  1. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, sir, and if that’s how you feel then that’s your right. I’m not trying to be argumentative with you for sure so please don’t read anything I’m posting here as an attempt to show you up at all. However there are a few facts that would surround that. You are speaking of Chris Theriot. I believe they passed on him years ago when he was Ofield’s defensive coordinator under head coach Blake Morrison. When Morrison left, I think that’s when they brought in Huckaby or something like that. If Theriot is now the defensive coordinator at Nederland , I wouldn’t think that would be what Orangefield needs to continue with success. I believe Nederland’s defense was quite poor this year and they haven’t been the Mecca for success in football in a few years. In fact I don’t think any Nederland coach would have high stock now as a potential AD/HFB candidate. Being from Orangefield cannot be the only qualification…or maybe it will be..hopefully not. If it’s just about being a former player at Orangefield , why not Derek Peveto from Orangefield who is currently at Vidor coaching. He was a much better athlete than Theriot was and much better than Peevey. Again just basing this off the previous comment you stated about Theriot was a good player from Orangefield. That’s probably debatable in football. Depends on who you ask. I’m sure his coaching friends on here will quickly come to his defense on that, and that’s fine as well. It would appear to me that Theriot has enough on his plate trying to improve his defense. Probably not the best time to give him the key to the city and full command of Orangefield. Having “some” knowledge of Orangefield , although not an abundant knowledge or as much as others on here, I do believe they will indeed hire someone from Orangefield. It’s just kind of there way on the overall scale. Yes, Huckaby was an outsider. Smalley was from BC, that was close enough so I would think overall they will go with someone the superintendent knows and doesn’t feel challenged by. When you know someone, it tends to make people in charge feel more comfortable. Not the best tactic to take when hiring a coach , but the facts are that pretty much anyone you hire for that job is guaranteed a playoff spot for the next two years as I hear they are staying in that small district. Again, 4 teams go. They will once again be the largest school in that district, and they will make the playoffs. They have hardworking athletes out there who want to be successful. Hopefully Orangefield will bring in the best candidate and not someone a particular school board member went to school with as the only reason. There are some good assistant coaches out there in this area. One that comes to mind is a guy like Chad Lutcherall at PNG. (Probably missed the spelling on his name). Will see how it plays out.
  2. What a temper you have, sir. You should calm down. Everybody can have an opinion. Try Yoga and tell me how that goes. I’ll wait.
  3. I don’t think it’s an overall question of the school district wanting him to leave as much as he may be wanting to go over there. In all his years at Orangefield he won “one” district championship in a district where he was the largest school in that district. This year, I think he could have done better, and I still do not buy into the slot T or nothing mentality. However , Orangefield has been a playoff team and will certainly stay that way going forward by staying in the smaller district that they are in. Overall, I don’t feel like a Peevey or a Prouse or anyone else will do any better than he did. Smalley is far from being a southeast Texas legend like Larry Neumann or Cornel Thompson or Dan Hooks , but he’s done well enough with overseeing the program and keeping Orangefield a playoff team. Heard his wife is currently at Bridge City ISD after being at Orangefield for several years. With the rumors of him leaving and her being there, does give some speculation to the his future movements. They have some good athletes in Orangefield with that blue collar personality (hard workers). Whoever coaches them, they will be blessed with kids that truly care about being successful.
  4. A 3rd place finish and getting manhandled in the first round is not something to be happy about, especially when you’re the largest school in that particular district. Lots of questions going forward about whether or not Smalley leaves etc. it’s a proud community with loyal fans and good kids. Hope for better days for the cats going forward. I believe they’re saying is “We Believe”….that wasn’t near enough tonight.
  5. Yeah, that’s some good information there. You are probably right.
  6. You know how rumors are. May not be a single bit of truth to it. Could be some ole dude running his mouth while he was eating a bowl of gumbo. With Orangefield expected to stay down in the district they are in, I would think he would want to stay on. He has the athletes to be a playoff team every year in that district.
  7. Heard rumor today that Smalley was heading back to his roots at Bridge City at the conclusion of this season / semester. Don’t know whether that is true or not..everyone knows how rumors are. Either way , I think he makes them wait another week. Give me Orangefield in this one.
  8. I am still in disbelief that the Anahuac Panthers are not in the playoffs…where four teams go to the playoffs. In this district, I would have never seen this coming.
  9. Great Job by EC again showing how tough they play. I think if you are Orangefield, you are glad to be in the playoffs, but you are secretly disappointed in placing 3rd….that is if there are coaches and parents in Orangefield that still don’t buy into the philosophy that everyone gets a trophy and the loser of a game still gets a snowcone the same as the winner, lol. Best of luck to both programs representing our area in the playoffs.
  10. Tip of the hat to Kirbyville. Humbling loss for the Bobcats. Looks like Kirbyville really took it to them. Bobcats have another war next week. EC will come in ready to roll.
  11. Well, someone had to win. Lol. Nothing like a battle for last place.
  12. West Brook needs a new head coach. Two years of absolute losing. Also, I believe Coach Bass over at HJ came off that staff and …well, he hasn’t won anything either. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out at a place, and for the coach at WB , it didn’t work. Doesn’t work at HJ either.
  13. Barbers Hill, man. This is a special place. Top notch facilities , great coaches, great community. Very impressed.
  14. If Kirbyville , even for one series, lets their foot off the gas, they will lose. Ask Anahuac who got up on Orangefield by two scores how that turned out. Kirbyville has a chance to do something that no one is this distinct has been able to do in almost two district seasons…beat Orangefield. But then again , Orangefield is the incumbent champion. I’d be shocked if they go quietly. Certainly more pressure on Ofield to win. Just comes with being the largest school in the district. 4th quarter should be interesting. Tip of the hat to Kirbyville so far. Finally, one of these district teams showed up to give the Bobcats a fight and wasnt riding simply on hype. EC next week for the Bobcats. You know they are going to come in fired up.
