  1. Maybe if they get past Temple, but at the end of the day I think the only 5A teams in the state that can play within 21 points of Manvel right now are Foster and Denton Ryan.
  2. Unfortunately for them New Caney has elevated their play to the level where they won't be overlooked by anybody. Jordan Cooper is sitting just shy of 3,000 total yards from the QB position, Marte Allison has over 1,200+ yards and 20+ rushing tds from the RB position and Eli Aiken has over 1,000 receiving yards to go with 16 tds. NC has lost the element of surprise with numbers like that. Manvel's players will know who all those players are by the end of practice today and will be geared up to stop them. NC will feel better once Manvel also hammers Cedar Park the week after.
  3. Keep hope alive man, there's always a chance Manvel could have bus trouble. They're probably fast enough to run from Highway 6 to third ward and still make it to the game on time though.
  4. A receiver that's not going to cause a matchup problem. Wiley is faster than anybody PNG has on their roster. I think BH had the two best receivers on the field. #10 and #1 from BH ran past PNG's defense even though they were playing off coverage with a two high safeties. They did it multiple times but the two that stick out are the two Langelier tds that got called back for holding and when #1 smoked PNG's secondary on that last drive of the game but Cauthen underthrew him and the PNG player had time to recover and make a finger tip play saving a game-winning TD. I don't know what y'all look like with McZeal out there in person but right now PNG isn't going to put anybody out there that's going to scare you athletically, that's what I mean by average.
  5. Yeah, and one of those TE's was 6-5, 235lb Mustapha Muhammad who also happens to be one of the top 10 recruits in the state in his class. Also had linemen like Marcus Montemayor(Alcorn St.) 6-2/275, Jack Greene(Rice) 6-3/315 and Travis Bruffy(Texas Tech) 6-7/285. Throw in BJ Rainford running behind them and that's pretty sick. Marshall is the normal shotgun spread team. Qb is fast and their sophomore rb does have over 1,000 rushing yards but I don't think they execute like RP or Elgin who we've lost to in the second round recently. I also don't think Marshall has the defense of either.
  6. You've never heard me say once on here that I thought we had a personnel advantage over s team with 700 more kids than we have. Ridge Point had D1 kids all over the the field and was far superior to anything we had seen in the trenches that year. Crosby played Manvel about equal to what North Shore did and Marshall lost to them 63-6. Lot different playing 6A's in the 5A playoffs than it is playing 5A's in the 5A playoffs.
  7. Pretty impressive win earlier in the year for El Campo over Angleton. Not sure what the circumstances of the game were but I thought that was pretty surprising. Only thing odd was Bay City pushing them the way they did but that can probably be explained by it being a rilvary game. I think El Campo wins a close one and keeps their season alive.
  8. FB Marshall barely has half the kids FB Ridge Point does. Lot different playing RP in the D2 playoffs with their 2,349 student enrollment than it will be playing Marshall with their 1,280 student enrollment. It wasn't the speed that killed us, it was the mismatch in the trenches which is the drastic difference between 5A and 6A. RP is also one of the better coached teams you'll find in the Houston area, not sure that's going to be the case with Marshall. The playoffs are about matchups and considering this is the #1 seed coming out of the Fort Bend district as far as D2, Crosby couldn't ask for a better one. This is one of he rare times we'll play one of the Fort Bend schools and have a personnel advantage.
  9. That's what I was telling my buddy at the game. BH and New Caney both have to realize they start taking score when you blow the whistle. Same problem for NC last year, same problem for KP until they got it figured out and the same problem for Porter although I think they would've lost anyway. The more you go to the playoffs the easier getting ready for them becomes though. Completely different mindsets for kids that haven't had to get ready for playoff games versus kids that look forward to the intensity the playoffs bring starting the previous Summer offseason. Frustrated the heck out of me last night that for the second year in a row New Caney acted like they were shocked the other team showed up and actually had football players. I think you saw that when for the first time to my knowledge Coach Pennington called a timeout and went full Jerry Stewart on his squad. Really liked what I saw from BH post first quarter though, excellent coaching job in what looked like to me a complete philosophy change offensively from what Cauthen was struggling with early. Physically BH is still two or three players on both sides of the ball from where they need to be to start making runs but I think those players could be coming sooner than later. Congrats on the improvement, I see y'all going 9-1 in the regular season with what you have coming back next year.
  10. Exactly, they struggled to beat BH with Johnson playing and BH throwing three first quarter picks. BH outplayed PNG the last three quarters of the game though. Jaiden played most of the game for us and we beat BH handily. They're talking about us but they literally have no offense besides Johnson, average at receiver and probably below average at rb. Even the passing game they do have is a simplistic raise and throw it straight to the receiver the qb is looking at which is why BH started batting so many down later in the game. Not to mention they're a terrible matchup personnel wise on defense for anybody who can throw the ball, been a while since I seen BH receivers burning people. Interesting the perspectives.
  11. Whatever man, you're all over the place. If Crosby is lucky we're in D2 you're lucky Manvel is on the other side of the bracket and you don't have to get beat by 35 in the second round like Ned had to against George Ranch playing from that same position last year. I said at the beginning of the season that PAM should run through that district with ease due to the enrollment and talent comparable to that district and they almost did. Fact of the matter is that Vidor was the hottest team in your district to finish the season and you lost to them, just like Crosby took an unexpected loss a couple of months ago from a team that started district play hot. Both teams Crosby and PAM lost to would've finished 8-3 had Porter not had their game cancelled. Only difference is that Vidor won your strict and Porter finished fourth in ours. PNG also won a share of your district title and struggled with a BH squad that lost to Crosby and NC by a combined 7 tds. The New Caney team I saw playing against Central during regulation was far from what I saw during district play. You have to give Central credit for making the needed plays, just like BH made every play except the last one against you district champion also. All four #1 seeds won just like the UIL set it up. Good luck to you team, don't lose to Elkins.
  12. It's all perspective. Way I see it PAM is closer to being the fraud than anybody. You have a DC on the line and Vidor comes in and steamrolls you, next week they lose by two scores to a team that had 2 tds called back. I would hope PNG could do something after winning a share of your DC. Crosby and NC both beat BH by 3+ tds and they were on the 4 yard line with second left looking for the go ahead score against the Indians. I really wished we would've played early in the year, as bad as y'all looked against Westside to start the year we could've got an easy W. Manvel beat Elkins 50-14, lets see how y'all look against them. You know they houseruled PAM and then some last time they lined up.
  13. Now see, if I would've gotten on here saying I feel like Crosby should crop dust Marshall people would've been saying "Don't overlook anybody." I just can't win.
  14. Sucks for them. Their QB already broke his leg earlier in the year. They might really be in trouble then, Magnolia just put 54 on Hutto. Interesting to see what CS does against Whitehouse.
  15. I agree, and Brenham just knocked off Georgetown which was kind of surprising. Makes me feel like like College Station could be in trouble next week against against Magnolia. I hope you're right though, have a good feeling our defense will perform even better against a normal type offense.
  16. One observation I would make is that PNG better figure out some kind of way run the ball with someone other than the qb. PNG plays solidly together but they don't really have anybody that will be a matchup problem for Willowridge. For instance, they were able to pressure BH with the deep ball in one on one situations. Not saying they won't scheme people open but they're not going to have any advantages personnel wise like they did in a couple of situations on BH. I think PNG wins the game because Willowridge isn't what you usually get out of the Fort Bend district. One of the rare times schools like PNG and Crosby will both have higher enrollment totals than their Fort Bend counterparts when they match up. PNG plays better defense than they did against BH and they probably get this one.
  17. Both teams are coming into this one 9-2. Crosby has elevated their defensive play going into the postseason while Marshall is coming off a 58 point performance against Houston Sterling in the first round. Could be another good matchup for Crosby. Marshall loves to run it with the qb and pair of sophomore running backs but they also average about 105 passing yards per game at a slightly better than 50% completion rate. Another good thing for Crosby is that Marshall has given up 27+ points in 5 of 11'games including 63 to Manvel, 48 to Elkins, 35 to Texas City and even gave up 455 yards of offense to Santa Fe the last game of district play. Marshall also had 14 penalties for 131 yards in that game though. Lot of talent at Marshall but I think this is a good matchup Crosby. I think we're playing a little sharper on both sides of the ball and you have to give Riordan the coaching advantage in this one.
  18. I think you have to say so. IMO if Westbrook plays in that Garland ISD district they go undefeated just like Sachse did this year. One thing about playoff football is that the running game travels. Problem is that WB has given up some big numbers to teams that can throw it around the yard which LC can. I just think personnel wise WB probably couldn't ask for a better matchup at this point in the season.
  19. Just a bad draw geographically from the UIL. Happens all the time to at least two districts in the Houston area, Westbrook just happened to get put in one this alignment. Palestine is 115 miles away from LC also so it's not like they have a huge advantage. Westbrook just has to go play their game.
  20. Crosby vs Fort Bend Marshall Friday @ 7pm Clyde Abshier Stadium in Deer Park
  21. Pretty salty W for Kevin Flannigan and the Bruins. I think if you told Brook fans they were going to play in a district with the Woodlands and Lufkin, draw Longview in the first round and STILL win ten game everybody would've taken it. Already a good season for the Bruins, interesting to see how they show up and play as the favorite now.
  22. PAM better put Porter away early, Jim Holley is not the type of coach you want your team to be in tight games with in the 4th quarter. Porter is getting a home game in their first playoff appearance in school history, Texan Drive will be rocking. Especially with New Caney not playing until Saturday. Do any Porter or NC fans know if the other receiver who hasn't been playing is going to be available tonight? I still think PAM gets the win but I like Porter's chances a lot better with him out there.
  23. I think Crosby's aggression is part of what makes us so good but unfortunately I also think its what makes us factor in personal foul yardage before the game even starts. Being a program a lot of people want to beat I'm sure our kids get more friction that the average team too though. For Crosby we've played relatively clean the last two games against good teams which is an optimistic trend moving forward this time of year.
  24. It's hard to play a game in a phone booth all night long and not have some extracurricular activity at some point. I think both sides got flags thrown on them fairly when they played beyond the whistle. As for all the other missed calls, I think the refs just really went out there and just let the kids play. Both team could've had more holding penalties called on them, I thought Vidor's slot back got away with early movement several times and Crosby probably got away with playing past the whistle at least two times. It was playoff football though, I don't think the refs were calling anything that wasn't egregious.
  25. I think JT gets this one in a somewhat high scoring game. The last thing you should do with who beat who at this point in the season but I just can't get past that 70 piece Westbrook put on Lufkin in their home stadium. I think JT's 9-1 moving back up after realignment was even more impressive than Westbrook's unexpected 9-1 record. Still think this region goes through the winner of the Collins vs Cedar Ridge game though, which the winner of this game probably gets in the third round. Very even region strength wise once you get to the area round.
