game. He took over a ready made program instead of having to build one like he'll have to do in BH and he had more talent relative to the class than he will at BH. If TW couldn't do it in five years I don't think there's any reason to believe a guy with less credentials could in that period. What would I be rattled about? As far as I'm concerned Prieto is a better 5A-D2 coach than Abseck until he proves otherwise just like Riordan proved he was better than TW at our level. Believe it or not, at the end of the day I want BH to be good. It makes the games more preparatory and helps the district in general.
  22. They may end up being alright but they have a tough first half of the schedule. Only game I think they would be favored in is Kingwood Park to open district play.
  23. Riordan went 10-2 his second season in Crosby, were a couple of missed 4th quarter plays away from knocking off Summer Creek and going undefeated in the regular season. '14-17 under Riordan Crosby either won or tied for the district championship including getting to the semis in year three. Prior to that at Sulphur Springs he headed up one of the most potent offenses in the state, dropped 69 on Dayton in the title game. Credentials were legit and the SS offense wasn't as good after he left meaning he was the big reason for their success. Coach P had a stop as the OC at one of the Cypress schools and wasn't very successful. My theory was that the numbers he put up at CC Vets were in large part due to the fact that Vets was the new school and carved a bunch of talent from the CCISD attendance zone. Similar to what Shadow Creek did to Manvel in AISD's attendance zone. I was wrong in the fact that our search committee didn't recommend the right guy for the job but right in the sense that Vets was set up to be a Coastal Bend powerhouse anyway. Vets went 13-1 this year averaging over 49ppg per game and losing in the semis to Cedar Park. In Crosby we really try and even expect to win, not just make splash hires with guys who may not fit. We'll see how y'all feel about BH's new hire when y'all start the season 1-4.
  24. I would say 25-28. I would classify elite as your perennial top 4-5 teams in each classification. I would classify your perennial top 4-5 teams as the group of teams that no matter what, come into each season with a chance to compete for a state championship. I would have six teams in 6A though. North Shore, Katy, Westlake, Lake Travis, Allen and SLC. I think 1A would have the fewest elite teams with Richland Springs, Borden County and maybe Strawn. I think 2A-5A are in that 4-5 range even though it's hard to foresee someone beating Carthage and Aledo to start any season.
  25. Write-up from when they hired him says so. Love to see guys get opportunities at solid programs. My younger cousin, who's also a UT grad, just got bumped up to co-offensive coordinator at Odessa Permian and one of my college teammates just got the head coaching job at Bishop Lynch. Another former Crosby assistant, DJ Mann, was named HFC at Lubbock Coronado who went 12-1 last year. Very pleased to see some administrations branching out from what are probably their normal hiring pools.
