2 reasons: A. They are playing a neutral site game the week before, so 2 neutral games in a row could be costly to the groups that run concession as well as athletic budgets. B. Look at the 2 games after that. Both of those games are going to be down to the wire physical games that will take their toll on both the minds and the bodies of the players and even coaches. Add WOS to those equals insanity.

If only that was legal here. Oh wait it is.

Houston and Setx falling way behind
RaiderRed30 replied to Uncle Pig's topic in High School Football
Most of the Fort Worth schools and North Dallas schools are both. They are successful in sports and in the classroom. Brock, Aledo, Carroll, Allen, Frisco, etc. Some aren't, but the majority are. -
Nuevo Leon and Prepa Tech might be good choices. Nuevo Leon played Navasota the past two seasons and Prepa Tech has been playing some of the larger schools over the past few years. Both games would be home games. Don't know if they have expect payment like some out of state games.

Belton or Waco. As for week 5 teams are running into that issue. Brownwood is only playing 9, Stephenville played only 9 the past seasons. Only teams would be out of state (Louisiana) or Mexico more than likely.

I just saw it today, but it has been out since Monday. I agree with AAW in the thinking of that must not have included alternative placement students and other students that are not on campus but would be eligible for UIL activities. It is very surprising that no one at BISD or Ozen had or has ever attempted to correct the numbers to the outside world. Now with those numbers, they are 5A and there was no choice, but it will still be very tough to be successful in everything when competing against schools with 1500-2000. Basketball may be successful but other sports depth could play a problem. Splendora is in the same boat. BISD in the next two years needs to figure out a plan to either move students over to Ozen or make it smaller to guarantee that it will be a 4A. With West Brook being sent to Conroe and Lufkin for district, maybe they work a way to have all 3 schools at 5A next alignment.
-
Yes, I was surprised this morning from the everything that has been said the past 4 months. The rank order lists Ozen as the 3rd smallest 5A football playing school after Splendora (1106) and Dunbar (872). Will move up to 4th in a couple of weeks when Fort Worth YMLA (127) & YMWA (144) are moved down from 6A.
-
Just saw on UIL, Ozen has 5A numbers. They turned in 1121 and the cutoff was 1100. Beaumont ISD never had the option of opting them up.

Yes

Wasn't that because of scheduling? I thought Houston for basketball plays all of their varsity games, both boys and girls in only 4 or 5 gyms, and football around that amount. They opted up schools to have a district to themselves allowing them to set their own schedules and not have to worry about other teams. I believe that is why they opted up all of the 4A D2 schools to D1 this time because last time they were having to travel all the way to Navasota for football. Garland and Austin have done the same. I think Fort Bend as well. It is just easier if you can have your own district and decide everything than having to make agreements with other school districts and working around their academic calendars. Plus usually schools in the same school district will have similar facilities and everything else, so the difference in numbers is not felt as much. In this case, BISD said it saved money, but other than football their district would have been closer with the farthest game LCM instead of Lee. Maybe this will be a one time thing and Ozen can gain students to have 5A numbers in two years, but if not hopefully BISD will realize the problem and allow them to drop.

That's because only parts are a magnet.

My Outlook on the West Brook Situation

Probably, they do that to Fort Worth and deservedly so. -
Heard Houston opted up all D2 schools to D1 in football. Easy scheduling most likely.

Beaumont Harmony Science appealing
RaiderRed30 replied to AshlyHasBeen's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Why stop at 5. Just have the starting lineups at West Brook, Ozen, and Central all transfer and have 3 groups of 5. -
It's not Ozen that made the decision. It was Beaumont ISD telling them to stay 5A. Same as Dunbar. That is what I am referring to as if they would have been allowed to drop. The districts are forcing them up, just like Houston and Dallas use to do. Beaumont does it for money and Fort Worth does to give their 5A teams 2 districts and 5-6 playoff berths instead of one 10 team district and 4 playoff berths.

SETXsports REALIGNMENT SPECIAL/MONDAY AT 8:45 AM!
RaiderRed30 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
Westbrook and SA Central got hosed the most this time. Driving to Conroe is one thing, but if they make the playoffs in any sport their opponents are going to be from either Rockwall, Tyler, or Longview. The first round for everything other than football is on a Tuesday night and there aren't many places in the middle. I have had one of those 4 hour first round games and they are not fun. Houston to DFW should never be bi-district opponents. High Island to Union Hill is a long way as well, but that was what everyone was thinking. -
SETXsports UIL Realignment Special/Monday at 8:45 am
RaiderRed30 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
UIL already listed the schools that are opting up. Other than schools with travel hardship or school districts that form their own district, Ozen is only one of 2 or 3 that opting up. -
Ole Miss Cheating?? You don't say...
RaiderRed30 replied to Whoopi Goldberg's Lips's topic in College Sports Forum
Forbes ranks it in the top 20 schools for you buck. Top 15 business program and top 5 accounting program. Having a good accounting program is very useful for people who want to play in the NFL and not go broke within 3 years of retirement. Add that with the campus, a coach that has been in a movie and has shown that he cares what's best for the players making parents more receptive towards him, the food, the location, and the farm on campus for research makes it a good place. -

It is surprising, but it is actually true. It is one of the best public schools and schools for the money. -
Not surprising

Ole Miss is one of the best school's in the country and the campus is one of the prettiest in the country. The people are great. At some places all it takes is the right coach, and Freeze seems to be that one for Ole Miss. Think if Alabama never had Bear Bryant? UCLA never had Wooden? One coach can change everything. -

All of these were before Freeze or not dealing with the football team.
