Barbers Hill 42 Houston Sterling 0/FINAL
Cougar14.2 replied to BHFAN's topic in High School Football
Magnolia scored 35, Kingwood Park scored 35 and PNG just scored 35. That’s pretty much a 1/3 of your games where you gave up 35 points on a weak schedule. I believe that was Branch’s first game even playing and Dunn played a good portion of the game at qb, he looks completely different now after a few games. BH’s defense was greatly helped by the wind that night too, to the point Crosby didn’t even punt past the sticks one time in the first quarter plus an awful interception. Crosby’s defense held PNG to 7 while BH gave up 35. If I do what you did with Crosby and Manvel I can also say BH’s defense isn’t good because PNG only scored 30+ points four times all year. 4A Silsbee, a bad Lee defense, a worse Dayton defense and BH. You’re still judging the way you played off a Crosby team that isn’t very good. There’s a reason BH hasn’t ever won a playoff game in 5A, reality rolls around in November. -

You probably shouldn’t apply the transitive property to the scores in other districts. Houston Sterling was up by 20 on Willowridge in the 4th quarter before they came back. BH will probably win but I doubt it’s anything like 41-14, probably closer to 42-35. If you really look at BH’s defense they gives up about 35ppg to spread offenses that can actually execute. You’re also making the assumption that BH is as good as Manvel, FB Marshall and FB Elkins in order to blow them out. Players like Brown make Sterling’s speedy receivers even tougher to deal with. Like I said, I think BH wins but I wouldn’t go into this game thinking you’re going to roll. -
It’s a little bit of both. Their defenses aren’t great, I think everybody except Nederland has a chance to score 30+. What they do have is elite offensive players in the district though, we don’t have one FBS commit in the district at the offensive skill positions. BH is going to face the best rb in Houston ISD in their matchup and Sterling also has a solid qb with some ridiculously fast receivers. Our defenses look better because our offenses aren’t as explosive so you get longer times of possessions and less points. If Crosby and BH are going to win they’re Probably going to need to 35+

Playoff games are about matchups, and PNG just drew the worst one by getting the best player in the region. I’ve seen Aledo and Calallen stop him but that’s about it. If PNG does any better against Achane than 15 carries for 200 yards and a few tds it’ll be a good job. FB Marshall put over 50 on PNG and beat them by 40 last year so I think PNG fans know limiting the damage Malik Hornsby does to you is the real key. Only bright spot in this one is that all their studs graduate this season so PNG will have a better shot in 2020 should they draw FB Marshall a third consecutive year.

Somehow Crosby finishes second in the district after a 1-3 start and gets rewarded with a home playoff game at Cougar Stadium formerly known as “The Jungle”. Willowridge squeaked by Houston Sterling 51-48 in the season finale to secure 3rd place from 11-5A. Willowridge also played Manvel to a 41-49 count earlier in district play and led a good portion of the game until about midway through the 4th quarter. Very good athletes for Willowridge. They have a very good scrambling 6’-4” qb named Rufus Scott who should end up with some FBS offers after his junior year and an electric sophomore rb named Jamarcus Buckner who rushed for over 1,000 yards during the regular season. Scott isn’t the best passer but he has three good receivers he gets the ball to pretty effectively. They’re big up front on the o-line but I think it’s about as favorable a matchup you could ask for considering the options. I think Crosby would’ve struggled a lot more with Houston Sterling’s read option due to them having what I think is the 2nd best rb in the region. If Crosby can keep the pre-snap penalties down and limit turnovers I really like our chances. Last couple of weeks Crosby looks like they’ve developed the RPO game and Branch looks more and more comfortable. I like our matchups on the offensive side of the ball, especially with #5 playing both ways now but this game will come down to Crosby getting off the field on 3rd down defensively. Have to limit the qb killing you with his legs.

Ned lost to Marshall by 40 last year. Why would you want to play Manvel like that? Manvel isn’t loaded like the Kirk Martin teams of the past because Martin is at Syracuse and Alvin ISD built the Shadow Creek Ranch neighborhood their own school instead of having them combined with Manvel. Manvel has the best win in the state in 5A-D2. I still think FB Marshall is the best team in the region though. Our 5A’s just don’t match up well with the real contenders this alignment unless you have players like RJ.

BI-DISTRICT MATCH UPS/POST INFORMATION HERE!
Cougar14.2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
FB Willowridge and Houston Sterling don’t play until tonight after FB Marshall. I’m sure Crosby and BH’s coaching staffs will be in attendance. -
I mean, we’re still not “good”. We just have more talent than everybody else in the district and were able to squeak out some wins despite the coaching. Other than a bad first quarter against BH(coaching) in a windstorm where we got down 21-0, Crosby has played pretty decent since losing to Vidor. QB is starting to put the numbers together I figured he would if he had gotten cleared to start the season.
-
Crosby finishes off a struggling opponent the way you’re supposed to going into the playoffs. Crosby puts up their first 50 point game under the new staff as well as their first 600 yard output. I’m not certain but I also believe this is our first turnover free game this season and the least pre-snap penalties we’ve had all year. It’s how you want to look at the end of the season, even if it’s only for one more week. Solid stat line for the transfer qb making his 4th start: 15-22, 265 yards and 3tds/13 carries for 126 yards and 2tds
-
I like your chances too but it’s a tough matchup. NC going to have a disadvantage at the line of scrimmage and the way they score is by being super reliant on Childress to run the ball from the qb spot. The way those teams win is by playing elite defense, especially against the qb run. This isn’t Westlake vs Steele in the first round but it will be that kind of disappointment for someone after y’alls matchup.
-
I would say 1-5. Angleton could probably win 9-5A D1. They’re the most physically impressive team Crosby has been on the field with this year. I think Hightower is the most beatable but you might see all 4 teams from their district go three deep. Similar to what the Spring district did in 6A a while back.
-
Well, New Caney could end up with the most dreaded record in THSF, 10-1. Last team I remember to do that was FB Hightower who was in a similar situation as NC. In a district where powerhouse Angleton doesn’t even make the playoffs, NC gets freaking Richmond Foster in the first round😟😟😟 Foster is the only team all year to play Shadow Creek within a score.

Yep, our season was supposed to be over so I’m allowing myself to post again. Despite Coach Prieto almost snatching defeat from the jaws of victory last week against Ned by not kneeling the ball, Code Red is back in the playoffs for the 14th time in 15 years. Ned and PNG have no chance of winning their playoff games but Crosby is going to get a good matchup against FB Willowridge and BH gets a worse matchup against Houston Sterling but a very winnable one and an excellent chance for a couple playoff wins before they get Manvel.
-
We’re about to go 1-8. You won’t have to worry about it this season. All my post from here on out would most likely be degrading the new coach and I know that gets old reading it, even if it’s the truth. Our district is bad, it’s made better by only having 126/7 schools in the class now. I figured coach Prieto would be competent enough with the talent he had to beat less talented teams. He’s as bad as I thought he was though and he can’t. Even the 1 win this year may be a stretch by the time Crosby plays Santa Fe.
-
Whose kids? Vidor’s or Crosby’s? I’m not ashamed of anything snowflake. Ask Boneyard Boys, Realville, MTC and the other Vidor guy that I think works at Exxon in Beaumont(if he was there) where they would rank the 4 Vidor teams that have played Crosby since 2011 and where they would rank this Vidor team. They’re realistic Vidor fans and would tell you the same thing I’m saying without the adjectives. I feel bad for the flooding in your community but kids in Crosby got flooded too. If I said some random school in Dallas was a bad team you would have 0 issue with it, hence my snowflake comment. I’m good though, good luck to y’all.
-
Vidor is a bad football team. This is without question the worst Vidor team Crosby has played since their initial matchup in 2011. Congrats to them though, they won the game. With that being said, Jerry Prieto is turning Crosby into something even worse than that. We may be the worst team in the district. We’re HISD level. I tried to have a little optimism after predicting a 3-7 season soon as they hired this guy but I’m going to have to update that prediction to 1-8. Hopefully some school board member were there and see how I’m over his head this guy is. Crosby runs a junior high level offense and executes it like a peewee squad. I would go ahead and say the season is finished. No passion on the sideline, putrid coaching, poor discipline, zero fan support and with this start Prieto is probably already close to losing the team. This was the new supt.’s guy from the beginning though, and he’s going to be allowed to go 1-19 in his first two years like Jeff Nations did with no repercussions if need be. Crosby is a sub-par program right now and will continue to be as long as we have this coach. No use wasting anymore time thinking Crosby will be anything different than they already are under this laughable excuse for a head coach. Probably my last post for the season seeing as how this is the most positive analysis I could come up with.

Baytown Lee vs PNG after the bye week
Cougar14.2 replied to prepballfan's topic in High School Football
Yes, I surely have which is why even though Lee is averaging over 50 points I said they’re probably not the favorite. I honestly thought that would go without saying, guess not? I said I wouldn’t be surprised if PNG loses because they don’t have RJ and might end up in a shootout. -
Baytown Lee vs PNG after the bye week
Cougar14.2 replied to prepballfan's topic in High School Football
Through three games Ijenea Woosley has 12 tds and 0 picks, he’s completing right at 70% of his passes while averaging almost 10ypc. He’ll probably be the district MVP this year. Including Woosley, Lee has three kids that are averaging over 9ypc. I don’t think Lee is the favorite in this game but I don’t think it’s really an upset if they beat PNG this year. -
Port Arthur Memorial 27 Galena Park 8/FINAL
Cougar14.2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
This is an interesting score. Baytown Lee beat Galena Park 54-27 in their last game. -
Huntsville is a different team without T’Vondre Sweat. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them get beat by a couple scores tonight, they do get to play at home though. Fedora is going to be a problem for the foreseeable future in region 3 unless he takes a college job. Cons. should be in a group of three with Manvel and FB Marshall that are favorites to win the region. Even though FB Marshall already lost to Manvel this year I still they’re the better team.
-
I didn’t expect this one to be nail-biter before the storm and I think Crosby has even more of an advantage now. Was surprised to see Vidor lose to a Montgomery team that will have multiple 30+ point losses themselves this year. Looks like Vidor has switched to some variation of a 3-4 defense this year. I’m not sure that’s beneficial to the personnel they have on the defensive line? Vidor likes to walk up those two outside LB/SS types to help set the edge meaning there’s a lot of matchups in the secondary Crosby should be able to win. Will be interesting to see if the qb is eligible tonight? Either way, Coach Prieto should get his first win tonight just with the advantage he has in the trenches.
-
Vidor barely broke 300 yards rushing that game on like 70 carries. Crosby is the team averaged close to 10ypc and had over 400 yards. Crosby had turnovers and probably over 100 yards in penalties. Not that the actual facts of the game matter on here, but Crosby couldn’t stop the 3 and 4 yard carries and lost to a team that played better than them that night.
-
We beat PNG with TCU signee Dominic Merka also, another dynamic player. Also lost with him. We won more games and went further without those dynamic players because the next years we had even better players overall. Point is that we always have those kids, y’all don’t. You don’t win those games without RJ, he literally accounted for every single td one game. Y’all won, you deserve all the credit. I’ve seen Crosby lose to enough great players to realize that’s why we lost, not because of how good the program is or how much tradition you have. I felt the same way when Crosby lost to Nederland in 2012 with Deshawn Washington, they were only that good because of him and haven’t been as good since. They lost every matchup they played against Crosby without him until last year when we had mailed it in. That wasn’t a popular statement then and the RJ one isn’t now. It’s a fact though, all the number show it for both teams. I think they going to be closer to 1,900 but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Crosby’s enrollment is close to 2,000. We better to be able to beat a team who without a player like RJ on average has middle of the class talent. If Crosby can’t beat a team like PNG regularly, how can we expect to do anything more than win a district championship. PNG may be top 10 in DCTF but if you really allowed all the DFW/East Texas schools to be ranked it would be closer to #25. That’s what I know and that’s what I judge Crosby of where they need to be vs where they painfully are at times. Remember how trash New Caney was 10 years ago. Same name but you think that’s the same school?
-
Absolutely it matters. I’ve learned long ago Crosby needs 4 state championships to be considered a better program. But to your point, yeah. Those wins 20 years ago have 0 bearing on what I think the programs are today. Crosby could go 3-7 and lose to PNG this year and I would still feel the same way. Those wins overlap from the end of PNG being really good and Crosby being bad from the 90’s into the early 2000’s. Probably 6 wins for PNG in those years. They earned them, we sucked and they didn’t. My whole point is that PNG never has kids like RJ, especially that play qb. It took them having that type of player working his magic in the last minutes to beat us the last two years. Switch those and recent history looks different. They literally went for playing for a state title to falling off a cliff and haven’t had a run like the past three years since. I’m saying RJ is the sole reason for that, otherwise PNG doesn’t really fit the profile for a team that can even win the region, much less a title. I think that Crosby with a quickly growing population and enrollment vs PNG with a pretty stagnant one has a better chance on average of producing a better football team. Crosby and PNG used to have similar enrollments, now they’re pulling away enrollment wise and should theoretically start to have better and better players than PNG. Therefore, even with what I think is a Flannigan-esque coach Crosby should be better year to year in today’s landscape. That’s how it works in the suburbs where they have a legitimate shot at winning. Crosby’s probably going to be 6A in six years, PNG might be knocking on the door of 4A-D1 in which they may be a juggernaut. What I’m saying should be a given.
-
Smh, I knew you were lying without even checking. If I’m not mistaken, which I’m not, the last team from this area to win the region was Crosby. Before that it was Dayton, when was PNG’s? We don’t recruit, the 3 qbs we’ve had go D1 in the last 5 are all from Crosby. Would be 4 out of 5 if Howard doesn’t tear up his knee. Same for for the backs and receivers. Don’t get butt hurt now and say we’re recruiting because because you got caught in a lie, and went back to see what y’all have really been without RJ. All that honor, pride, tradition has been all Roschon Johnson. Just accept that, that and the fact that you probably won’t get another RJ for 20 more years.
