I guess the Newton guy had a different opinion of the scrimmage looking at his comment? The silver lining I see for Crosby in this game is that Jasper runs the antiquated wing-T which we would normally never see unless we lined up with Angleton or Calallen, even though Angleton runs it with 5-stars like BJ Foster while Calallen has Danaher. I like the fact we get to work on run fits to start the season but I don't like the fact we won't get any real work against the pass and we have to line up with BH to open district play who is going to air it out. I think Crosby's win in this game would be to hold Jasper to 250 total yards or less, even though y'all are a couple of divisions below us I think that would be an accomplishment for the Cougars and something to build on moving forward into district play.

Summer Creek will house Kingwood and they will split time at school. IDK how that's going to sit with some of the Kingwood faithful having to send their kid to what's considered the "hood" school in the district along with Humble. I would imagine all the people between Kingwood dr and Northpark dr will push hard for the kids to go to the closer Kingwood Park. Very interested to see what KP might do on the football field with a potential 6A enrollment playing in 21-5A?

Eaten many such opponents like who? The last 5A team Jasper beat that actually won more than two games that season was 5-7 Worthing out of HISD in a year Jasper was 2-8 themselves in 2010. Every other time they've played a 5A school in that span they've given up at least 41 points with Lumberton being the most when they dropped 56. It's not about stooping to some level, its football talk. You give your reasons for your thoughts and I give mine, that's what the board is for. Not to sit around every week and say, "It's going to be a great game" just because there's going to be one played.

How do you give up 500+ yards and 50 points to a spread team, not see your team play a game this year and know the dbs improved in coverage and the DC will have a good scheme? Doesn't seem like covering the spread is the defense's only issue though. Seems like every team Jasper played that was decent at the line of scrimmage last year rammed down their throat.

Well, I'm sure all those teams I named would disagree with you and none of them have won a state title in the last 10 years while all have been ranked nationally multiple times in that same period which is why I highlighted them. Says a lot considering Manvel and Cy-Ranch haven't even been playing varsity football 10 years yet.

Yeah, I would also use them on teams like Manvel, Westfield, Cy-Ranch, Klein Collins, San Angelo Central, Lamar and so on. Maybe you're just talking about teams that have won a state championship in the last 60 years though?

Maybe so, but we'll never find out after this year because we never drop down to play them. Riordan gets a lot better calls from around the metro area so unless we have a hurricane there's no need to test that theory.

I mean, after watching what is supposed to be Jasper's highlight film I don't see why you would think that? Last team you played that ran a spread dropped 50 on you. The way y'all line up against on defense against the spread formation and the way your dbs cover, it looks to me like Crosby should easily be in the mid 40's by the time Riordan shuts them down. Co-worker lives in the district and says everybody is wanting their kids to go to KP but there isn't any room to house them. Said Atascocita was an option as well as rotating days at Summer Creek with SC going Monday, Wednesday and a Friday with Kingwood going Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I guess they're having/had a vote to see which option gets picked. I know the UIL is allowing kids to transfer that were effected by the storm. As far as 21-5A I figured KP might be a little more formidable if they're allowed to have athletes from big brother to transfer in.

Nah, I'm on nights for refinery start up and I'm salary so I'm not getting paid like the other people here working so that may be the little annoyance you sense. Grad tried to point out where splitting divisions wouldn't have helped Crosby and I pointed out where they would've. That's completely different than pointing out a game none of the kids were even alive for 33 years ago or pointing to titles that were won before half the schools winning them now even existed.

North Shore was actually their scheduled game for week 2. I saw where they were trying to play Lamar.

Who is arguing whether Crosby and Jasper should be playing? Who has said they're ungrateful to be playing? The question was, "Why or how did this become a great game?" Everybody is excited to play, I think we've moved beyond the storm to actual football stuff.

Yeah, and Cedar Park would've been D1 in the semis in '14 and at 2,348 Ridge Point would've been 6A when we were undefeated in '15 and actually got to play Angleton in the quarters who we had already demolished earlier that year. Didn't say we were going to win it every year but good try. Appreciate the luck on the solid. It did wonders for y'all after not winning a title in almost 30 years.

I don't think anybody is throwing shade. Crosby is over twice the size of Jasper. I think calling a matchup between the two teams a great game is just fan-speak because the two schools are in the coverage area, no other reason. Playing up may be great and help out Jasper but o think there's a reason Crosby hasn't dropped down to play anybody in 15+ years. I will say I'm very thankful we're actually playing a game though.

Well, we all know it wouldn't truly be a Crosby thread until state championships are referenced. It's all good though Grad, the UIL is about to do us a solid too when they split the divisions next year.

Yeah, I know it gets dark over there. Hasn't seemed to work since we came to Nederland five years ago. Then again, all those games were against 5A teams during the playoffs or teams that eventually made the playoffs. I guess Jasper is going to show us though.

I'm sure the reason we played Jasper then was because our towns were similar in size, three and a half decades later the towns are in two different places. What's special about playing in the "Dawg House"? I just looked at the last four years of home records and Jasper is 13-5 with wins over 4A teams. On the other hand, Crosby's home record in that same span is 20-0 with wins over all 5A and 6A teams. We'll see though, Jasper definitely has one advantage with the long travel time for Crosby. Probably have to take charter buses.

Crosby has already been practicing. Great matchup how? We have twice the kids y'all do and really get no satisfaction from a win against Jasper. I can see why it may be a good matchup for Jasper but Crosby hasn't dropped down to play anybody for at least 15 years. I can see this being a very hard game for the Crosby kids to get up for. We go from having our game against the #1 team in the state cancelled to another cancellation against a 6A playoff team to a dang near three hour bus ride to drop down and play a 4A squad. I understand it was the only for sure game we could make, it's just disappointing but at least the kids have a game before district starts.
