  1. I would definitely argue that’s not the case. What I would say is that they have more money in the DFW than the average school does down here though. Do some of the conservative views hold back the Golden Triangle area? Absolutely. To say they’re holding back schools like Crosby and BH is incorrect though. “Modernizing” is part of the reason Crosby was in their financial situation they were a couple of years ago.
  2. Part of the reason Crosby made it to the title game this year was because of the depth they had across the board for a 5A-D2 squad. That’s one of the advantages of being towards the top of the class in enrollment. As far as reloading at the skill positions, I think we’re more than fine. Love what we have at qb in the program. I think we’re three deep there but I think Myles potential to be a 2500/1000 player keeps him the job. The backs and receivers should take a dip from the Branch/Dunn/Herman combination but there’s a lot of young talent waiting to replace them. It’s going to be a matter of how fast/well/much they develop. I expect Crosby to be ahead of other teams in the district with the development of their young talent since pretty much every player that’ll be on varsity got a year and a half worth of practice this season. Defense will be our issue. Lost a lot of good high school football players on that side of the ball. Depending on how well the defense reloads is what I think determines a 9-4 or 10-3+ record for the Cougars. Crosby could possibly put a better team on the field than the one they did this year and still finish with an 11-2 record and a 3rd round loss to FBM. Crazy how that works out. 2022 though . . . Man!
  3. Hopefully Crosby can keep their same 2020 original non-district schedule of Carthage, Manvel and PAM. Games will be good tests for a very young team.
  4. If Chris Marshall plays for FB Marshall next year and that team stays relatively healthy I expect them to be playing for a 5A-D2 title again. Might end up being better then their ‘19 team with Hornsby and Achane. Katy, as long as they can play D2. ‘21 might actually be the year Katy could win a D1 title and make a run like Westlake did the past couple of years. La Vega/Argyle winner SLC/Duncanville winner
  5. Poor execution and decision making by Crosby mixed with poor tackling on defense. Doesn’t look like we’ll do it again but we’ve won from here before. JoJo Earle and Demarco Roberts are just better than our guys. Killing us with that trap play up the middle.
  6. Man, that was supposed to be a crucial three and out.
  7. My mom is friends with Charlie’s mom, they went to high school together in Crosby. I’m sure there were plenty other candidates, none of them had the #1 recruit in the country though.
  8. Dunn’s are even longer than his. They would have to short themselves 5k yards of offense for a haircut, lol. Think of the players TW would’ve lost if they had that rule at Allen?
  9. BH gave Ponda Collier, Charlie’s mom, a lot of money to take a job in the district which allowed her to transfer legally to play basketball. Crazy part is if she would’ve stayed she probably helps Crosby beat Canyon at the state tournament and win a title. It makes perfect financial sense on why they moved. Casey stayed because they were already there. Probably won’t get another one in football from Crosby unless he just can’t play here. Matter of fact, y’all might get a qb from us? Crosby with the big head? Have you been seeing your post for the past year and off-season? You would’ve thought y’all were going to win the district or something.
  10. Not even close. Ball was at the 1 1/2 yardline and you can tell by number 16’s reaction that Crosby recovered it, plus I’m pretty sure that only the player that fumbles can advance the ball in OT in high school. I don’t think he walks right in either? I think #42’s footwork/timing got off because he saw #90 break through from Crosby and it led to a bad handoff.
  11. Definitely disagree. There’s not a coach in the state of Texas you can walk up to and say Phil Danaher isn’t elite and be taken seriously. The reverse of your question is what if a guy wins two state titles at 11-5 but his overall record looks like Jeff Matthews’. You’re saying that’s elite? Terry Gambill has won a title while at Allen and will probably win another one. He didn’t win any at Midway and only got out of the region once but now since he’s at Allen and will win a couple he’s elite? Meanwhile Westerberg, who won multiple titles while at Allen, is at BH and probably won’t win another one before he retires. Did he get un-elite because he’s struggling to finish above 3rd in his own district now? Reginald Samples took Dallas Lincoln to the 4A title game in his first head coaching job, took Dallas Skyline to the 6A semis multiple times and lost to Allen in his second one, then went to Duncanville and took them to back to back title games. Basically if you have Samples on your sideline you’re going to play for a title at some point. That’s about as elite as it gets. It’s harder for me to view some coaches as elite when you literally have dang near every built in advantage possible. I wish Crosby got to play trash teams in the playoffs like you pointed out instead of teams that were a combined 53-3 like we just did, the last four of which were a combined 46-0.
  12. They can execute like them all they want. Unless they switch personnel with LH they’ll probably have similar results to their current ones. Vidor’s slot-t would be harder to defend than LH’s IMO they had the same personnel. Easy to see how they knocked off Carthage in the semis a couple of years ago.
  13. Preston has been at A&M for three years and is still struggling to get on the field. Preston was highly ranked for his big play ability but it was mostly catch and run stuff off short passes/screens. That’s why he keeps getting outplayed by 3-star kids. Marshall is a better route runner, runs more routes from the tree, has better hands and better ball skills. IDK about the pure top end speed but he’s quicker in short areas than Preston and is lighter but plays with the same physicality. Where Preston is struggling to play to his rating, I think Marshall would be the best receiver and NFL prospect on A&M’s roster. Also think, this is his first year even playing football.
  14. Interesting fact: Crosby is the only one of 8 teams playing this weekend who hasn’t made at least four title game appearances. Cedar Park is the one with the 4 but has only been opened since 1998.
  15. This may be the highest per capita household income game ever to be played in a UIL state championship? Whoever wins this game gets to be the man that beat the man that beat the man. I think North Shore is still the best team in the state but a three turnover day caused the not to be that afternoon against Westlake. More than any other year I can think of, which happens to also be the UIL’s 100th, the 2020 5A and 6A championship games highlight the dichotomy of THSF. Two things get you to a title game. 1) The best athlete x coach combination which is Crosby, Cedar Hill and Denton Ryan. 2) The best money x athlete combination which is SLC, Westlake, Aledo, Cedar Park and Katy. Those combinations mean less the further you drop in classifications where individual players have more of an impact but I think I’m the big divisions it draws a pretty clear picture of who actually has a “chance” when the season starts.
  16. Woodberry got singled up all day by one of Crosby’s corners and got his. Our corner made the plays that were needed though, including a crucial one late. Crosby pretty much played Marshall straight up. Crosby started to shade and help over the top some in the second half before he got ejected but it wasn’t anything outside the normal coverage you would play on a kid that needs extra attention. They may not be the highest rated players but the best two high school receivers I’ve seen Crosby in the field with is Jalen Preston from Manvel and AJ Dugat from Dayton. Marshall is significantly better than those two and he’s just a junior. I mentioned all that to say there’s no question Earle is going to get his. However, I like how Crosby matches up the rest of the way outside. I think Crosby’s offense is going to have decent success against Aledo’s defense. The biggest question for Crosby is going to be how well we contain Demarco Roberts? We do a good job there and Crosby’s chances to come home with a ring greatly increase.
  17. There’s a difference in backyard football and scrambling to get away from pressure. Crosby didn’t play backyard football either if you’re not going to call the time LJ’s qb scrambled and hit Westerfeldt the same thing. Our offenses definitely are different, if Dunn or Branch get lose on some of those keepers or scrambles that LJ’s qb did they won’t just be first downs, they’ll be chunk plays. Lol, one fan says Crosby just needs to see it as another game. I said they would and the very next Aledo fan says they won’t because it’s state. That’s what I was mentioning in the other post. Smh, if that premise really held up then CS, Cedar Park, George Ranch and Shadow Creek wouldn’t have titles after opening relatively recently. Not to mention GR won theirs after slaughtering Lake Ridge in the title game who was fresh off a drubbing of Aledo in the semifinal game. I can say the same when Aledo won their first title in ‘98 against Cuero who already had multiple titles at the time. I’d imagine you have some reason Aledo was able to win that game and whatever it is you can extrapolate over to Crosby this week. You see “don’t know how to lose”, I see “gettable” so we’ll definitely continue to differ there. I don’t need to gather anything, I said it’s obviously legal. Nowhere else in the state do you have only 36 in 1,800+ of one type of kid, 20+ probably play football and account for 90% of your D1 talent. Like I said though, that too will be irrelevant come 1pm Friday.
  18. Comparison between the two schools. Looks just fine to me:
  19. Crosby has already overcome a lot this year, and for that matter they've overcome a lot the past two or three years. Obviously all the things you laid out as to why Aledo has the advantage over Crosby didn't apply when you played College Station who had only been playing varsity football a few seasons when you lost to them in the title game. I'm sure y'all were point out how Aledo was going for ring number 7 and that they were going to be happy just to be there. Y'all were wrong then and hopefully you're wrong again this week. Crosby athletes walk on the field expecting to win too. Aledo won't be the biggest, fastest or most athletic team Crosby has played this year. This will just be another game against a good team like the last four we've played. Kids have never have been wide-eyed and still won't just because the team they're lining up from has won a lot of games. It's weird you say the "make something happen" plays won't work against Aledo when I just watched an entire game of LJ's qb making things happen just like that to the tune of 48 points. They did it with 0 running game and some qb keepers/scrambles. Aledo blocked that punt late to swing momentum but y'all were basically outplayed by LJ for 40 mins. Crosby has scored 60+ in 3 of 5 playoff games so we rarely have a problem getting started. I fully expect Crosby to be in the game regardless of how we start though. This isn't the Johnathan Gray teams of years' past. This version of Aledo is more than gettable and I like Crosby chances to do so. I hope it's great game too! It's just going to be abrasive all week to hear the Aledo fans talk about how great they are because of; Insert X reason. Yes Aledo has a great program but every degenerate THSF fan like me knows it probably has more to do with their talent acquisition capabilities versus all the other stuff you listed. The largest anomaly in THSF is the way Aledo's normal student population looks versus they way their D1 signees look. UIL says it's legal though, so we're going to line up and try to take y'all out just like everybody else we weren't supposed to.
  20. There are currently two teams left playing. What do you think Crosby has been doing?
  21. I don’t think they need the Orange Bowl MVP, they may have the Sugar Bowl MVP playing wide receiver right now. I think it’s a relatively accurate statement to say Huntsville had the best defense in the state in D2, FBM may have been second though? Wilson just wasn’t ready to lead that Hornet offense as deep as that defense was capable of taking it. Oddly enough I don’t think HHS wouldn’t have had near the trouble with LH that Crosby did.
  22. 1. FBM - If they play their best game they’re going to beat all those other teams more times than they’ll lost to them. 2. Huntsville - I think they’re tied with with FBM defensively. FBM hands down has the better offense so I put them ahead. 3. LH - They scored a lot of points on Crosby with that offense but I’d imagine they could only get half that on FBM or Huntsville. The way FBM held Calallen to 17 points in that semifinal game a few years ago lets me know their staff can defend that style offense. They would score the same 60 Crosby did offensively. The Bobino brothers would just smother the entire inside against LH so I think it’s an even worse matchup for them. 4. Texas High - several 5A teams down here would beat them
  23. There’s an argument for Reginald Samples or Phil Danaher to currently be the best coaches in THSF. Probably 650 career wins but 0 state titles between them. You don’t think those guys are elite but somebody like Tom Westerberg, who’s only finished above 3rd place once in his time at BH I believe, is for his work at Allen which consisted of multiple state titles? Go tell another high school coach that Kirk Martin and Glen West aren’t elite for what they did at Manvel and Brenham. How do you know Crosby’s coach isn’t elite too? He’s going to be coaching for a title in his 28th career game, Tim Buchanan didn’t coach for a title until his 73rd career game at Aledo.
