Yeah, we had a run where we went 32-0 or 31-1 back when Humble was in the district and lost to Terry in the regional final. I believe Terry either won or played for the state title that year? You’re right though, baseball is higher on the totem pole that basketball is these days. There are kids I know for sure willing to come from Channelview, Baytown and CE King if Crosby gave a crap about basketball. We just have kind of a Jeff Nations situation going on with that program right now.

What I would say is congrats to BH. I really wouldn’t poke at Crosby though. BH won the district and much like PNG if you can do that you get a much easier draw. The team BH drew in the second round had already lost to Marshall 35-8 during the regular season before Huntsville beat Marshall 35-12 in the first round, that’s normally a first round game in the old format. Playoffs are about matchups and BH got a good draw before they got Manvel, could’ve easily gotten A&M Con. in the second round like FB Marshall did had we been playing from a different place in the region. Again, congrats to BH. This is by far their best season since they came from 3A. Watch what Crosby puts together next year if they can stay healthy though, I fully expect for them at a minimum to win the region again.

I agree with you for the most part. I would say with a 19 year old son though, nobody is coming to BH looking for girls except the kids from state streets in Baytown. Seems like North Shore, Atascocita and Kingwood are the places for that. With athletics I would add a disclaimer that says “mainly girls sports”, even though we’ve lost to BH at multiple things the last couple of years. Crosby just had their second player in 5 years make an NFL regular season roster, had probably their 6th kid drafted to the majors after starring in the college World Series and are about to produce our first WNBA player. Again though, I agree with you. Crosby is the largest school in the district, they shouldn’t lose at anything to BH except girls volleyball and softball.

If at the beginning of the year you would’ve said Coach P would have Crosby looking like the teams of old by mid-November, I think every Crosby fan would’ve taken it. Crosby set the school playoff scoring record last game, without going back to look at the La Marque and Elgin scores I’ll say we probably came close to setting the playoff record for points allowed in this one. There comes a time when averaging 57 per game in the playoffs should at least get you to Thanksgiving. That being said, it was a solid first year under the new regime. Taking into consideration what Crosby has coming back I expect them to be VERY good next year.

I mean, smh . . . a kick return man . . . Let’s just come out and get a stop Crosby. We’ve already show we can hit multiple big plays on their defense.
-
I said Marshall is a good comparison to what Crosby will put on the field and they scored 12 points on Huntsville. I don’t think anybody here is trying to compare FBW’s defense and Huntsville’s.

I wonder why Dayton wouldn’t just call Jeff Riordan and see if he wants the job? I know he would love to come kick Crosby’s arse. Have to give him the AD job and let him clean house though. -

BH’s talent level vs the competition is no higher now than it was when they were finishing 6th in the district. Their players are better because they’re being coached up though. Dayton is growing slower than the surrounding areas so they’re going to be in 5A-D2 for a while. You don’t need Cody Green and AJ Dugat to win down here, they would be just fine with players like the little Herrera kid that played qb and had Dayton in the regional round. -

That’s pretty duh statement, of course you can only win games with Hispanics in those places because that’s all that freaking lives there. You’re killing your own argument. NS used to be basically all white and sucked at football, now “Hispanics have taken over” and the black and white population of the school combines to less than 30% of the total and they’re winning state titles. You can apply the same logic to Duncanville who’s majority Hispanic now as well. My wife graduated from Dallas Skyline. They’re 75% Hispanic and have a similar enrollment to NS. Up until recently they were basically DFW’s version of NS. Now they suck because their coach went to Duncanville. Go look at the before and after records for both teams and you’ll see the differences. Hispanics moving in make your enrollment go up, they don’t make you sorry all of a sudden. Dayton doesn’t have a problem with Hispanics ruining their football program. Dayton had the fewest black kids I can ever remember seeing on their team the past couple years we played. They have a problem with a crappy coach and low participation rates. You’re misconstruing regentrification with simply having additional enrollment that happens to be Hispanic. -

If this was the case North Shore’s football program would’ve died a long time ago seeing as how they’re 70% Hispanic. They still have athletes, you have to make them want to be a part of something though. What spells disaster is hiring somebody because they go to the same church. -

I’m not sure how many people from Dayton were really high on Nations? He hasn’t coached a game in five years. The explanation is he coached on a staff with Jerry Stewart. -
My estimation is that BH paid about $1 million to the Westeberg family for that district championship. TW has been there 3 years and BH employees TW, his wife, his son and his son’s wife. If TW makes $154k then you can assume the other three split around $200k putting you in the $350k annually neighborhood. I guess we got a bargain on Coach Prieto for having us in the area round his first year here while he’s probably the second lowest paid coach in the district? Keep in mind, BH’s best player is Casey Collier. They also had to give his mom a job to get them to transfer out of Crosby when his sister was in school. They have a whole lot invested in this.

Quote from Marshall poster regarding their game against Huntsville last week: “As long as Crosby can block that D line they should win big. Marshall’s defense was just bad last week and it was 6-7 at the half. Marshall’s D hasn’t been great all year, we just out scored. We were one dimensional just running. Huntsville’s passing game was pretty bad. QB missed a lot of open WRs.” IDK if I agree with him about winning big but this is what I was pointing out in an earlier post about Huntsville’s performance. I realize there’s probably going to be some bias in his assessment considering he’s a Marshall fan but Marshall is a pretty reasonable comparison to what Crosby currently puts on the field.

I would imagine this is the "re-assignment" path Dayton has to go down until Nations contract is up? Hopefully this won't lead to Crosby losing a coach since Dayton probably won't have the same hiring restrictions. I would think Dayton has learned their lesson about trying to permanently handle their HC position like this after the Stewart debacle. -

La Porte is a lot better at football than any of the Baytown schools have been since the Dick Olin days at Lee. Their old coach retired last year and they have a new guy this season. I bet La Porte has played in close to 25 playoff games the last 15 years, they've just had a rough past couple. They have a lot of talent for dropping a classification. I'm sure they'll be back making deep runs in a year or two, maybe next year. -

He's only won one playoff game so far so it's still a possibility. I know that's hard for you to probably fathom considering y'all would build him a statue on Baker if he had this type of season over there. -

I guess you always have to look at the bright side. When you have only won 5 district games in the last 5 years "chances" are really all you have to look forward to on Friday nights. Don't worry though, we'll but up there at the next alignment wearing y'all out with transfers from your own school. -
If you mean when they had RJ then, alright. Otherwise it would’ve been insulting enough for you to call us a glorified Dayton.

I have zero information on who calls plays now. I’m basing it off who did what on the sideline when Crosby had the ball earlier in the year and who did what when Crosby had the ball Friday. It was noticed later in the game so maybe Coach P still does call plays and this was just the case because we were blowing them out but we look like old Crosby Friday. That’s really all I care to say about it. I’ll just say I give our new head coach credit for taking us from looking like dumpster fire to just flat out being on fire.

Man, all the Baytown schools in one district and GCCISD still won't have a representative in the football playoffs -
This is exactly my point. ALL of their impact players are seniors this year and they've still performed the way they have. They had a rb that ran for about 1,200 yards and a receiver that had about 1,200 yards. It looks more to me like they miss those gamebreakers than anything having to do with health. They also had a four star d-linemen who's now at Texas that the rest of the defense could play off of, a kid like Sweat makes all your defensive linemen as well as the secondary better. Huntsville is just big on the defensive line, I don't think they have an advantage anywhere else on the field. Maybe the qbs are a toss-up but I would take Branch's 21 carries for 233 yards and 5tds in bi-district over Southern's stat line from Marshall which is pretty much how his numbers have looked all year except for CS where they trailed the whole game and he put up a bunch of passing yards. All I can say is that Crosby is playing with a bunch of confidence right now. It looks like Coach Prieto has given up the play-callling duties and the offense is performing a lot better. I never feel good about second round games based on Crosby's history in them but I will say I haven't been this optimistic about our opportunities in one since 2009.

Not sure where you’re getting your info? Matthew Southern went 32-44 for 301 yards with 1 td and 1 int in a 29-13 loss to College Station. If he played 2 quarters against PNG it was the only game all season he didn’t register a single passing attempt or rushing yards. He was hurt against Lake Creek on the first drive and had a stat line of 1-2 for 3 yards, he missed the Rudder game that followed. He was 12-21 for 147 yards and 0 tds against Marshall last week. They probably only had 270 yards of total offense. Huntsville’s stud rb graduated last year. Neither the Riggins or Meyers kid they have running the ball will be much of a factor for Crosby, Huntsville’s rb would probably only start for 3 teams in our district. I agree all those stats don’t mean anything, I’m just tying to figure out how someone has looked at what Huntsville has done this year and think they’ll roll Crosby. They haven’t blown out anybody except bad teams. I wouldn’t call a one score game in the 4th with Marshall until the wr playing qb threw a terrible pick a real blowout. Seems like people are basing their opinions off last year when they had a lot better players. If Marshall’s qb hadn’t transferred this year I don’t think Huntsville would’ve stayed anywhere close to them.
-
I see talk of the qb coming back and while he’s better than the backup I’ll also point a couple of things out. Huntsville’s qb got hurt against Lake Creek a few weeks ago and missed the last game of the season, he played in the rest. In the full games he’s played he averages about 175ypg passing and has 11 tds with 7 ints. He has 129 rushing yards on the season and is not a running threat at all except around the goal line. 5 of those tds passes came against struggling Cleveland, 4 of the ints came against Cons. though. FBW’s qb is a better prospect, plus the Hornets only average 93ypg rushing as a team. Huntsville’s o-line is good size but I honestly feel their offense is a better matchup for Crosby’s defense than FBW’s was. All that being said, it doesn’t matter if Crosby can gets stops if they can’t score themselves. I think this is where the Crosby athletes come into play though. We may not be able to run the ball with much consistency against their front but we may be able to hit 5 or 6 big plays which is all we might need. They only averaged about 25ppg against the playoff teams on their schedule and the qb played in all of them except PNG. I expect this one to be pretty tight unless Crosby turns it over.

Area round game from Randall Reed Stadium in New Caney 11/23 @2pm I guess Code Red ain’t dead? Coming off a game where they set the school playoff scoring record (70) Crosby draws the #4 seed from district 10-5A in the Huntsville Hornets. Huntsville knocked off undefeated district champion Marshall from 9-5A in the opening round. Matchup wise I think this one is pretty simple. Huntsville has two three star prospects in the front seven and two 270+ pound defensive linemen to pair with them. If Crosby can run the ball the way they have the last three weeks they’re probably going to win the game. It’s going to look a lot like what we faced against Manvel so it’s a tall order regardless and probably the first time Crosby feels the loss of who I think was our best offensive lineman. If Crosby can limit the penalties and turnovers they should have some success on Huntsville’s defense. It’s good but it’s not T’Vondre Sweat good anymore. Offensively I think it’s safe to say Huntsville is qb driven. Their offense isn’t as good as the regional final team last year but it could be a bad matchup for Crosby. QB is the coach’s son and very good at running the offense plus he’s played in big games during their run last season. I believe he was hurt a few games ago and came back against Marshall last week. QB will run even less than the one from FBW but gets it out of his hand quick to some solid receivers. Just not real sure how to feel about facing a pass-heavy team after giving up 476 to FBW’s qb in basically three quarters?
