  1. Well, kinda. Crosby may be too close to BH for those "family reasons" not to resurface. Plus, if he puts together another solid season or two at CH he's probably in line for one of the big time DFW jobs which he probably prefers.
  2. That's because the money for stuff like pitching/hitting lessons, travel ball, etc. have more of an impact in girls sports where the athletic abilities aren't as far apart as boys. Baseball is where that impact is felt the most in the major sports on the boys side as evidenced in the playoff bracket. Lol, it's an argument I always have with my girls sports supporter from BH.
  3. Full disclosure, he absolutely is/was an ardent supporter of TW. Talked to him a good bit during TW's time on The Hill from what I understand. I don't think you can say he has an axe to grind if other staff feels the same way about the supt. as TW did from what I was told, particularly some of the teachers. They're just well paid and know better than making waves. As for making excuses for "underperforming" I think you really have to take step back and see what BH was before he came. He won more playoff games in one year than BH had the entire time they had been in 5A. Considering what BH was the five years before TW came I could make an argument that he actually overperformed with the personnel he had. I think TW was relaying reasons he wasn't winning more, not making excuses. Had he not been paid a bunch of money nobody would be saying BH underperformed during his tenure.
  4. I could go into a lot more detail but why potentially ruin a kid's eligibility to prove something insignificant on a message board? It's speculative talk on a message board just like any other you visit. You have three options; believe it, don't believe or don't read it. Choice is yours.
  5. I think you hit the nail on the head. That's why I said "unverifiable", supposedly it came from the horse's mouth. Guy could've taken time out of his day just to call me this morning to lie to me for a half hour though? He's one of the two people who have kids in the program whose information/insight I trust. I can tell you his older son transferred to Crosby and was a stud for us and now that TW left, his younger son will also transfer to Crosby next year. Just gave me info I didn't know about our coaching staff too. My co-worker played DT at SC State, currently goes about 6-3 325 and has a son in one of BH's middle schools who looks to be on the same track. He told me this morning his son will also be at Crosby in the next year or two. One of my sons in Crosby's program told me months ago that we got a kid whose family was moving to BH but decided to just go to Crosby because of that. Just left a department lunch which one of BH's all-district players mom happened to attended. Her husband is employed by BH ISD so she didn't really elaborate but was aware of the apartment comment. Another BH lady who was sitting there listening to us made a comment that's probably too controversial to post but was right in line with what my buddy was telling me this morning. *P.S. - You should probably change your location back to just "baseball". Things are back to regular now.
  6. Supposedly, part of this reloading will consist of bringing in the DC from Bryan Rudder to replace Coach Tarr who took the La Porte job and also bringing in the DC from Channelview as co-DC. Definitely not two places you think of when you talk about defense but I won't be questioning any coaching decisions in the near future. Heck, maybe one of them teaches or DBs how to backpedal?
  7. Totally unverifiable post, just information that was relayed by a football guy that lives in the BH district: Word in the back room is that TW left mainly because of the superintendent. Supt. would come into the office and question TW about some of the coaching decisions he was making. Undoubtedly the supt. used to coach in his pre-administrative days? The son left this past season after a discussion with the supt. that included something along the lines of "This isn't Dallas, you're not winning down here without athletes" from KW. Heard the Westerbergs were a little surprised with the personnel and the nonchalant attitude from the kids and parents towards winning in BH. Not sure exactly what part of the season/offseason it was but he gave an example of kids pulling into the parking lot for Saturday practice/workouts with boats hooked up to their trucks like, "We just have to hurry and get through this so we can go do X and not really focusing on the work that needed to be put in." Supposedly there are two things that happened that really rubbed TW the wrong way more than the supt.'s arrogance and questioning of his coaching. One was the hair situation that happened at BH. BH had several transfers lined up at the skill positions for the upcoming season and all pulled out after the news. Second, there was supposedly some school meeting where the supt. informed the staff that the district bought some land around I-10 and HWY 99 to keep an apartment complex that would've been zoned to BH from being built. Comment was along the lines of "We don't need that in our district". Sounds like the supt. just wore TW out and TW not really having to deal with it just chose to leave. Was also told the supt. has already reached out to Surratt who said he was good. The one sentiment I didn't get was that this was some sudden decision TW made, he had been on the fence for a while. I commented earlier about what TW would tell other coaches who asked him for advice about the BH job and now I think that's even more pertinent. *Unrelated - was told the supt. fired Price because he benched his son his senior year. Dick Olin had a lot to do with Murray ending up in Allen playing for his buddy TW after leaving Lewisville. TWs BASE salary was in the $160k range but had escalators pertaining to other sports that could've taken his salary to the $180k range.
  8. Well, Liberty Hill averaged 57ppg this year, including dogging out some 6As, and was one point away from the title game running the . . . (clears throat) . . . slot-T. Buda Hays made the semis against Katy running it this year and SA Wagner was in the 5A-D1 semis against Shadow Creek running it in 2019. So there's precedent for running it with success in the higher classifications. BH definitely has better overall athletes than LH does.
  9. I'm not sure Snelson could replicate what he does in Dickinson at BH? They're becoming known for producing those TEs but they also have kids like OTs Canon Boone who just signed with Mississippi State and 4* PJ Williams who's one of the top OTs in his class and committed to A&M. They have FBS talent on the defensive line too. Tells you they're very good at the LOS and they use those advantages to maul people. BH already tried that with Gage. I think they need to go the Lovejoy/Georgetown/Pioneer route where you emphasize QB play and offensive execution. GT went all the way to the title game without a single FBS signee(QB walked on somewhere). BH has been playing decent defense under TW and already has good enough receivers for a system like that, it would just come down to getting or developing QBs that could play at a high level. They need to stay away from the coaches that have 4*s just grazing in the hallways, plus Snelson is probably 60 already and has had some health problems. If I was BH I would swing for the fences again but I would also have some feelers out to a guy like Riordan just in case.
  10. The only teams we lined up with last year that had better personnel than us were Manvel and Aledo. That may have not been the case if Chris Marshall doesn't get ejected in the FB Marshall game but we'll never know. How did Crosby overperform by beating teams they had better personnel than? The only chatter you're talking about was coming from outside of Crosby. With the kids we put on the field every year we never expect not to be competitive. All you have to do is sit in the stands at one of our games and listen to the "chatter". We hated Riordan left but we also hated giving up 50ppg in playoff losses under him too. Coach P coached to his talent instead of trying to make the talent fit his coaching and these were the results. Crosby is probably one of the five biggest schools in 5A-D2 so we should be towards the top of the class talent wise. I think you're confusing years of Crosby underperforming with this year and us actually playing up to our ability. If you think Crosby overperformed this year, wait until Coach P gets one of those uber-talented teams like Rio had in '13 or '17. * Didn't mean to derail the discussion but after a decade of being accused of underperforming it's extremely odd to be accused of overperforming.
  11. Yeah, that's honestly one of the worst arguments I see on this site and just around TXHSF in general. I guess Phil Danaher and his 400+ career wins has underperformed at Calallen too, lol. Whenever you get into the "what do you consider a great coach" argument I always revert back to, "Do you have to be Bill Gates or Warren Buffet to be considered a great businessman?"
  12. No, but all accept Green were the QBs that led up to Westerberg being seen as a great coach and eventually landing Murray when he chose to leave Lewisville. Murray's dad is a QB coach and I'm sure evaluated TW and the way he coached those kids before he allowed his son to play for him. Not sure that if TW doesn't beat Hightower in the title game with one of those kids that Murray ever shows up in Allen.
  13. Whoa now. You can't call Samples anything other than great. Samples went 3-7 his first year at Duncanville and the very next year had them in the regional final at 11-3. That's hardly enough time to "collect talent" from the rest of SW Dallas county. The mark of a great coach is what happens before and after you leave. Samples coached a bunch of DISD kids from some south Dallas projects to the state finals at Lincoln, lost that one on a blocked FG I believe. Lincoln has been in the gutter ever since he left. Next stop was Skyline who was mediocre before he got there to say the least. He turned them into an absolute monster, just couldn't get past Allen or SLC to win a title. He went 96-14 his last 8 years at Skyline. He left and Skyline immediately went back to being mediocre. You could probably apply your "collecting talent" comment to his time at the former east Dallas powerhouse and it would be more fitting. Duncanville had already won a title before Samples got there and has always been full of talent. They were just a sleeping giant that needed direction. True he's gotten a big time transfers like Kendrick Blackshire but he's also lost big time prospects like Chris Parsons who transferred to Red Oak after starting as freshman against North Shore in the title game. Duncanville doesn't need the transfers, they have a similar enrollment to North Shore but probably have twice the player pool to choose from. Those kids in south Dallas look at Samples like the second coming and play their butts off for him. IMO him and Steve Lineweaver have been the best coaches in the DFW in recent memory beside Joey McGuire.
  14. BH does have a good amount of diversity in their younger classes. As for TW's resume, outside of Kyler Murray during his time at Allen he coached: Matt Brown - TCU Nathan Dick - Arkansas Casey Dick - Arkansas Seth Green - Minnesota I'm missing one in his time there when he first took over though. Throw Murray in there and it makes the job a whole lot easier with those caliber of QBs EVERY year. Samples needs to stay put. Lol, after one transition year Samples would mess around and have BH in the regional finals. I don't think he fits what BH wants in a coach though, plus I doubt the Godfather of South Dallas football would be willing to come any further south than I-20.
  15. Barrett is majority Hispanic now. Only about 20% of our better athletes are coming from the Barrett/Cedar Grove areas now. The vast majority of our athletes come from Crosby proper now. Liberty Hill also doesn't have a Barrett Station.
  16. BH is also 2-8 against Crosby the last 10 years. BH was close for two years, as in beat Crosby. Crosby officially tied for the district title in 2017 and 2020 but played from the #2 position. In 2018 Crosby was ranked #2 in the state before Howard tore his ACL in Vidor. Season was over after that and was the only reason we missed the playoffs for the only time in 16 years. Pretty sure Crosby would've went 10-0 in the regular season and played FB Marshall in the 3rd round had Howard stayed healthy. In 2019 our financial crisis hung over us and we played with a first year coach who had no offseason. Very bleak year in general in Crosby. That's what it took for TW to beat Crosby those two times. Last year y'all were blow out, in 2016 y'all were blown out and I guess 2017 is when you said Crosby needed a major comeback? We were down 6 pts going into the 4th quarter and scored 22 unanswered and y'all lost by 16. BH was never up by more than 7. Think about it? Crosby had their two worst seasons in a decade and a half in that 5 year period and still had more wins than BH and their hired gun. As good as Crosby just looked in our Spring game Friday I expect another blow out this coming season. No doubt BH has improved leaps and bounds in terms of individual athleticism, as they should with a growing enrollment but we're just going to have to disagree on what "pretty close" means in terms of program strength/capabilities/trajectory.
  17. It wouldn't let me edit, that's why I switched the other post to "four playoff wins" to account for that 11 year period I was eluding to. Was just looking at the overview and didn't account for the cancelled covid game in 2020. Brings the average down to $666,667 per playoff win under TW.
  18. Should be "four playoff wins", forgot to account for the cancelled game last year.
  19. With growth comes a higher enrollment and a move up in classes. BH is already a big school for 5A-D2, next comes 5A-D1 and in about six years they'll have a 6A enrollment and get to play schools like North Shore and Atascocita in district. BH definitely has more athletes now but Deer Park and BH are very similar schools and look how DP struggles even though their enrollment is the highest in the Houston area. I would be very interested to see what TW candidly tells other coaching applicants who reach out to him for information?
  20. TW only won three playoff games at BH and finished above 3rd place one time, and both of those wins were in the same year. No 5A teams in the Houston area except Manvel and probably FB Marshall has more playoff wins in the last 15 years than Crosby, and that's without last year's run. We've only missed the playoffs once in like 16 years and have won or tied for the DC multiple times. Our normal run was losing in the second round when only 32 teams are left playing, also had a regional championship in '14 during that time. We've also produced countless collegiate signees in that time period. That's what it takes to be a top 20 program in 5A and be considered average. You would certainly have to consider BH below average using those metrics. Yeah, nobody expected him to turn BH into Allen but he should've at least turned them into Crosby.
  21. Crazy you said Abseck, I think that would be a good hire too. All those other guys BH should probably stay away from. I know that's easier said than done but all of those guys accept Abseck are what BH has been hiring to get the results you have. Todd Dodge - QB Cade Klubnick committed to Clemson Riley Dodge - QB Quin Ewers #1 ranked prospect in America in his class Scott Surratt - Other than La Vega has the most talent in all of 4A Brad Butler - QB Kyron Drones signed with Baylor. Most talent in 5A-D1 when they won the title with a 6A enrollment. Transfer heavy school with D1 talent everywhere Todd McVey - QB Jalen Milroe signed with Alabama and was probably the best offensive player in the Houston area besides Jaydon Blue. Record is pretty meh without Milroe those three years. Craig Stump - I would tie Atascocita with Westfield and Dickinson as having the most talent in the Houston area behind North Shore. They're not too far behind either, probably top 10 in the state talent-wise most years John Kay - On average coaches one of the top three most talented teams in the state regardless of class. For example, going into next year they already have 8 kids with FBS offers on the defensive side of the ball alone. Carl Abseck - Maybe. Can BH pay enough to pull him away from the ritzy north Austin suburb? IDK, but CP is extremely good at the LOS for the 5A level and that won't translate to BH which may cause TW like results. All the guys above except Abseck have advantages that aren't there at BH. You have to remember these guys aren't used to coaching average players like BH has. Hiring one of these guys will probably yield the same results as Gage or TW. Doesn't hurt to try though.
  22. Keotting coaches at a lower level but he's pretty much what they've already been hiring. Koetting is already older like Westerberg and Gage were and they have talent near the top of their class. After seeing how it went for TW I think the biggest name they could potentially get is a guy like Carl Abseck at Cedar Park. If I was BH I would look hard in Central Texas where a bunch of winning teams do it with not much more than average talent. If they're not going to go the Riordan-type route then IMO a guy like Trey Sissom at FB Travis would be the perfect fit. BH doesn't produce rbs so a system like Sissom's would be ideal if they continue to play relative decent defense. I also like a guy like Brandon Schmidt at Prosper who does it against tough competition with slightly above average talent.
  23. So does this mean we start penciling BH back in for 6th place finishes since Westerberg and his four titles could only average 3rd place? I mean, I guess there's always a possibility they could hire Scott Surratt and start finishing a solid second though.
  24. I highly doubt Cowgill would fit the "image" of what BH is looking for in a head coach.
