I could and have been wrong but I'm thinking both the teams mentioned played in Mikes fall league at Bayland Park. After league play 2 allstar teams are picked and play a cpl of games at Leo Dyer field (Blinn Coll), after this 1 team is picked and travel to Dallas for w/e games with the Dallas and SA allstars, then both Dallas and SA teams come down for another series that is played at a Houston area college facility>>was at A&M the yr my son played for Mike. I seriously dought you will find anyone more hooked up in Texas than Mike Rutledge. BTW, Ray Van Kuren was putting on summer tournaments in the late 90s and now I see he is still at it..... It would be good to see the GT represented again in this Fall showcase. \ Several organizations in Houston will be running fall teams. Kyle Chapman, Houston Heat, Ray Van Kuren's Saints to name a few. Also, Baseball USA is starting a top notch fall season this year with doubleheaders on Sundays. The Dallas area has been running a league similiar to this for a couple of years with great success. For more info go to www.houston5abaseball.com.

Why don't someone check into taking a select HS aged team to Houston for the fall season Mike Rutledge puts on at Kyle Chapman. Its been a few yrs since we were there but Mike has or has kept a slot open for a GT team in the past yrs. I dought you will find a fall league ANYWHERE in Tex. that showcases kids the way this program does for kids entering their senior yr. The intent of this league is for scouts both college and Pro to see and be able to follow the players of intrest in their senior season. BTW the #1 rule is no football players as its set up for dedicated BB players entering their sn yr. In the last 15+ yrs lots if not most kids in the Houston area that go on to play at the next level played in this fall program. The yr my son played he was placed on a Houston team (Lone Star) by the area Rangers scout, the same yr a GT team was coached by ?? a man from BC whos older son played for Rice (2nd), his team was comprised by E Tex and SW La players. I think that was the last yr (97) the GT was represented in Mike's fall ball.

Surely, Jimmy Houston mite be interested, although 300 acres would be considered a big pasture. -
Why is that not considered a force? They must tag to advance after the fly. Its pretty simple....He wasn't forced to go anywhere

I'm glad to see this kid come back since his ordeal after being the #1 pick in 99... -
Runner is out on obstruction, he needs to run behind or in front of the SS. Could still be called out EVEN if no contact made....

I have read 1 coach from each Vidor n TC , Billy Baker, Jason Sylvester, name on a cpl of occassions along with there sons. I can say I'm somewhat pround of these 2 as I coached both, 1 @ Evadale playing in Buna LL and then Vidor PONY, I had Billy at TC. I too have read about coaches comming out to argue a umps call, I would take offense if these 2 coaches WOULD NOT come out on a questionable call. A good coach owes it to the team to challenge a questionable calls and both of the 2 mentioned above have been very well schooled in the rules and how important knowing them is as a coach. Way to go Jason n Billy giving back and helping kids do something you 2 loved so much at these kids age.

I'm sure the boys are lovn it there and winning is for sure a bonus. Surley your team name fits in perfectly with the weather there. There are some awesome facilities within 20-30 miles of where you guys as I'm thinking your in the Phoenix area. Probabaly more grass on the Spring Training fields than anywhere else in the area. Best of luck

I'm sure you have no idea about Chris Facklers baseball exper or coaching, if you add both Kyle Green and Chad Landry's exper they would still be several yrs short not to mention contacts. I'm not here to pinch-hit for Chris, I just happen to know whats on his reseme, along with Green and Landry's and no dought either of the 3 would be a good choice. I know Chad and family, Chris and family and Kyle as a player and coach, I will say Chad Landry would be my choice as I like what he would bring to the table.

I agree...looked like the catcher tagged the back of the jersey. Nevertheless, heck of a throw by Dishon. Geaux Tigers and best of luck Johnny ! Had him hosed at the plate!!!!

Well I see skills123 last post has been removed>>well you called me out when you said "You claim to know" along with "You just don't know" if you follow the links you will notice the same boys name on all 3 (98, 99, 01) and as a matter of fact its my son and the yrs he (we) was facing the same questions Bronson and his family are now. [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] No one can say what the decision will or should be BUT the Bronson family, and within 24hrs of being drafted they all sat down with the org's rep and a offer was made. IMO >>and its just that<< if he wanted to wait a yr and try for a higher position he could go the JUCO route and go back in the draft next yr and see what plays out, he too could go play in the E Coast league this summer and hope they will up the anie before school starts. Albert Pujois was the 16th pick in 99 and after ending the JUCO yr with a 0-4 outing against the player mentioned above his 'stock' tumbled, he went and played on the E Coast did well and signed for around 60K well above what he was offered in the 24hrs after being drafted. One thing you have to remember some guys use school as a stepping stone to play ball and others use ball as a stepping stone for school. whatever his decision is, its his and there will always be the 'what ifs'. BTW I still think the pay for a first yr player entering the Rookie Lg is still 850 before taxes, the 1100 is in A Ball before taxes, that also is nego, I'm thinking Nolan Ryan recieved the 850 back in the day.

MLB mite still have the college offer after playing but a player would have to reach AA ball, they have a list of each D1 and the amount MBL will pay for whatever is chosen and is worked into the contract, 11th rnd will most probally be under 6 figures more like 40-75,000 and 875 per month for a first yr player. Some people put the desire to play over money, the "IFs' have been mentioned and too are a great concern, I still wonder what would have happened in our case >>>>IF<<<<Whatever his decision he WAS a 11th rnd pick and best of luck....
-
does this mean I did not have my wires crossed? ;D You are most correct, my son straightened me out on that one
-
My son and I were talking about the LC boy and son comitted he must either be a 2 sport player or signed with a major D1, so it was the later.. Congrats to all the above named hopefully we'll see a few more...Glad to see Tim E from HJ

It was my oldest not the one you know and the coach was absolutly clueless. I'm sure you know exactly who I was refering to behind the plate, really good guy but......

Fellas, it's time to start talking deer hunting
643 replied to txstar's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I do know we will be planting more food plots this yr due to the higher cost on corn, but will have to have some help with the rain. One thing about food plots, they need to be viewed as a food source for the deer not just a supliment -

In 94 or 95 at the Pony field in Vidor, my son was behind the plate, Evadale boy on the mound and a umpire with a red beard was calling the game. The pitch was gas down the pipe, umpire totally missed the call, pitcher called my boy out to the mound, said he's comming with high gas and told son to stay down. When my boy assumed his posisition, the ump leaned in and told him "if you boys do it both of you are gone" needless to say my boy caught the ball. The names were ommited to protect the guilty and the intended victim.
