Was doing some research on football playing populations in the coverage area and see PAM has basically the same numbers as CE King while playing a class below. You would think they should be a lot more dominant? It can't just be facilities, coaching maybe? PAM - 887 CE King - 892

DCTF's 5 Programs Under Pressure to Win this Season

Those runs were before the divisions were split though. It was a lot harder to make consistent runs back then vs now when you're only playing with ~ 130 teams in the class. I said it when they announced it that splitting divisions would help this area more than pretty much any other. Transfers can play a huge role but in general it's harder to "fall off" in D2 now with the splits watering down the competition vs playing in D1 where a number of teams can get hot and make a run. -
Crosby vs Lamar scrimmage freshman/JV will start at 5pm and it says varsity will start at 6:30pm. Thank God we don't have to fight the traffic into River Oaks this year

DCTF's 5 Programs Under Pressure to Win this Season

Man, I think PNG is in a good position to make multiple finals appearances in the next 5/6 years if their talent isn't too cyclical. If Crosby hadn't collapsed in the semis against Liberty Hill that district would've had three consecutive state finalist. I think PNG or FB Marshall make it back to state this year again. LH has owned region 4 the last three years and will most likely win it again this year. They're one of the fastest growing schools in the state and will be 5A-D1 next year though. Once they leave you're down in CC Flour Bluff and SA Alamo Heights territory. Teams that I don't even think PNG would've needed to be as good as they were last year to donkey stomp. PNG's enrollment is relatively stagnant meaning they're going to be locked in to D2 for the foreseeable future. We all know D2 is significantly easier but PNG has a real homegrown D2 enrollment unlike SOC who has a similar enrollment but would need 2,500+ kids to field a team like that without the transfers, so PNG is right where they should be. Coach Willis told us at the parent meeting that teams need three things to be successful; 1. Community, 2. Players, 3. Coaches, in that order. Hard to argue in D2 that PNG isn't right up there in all those categories. -
I think the enrollment caps would have to increase significantly to have Desoto and Cedar Hill drop. Cedar Hill was at 2,635 in '22 and 2,634 in '20. I'm assuming it's their TEA number but Desoto was at 2,734 in '21. The enrollments for those SW Dallas County schools is relatively stagnant when compared to some of the other metro area schools. Lancaster is the "country" part of Dallas County kind of like Crosby is to Harris County. They have room to grow and with them already sitting at 2,185 last snapshot I think they'll actually be moving to 6A next realignment. They picked up 84 kids from '20 snapshot to '22, if they're still growing at that rate they could be up over 2,260 in October.

Those are just pics from their media days in their game jerseys. Some of them wear different numbers in practice jerseys. He easily stands out because he still wears the black cleats and gloves from his GCM days. If you zoom in on the pic in the bottom left corner you can see #13 with “Samuel” written across his helmet in red tape. [Hidden Content]

I'm not a fan of personal trainers for RB's so Levi doesn't really go to them. Wes goes to all of them though. I think that had an impact on getting the ball rolling for him, lots of additional promotion. He got invited by Demarco Murray for an unofficial to OU's Spring game before camp season even started, I wouldn't be surprised if they offered him in the not too distant future. I think he just came from Texas a couple of weeks ago too. It was kind of clear when they were both at the UTSA camp where Levi measured at 5'11"/193lbs/4.53/37" and no lost reps in 1 v 1's. Tim Yoder(RB coach) pulls him to the side after camp and say "Man you look good, we want to see you be more consistent on film though". Needless to say the two backs they offered that day had even less film than Levi. Wes is just going to be a junior and already 200lbs though. He also looks good running around cones for a kid that size, sometimes you recruit the physical traits even if the numbers may not be there.

If you come to the scrimmage tomorrow he'll be wearing #13. He ran with the #1 offense on Saturday during the scrimmage and stood out because he dropped a TD Eudy put right on his facemask. I would upload the HUDL film but you can't load pics and videos on here. Right now in the first two groups at receiver are Hammer(#21) and Samuel(#13) as the starters, Holman(#22 but #25 from last year), Brandt Wright(#1) and Odie(#12 BH transfer from Anahuac).

It's a two back system so both running backs start this year. The "A" back lines up in the slot more and catches the football more often, the "B" back lines up by the QB most times and is handed the ball more than it's thrown to him. If you watch Tyler Legacy film from 2021 you can see Jamarion Miller(Alabama) playing the "A" and Bryson Donnell(Texas Tech) playing the "B".

It's going to be interesting to see what Manvel looks like in a few years? They have a crazy building boom going on there just like the rest of the metro area but they already lost a huge chunk of high end athletes to Shadow Creek when they opened and now the south side of 288 has been cut out of their attendance zone too.

Crosby 2013: QB: Aston Walter - 2,443 yards and 32 tds passing/1,011 yards and 10 tds rushing RB: Austin Walter - 2,706 rushing yards and 33tds. 26 recs. for 519 yards and 4 tds (Only played 6 full games) WR: Raelon Singleton - 33 recs. for 773 yards and 16 tds receiving

What tentatively look to be Crosby's offensive skill starters based on this weekend's inter-squad scrimmage: QB: Kade Eudy - 6'1"/170lbs RB(A): Levi Fontenot - 5'11" - 197lbs RB(B): Wesley Yarbrough - 5'11"/200lbs TE: Cash Glover - 6'2"/205lbs WR: Nick Samuel - 6'1"/180lbs WR: Landen Hammer - 6'1"/185lbs Who I could see with the 1's on the O-line LT: Nate O'Flaherty - 6'3"/265 LG: AJ Johnson - 6'3"/330lbs RT: Levi Langley - 6'4"/260lbs - Defense wore jerseys with no numbers so really couldn't tell who all was out there. Will try to get the names and positions at the Lamar scrimmage Thursday Takeaways from the scrimmage: - Offensive 1's only scored once on the #1 defense. Starting receivers dropped two beautiful balls from Eudy. Overall executed the offense a little better than may be expected after only two weeks. - Defense is probably a step ahead of the offense which is what you would want at this point in the season considering the circumstances. LB's were the strongest position group as expected. - Team has the most size and depth since the Riordan days, 2013-2017 particularly

At the parent meeting today Coach Willis said we only have about 125 kids in the entire program. Said for comparison at Colleyville Heritage he had about 185. Crosby like a lot of other schools is having to adjust to the largest population in their enrollment basically not even participating in football.

The program that has three semifinal and one state finals appearance within the last decade sucks . . . but the team that in the same period that’s paid their head coach and families over $2M for one district championship and 1 more playoff win than Argyle, who just moved to 5A last year, and just finished 1 point away from consecutive 4th place finishes is on the rise? Only Cowboy fans

Y’all were losing, y’all had to throw to come back because you couldn’t consistently run it. Probably had 150 yards on two of those and I believe it was the 81 yard TD came on a complete coverage bust on like 3rd and 20. Yep, best game of the season like I said. Scored 28 points. What happens the next week, doesn’t get near that you score 27 and lose. What I would be a heck of a lot more worried about is that he threw for almost 400 yards and you were a 2pt conversion stop away from still losing at home in your own stadium. See y’all in Crosby, you remember what happened last time y’all came to town.

Looking back on last year Coach P and staff did a heck of a job with duct tape and super glue to get Crosby in the playoffs. Offensive injuries: Cyrin Myles - Missed 2 games. A knee I think? Kade Eudy - Missed 3 games. Cut finger on metal basketball net at elementary school while dunking basketball after reading to 3rd graders. Levi Fontenot - Missed 3 games(one series against Sterling). Broken collarbone because he doesn’t know how to fall down. Wesley Yarbrough - Missed 5 games. Sprained ankle in practice Braden Womack - Missed 3 games. Top receiving threat who cut open finger catching football when ball hit the seam of the glove requiring multiple stitches. Kristen Roberson - Missed 5 games. Fastest kid on the team and was supposed to be our deep threat. Concussion I believe? Never really got back right. Defensive injuries: Ayden Jones - Missed 4 games. Summer Creek transfer and a flat out baller. Only D1 signee from Crosby last year. Tore knee ligament on first series of game against CE King while celebrating after making a TFL on 3rd down. Played the rest of the year with a heavy brace. Cole Langley - Missed 3 games. Knee injury limited him even in most of the games that he did play. One of the 6’4” bookend DE’s we’ll be counting on this year Roberson/Womack - We were depending on them as two way starters like the Womack/Kirkwood two way combination in ‘21. Had to play some younger kids and had some struggles but I think will be better for it this year. Tough year to lose all those kids when we didn’t have that much depth to begin with. Complete inverse of ‘21 where the only impactful injury was Jones turning his turning his ankle in practice the week of the Liberty Hill game and not being able to go. Hopefully we can stay healthy this year. Injury plagued seasons like ‘15, ‘18 and ‘22 have really cost us.

That's interesting. Whenever I asked one of our administrators last year why we still have to do so many fundraisers for basic necessities and just can't use the money we make from streams or home games to cover the expenses his exact answer to me was "The money is for all programs, not just football and we don't get bleep off of those streams." I was particularly asking because our game with FB Marshall was on our local CW station. Maybe he meant not getting anything as in a low dollar value but my impression was that he meant we don't get anything at all. You can also watch Crosby's games on the NFHS network along with thousands of other schools, tough to see how a steaming service that can't even get a good feed all the time can pay 1,000's of high schools across the country for the rights to show their games or maybe they just pay the equivalent to the UIL in each one of those states? Either way, what I was pointing out is that if Crosby or district 8-5A-D1 solely owned those rights they could be sold for a lot more than they're receiving now. I'm sure to be a member of the UIL schools have to give up a certain level of autonomy though.

I agree, could be like '21 when we ran through PAM and then turned around and did the same to BH and the rest of the district when we had talent similar to what we do this year. As for BH, I don't think the 1 pt saves their season this year and they revert back to their normal 3rd and 4th place finishes that they've been known for since they've moved up to 5A. Heck, y'all were in a tight one with Porter for the vast majority of the game, a loss there would've had y'all in 5th. At the end of the day BHFan nobody is worried about a 5'9" QB who rushed for negative yards in multiple games, threw 11 picks(more than Myles threw in his whole career), had a 57% completion rate, a running back who looked scared last year and will be the main back this year, and a couple kids coming off knee surgeries that will be heavily depended on. Your best players this year are Miller Malone and 5'8" 145lbs Cyler Williams in the slot. When y'all don't have Crosby kids like Casey Collier this is usually what y'all look like though, so I'm expecting BH's usual 3rd or 4th place finish. Maybe a complete miss if y'all lost to La Porte again.

I know you can currently catch streams, TV games or radio broadcasts. What I'm saying is if you could negotiate the rights to those games there would be financial incentives for the schools. Every Crosby game is streamed on Texan Live, Texan Live makes money off Crosby games since people pay for subscriptions to the streaming service. Crosby makes 0 dollars off the stream though. If Crosby owned the rights to those games then in theory Crosby could make Texan Live pay for the privilege of of broadcasting them similar to the way the SEC owns the rights to their games and CBS pays them $100's of millions a year to to broadcast them. Right now for the most part those games are being shown for free because the school just likes the fact they're on whatever media platform wants them. If the Jefferson County schools told all the media platforms "No, you can't broadcast our event without compensation" there's absolutely a local channel that would pay for the rights to show them. That channel would make significant add revenue, relative to high school sports, if that was the ONLY place you could see them.

Players From Setx to lookout for on Saturday’s this season.
Cougar14.2 replied to MrFleet23's topic in High School Football
On the FCS level there’s an interesting dynamic at Texas A&M-Commerce. Crosby alum Reggie Branch led the team in rushing as a freshman last year and will be the starter while Barbers Hill alum Spencer Long will back him up to finish out his senior year. Going go check them out after I go low in our alumni golf tournament this year.
