  1. We’re not even in the same hemisphere as the real contenders around the state. Other than Katy and East Bernard, none of the schools that have won titles recently from down here do it with coaching and program. From NS to George Ranch all the way back to La Marque we’ve always won because of the level of athlete we could put on the field comparative to the classification. I was in Frisco watching my son play the other day and pulled into Independence High School on accident, I was looking for Heritage which was a half mile up on the same street. I sat in the stands for a while waiting for the game to start while the varsity practiced. After 30 mins I said, “They would beat any team on Crosby’s schedule by 20+”. They were 6-5, finished 4th in their own district and lost to Highland Park in the first round. Shadow Creek ran through the region in their first varsity season and played for a title, Lancaster was 7-4 last year and just as good as Shadow Creek. We compete to beat each other for bragging rights to get blown out in the playoffs, most of the 5A and 6A schools in Dallas play with a former state champion in the district. DFW and Austin are pulling away further and further on an annual basis. Houston suburbs are barely outplaying San Antonio at this point.
  2. Without even going all the way back I can for sure tell you Crosby and PNG haven't played 15 times since 2000. 3 or 4 years of glory, we made the playoffs for 14 years straight before our situation last year. PNG's longest playoff streak since 2000 is the current 5 year steak RJ is 60% responsible for. PNG made it past the area round once before RJ. Barring the last three years of RJ, Crosby also has more playoff wins since 2000. I can show you some more data on how y'all have really only had about 3 good years without him in that time but I don't want to seem too dumb. He was a great player who made up for a lot of warts, now you're back to trying to find another Adam Morse or Ky Walker. Nothing wrong with that, it's just a fact that in the changing Texas high school landscape your are what you are with out a unicorn wearing #2 leading the way.
  3. Enjoy that big boy. RJ is at Texas though. Now you’re back to being the same PNG you’ve been since the turn of the millennium. Y’all looked comical trying to run that draw play you used to with RJ, especially without Garth.
  4. Almost a decade on this site and you still run into the s.o.s. Even after Crosby has a trash year you literally can’t make a positive prediction using any pertinent data without finding one of these. Literally in one post the thread went from “a Crosby poster” breaking down their last game nobody here saw and making the statement, “I wouldn’t be surprised to see Crosby win 9 in a row based on some other things I’ve seen in the district so far”, to “a Crosby poster” saying “ they should run the table”. “Scoring will be rare without trick plays”. “WOS will not be able to handle Crosby’s o-line”, etc. That’s not even trash talking, it’s just pure bs in a place that was created to, I’d imagine, raise the knowledge level of what’s going on with high school sports in the coverage area.
  5. I guess you would have to say PNG doesn't have any "O" either this year? Crosby has played two games against two 5A opponents and scored 35 total points. PNG has played two games against two 5A opponents and scored exactly a field goal more. You can't possibly be talking about putting up points against Silsbee who gave up 52 to Newton the very next week and over 42ppg on average for the season so far?
  6. Looks like you're the only one has seen Crosby this year? This definitely isn't one of the Crosby teams of old but they way the new coach runs the offense is going to be harder for WOS to defend. I don't think these are the WOS teams of years past either though. Crosby was a dropped snap at the Manvel 3 from making it 34-39 and that's with their top receiver out. Kid had 4 catches for 145 on a very good NC secondary and will be back for WOS. Thing I liked from Crosby against Manvel is that they ran the ball for over 300 yards against a solid front and averaged right around 8ypc. Passing game needs work as far as completion percentages go but I'm not sure this coach is worried about that. With speed we have on the outside at receiver and the sheer amount of deep balls thrown, I think rather caught or not they serve their purpose which is to keep defenders out of the box. You can make the assumption though that IF they catch it they're gone. Crosby should haul in multiple deep balls against WOS but I think it's going to be the O-line firing off 40-50 times on running plays that will cause the most issues for the Mustangs, especially late. Defensively, if WOS doesn't use a trick play like they did last year to score right before the half I really don't see them breaking 21 on Crosby without Crosby getting a bunch of penalties which is highly likely. Manvel probably doesn't even break 30 if Crosby doesn't commit defensive penalties, mainly in the secondary, to extend a couple of their drives. Defense is a lot more aggressive than years past and probably the most talented since 2015, they'll make some splash plays but are somewhat inexperienced. If you don't have someone like Zion Childress running the ball from the qb spot then you're going to need a very good O-line and an accurate passer to really put points up against Crosby, they have plus athletes at all three levels on defense this year. This will be Crosby's only real road trip left on the schedule besides the one to PNG. Based on what I've seen from the district so far, I wouldn't be surprised if Crosby wins this one that they go ahead and peel off 9 in a row.
  7. Question I would ask here is, “Who has the best win, and who has the worst loss?” Lee has looked good so far but Dayton beat Lee’s toughest opponent to date worse than they did. PNG best Silsbee in a good game, Newton destroyed them the next week. They beat Tomball by 3 tds but Tomball Memorial already beat them by 5 tds I’m the opener. BH lost by 4 scores to Magnolia who was beat 49-0 the vey next week by Shadow Creek, but they probably have the best win in the district against KP. KP has already lost to Angleton by 30+ though. Crosby could beat WOS by a couple tds Friday and probably be the favorite next week. There’s still a lot of fluidity. Couple of predictions that I’ll make about Crosby; I expect them to have the best statistical defense in their 7 district games and I also expect them to rush for over 2,000 combined yards in those contest. Still need to figure something out in the passing game though.
  8. Man coach, as long as Crosby doesn’t drop the ball I don’t think they lose to WOS. They have two weeks to prepare and WOS will be coming off a physical road game with Newton themselves. Crosby has see their two most athletically/physically imposing opponents on their schedule. I’m a believer in the higher the classification, the more important role the line of scrimmage plays. Crosby ran the ball for over 300 yards on Manvel and averaged over 7.5ypc, that’s especially impressive considering sacks are factored into your rushing yards in high school. We can’t consistently throw the ball but nobody has really covered the receivers either yet. Offensively I think Crosby is going to be able to control the line of scrimmage once district play starts and pretty much run the ball on anybody. I think we execute poorly right now because the kids in key roles are young, plus they’re learning a new offense. No doubt three or four games from now they’ll be a completely different team. There’s nothing you’ve seen happen in the district so far except Lee destroying people that makes you say, “Dang, they’re good.” Even with no real qb and the team being a little light on discipline IMO, I don’t see why they can’t win the district playing this style ball. Crosby also has what should be the most favorable schedule in the district, outside of one trip to PNG I really don’t see a game I wouldn’t favor Crosby in. Depending on if Lee beats them first I might even change that.
  9. I know Crosby fans are disappointed with not even being able to break double digits for the first time since 2012(Rio’s first game), but look at the bright side. The 8 points Crosby scored on New Caney is probably 8 more than Prieto will be able to dial up in Brazoria County tomorrow. On the flip side I think the district is still weak enough to win. Probably not a good thing if you want Prieto gone though. With Crosby about to turn in an enrollment over 1,900 I would imagine this is the only year he has a shot at having a respectable record before the school board starts to hear rumbling. Was in Frisco watching my son play yesterday and you truly get the grasp of how far away the 5A schools in this coverage area are.
  10. Man, you must not have seen Crosby play after Howard got hurt? Good luck to him in Chapel Hill, he looked good in their first scrimmage but I haven't seen anybody start a game at qb for Crosby that was that inept since 2003. His dad was a coach though, so . . . ? Crosby lost absolutely nothing with that transfer, losing Noel Wright is a different story. I expected him to go for around 1,500 this year but there's another back in the pipeline I like and I'm sure there's another young Sqwirl, Walter or Casey to pair with him. If the qb gets cleared he's going to probably rush for 1,000+ yards himself in Prieto's offense.
  11. He's clear from the GCM side of things
  12. He definitely needs to improve but I saw him throwing darts in 7 on 7. It's hard to be effective when the rest of the team around him is low on talent and poorly coached like GCM was. GCM receivers couldn't get off coverage and when they did get open it was like watching an 8th grader run with the ball. I watched the PA Memorial film where it just looked like the kid was out there by himself. I don't expect this coach to rely on his passing skills, I expect that he's put into a position where he can maximize his running ability. His offense at Vet's looked a lot like what NC used to do with Jordan Cooper, lots of read option and quick high percentage passes.
  13. Similar numbers over the past decade and it's had no effect, especially as your enrollment increases and the talent pool expands. Prediction wouldn't seem strong at all if Howard doesn't tear his ACL in that mudhole.
  14. I still do think the coach is in over his head and expect to get killed by NC and Manvel. I feel like he can at least do as good a job as Westeberg does at BH considering the talent he fell into at Crosby and the fact that this district doesn't have any really good teams. Has absolutely nothing to do with the scrimmage, Crosby could've gotten killed and I would still feel the same way. That Kool-Aid comment is funny, y'all actually had to improve to get to sub-par under TW.
  15. If the QB gets cleared expect Crosby to win the district. If not, who knows? With him clear, Crosby in all likelihood is a 40+ ppg team. Should look pretty similar to how we did before Howard got hurt last year. QB ran a 10.6 100M as a sophomore last year. Just for context, Craig Williams ran 10.3 at the state meet as a senior. Lot of speed on the field even for a Crosby team, especially at receiver. Defense should be one of the better Crosby defenses even though that’s not saying much. With that being said there are still some things that need to come together to turn around last year’s train-wreck. Therefore, I really have no expectations.
  16. With the coach Crosby has hired there's absolutely no reason to think that they should finish better than 3-7 next year, but I'll tell you what? If this qb transfer gets signed off on we might look like we did the first four games of the season before Howard tore his ACL on Vidor's raggedy arse field last year. The way things have been going lately he probably won't though, meaning we'll be throttled by New Caney at home to open the season and all 500 Crosby fans that go to the next home game against Vidor including the "give him a chance people" will be expressing their angst for Coach Prieto early and often. So much to look forward to . . . On the flip side, watch what Coach Freeman goes over to CE King and does with their offense. He'll be coaching in the premier facility in East Harris County and has an explosion of athletes heading his way, leaving Crosby was a blessing in disguise as we turn into west-Dayton.
  17. Well, today with the loss of Coach Freeman Crosby's football program has officially reached joke status. Don't be surprised if you start to see some of the better athletes move away or just decide not to play for a puppet and .500 records start to be the norm. The previous ties Coach Prieto had with the supt. far outweighed his actual ability to coach which is why he got the job, that and his willingness to probably be the lowest paid coach in the district. Of course no supt. wants to lose but after Crosby goes 3-7 next year absolutely nothing will change because the excuse he'll have is that we can't afford to hire anybody, not that, "I came from a little backwoods town where I thought Joel Hancock would be a good hire so trust me on this one." The record will be better in 2020 because he'll schedule the same type trash he used to play in Corpus so that him and the supt will have improvement they can point to to tamp down the restlessness on the community. Look for Galena Park type schools to be on the schedule. Crosby's football program will effectively be a non-factor while the current supt. is in place and especially putrid while Coach Prieto is here, probably to the point where the season we missed the playoffs for the first time in 15 years is the highlight. Only hope for the foreseeable future is that Crosby can out-talent enough people to finish in fourth. I would be remised if I didn't point out that Crosby fired Kevin Flannigan with about a .700 record over his last 7 years with the team and 7 consecutive playoff appearances. With the trajectory Crosby is on and the yahoo we just hired look for us to digress to HISD level bad in everything except baseball and maybe girls softball. P.S. - I thought it was interesting from an impact standpoint which Rio left that one of the first things kids mentioned about the new coach is that they don't pray in the team huddle anymore.
  18. First off, I couldn't care less what your suggestion is. Secondly, I don't need you to articulate to me how good programs become great. Thirdly, if you think you need a graduate degree to coach at a bigger school you're sadly mistaken. More times than not fast rising coaches aren't going to initially have graduate degrees because they don't need them for the promotions they're in line for. Community support is something people on this board talk about for a program to be good. You ever seen FB Marshall play? They show up with more kids in the band than people in the stands and bust that ass. You need some athletes and a competent coach, see Reginald Samples Duncanville team from last year and what Claude Mathis did to Nederland with Marshall's athletes. Rio was making around $123k at Crosby, Deer Park offered around $140k. You're drastically overstating the offer he couldn't turn down, I've seen a text message from him and that's all I'll say here. If you think the parties just started you obviously don't know anything about the program, we were doing that kind of stuff in the 90's under Coach Dickey. Those have absolutely 0 to do with school funding, that straight out of parent's pockets. How does that correlate to the current financial situation, again you seem not to know what you're talking about? Rio had an issue because the supt. was walking up and down the sideline trying to have input on football decisions, any coach is going to have an issue with that. Beyond that he was trying to make decisions that should be specifically left to a head football coach. UT put together a search committee and ended up hiring Charlie Strong. I don't care how unbiased your intentions are, if better coaches with better track records are excluded because of criteria put in place by a single person then you end up with a narrow pool of candidates and eventually somebody like Jerry Prieto. He had a big time OC job with numerous D1 athletes and got destroyed. Crosby's headline literally only listed his last two years of work because going any further back starts to get sketchy. He's an old guy that nobody else thought highly enough of to give a head coaching job at this point in his career, but since he has a graduate degree and is willing to take what's going to be lower tier pay for the Houston metro he got he job. There are plenty of Rio's I'm sure applied and we end up with Jeff Nations? I'll tell you this, there are a lot better things to do around this area on Friday night than fill the stands for a mediocre team. He wants community support he better win games immediately or he won't have any and start losing kid's interest. It's probably all a moot point though, Crosby can go 3-7 the next two years and the new supt. will be fine with it.
  19. I would also like to give a HUGE thanks to Jeff Riordan elevating Crosby's status in the THSFB landscape!!! Surprised he even finished out the season with the supt. situation as it was. Guy was really about Crosby, I now for a fact he turned down a job that would've paid him clos to what Gary Joseph is making at Katy to come back to what turned out to be a hell hole. Salute Coach Rio.
  20. Well, act one of the train wreck that started with the old supt. resigning and ending with Crosby missing the playoff for the first time in a decade and a half is finally over. Not really excited about the new coaching hire and not sure Crosby will even be a .500 team next year. They'll have the talent to win every game on the roster like they did last year if healthy but other than someone new in charge none of the circumstances surrounding the program have improved. The new supt. changed the hiring rules to exclude some candidates the community wanted and install a puppet. No up and coming coach from outside the community would take this job with the financial situation as it is and his inability to properly staff the program. I don't think we're scrapping the barrel for who we can find to take the job but I don't think hiring Coach Prieto was far from it. He averaged 44 points a game against mostly trash in an area where even though the teams in our district aren't very strong would still manage to do the same. He benefited from working at a start-up school who pulled enrollment from others in the district weakening them much like Shadow Creek did to Manvel, when he was at Cy-Springs it was clear he was in over his head and had his offenses mauled weekly. He resurrected his viability against a bunch of kids named Soto, Gonzalez and Hernandez and the new supt. fell for it. Don't be surprised if Crosby goes back to the days that if the team has a pool party at your house then your kids gets to start, deserving or not. Crosby's only real hope for the foreseeable future is that the area is rapidly growing and they have some special kids in the lower grades about to come through the program. Lot less enthusiasm about the program from the community in general but the kids still seem to be invested which is encouraging. Still have solid transfers coming in from the surrounding area which is another positive. With the right coach I still think Crosby could play with and beat elite teams like Manvel but I don't see how we attain one of those any time soon? From an X's and O's standpoint expect Crosby's new offense to look like what Dayton ran under Hancock and what New Caney is currently running under Pennington so at least there shouldn't be much of a transition for the offensive kids, no clue on the defense. From a community pride standpoint I would really like to give the new staff a chance, from the standpoint of giving my other sons their best opportunity, moving 15 mins down the road to North Shore seems awful enticing now.
  21. Obviously the majority of the coaches in the district didn't feel that way. Westeberg also voted against two of our transfers a couple of years back so he distributes evenly. The simple question is if you already have the game recorded from three different camera angles why would you need to record or take pictures of anything during the game for use afterwards? Ipads take garbage pictures and videos from that distance compared to the shots you get from the standard camera angles, any of which you can freeze to get the same picture you took with the Ipad after the game. For no other reason would you need an ipad in the press box for anything other than viewing something prior to the allotted time. There's little to no chance Faircloth doesn't know that rule exist and with that being said he wouldn't allow it to be broken if he didn't think it helped.
  22. Well, even with this being Crosby's worst season in nearly a decade and PNG having their best player ever they still felt the need to cheat to secure a 3 point victory. You almost have to be sure they cheated to get the last 3 point victory in bi-district last year also. I guess when you're a mediocre coach before RJ shows up you have to do everything you can to maximize your time with him? If you want to argue that point just look at the one year Crosby loses their qb and doesn't have a stud backup, you go from beating Manvel to losing to BH. I would imagine the coaches that are still here figuring out how they're going to pay their mortgages after the season have a lot more to do with the current situation though. Luckily, Westeberg found a way to help to mitigate future arse whippings and decided to snitch on something PNG has probably been doing for a long time. Otherwise Crosby almost certainly misses the playoffs for the first time in 15 years. With us not being able to get anything from the qb position and Lee getting their qb back it's still highly possible that we go 0-2 but I'm hoping these seniors and this staff can find a way to go be Code Red again for at least a few more games. Crosby has been on life support since two series into the Vidor game and thanks to a Bush league move by the honor, pride, tradition, deceit school they haven't pulled the plug on us yet.
  23. The kids haven't had books in a while so I would imagine even being in the hole that we could've spared one of the 1000's of tablets and laptops we have in the district.
  24. Barrett Station is over 60% Hispanic now. This statement would've made sense in the 90's but now it's pretty asinine. I would imagine that only about 20% of the kids we've signed in the last decade or so have come from Barret Station. There is a lot more "mobility" in Crosby ISD now.
  25. Like I said after what I saw last week against PNG. It will be tough for Crosby to even make the playoffs.
