  1. Back in the mid 2000’s Lamar made a push to up enrollment. They hit D/FW and Houston hard, built new dorms to get more kids on campus, but when the President at the time, I think Dr. Simmons left so did the vision. They built an Honors college and Administrative building like 6-7 years ago and that was the first academic building built in over 40 years. Like I said, Lamar has failed to plan or put anything in place to make it attractive to outside folks not interested in Engineering or Masters program for adult teachers. They have I believe the largest endowment in Southland Conference, but no vision. At this point they should just try to get as many local athletes that can make them competitive until they figure out a larger game plan.
  2. A quick look shows the average Sunbelt Conference school athletics budget is $35.5 million and Appalachian State was over $37 million. That’s over twice the amount that Lamar spends. Like I said, Lamar University board of regents, alumni, Presidents, and former AD’s are the reason they’re in this position right now. City of Beaumont too
  3. I don’t have defeatist attitude, I’m speaking facts. You not getting athletes outside area to come to an area that is boring and a college that made for commuter college. The only fix is dump A lot of money into the athletics department and the surrounding area of Lamar. If not, we’ll all be on here 10 years from now still complaining.
  4. Last year, only 12 out of 30 conferences had multiple teams from their conference made a baseball regional. Only 10 conferences had multiple teams in March madness for basketball. Football at Lamar level is majority one team conference playoffs. point is, there’s no conference nowadays that works financially for a school like Lamar. We are who we are, unless the powers that be spend money and change the image of Lamar. Kids aren’t knocking down the door to attend Lamar and live in Beaumont. Not happening. It would take a major overhaul of area, adding nice off campus housing, bars, restaurants, and other college activities to change kids minds. Just my opinion.
  5. Lamar is in need of facilities upgrade too. They don’t have money or don’t want to spend money to upgrade facilities. Turf at Vincent was a bandaid. They need to revamp that whole place. No reason to have 3,500 seat stadium when you average about 1,000 for home homes. I would make it smaller with new covered stands, new locker rooms, concession stand, outfield wall, scoreboard, etc. Lamar belongs in Southland because of the fact they aren’t all in on sports either.
  6. I would be super surprised if SFA doesn’t announce the move back also. Sam Houston and New Mexico St announced they’re leaving WAC next year for conference USA. What a mess. UIW and UT-Arlington announced going to WAC next year. Wonder if they back out now?
  7. Sounds like it was probably a two way welcome back. The Southland needs a football school and Lamar needed a place to save athletic budget money. Plus, the Southland made McNeese their flagship
  8. That sounds like an excuse due to the overall athletics program in disarray. I didn’t think the move with that type geographical setup was fiscally responsible to begin with. Hoping for a good AD hire. Athletics needs some direction, because right now it’s nose diving into the ground.
  9. The sad thing is, I read where Lamar paid Southland $300k to leave Southland last year. Maybe they will give Lamar that money back. Lol The new President seems like a great guy when I met him just recently. Hopefully, they find a smart and capable AD that can turn things around. I’m a baseball guy, so my issues are focused on Vincent Beck. It’s not in good condition. The outfield walls are faded, restrooms stay broken, concession stand is a joke and closes in 7th inning, and overall needs some upgrades. The turf is nice, but that’s it. Southland Conference is where Lamar belongs.
  10. I can only go by this year. There was a ton of new kids this year (Juco) so maybe they are still trying to figure out pieces to the puzzle. I don’t get paid to make the decisions, but as an observer, there’s been some questionable roster moves.
  11. 8th inning has cost 3 wins this year. The Sam Houston game, I would’ve brought Cole in. He was the most consistent relief pitcher before a hamstring injury. They brought him in after the damage had been done. Houston, Rice, and Sam Houston losses were lost in 8th inning. Gotta know your players.
  12. Lamar wins another game against Sam Houston today 8-2. LU 5-0 in WAC play
  13. Also LU pulled the opening game out against Sam Houston. 4-0 in WAC play.😁
  14. Lol, I have to be careful since mines there, but I’m sure we will have a lot in common. I’ve always said give me the top guys from 21-5A and we would tear shit up. I have my own opinions of lack of local recruiting, but save that till we meet up sometime.
  15. Lol, come on. Usually in chairs down first base side. May not be there until Sunday due to other obligations
  16. Lol, I’m not over protective. That’s a funny statement coming from you Hiltz.
  17. 1976, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1993, 1995, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2010 These are years in program history that Lamar made it to a Regional. Gillian guided LU to 13 appearances in 38 seasons. Gillian is also one of the winningest coaches in college baseball. I think that’s where some of expectations come from. I don’t see Lamar ever coming close to another Gillian, not with what Lamar and Beaumont has to offer for kids outside of the Golden Triangle. Just my opinion. Gilligan, damn autocorrect
  18. Lol, it was a midweek game. A weekend series Lamar takes Atleast 2 of 3, if not sweeps HBU. midweek games have been used as a bullpen day for guys that didn’t see much action on weekend series. So far, LU hasn’t lost a weekend series yet.
  19. You have go back and read your buddy’s posts
  20. A&M didn’t get to regional last year. I guess they need to drop down to NAIA? I’m not sure you even keep up with baseball. There’s 22 D1 baseball teams in Texas. Out of that, 4 made a Regional (Texas, Tech, DBU, TCU). Those teams budgets, facilities, campus, overall appeal are far superior then Lamar. 2010 is the last appearance LU baseball had in a regional. The WAC is very tough when you look at GCU, Sac St., California Baptist, UTRGV, Sam Houston, Abeline Christian. Only 1 team will go, so LU would need to win conference tournament. Not sure what you expect.
